It’s my fifth try for this gorgeous sunset scene. Some are more successful than the others, but I’ve leaned a few things along the way. This is the difficulty of watercolor but also its advantage. You have some kind of control but sometimes just have to go with it. I painted the whole thing on the soaked paper, to have more time to play with the clouds. PG&E proposed a safety shut off since yesterday: generators are sold out; traffic lights stopped working; the kids’ school was closed for the last two days. We are waiting for the other shoe to drop. The image of this mother and daughter walking alongside is so tender and touching. I have two little girls myself. It’s difficult not to be moved. I finished it a few days ago, as part of @kustova_anastasia watercolor marathon. She is a great teacher. She not only reviewed fondamental principles of drawing and color theory, but also inspired me to draw big and loose.
