What’s the hardest thing about living on womyn's land

ok i gotta come clean. my instinct was to lie and say the hardest thing is like, the amount of manual labor or idk, staying warm in the winter. but this an easy question. we've asked this question at other wimmins lands and their answer is usually the same as ours: getting along. ive only been on tumbler a couple of weeks and i already see that this problem is here on radblr too.

here on the land right now we're really really lucky because we residents get along. we have our disagreements and bad moments but we love each other and enjoy spending time together. that wasnt always the case here! this used to be a place wimmin didnt even want to visit because it was so unfriendly. now after much hard work, we have more visitors than ever. and the vast majority of our visitors are kind and reasonable wimmin who come here to enjoy the land and socialize with other wimmin. but nobody is perfect yall. kind and reasonable wimmin also do and say rude and unreasonable little things. these kinds of little things can turn into feuds if the wimmin involved dont have the conflict resolution skills to handle it. also, not all wimmin are kind and reasonable! some wimmin are totally unlikable! some wimmin come here with no intention of getting along at all! some wimmin come here to get drunk and throw things! some wimmin attend events just to start arguments! and all of those wimmin still deserve female only space.

so how do we deal with difficult wimmin? how do we deal with difficult moments? we do our best but sometimes there's nothing we can do. sometimes we make it worse. and sometimes we are the difficult ones. me, i have chronic pain and was raised with a "eat or be eaten" mindset. being difficult comes plenty natural to me! but puttin in the extra effort to have compassion even when u feel like being mean is worth it. and so we try and we try again.

we have a great little community here. i really believe that every womon who comes here wants the best for the land. but we all show it in different ways, and some wimmin are perhaps more passionate than others. some have more self control than others. some have more hurt than others. and some had never once been in a space where they could express themselves freely until they came here. even the most calm and collected womon can fall apart if she finds herself in a safe enough space. it's important for wimmin to have space to be ugly and difficult. it's hard to hold that space, but not as hard as not having that space at all.

anyways, thank you for your excellent question. i guess what im trying to say is that being nice can be really hard, but it's important to try. we can practice on each other!

I know you do a lot of extensive warding for your home. What differences have you noticed between a warded and an unwarded living space? I imagine you get fewer negative vibes and shadows and maybe a bit better luck, like a household appliance lasts longer than you'd expect it to. Or is it something else entirely?

This is an excellent question and one that doesn't get asked enough, I think. There's always the ubiquitous Ward Your Space advice, but I see very few conversations about the difference in feeling and experience in an unwarded home. (Because after all, there are tons of non-witchy homes out there that don't have wards.)

Personal experiences ahead.

For me personally, it's like the difference between a window that's open to the outside and one that has a screen in it. It's very possible that nothing bad or unwanted will come through the window, but even if you don't have like a raccoon or a wholeass person trying to sneak into your house, you might still get bugs and you're still somewhat open to the elements. So the ward acts like a filter. It won't keep out absolutely everything, but it helps.

The other comparison I can make is an unlocked door. You know, that anxious feeling you get when you're away from home or you hear a weird noise and suddenly all you can think of is did I remember to lock the door? When my wards are threadbare or being actively tested from the outside, that's the feeling I get. Like I left the door unlocked overnight or left a window open when it's about to pour down rain.

So it's mostly a feeling of security.

But in my case, there are also layers in place to take care of other problems. Disruptive energy, unwanted visitors, bad luck, illness, intruding spirits, and baneful or unhelpful magic, among other things. So, compared to other places I've lived or visited, there is a somewhat lower frequency of avoidable accidents, general misfortune, and garden-variety Weird Shit. It's a process I've refined over many years and several homes to try and account for as many controllable variables as I can.

We still have problems, we still get sick, things still break, there's still trouble and disagreements and frustration like there is in every home. Because we're still human and Life Still Happens. But things also seem to take care of themselves in a way. We take care of our home and it takes care of us.

And if you're wondering whether it's jarring when I travel and stay in hotels or other people's homes that don't have the same protections in place - IT IS. But it's really no more troublesome than sleeping in a strange bed.

Scenario

Well, here's the file if you've got the game. (Note that this was saved with all of the mods enabled, so the game won't like it if you don't have the same mod list.) In short, we start out with:

the clothes on Umeko's back

200 silver

an excellent combat handgun

a gas mask

30 packaged survival meals

5 medicine

Sowing crops is disabled. So are:

NPC caravans (including encountering them while traveling)

people with abasia asking to join

the archonexus quest

No caravans was mostly to add to the post-apocalyptic feel. It also means that we're even more dependent on scavenging, because otherwise our only sources of trade are visitors (who tend not to bring much of interest), visiting faction bases, and orbital traders. Trade's gonna be hard. With the population density turned down, there aren't many friendly bases, and as a nomad, orbital trade setups are going to be a luxury.

Storyteller

General Strive to Survive settings, except I bumped the threat scale up to 150%, lowered the death-on-downed chance for enemies to 50%, allowed child enemies to spawn, and lowered the instant death chance for colonists.

World Generation

First, I disabled a lot of the factions. The empire, the medieval guys and Vikings from VE... anything that didn't feel like it really fit the vibe. I turned population density down to the second lowest level, pollution up to 15% or so (higher would make sense, but it's just tedious), and bumped the rainfall up a notch.

It's not worth a separate category, but I also lowered ReGrowth: Wastelands to spawn 25% as much frigid/arid wasteland, and 33% as much temperate wasteland. Its default settings feel like they just plaster the map with way too much of them to be fun.

Real Ruins

Worldgen was done with the 'village' seed on 50% coverage, which gets us ~2500 ruin blueprints to work with. I told it to discard uninteresting ruins about as aggressively as possible, and make 95% of them abandoned.

Ruin density is at x12, additional deterioration is at 0.1, scavenger activity is at x1.7, and it's set to ignore settlement proximity. So, outside of actual abandoned sites, there will still be a lot of ruins on most maps, but they'll be a bit run down and most of the valuables will be stripped already. I didn't set an item wealth limit, though, so we can still potentially get lucky and find things like bionics and endgame gear.

Meggy dahling, I literally cannot stop thinking about the little crossover thoughts I sent the other night (lol). I had another on the ride home while once again, the appetizer has turned into a meal (lol).

So if we're thinking that the Abbotts run this place and it's also similar to Camp Half Blood and Hogwarts, do you wanna see what the school might look like?? (lol).

Demeter and Dionysus kids and those with earth powers get to stay in a little hilly grove area with little cabins that look like Hobbit holes. Inside, they're so cozy and perfect for the littles with super cozy beds and a well stocked kitchen. The Hobbit holes are perfect because the littles can go and play in the grass on the roof and climb the trees. Since Demeter is a frequent visitor of Cecelia's and comes to help with the herbology and gardening classes, she loves hanging out with the littles. There's always the smell of fresh grass and grapes hanging around too which pleases none other than Mr. Grapes himself (lol).

The grade school kiddos have their own buildings with their own classrooms and they always smell like sage, clean cotton and fresh cut wood. Each room is a different color and can transform accordingly to fit their lessons. The chalkboard drawings come to life whenever the teachers (and the deities) tell the stories that go with them.

The high school is something else and here's where it really starts looking more like Camp Half Blood than anything else. The cabins that hold the children of Ares and Artemis look more like Viking longhouses than anything else, I'm talkin spears, swords and shields on the walls, big rough hewn wooden bunks, animal bones on the walls including a huge bison skull at one end and a stag's skull above the fireplace. There's also bows, arrows and other weapons always ready near the door, but funnily enough in the cozy corner, there's a little basket for the cabin's mascot, a little black Xolo dog named Dante (yes it's probably Dante from Disney's "Coco", lol). As it turns out Dante is Ares's chief messenger since dogs are his sacred critter.

There's plenty of arenas way out of the way for high schoolers to practice wrestling, combat and other martial arts and it's not just the Greeks that join in. Sure, Ares comes once in a while to teach the high schoolers the art of combat, but Guan Yu, Shango Orisha, Montu and Sekhmet also came from China, Nigeria and both from Egypt respectively, to help their friend out (lol). Although it's safe to say that Rhett nearly shit himself when Shango caused an unexpected thunderstorm (lol).

The kiddos who were claimed by the air, thunder, lightning and sky gods and goddesses, have their own little cabin/hidey hole and it's sooooo much fun!!! The beds float way, high up off the ground but thankfully they all have special bed-rails just in case somebody rolls over. They love to play a little game kind of like "Floor Is Lava" except they're literally flying and jumping from bed to bed.

The kiddos of the craftsmen deities all have their own special little hole that they can have free reign of. There's plenty of tables and spaces for woodworking, forging, blacksmithing and also for jewelry making. Some of what they've created are absolutely gorgeous! Two of the high schoolers in the forge had managed to make a necklace for Rhett and wifey's anniversary and it looked like blueberry branches. Hephaestus, Brigid, Ptah, Ogun and Thor, all teach the smithing, woodworking and craftsmenship and their kiddos excel immensely at it.

Oooh but the water kiddos have the best spot in the summer since it's right on the lake. Fall and winter can get a little chilly BUT in the summer it's absolute heaven since summers in Montana are so fuckin hot. A huge dock extends out onto the lake and the kids can just run out to the middle and jump off. They love playing with the creatures that live in the lake and hippocampi rodeo is one of their favorite games (lol). Percy and Annabeth have their kiddos in this cabin and Rhett and wifey literally cannot take their eyes off them for two seconds lest they suffer the consequences (lol).

Kiddos of the fire gods and goddesses have their favorite little hidey holes and they're always warm. Thank God for them because Montana gets wretched wildfires every year and these poor guys have to go out every now and again to run a burn line near the woods (lol). In the winter if the heat goes out in a cabin or house, these guys will gladly take in whoever and it becomes like a giant sleepover.

 ReadWHAT TO DO IF YOUR STUDENT VISA GETS REJECTED?

All overseas applicants, including those without US citizenship or permanent residency, are required to first obtain a US student visa. This ensures that they lawfully attend the university in the US. This international student visa enables you to temporarily remain in the US while participating in an authorized academic exchange programme, language programme, or school. 

We will provide the fundamentals of visas and how to obtain a student visa for the United States in this blog. We'll also provide you with some pointers and resources you can use to make sure the procedure for applying for a visa goes as easily as possible.

The process for applying for an F-1 visa is similar to and identical to that of an M-1 and J-1 visa. Therefore, the three US student visa categories are all compatible with the application process described below.

Here are the general steps for getting a US Visa:

 

1. Apply to a US institution: You must first apply to and be accepted by a school, college, or university in the United States. The institution will provide you with a Form I-20, which is a document you need to apply for a student visa.

5. Passport: You must have a valid passport that is valid for at least six months beyond the date of your intended stay in the US.

6. Application fee: You must pay the visa application fee which is non-refundable.

7. Interview: You must attend an interview at a US embassy or consulate in your home country. Wait times for interviews can vary depending on the location, so applying well before your planned departure date is recommended.

8. Attend the interview: You will need to attend the visa interview in person. During the interview, a consular officer will ask questions about your intended study program, ties to your home country, and your ability to fund your education.

9. Wait for your visa: If your visa application is approved, your passport will be returned to you with the visa attached. If it is denied, you will receive a letter explaining the reason for the denial.

In addition to these steps, you may also need to provide additional documentation, such as academic transcripts, proof of financial support, and evidence of ties to your home country.

After you finish your course, the student visa expires at a given stipulated time. You will have to leave the US at that point. You may later visit the US on a different visa, which is appropriate for your circumstance or situation.

Two and a half years ago you decided to leave New York City, move to Korea and start over. You quit your job at the best hospital in the City without knowing if anyone would even hire you in Seoul.

'It's dangerous.', many had said. 'What if you get homesick?', your mother reasoned with you. It all didn't matter because you were determined. Determined to start over, confident that you could endure the hardships, the lonely nights and the foreign environment.

You were an excellent nurse, even got countless character reference letters from your supervisors and seniors. All seemed fine, until you made a grave mistake. 'Until we sort out the mess.', your supervisor explained, raising hope that in due time you would be able to return to work.

But now that hope vanished.

"I can't do anything for you Ji Won, I'm so sorry. I tried everything!" The man across the table said. His eyes were bloodshot, a sign that he had been up all night.

"I know you did. Thank you!" You offered sincerely.

You glanced out the window. The sun had already begun to set on the horizon. You decided to head home. You did enough for one day.

Three days later you were standing in front of AMC, the Asan Medical Center, the largest hospital in Seoul. Your former workplace. The façade looked impressive. Motivated, you walked through the entrance and towards the information hub.

"I would like an appointment with the head of A&E, please. Today, if it can be arranged." You told the staff member.

"What's your name?" She asked without looking away from her computer.

"Kang Ji Won." You said and she wrote it down in her list, informing you that you will have to wait in the waiting area.

You thanked her and sat down in one of the armchairs. Looking around for the first time since you entered the building, you noticed how different it looked from a visitor's perspective. Keeping an eye on the door you scanned every person that came through. It was easy to distinguish the staff from visitors as staff scanned their IDs on their way in.

In the distance you heard your name being called through the speakers.

"I'm sorry Ms. Kang, but Mr. Lee is very busy today. I can offer you an appointment for next week."

Take it!, you thought to yourself, but you also knew that the longer you waited the harder it would be to convince him to hear you out.

"Please! It has to be today! It won't take long."

Visibly frustrated she picked up the phone, rolling her eyes as she speed dialed the A&E Department.

"You get 10 minutes!" She said after she hung up and you thanked her as you ran towards the elevators.

"I can't do anything for you." The department head informed you after you exchanged pleasantries and described your current situation.

"I know you can't give me my old job back, I'll just work in another department."

"It's not about that, Ji Won!" The man in his 50s said with a heavy heart. "You killed someone!"

"We don't know if it was me!" You insisted.

"I can't discuss this with you, you know we're investigating the patient's death internally. But under these circumstances I can't hire you back. I can't justify such a decision to the board. I'm so sorry."

"I understand."

Not really!, you thought, but you realized that you were fighting a lost battle.

"Thank you for seeing me anyway." Defeated, you walked out of the building.

"Huh? What are you doing here? You're off today!" Soo Min approached you in the parking lot. It took you a few seconds to snap out of your funk.

"What happened?" She said concerned.

"It's nothing, you'll be late for work!"

"I couldn't care less about work, tell me what's going on!" She insisted when she saw your ghastly face.

"Do you remember a few days ago I told you about that old man in the ICU, he was getting better and I changed from night to day shifts so I could talk to his doctors?"

"Yes...continue."

"Well, he died on Saturday, hours after I ended my shift. I got a call in the evening that his condition got worse and the doctor wanted me to work the early shift on Sunday."

"And?"

"Well, Kim So Ra worked the evening shift on Saturday and she had Min Young with her. I hate to say it, but you and I both know they're not the best nurses. Anyway, the next morning I got to work and the staff leader pulled me aside and told me the old man died and I was the last person who checked up on him."

"That doesn't mean anything!" She defended you.

"I was also the one who signed off on his medication."

"So?"

"So, they're investigating internally. On paper it looks like I killed the man."

"Bullshit!"

"I went to see Mr. Lee, but his hands are tied."
