West-Side Story AU

Yue could hear the boys assembling in the street, the hot summer's night forcing her to open all of her bedroom windows. They were planning something... She didn't know who against, but it didn't sound good. Hahn was among them, holding a brick, joking with his other friends about "going easy" on the Lion-Sharks tonight. If only.

She heard the gang go silent, Jet and Hahn pushing through the cluster and standing in the middle of the street, calling the other members to stand attention. Yue squinted out of her window, her eyes falling upon a slow-moving group of young men, donning large wooden sticks, nearing the street corner. Hahn and his gang, selfnamed the Arctic Bears, began calling out to the approaching throng, cursing them out in the fading twilight.

The rival gang, Yue assumed to be the Lion-Sharks, was headed up by two boys, one obviously water tribe, the other with pale skin and dark hair. Her eyes rested on the water-tribe boy, gazing at him from her perch above the commotion. His face was set with a raw determination, blue eyes clouded with ferocity, yet veritable glowing in the failing sunlight. It wouldn't be long now, Yue thought, knowing that these fights took place strictly after dark.

The Sharks stood at the other side of the street, eyes locked on their enemies, Yue leaning out of her window, not sure who she wanted to win. The darkness set upon Republic City quickly, the sun going out like it was nothing more the a modest candle flame. The moon rose, and the fight broke out, both gangs surging forward into the empty street, the sound of blows and injury echoing in the night.

Yue knew, mere minutes into the gang fight, that the Sharks were at some disadvantage. Perhaps they were out of their element in the upperclass area. She heard the bodies hitting against the concrete, and she knew that the fight would be over quickly.

She watched the Sharks retreat, some running off, others still lying in the streets. The Bears left too, sometime after the last Lion-Shark had fallen. Yue gasped, searching in the dim street-lit road, seeing the blue-eyed gang leader lying still and bloodied.

The white-haired heiress tried to gracefully climb out of her window and onto the fire-escape, but failed miserably, having to hike up her large skirt and straddle the sill. She raced down the rusted iron steps, stepping onto the sidewalk, double checking at least five times for Hahn or his gang. Knowing that the only people around were Sharks, Yue crept down into the street, kneeling beside the boy... seeing his denim shirt tainted in blood, his dark hair falling around his face. 

Yue bit her lip, leaning in closer, placing her hands on his chest, feeling his heart still beating. She looked at his face, paler than she remembered, and ghastly still. Yue bent her head down, some of her white hair falling by his face as she moved a hand to his shoulder, shaking it slightly. 

"Hello?" Yue whispered, "Can you hear me?"
