jkjk these are just the ones that jumped out at me when I was scrolling through her youtube vids as ones i remember loving

in alphabetical order by show/artist–

Water Under the Bridge (Adele): this is one of my favorite Adele songs, and I think Sam brought a slightly more innocent tone to it that I really like.

Michael In the Bathroom (Be More Chill): I have a soft spot for gender-bent covers of things, so I love this on principle, but my favorite parts of Sam’s version are the “knock, knock, knock, knock” verse and the last two lines.

My Heart Will Go On (Celine Dion): the first time I heard this, I was immediately obsessed and listened to it non-stop for a week straight. also, can we just appreciate her pausing before the bridge to comment that her hair “looks like a wet rat” before proceeding to belt out the rest of the song? flawless.

Me and the Sky (Come From Away): if you weren’t grinning by the second chorus, and if your heart didn’t plummet at the end, you didn’t listen to this properly. I’m going to need her to play Beverly in about 10 years, thanks.

For the First Time in Forever (Frozen): brb starting a petition for a Broadway revival of Frozen starring Sam as Anna.

Monster (Frozen II): brb starting a petition for a Broadway revival of Frozen starring Sam as Elsa.

Never Enough (The Greatest Showman): it’s absolutely crazy that she taught herself this song the day she recorded this video, because this was amazing.

That Would Be Enough (Hamilton): okay, technically, this wasn’t an official song-a-day, but I wasn’t expecting to hear it at the end of the video, and it completely blew me away.

I Say No (Heathers): I need a Heathers revival just so she can play Veronica. the emotion and vocal strength is solid throughout.

Born This Way (Lady Gaga): a genuinely happy cover, but made even better by her dance moves and facial expressions.

Omigod You Guys (Legally Blonde): I’m not stupid, lady, I’ve got ears – and this is incredible.

On My Own (Les Miserables): someone cast Sam as Éponine, stat. (maybe third time’s a charm?)

Poor Unfortunate Souls (The Little Mermaid): this song scared the shit out of me as a kid, so this was basically the first time I’d heard it in full. the sass she injects into the song makes it so fun to watch.

Party in the USA (Miley Cyrus): an i c o n i c song and performance, but even more special because it was recorded and posted just a few hours after election results were certified – you can feel the joy as she sings.

La Vie Boheme A (Rent): my absolute favorite Rent-related thing ever. not only was it done in just one take, but she sings every. single. part. it’s ridiculous, in the best way.

Shallow (A Star is Born): as Sam herself said, there are so many covers of this song out there, but this one might be my favorite.

All You Wanna Do (Six the Musical): Sam!Howard. 'nough said.

Group Songs from Six the Musical: screw the Megasix, she went ahead and gave us one-women versions of Ex-Wives, Haus of Holbein, and Six, which are about as glorious as they sound.

Megasix (Six the Musical): you know the drill. two minutes of pure chaos, with her cat in the background as the other queens.

Cardigan (Taylor Swift): there are very, very few folklore covers out there that I think properly capture the essence of the song/album. this is one of them.

Defying Gravity (Wicked): featuring Sam brandishing a broom and a (somehow still) snoozing Dale.

No Good Deed (Wicked): fiiiiiiiiiiyyyeeeeeeeeeeeeeerooooooooooooooo
