since ur here I'll also explain it a bit more...
obviously SLS is echorator in this AU. Her close connection with the Void Sea due to this makes her a frequent target for channeling various entities, willingly or not
some sort of entity? force of nature? will? idk. it's called The Will Of The Void, I guess
and it wants to enforce that cycles remain perpetuated even as timelines are reset or branch out or etc. More specifically in this case it is trying to enforce that specific individuals who became echoes in another timeline shall become echoes once again in this one
and thus SLS can either help willingly or be puppeted against her will, yay! 👍
the idea sprang into my head last night in the shower lol

So…. In case it was not already obvious, I am someone with ADHD. I hyperfocus on thing after thing and cannot keep up with all the things I want to do. I am very sorry if you are waiting on a reply, I am hoping that I can focus on replies and things soon.
So while I try to get things back to the status quo, or as much as they can be, please leave a like if you have replied to a thread of ours and would like for me to still reply to it!

FFBE War of the Visions.
Alright, so it’s a gacha game and definitely written and designed with a male audience in mind. Most of the women are blatantly intended to be waifus and the male gaze is overwhelming. But I’m still disappointed in Gumi.
As far as I can remember sexual assault rarely happens in a Final Fantasy, and the one time it was explicitly mentioned was Final Fantasy Tactics. Rafa and her rapist face off on a rooftop and an entry about minor antagonist says that he committed rapes during the Hundred Years War. The Final Fantasy series struck me as careful about including sexual assault drawing the line at possessive men stalking women (FFXIII sequel). And that’s something that I valued about the series.
I would argue that in the English language “concubine” is a loaded term that implies a sexual relationship, either as a mistress or a wife of a lower status. To see two women described as prisoners in concubine chambers leads a reader to draw conclusions about why they are there or how they were treated. At best perhaps these are political “marriages” in name only, meant to maintain control over conquered nations. Otherwise, it implies assault or coercion.
And this feels especially egregious because of the character in question, Jayden. Jayden’s a foil to Mont, the generic main character. Both are kings of small nations with great potential for power. Unlike Mont though, Jayden's nation has successfully conquered others; he’s confident to a fault in his abilities, and clearly enjoys battle. The lore and some scenes imply a tragic past (held prisoner and humiliated by another kingdom) as well. The series initially introduces him as the Big Bad but as events unfold the player is left questioning whether Jayden is attempting to face a greater threat or just a war-mongering monster. Compared to Season 1′s villain Muraga, Jayden has nuance and is likeable and sympathetic.
In terms of gameplay and the gacha mechanics, Jayden seems to be a popular character. He’s the first, and only, male character to have a Summer variant a decision meant to appease the player base who aren’t interested in waifus. Summer 2022 also featured Jayden in a (arguably awful) comic story with the secondary protagonist from FFBE, Lasswell. Lasswell is characterized as being uptight, honor-bound, and careful to trust. He’s a popular character in his own game and as a rare crossover unit in War of the Visions. Jayden actively earns that trust from Lasswell and even some admiration. The series continually portrays Jayden as a difficult person to like yet ultimately manages to win loyalty.
So why does Gumi have the implication that Jayden has forced women into a relationship with him? If the women were simply political prisoners, why mention concubine chambers at all? The game has not yet revealed any more about these women, maybe we’ll see later scenes where they claim nothing happened. However, no previous scenes about Jayden’s marital status (and they’re there!) discuss concubines as a political or war tactic.
It’s a gross implication that didn’t need to be in the game. And it stings that the implication is about a character well-liked among its female players.
