Man of the Mundari. © Trev Cole The Mundari cattle camp, seldom visited by outsiders, is quite simply incredible. The dust and smoke intermingle to create an inimitable atmosphere. The tribes' wealth lies in their cattle and there are thousands of them. When young men of the tribe get married the dowry may be as much as 40 cattle. "Very few people really know African cultures in depth, due to their diversity, often foreign to our continent, getting to know them up close becomes difficult for a large percentage of the globe. That makes the image manipulation process easier and with it the transmission to the viewer. I work on the concept of individuality and loneliness. This is how I came to the African masks and these characters. The special sparkle in their eyes, the way they live, the marks and lines on their bodies leave their traces and denote their belonging." Dassanech Woman. The Dassanech tribe have proved themselves to be a thrifty group with many tribesmen and women wearing their unique jewellery made out of everything from old digital watches to bottle caps. The woman in the above image carefully tied cowley shells together to create a beautifully ornate decoration. The Dassanech are pastoralists . Mucawana Woman. The Mucawana (or Muhacaona) are an aboriginal nomadic people living in remote provinces of South Angola, particularly in the villages of Soba near Oncocua, Elola and Moimba. Man of the Topossa. The Topossa were welcoming and have wonderful villages with beautifully constructed houses, stilted granaries and like the Laarim their compounds are clean. Watching them grind sorghum and cook over fires highlights the degree to which we are privileged in life. The woman are adorned with beaded skirts and collars of beads around their necks. Their faces are frequently scarified with small keloidal bumps.
