It's been a month and change since Fiona and I STILL haven't had one full week of power, not even a full 3 days. It just went out again now! Its Not Good Chief!

Penelope and I stood outside the steel doors of Star Chambers, both of us looking back at the black van parked a decent distance away.
“Okay, hit the blue button now,” Penelope spoke to the two men inside our ears, literally.
“Okay baby girl, you both stay safe in there.”
I went to open the door, Pen placed her hand over mine. I looked over at her counting out loud. After seeing said 10, she nodded to me to open the large door.
As soon as the doors opened, the light from outside flooded the dark room. Computers sat around the entire room, a small laughing sugar skull on each one.
Pen and I marched in, confidence in our walk. I felt like I was lying because there wasn’t a bit of confidence in me. Shane stood at the end of the room, his face morphing into a proud smirk.
The sound of Beyoncé played in the background, Pen and I stopped in front of Shane.
Suddenly Pen snapped her fingers and the doors behind us close. I forget how good at this shit we used to be.
Everyone in the room sat quickly, watching us from their seats. Suddenly Shane started clapping, his smirk growing as he walked closer to us.
“Wow, you lost weight.”
The first thing that Shane said to us and I was already going to knock his brains out.
“Nice one.”
Shane turned to look at me, his smirk growing larger which I didn’t think was possible.
“Little step-sissy hasn’t changed one bit, typical.”
“You wish I was typical.”
He turned back to Pen, walking closer so he was right in her face.
“Miss me?”
Pen paused, waiting a few seconds before she spoke.
“No.”
I felt my hand fly up to the end of the sweater, trying to remember the feeling of safety.
“Then prove it.”
Shane went to grab Pen chin, she started moving her face closer until she turned her head at the last second.
I didn’t move, but I was definitely doing a happy dance in my head.
She walked closer to a nearby hacker. As soon as she stood in front of him he stood up.
“I’m going to kiss you,” Pen spoke as she put her hands on either side of his face. He only smiled and nodded quickly.
She then gently placed her red lips on his, the sound of a light moan fell from his lips.
I suddenly felt bad for Morgan and Spencer, since they were closer to the action than I was and they weren’t even in the room.
She then forcefully removed her lips from the shorter boy, his face held nothing but bliss.
Shane tapped his foot, looking at the two un jealousy. I looked back at the two to see the hacker boy watching me closely.
“Not look at me, I’m not getting mono.”
I heard a loud cough in my ear but I ignored it, turned back to look at Shane.
Pen stood up straight, getting back into Shane’s face.
“Us three have a lot to talk about.”
Shane looked down at her lips before looking back into her eyes.
“Yes we do.”
I walked up to the two, throwing my arms over their shoulders.
“Then let's get to talking kiddos.”
Shane nodded his head, every hacker in the room left. I sat down in the chair the hacker boy Pen made out with just had. Once every one left Shane pulled up a seat while Open sat in one not far from me.
“Why’d you take the Sam Russell file?”
I didn’t waste any time, wanting nothing more than to be in the back of the van listening to Pen crazy metaphors and Spencer new facts. I wanted to hear Derek making fun of me in a sweater and plaid skirt.
“That stupid profile thing that you do was wrong.”
I felt myself roll my eyes, him looking at me like we used to when we were kids.
Those memories came flooding back quickly. The way we used to throw lamps at each other, brushing off as a basic sibling fight.
The way he used to look at me in my room until I “figured out how to stop being a brat”.
The way he used to playPen for everything that happened, then as soon as she started crying he took out his camera and recorded.
I felt myself pull harder on the yarn at the end of my jacket, my foot tapping on the stone floor.
“Just give us back the file,” I heard Pen yell, but she sounded so far away.
I felt the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, watching Shane quickly stand from the chair. I felt myself pull closer into myself, scared what might happen next.
“I refuse to work with the FBI,” Shane said, walking behind his desk.
“This isn’t about Sam Russell, this is about doing the right thing,” I spoke softly, the old me was taking over again.
“Shut up, the adults are talking,” Shane yelled, gripping onto one of the metal tables.
I wanted to hide, I wanted to run out of this room and into that black van outside.
“This is sure to give me a lot of flashbacks.”
I didn’t even think before the word fell out of my mouth, needing some familiarity to overthrow everything.
I heard shuffling my ear, and suddenly the sound of Spencer clearing his throat brought me back to reality.
“Did you know the only letter that doesn’t appear on the periodic table is J.”
I watched a Pen didn’t make any more or a reaction to Spencer speaking in my ear. I knew he must have shut it off so only I could hear, which made everything feel so much more intimate.
I smiled to myself, Spencer waiting for a sign to stop.
I whisper so quietly I didn’t think Spencer could hear, but once I heard a “anytime” I knew he understood.
“I took the file because your little friends missed almost everything, maybe like the silent partner.”
Shane spoke quickly, pointing his finger in between the both of us.
“We’ve already gone over that theory.”
I knew I was lying, I knew everyone threw that away as fast as it came through the door, but I also knew Shane was a narcissist and if I gave in, I could get somewhere.
“Bullshit sissy,” he gritted his teeth as he walked closer to me. I stood up from my chair, brought to him.
“You didn’t know shit about the inside killer, I know you couldn’t figure that out.”
Shane was swinging his hands all over the place, drawing pictures in the sky.
“You wouldn’t know, you’re stuck in an underground lair like you’re a Disney villain or something.”
Suddenly a hand grabbed my shoulder, pushing Shane and I away from each other.
“Can we all talk like normal people for a minute.”
Shane only nodded, walking to the other side of the room as me.
“How’s your birth dad doing?”
Pen looked him up and down, sympathy in her voice.
“He died seven years ago.”
I hated Shane, but I felt my heartbreak for him a little. I knew he loved his father, he meant a lot to him.
“I posted about it, neither of you said a word.”
I looked down at my flats, the guilt seating in quickly.
“When we both joined the FBI they told us we couldn’t have contact with you anymore,” Pen answered, placing a light touch to his arm.
“Then why didn’t you do it.”
Shane stepped back into her face, I felt myself walk closer to him.
“I got us caught,” I spoke, his eyes turning from her to me.
“You got caught? Come on I know we don’t get along but I know you are smarter than to get caught.”
I felt myself roll my eyes, the whole situation was getting to me again.
“I didn’t know the FBI would show up, they tracked Pen through my phone.”
“Actually, I went to the station,” Pen turned to me with soft eyes.
“Huh?”
Shane smirked while he looked me in the eye.
“She was too scared to stay with me so he ran after you, knowing she’d get caught.”
“I wanted a different life, I wanted my best friend and I to be able to do something that was illegal all the time.”
I felt myself laugh, the memories of everything we needed in those years were illegal, but we alway made it work.
“Well aren’t you both doing better, baby girl.”
I felt myself step back as she walked back to his desk.
“Oh and let’s not forget Mr. “Did you know”, I hope your kids don’t come out wearing sweater vests.”
I felt the anger boil inside me, the idea of him talking about Spencer made me want to go back to throwing laps.
“Shit.”
I heard Morgan's voice in my ear, the realization of everything was kicking in.
“It’s not like that, you don’t understand the phrase,” Pen was quick to jump at Shane, trying to make him understand.
“It’s a friendship, all of it was.”
I felt my heart break, even saying those words in a dangerous situation felt wrong.
“Oh I saw text, it seems the guy you both are sleeping with are miracle workers.”
Shane slammed his hands on the table in front, looking over both of us.
“Because he somehow broke the strongest and smartest woman I ever met in my life and ruined her.,” he said pointing his finger at Pen.
“And Mr. Smarty Pants managed to turn my sweet step-sister into a cold blooded bitch.”
“Oh you want to see a bitch,” I started marching to him before Pen grabbed my upper arm and held me in place.
“We aren’t sleeping with them.”
“Well then I guess you vandalized yourself, which is ten times worse.”
I felt Pen's grip tighten one my, her eyes from liking with tears.
“You aren’t the two I saw as my family.”
“You don’t treat people you see as family like shit, get it right.”
I turned around and stormed out the large building, the sun shining down on the thick sweater. I didn’t wait for Pen and I threw the back of the van open and sat on the bench.
I didn’t do anything as Morgan or Reid spoke to me, the anger building up inside me was too much. I saw Pen join us in the back of the van, her eyes overflowing with tears.
She closed the door behind her and fell into Morgan’s arms, he sobbing took the back of the van.
“You aren’t a bitch,” Spencer said gently from beside me.
“No I am, but that’s the exact trait that's going to let me catch this asshat.”

Summary: “Have you seen Aleks?”  “No, I thought he was with you.”
As the sun slowly sank into the Pacific Ocean, Brett leaned against the balcony railings of his pent house nursing a vodka tonic. The day hadn’t been stressful or busy and that was putting Brett on edge. Cow Chop hadn’t had a major operation in over a month and the unused energy was bubbling under his skin.
As the sun, descended, Brett turned his attention to the beach below, where ant-sized people moved around transitioning to the night-life that was iconic for L.A. Brett was so engrossed in the spectacle that was the argument between a girlfriend and a boyfriend that he almost didn’t hear his front door open. A pair of obnoxious guys waltzed into the room, in the middle of a heated discussion.
“I can’t believe you Trevor!” Yelled James as he plopped down on one of the leather couches, “shooting at the guy we were supposed to make a deal with? I swear I can’t take you anywhere.”
“It wasn’t my fault,” retorted Trevor, following in James’ footsteps, “and it doesn’t matter, because we got the money anyways.”
James shook his head and grabbed the remote for the TV.
Brett slid the glass door closed behind him, coughing a but to make his presence known, “am I interrupting anything?”
James continued to flip between channels completely ignoring Brett so Trevor answered.
“James is mad at me for shooting at our client.”
James slammed the remote down on the couch and whipped his head around to face Brett, “that’s only because there was no point to it.”
The pair began to fall back into the argument when Brett put his hand up.
“Hold it. Did we get the money?”
Both James and Trevor shook their head yes.
“Then all is well. Trevor,” he turned to the young member, “not every problem requires a gun as the solution. James,” he turned his head to James, “take it easy on the kid. He hasn’t even been here for six months.”
“He should still know better,” grumbled James as he returned his attention back to the TV.
Brett smiled, glad that the yelling was finally over and went to go refill his glass when he stopped.
“Have you seen Aleks?”
Trevor turned around his eyebrows drawn together, “no, I though he was with you.”
Brett shook his head, “he texted me earlier today that he was going to meet up with you guys. You never saw him?”
“No,” James said not looking away from the TV, “he did text us to meet up with him, but when he never showed up, we assumed he was with you.”
Brett set down his drink and pulled out his phone, a small bubble of anxiety forming in his abdomen.
He sent a quick text over to Aleks asking where he was before going to dump his drink in the kitchen. When he returned, he still hadn’t received a response from Aleks. Frantic, Brett hit the call button next to Aleks’ name and stuck the phone up to his ear. After one ring, it went straight to voicemail.
At this point, James and Trevor were standing both with concerned looks on their faces.
“Hey Aleks,” started Brett, “Its Brett, just wanted to check in on you. No one has seen you all day so… just call me back okay?”
After he hung up he clicked call on another name and tuned to face Trevor and James, “get a hold of Anna, Lindsey, Joe, and Jakob. We may have a problem.”
As the pair started with their own task, a monotone voice answered on the other end of Brett’s phone call.
“Hello?”
Brett sighed, “Asher? Its Brett, we have a problem.”
“What is it?” Asked Asher, his voice suddenly sounding a lot more awake.
“Aleks is missing, no one knows where he is. Could you do a quick scan and see if you can find him?”
“I’m on it” answered Asher, “I’ll call you when I get something.”
Brett hung up just in time to see Trevor and James hang up as well.
“Joe, Jakob, and Lindsey are on their way over,” stated James.
“And Anna is heading over to help out Asher,” finished Trevor.
Brett nodded, “okay, suit up. I want to be ready if something is actually wrong.” ----------------
Aleks gasped for air as his head was pulled out of the freezing cold water by his hair. The strong gloved hand threw him to the floor, leaving Aleks to cough and splutter. They had been doing the same routine for almost an hour now and Aleks’ lungs felt like they were going to burst at any moment. All he could do was hope that a member of Cow Chop discovered that he was missing.
“That’s enough,” stated a gruff voice.
Three of the four people that were in the small storage room with Aleks, leaving him with the large burly man that had just spoken. The man approached Aleks and forcefully lifted him into a sitting position, his legs crossed in front of him and his hands tied behind. Aleks let his head sink down so he was staring down at the ground. His dyed blonde hair stuck to his forehead, just like the soaked pink shirt e wore stuck to his body. His black jeans had some holes in them from when he was dragged across the floor and the green jacket he wore had fallen off of his shoulders.
“I know a lot about you, Aleksandr.” Said the gruff voice a venomous sweet tone to his voice, “I know that you work for Cow Chop, I also know that you are very close to your ‘informant’.” He squatted down so he was at the same level with Aleks, “why don’t you tell me who that it is and I’ll consider letting you live.”
Aleks lazily lifted his head up, a slight smirk on his lips as he stared the gruff man directly in the eyes.
“The only thing I can tell you is that you are a giant pussy.”
At first, Aleks didn’t feel any pain, the only thing he could feel was the feeling of weightlessness, like he was flying. But, as his head collided with the ground, all the pain came shooting in to him. Aleks let out a groan as the man stepped over him and over to the door.
“When I come back, I expect an answer or else you will be begging for death.” The door slammed behind him, leaving Aleks in the dark. Alone, wet, freezing, and bleeding on the concrete floor silently hoping the rest of Cow Chop finds him. ----------
Brett threw his phone across the room in anger after hanging up with Asher for the second time that night. The young hacker had called to give the bad news that Aleks phone was off and his exact location couldn’t be traced.
“I can turn on his phone from here, but that will take a while. Until then, all I can tell you is that he was near 5th street the last time his phone was on.”
Brett now paced the length of the room, the unused energy and anxiety fully taking over him. Trevor, James, Joe, Jakob, and Lindsay all sat on the couch, not wanting to set off Brett’s short fuse.
After a few more minutes of pacing, Brett stopped, picked up his gun, and headed towards the front door.
“Where are you going?” Yelled James.
“I’m going to find Aleks,” replied Brett.
“But you have no idea where he is.”
Brett paused, his front door slightly open. After a moment of hesitation Brett turned back around to face James, the fire in his eyes enough to make even the strongest of men take a step back.
“I’ll tear this entire city apart if I have too.” With that Brett left the apartment to begin his hunt for Aleks. --------------
Five hours later, Brett was sitting in his car, in front of the warehouse that most definitely held Aleks. Brett had spent the last five hours scouring all of L.A. for any hint of the missing Russian. After multiple dead ends, someone had let it spill that a local street gang was bragging about capturing a member of the famous Cow Chop. Eventually, that led Brett here. As he did one last inventory of his weapons, a black SUV pulled up beside him. The passenger side window rolled down to reveal Trevor with James in the driver’s seat and Joe, Jakob, and Lindsay sitting in the back.
“How did you guys find me?” Asked Brett.
“We waited for Asher,” answered Trevor, “the moment he found Aleks’ location we came here. You can’t do this alone Brett. No matter how good you are, you will go down if they have enough men.
Brett nodded, “let’s get going.”
The plan was simple, Joe and Jakob would storm the south entrance, James and Lindsay would take the north, and Brett and Trevor would take the east. Their goal was to kill as many of the bastards as possible and to locate Aleks. If any pair found the missing Russian, they would immediately retreat back to the SUV, leaving the other four to clean up the mess. It was a rushed and under-developed plan, but no one cared.
Once everyone was in position, they waited for the set moment to strike. As the time grew closer and closer for the attack, the energy under Brett’s skin began to surface, ready for all hell to break lose.
When the moment came, Brett kicked in the door in front of him and began to shoot at anything that moved. In the span of ten seconds he had already killed five men and was already searching the rooms around him, desperate to find Aleks. Distant yells and gun shots let Brett know that the other pairs had made their entrance as well.
As a second wave of men came, Brett spotted a storage unit in the corner of the warehouse, heavily guarded by men and decided that that was where the Russian was being held. Together, Brett and Trevor quickly cleared a path to the door. Without even testing the door, Brett kicked it in, his gun ready for what was waiting on the other side. ---------
As the door busted open, the gruff man from earlier pulled Aleks closer to himself and put the pistol closer to Aleks’ head. Aleks felt a surge of relief flood through him when he saw Trevor and Brett standing there, their guns at the ready.
“Let go of him,” hissed Brett, his voice dark enough that it caused Aleks to shiver and for the man holding him to take a couple steps back.
“Or what?” The man asked.
“Or I’ll place a bullet right between your eyes without a moment of hesitation,” replied Brett, taking a few steps into the room, prompting the man to take the same amount backwards.
“What’s in it for me?” The man chuckled, unaware of the rage that was bubbling underneath Brett’s skin.
“I’ll possibly let you walk out of here alive.” Brett lifted his gun a little higher, “it’s your choice.”
As the man thought over Brett’s proposal, his grip on Aleks loosened. Taking the window of opportunity, Aleks slammed his head back into the man’s face and quickly ran away when the man’s grip disappeared.
Before the man could recover, Brett had placed a perfect shot between his eyes, letting him drop lifelessly onto the floor. The room was tense, everyone too scared to move in fear that if they did the man will get back up. Eventually, Trevor put his gun down and moved behind Aleks to let him out of his bindings.
Aleks rolled his shoulders and rubbed his wrists, glad to be out of the wretched bindings. When he looked back up, Brett still hadn’t put his gun down, his ragged breathing still echoing around the small room. Aleks slowly approached him and place his hand on the barrel of the bun, prompting Brett to lower it.
“It’s over,” said Aleks, keeping his voice light, “he’s gone.”
Brett looked over at the Russian and the fire in his eyes dissipated into worry.
“Aleks,” he breathed, taking a step closer, “are you alright?”
Aleks lifted and hand up to the dried blood that led a trail up to his nose and shrugged, “I’m fine. Just some bruises, I’ll definitely be sore tomorrow.”
Seeing that Aleks was still the same as ever, Brett allowed himself to fully relax and let a slight smile fall onto his face.
“Now, can we get out of here?” Asked Aleks, “I’m actually craving some burgers right now.”

Tenants in Hobart: Are You Last-Minute Holiday Shoppers?
Years ago, one of your New Year’s resolutions was probably to never again leave it till the last minute to stock up with groceries for the Christmas dinner –  specially when your judgemental aunt was on the guest list. You also probably swore you would not be forced into buying unsuitable gifts, because there was no choice left when you finally set about buying them. Baxton Property Management in Hobart suggests that there’s still time to try to do better this year.
You know you’ve tried
Perhaps you even got it right last year – almost. You drew up the shopping and gift lists a good few weeks earlier. But the paper you used for Christmas dinner ingredients was more than slightly yellowed, and the gift list was ruined by coffee stains from using it as a coaster before you actually hit the shops. Reading them was difficult, but it didn’t matter, because the shops were full of people and empty of stock.
So what about this year? Take comfort in knowing you aren’t alone. The stock levels were probably low because others who left it to the second last minute were packing the last goodies into the car as you arrived. There wouldn’t be crowds if there weren’t plenty of other people leaving their shopping as late as possible And you still have a few weeks to beat the deadline this year.
What’s waiting for you out there?
Visitors from the mainland, used to the masses that flood stores in the bigger Australian cities, claim the festive crowds aren’t that bad in Hobart. To a local Tassie, the Hobart Christmas crowds probably still seem huge. On the flip side, out of town visitors aren’t used to having some businesses and shops close completely, or maintain early closing hours, over the festive season, and on public holidays. In knowing this happens there, Tassies are better able to plan their shopping.
Do you get a kick out of last-minute shopping?
Psychologists say many last-minute shoppers do everything else at the last minute, too. They are procrastinators who only get truly focussed when the deadline is right on top of them, and enjoy meeting the added challenge of time. Others, they claim, get a kick out of battling through crowds and snapping up the last items off the shelves as if they were prizes in a treasure hunt. But for many of us, it simply happens in the holiday season. Time passes while we’re having fun, or as we’re rushing to complete everything at work so that we can have fun.
Ways to Avert Shopping Anxiety
Shop or Price-check online: You can even get treats (unfortunately turkeys aren’t included) for your festive table online, as well as gifts. An added bonus is that many online retailers offer special deals closer to Christmas. Just remember that there are delivery deadlines and unexpected delays, so even online shopping requires a bit of planning. If that doesn’t work for you, some online stores have a pickup option. You can also check for the best price and outlet for offline shopping before switching off your computer and leaving the rental property.
Boxing clever: Take advantage of Boxing Day Sales. If you can’t find the item you were looking for in time to get it wrapped and under the tree, give a card instead. Make one that promises delivery the day after Christmas and spread the festive cheer a day longer. You can save money in the sales at some of Hobart’s major department stores on Boxing Day, and perhaps buy a bigger gift instead.
Avoid the big stores: Give a miss to the major stores and frequent the markets Hobart is known for, to buy really special gifts and some of those elusive groceries for Christmas dinner. Or go to the small shops close to home, so you don’t have to battle with traffic and parking, both of which can kill the festive spirit in even the strongest of last-minuters.
Get creative: You still have a bit of time to whip up some baked goods or make something pretty as gifts. You can start preparing puddings and fruit mince pies if you want those for the Christmas table, and should still be able to stock up on ingredients, while avoiding the busy areas.
Remember you are probably still ahead of schedule compared to other years, if you act now. Through a century of collective experience in property management, Baxton in Hobart has learnt a lot about managing time, as well as running properties for rental owners.
