i remember seeing a post circulate around about how the old web had more visually interesting website design and how in modern days all fast food sites and stuff look the same and im just so baffled by it because i think back to all the times i wanted to order food from like local restaurants and then i would find their website and sure it would look more visually appealing than say the webpage of mcdonalds but i would inevitably close it in like 2 minutes without ordering anything because it would be so fucking cluttered i couldnt find any of the options i wanted to

#i just feel like web design is such a weird thing to pick at like #literally who cares the primary purposes of webpages is to function #which more modern ones do really well #and older ones Do Not #and like yeah you can say its less fun to browse fucking mcdonalds but like #most people do not go to the mcdonalds webpage to have fun they go there to order food #i dont wanna have to jump thru 500 hoops to order food thank you very much #im sure if they put fun lil obstacle courses into every grocery store it would be great for some people #(like mandatory ones i mean) #but most of us just go there to buy things which we need to survive #and that would be the fastest way to get me to stop going to the store #and idk from personal experience the more stripped down and identical webpages are the easier they are to navigate #like if every fast food page is the same thats good because it means you already know how to order from all of them #which cuts out so much mental fatigue which is so important for smth like ordering food #which is supposed to be a relaxing activity after a long day of work & other bs #like sure maybe the tumblr UI is more visually appealing but the tumblr UI isnt exactly known for being easy to figure out #theres a reason that every time a new feature rolls out ppl have to treasure hunt to find it in settings
