nacht der kommissare is truly one of the most tatort episode plots to ever. opening premise. cop 1 has gone off on his own (as he is wont to do) and solved the case. cop 2 knows about this because cop 1 texted him cryptic and ominous images without bothering to add any sort of helpful clarifying captions or anything. cop 2 goes off in search of cop 1. finds him just absolutely off his head blissfully high in the most bisexually lit bar you've ever seen. rest of the episode is spent with cop 2 trying to figure out what the hell it was cop 1 figured out that made someone drug him while cop 1 follows him around making sincere confessions of love and climbing up onto every tall object in the area. in the end it turns out the tiger did it

They're a simple homemade attempt at letting non-German-speaking fans participate in the epic highs and lows of Spatort because there currently are no official English subtitles. Hi, I'm trying to explain it for you.

It's famous for it's Tatort.

"Tatort" is a weekly Sunday afternoon crime show (for boomers) that's been running since forever. Different teams investigate crimes in different cities.

The Saarbrücken team is quite young compared to the other teams and is (probably/hopefully/not canonically) quite gay and has a consistent dramatic backstory including the abusive criminal father of one of the main cops and a spade. There's so much personal drama and the crimes are just a small plot point to drive the character development. Here they are:

So far there have been 5 episodes and the latest aired yesterday.

Our fandom is crazy and super creative in terms of memes, fanfic, GIFs etc. so every year at the end of January it's wild when we're live blogging and processing the new episode.

You aren't the first one who's confused about all of this and it's really cool that we're able to trend our stupid German crime show every year and confuse unknowing Tumblr users.

There are some more detailed posts explaining the whole thing and I'm thankful if somebody could link to them in the comments.

I'm jealous that you've lived in Saarbrücken, you would probably spot some familiar places in the episodes, when you watch them.

1. Buffy The Vampire Slayer. To me, it’s perfect. I got my handle from it. I watched it with a dedicated group back in the days and alone and still have some merch and some research literature lying around though the poster of the musical episode is gone.

2. Superstore. It’s funny until it isn’t. Not a weak season and a perfect ending. I’m invested in all the characters. Binged it through the pandemic.

3. Derry Girls. Pure 90s nostalgia and Sister Michael. And Michelle. And the wee lesbian.

4. Orange Is The New Black. So many women, so queer right from the start. Didn’t like every season or every development and Piper and Alex are a toxic mess. But still, I’m in love with them.

5. Mord mit Aussicht. Not where I grew up but a bit like where I grew up. The quirks of rural life.

6. Popular. Ryan Murphy’s (I think) first endeavor. Before Glee and all. Weird, funny and short-lived. It gave fanfiction the wonderful pairing of Brooke and Sam. (Fun fact: One fan story features a queer bar in a small greek village that I thought was entirely fictional until I danced years later in said village and said bar and recognized the name and the place.)

7. Golden Girls. I totally credit Dorothy, Blanche, Rose and Sophia for some of my skills in maintaining friendships and living together.

8. Grace and Frankie. Another smart and warm hearted show about friendship and family (and getting older).

9. Tatort. Because of Tatort Hamburg and Julia Grosz. (And Falke. And me getting back into writing and getting to know lovely folks along the way.)

tatort fans, I need your help

am currently writing a video about why boerne in later episodes is not as funny as before and my main reasons are as follows:

1. liefers doesn’t play him up anymore as this overdramatic kind of guy so his jokes don’t sound and look like jokes anymore but as something he truly believes in 

 2. boerne went from being the comic relief character to being the guy that follows thiel everywhere and sometimes has something funny to say but otherwise he is there to do what the story needs him to do

3. the jokes are not as harsh and scandalous as they once were

so now if you have any opinion on this, if you think I am missing something, if you completely agree with any of this, I would be very thankful if you could hit me up because I don’t feel comfortable writing a video like this and not talking to anybody beforehand. also I have not watched all of tatort münster (hurry up ard mediathek!!) so I really need another person to talk to, just so I can confirm that this is not just happening in the episodes I did see. thank you very much just for reading this lol <3

OK so I just watched 'was bleibt' (I know, I know) and I think the thing that gets me so annoyed about Julia's death is just how pointless it all feels? Like she had a new job lined up, her band was doing well and they still needed to have her get stabbed? Except for dramatic irony or whatever (which I didn't think worked particularly well either but y'know, who's asking me) what was the reason?? Is it so inconceivable for Tatort authors to imagine police officers actually getting a 'happy' ending at some point? Haven't we seen her go through enough and did Falke really need this added tragedy for his character building, really??

Story of Hönk/Adeo:

At the end of episode three, there is a hug between the two characters, and before they hug they stare into each other’s eyes (and lips) for a long time, and it seriously looks like they are about to kiss. I watched it and was like "Dude, this is the gayest shit I have ever seen". I have watched the entire thing five times since then, and I still can't believe that I'm actually invested in Tatort of all things.

Story of SydneyHardin:

Vagrant Story is a dark fantasy game about a secret agent investigating a cult. Sydney is the cult leader (who starts as the antagonist but turns out to be morally grey), Hardin is a supporting character and Sydney’s henchman. When I was looking up fan material for this game, I saw that an author had written several novel-length stories about their relationship before the events of the game. I was stunned and a little amused: John Hardin? The henchman who says “Kill all the hostages”?? But I was intrigued enough to read one, and the author was such an excellent writer that by the end I was on board. Now, somehow, Vagrant Story has become a game about Sydney and Hardin’s gay divorce. They are not even a little bit canon.
