Fabbioli Cellars, owned by Doug Fabbioli and Colleen Berg, has been in the works for over 30 years. Fabbioli is one of the few wineries that still offer food pairings with their tasting menu in Northern VA. The best part, the wines and food pairings continue to change out every month! Prior to living in Virginia, Doug and Colleen lived in California where they learn their wine making skills. They have a large tasting room when you first walk in and one located in the basement. If you are looking to relax and hangout after your tasting, they have a large area upstairs or you could go outside where there are fire pits with views of vineyards. VineDication’s recommendation is Raspberry Merlot; or what we refer to as “Heaven in a bottle”. Lake Anna Winery started in 1981 while Bill Heidig, winemaker, was on a business trip in France. In France Bill noticed that the climate and soil conditions were very similar to those on his Spotsylvania farm, and an idea began to take root. Upon his return, he presented the notion of planting grapes to his wife, Ann. Excitedly they decided to start their own vineyard, launching a family own business.The winery is housed in an old barn located on the Heidig farm, which is now owned by Bills two sons, Jeff and Eric. Lake Anna Winery is a perfect destination winery for a weekend getaway that all members of the family will enjoy. With Lake Anna State Park just miles from the winery; you can be sure that everyone will be happy! The winery has a large shop area with wines, shirts, cups, food and other souvenir-like items and a large open space inside with a fireplace. But don’t forget to go out on the large outside patio, at this vineyards you are sure to find the perfect place to sip and enjoy the scenery. VineDication visited our newest partner Barrel Oak Winery this weekend. Barrel Oak Winery, also commonly known as BOW, is located in Delaplane, VA scenic drive about an hour west of Washington DC. Since opening its doors in 2008, BOW has been known as a warm, inviting place for friends and families to gather over wine, conversation, music and scenic views. The atmosphere is so inviting it garnered them the title of the #1 Family Friendly Winery in the World in April 2012 edition of Wine Enthusiast Magazine. Everyone is welcome at BOW, even our four legged family members! Bring them by for a dog gelato or treat. They can bath themselves in the sun and relax along with you! BOW provides a wide variety of wines from sweet to dry, making it extremely difficult to find a wine that one would not like even those "I'm not a big wine fan". Come here, you're guaranteed to find one you'll enjoy! If you're more of beer fan - you're in luck! There's a brewery on site as well! More proof that BOW has something for everyone!
