Amber was born to Gideon and Tiffany, but as far as Amber knew, she only had one parent and it was her father. Then there was the woman who called herself her mother, often coming back into her and her dad’s life simply to ruin it a little bit. Ever since she was a little kid, Amber loved her dad with all her heart. Even if sometimes he was busy with his job, he made time for her and was always there for her while her mother was the complete opposite and only showed when she pleased. The older she got, the more she wished the woman never showed because even in that age she could see how miserable her father was with her. Her prayers seemed to have been finally answered and while she was around 14, her dad began to date another woman whom Amber adored. Amber began to think that she would take the huge void Tiffany had created for her father as well as her, but sadly it didn’t last and Amber gave up hopes that anyone would fill the empty space of mom in her life. It was when she was 16 that her father got full custody of her and she was overjoyed, and moving mak to Wakefield to her family felt like the change they both needed in their lives. Tiffany was never heard from again and after finishing school, Amber switched around with a few jobs, finally settling as an attendant at Insert Coin, glad that both she and her dad were far away from their past.

Christian was the second eldest born to Victoria LeBlanc & Grayson John Cohen. The happy little family he was born into didn’t last long when Grayson fell into drugs and alcohol. 

His mother never paid any of them much attention, and Christian often wished his father did too. He had quite the temper, and Christian and his siblings usually saw the brunt of it.

Despite not being much older than her, Christian basically helped raise Avery with James, as well as their other siblings. Christian tried so hard to make sure they had everything they needed, and that they were shielded from their father’s anger. 

Growing up, his attendance in school wasn't always the best. He put looking after his siblings over his own education, and would often skip if his injuries couldn’t just be passed off with the excuse of being clumsy. 

While Christian wasn’t entirely book smart, he made up for that in other skills. He can cook, and grew up fixing whatever he could, just so they didn’t have to pay to replace it.

Christian was on the track team at school, one of their fastest runners but he got dropped from the team due to his poor attendance. 

After he got dropped from the team, he needed another outlet that wasn’t just running. So, Christian taught himself how to draw. He’s often found sketching if he just needs a moment to think and breathe.

Christian began to develop anxiety and depression when he was still a fairly young teenager. Not wanting to worry his siblings, Christian tried to ignore it. The main trigger to his anxiety is loud noises, something that’s stemmed from the arguments and yelling his father constantly did. Due to this, Christian also developed a fear of thunder. 

Christian didn’t have many friends in high school. His closest being his cousin, Sam. He’d often be picked on, and not all of his bruises came from his father. He wouldn’t tell anyone about it. He didn’t want to worry them.

He didn’t bother applying to colleges. He’s worked several jobs over the years, but working as a handyman for the hardware store has been the longest job he’s stuck with. 

He started to socialise a little more when he left school, but can still the count the amount of close friends he has on one hand. He tries not to get close to people, as he doesn’t want to drag them into the mess that is his life.

He’s dated one person in his life, the relationship lasted over a year, before he broke things off. He still regrets it, and hasn’t dated since. (WC)

Christian moved out of his parents home, and while he’s still there a lot to help Avery; he likes having a place away for them so they don’t always have to be there.

Christian does have his license, and has a beaten up pick up truck. 

Christian doesn’t go anywhere near alcohol or drugs. At all. Never has.

Scarlette Loraine St. Cross was born the middle child of three siblings in the middle of Chicago, Illinois to a mother and pastor, Elena and Richard St. Cross.

Growing up, life was never easy for the siblings. Their father was secretly addicted to cocaine and their mother was an alcoholic. Scarlette and her younger brother, Marcus, were basically raised by their eldest sister, Kimberly, until it was time to go to college.

After Kimberly left was when things took a wrong turn. Now being the oldest sibling in the house at 17, Scarlette had to endure the neglect and abuse from her parents and their addictions. Eventually, their father was found out, being banned from the church and shunning the family. 

Scarlette knew she had to get out of there, and so in the middle of the night she woke up her younger brother, and they both packed their bags and took off. Scarlette dropped her brother off at a relatives in southern Illinois, and the rest was up to her.

The young girl took off east, no set destination in mind. It felt like weeks when she finally found herself in South Carolina, driving straight into a small town called Wakefield.

Scarlette has been in Wakefield for five months, and soon landed the job as a librarian at the one and only Kirkman Library in town.

Nobody really knows what happened in her past, other than the fact she came from a religious family in Chicago.

It’s almost as if Blaise has God on one shoulder and the devil on the other. A country boy through and through, he grew up as a methodist Christian and absolutely believes in God. He believes in grace, yet unfortunately, he sometimes takes said grace to be a license to sin. Preacher’s kids are the worst kids, they say, and Blaise is a testament to that. His father wanted him to take on active roles in the church, go to seminary, marry a nice girl with a lot of faith and live a cookie cutter life, but Blaise wanted no part of it– though he hasn’t completely left God. He appreciates the countless opportunities he received to practice and perfect his craft right in the church choir, and as much respect as he has for his father and the elders who taught him how to play the bass and other instruments in the first place, Blaise left the church and Wakefield to build a career as a musician in Nashville, Tennessee, only to return in just a few years.

Growing up in Wakefield, Blaise always had somewhat of a double consciousness, feeling convicted about his behavior at times, but going off of the deep end anyway. One thing he wouldn’t do, though, is be a pretender. He did appreciate hearing his father’s sermons, loving the poeticism of it all, but he wasn’t going to be someone he wasn’t. If he was out all night on Saturday, he wouldn’t put up a front of holiness on Sunday morning. His mother continually called him out for smoking on church grounds right after service, but Blaise always responded with a shrug, proclaiming, “I ain’t no hypocrite.” It was a miracle he’d attend at all. Family friends and old high school buddies who ended up being church musicians themselves would request him to play every now and then, and he agreed to jam with them again, even if it was just hymns. They were busier these days, busier than him, each with wives and and a kid or two. It hurt to find that they didn’t relate like they used to. Understanding each other was a task in itself. Complex and hard to reach, it’s a miracle if you could reach him. Hell, it’s a miracle if he could fully understand himself. Very little in his life stayed stable enough for close inspection. Unfortunately, most places, opportunities and people don’t interest him enough for him to stick around for long. The only things in his life that are certain fixtures are family, God (to a degree), and music.

Wakefield, too, now.  He sees it a little differently, these days. He left, and wasn’t really planning on coming back to stay, until a couple of years ago. A couple of years ago, a close childhood friend and fling gave birth to his first child, a beautiful baby girl named Charlie. Though he made a solid effort to see his child regularly, having built his career in Nashville and distance between them made it hard for him to see her. It hurt him to be so far from his daughter while she was so young. They facetimed often and he went to see her when he had a week or so in between shows, but that wasn’t enough. He had to do right by her. He’d made some great friends in Nashville, and built a solid fanbase, but being there for his daughter during her formative years was more important.

Ever since moving to Nashville, Blaise’s chronic (but usually mild) sciatic pain was flared up to levels he’d never experienced before. He supposed it was constant pavement beating he’d been doing in the city compared to grazing the grassy fields of Wakefield. It’d been half a decade since he’d been bucked off a horse and pinched a nerve the first time, but that ongoing, intermittent issue continued to present itself. Blaise reckons he should sit down somewhere and tax his body less, but he can’t. He’s got old buddies to catch up with, a daughter to run around and chase, family properties that his family is relying on him to maintain more actively, now that he’s home. In Nashville, on days where it was hard to even get out of bed, he’d gotten used to taking prescription opiates to get him going. As soon as he decided to be home to be with Charlie, he did some outpatient rehab to wean himself off of it.

Things were going well, for a bit. He was on dosage prescription, absolutely legal this time, and it was fine. Then he found it felt like a tease, actually worsening his mood and triggering a semi-depressive state, while doing almost nothing to take away the pain. Being that irritable and in pain was starting to make him crabby, totally unlike his usual cool and calm self. That won’t do, so he’s begun to self medicate, tentatively... Just vicodin, right? He knows he could get himself back into trouble, but it’s a feeling that he can’t resist right now. He finally feels like himself again, and he’s determined to ride that wave for as long as possible. Anyway, he tried stopping, only to be thrust back into a wave of debilitating pain. So he keeps taking them.

He knows it can easily turn into an addiction, again, but doesn’t see any other options– hell if he’ll lay there in a depressed fog. Life is short, Blaise figures, and he decided he’s going to live his life without regrets, which means doing what he has to do to enjoy it without being spiritually dead, too. He’ll get a handle of it before it becomes a real problem and interferes with his professional life.

Sometimes the guilt does plague him. On the other side of the carnal flesh, there’s the spirit. His daughter. He can philosophize all he wants about enjoying life to the hilt, but the real life, real deal truth is that he has to stay alive, happy or sad. In pain or not in pain. For her. He has to stop. During his quiet mornings and dramatically fewer quiet nights, he reflects on his current position and how he almost feels like a slave to his chronic condition and to the drugs, and he hates that. A caged bird is still caged, self inflicted or not. He’s thinking about seeking out other options to treat his condition, and is tossing around the idea of inpatient rehab for his own (and Charlie’s) sake.

TW accident, death, drink driving.

Till Jadah was 10, it was just Jadah and her dad. She had never known her mother, who was someone her dad had met while traveling and on having her, she contacted him, gave Jadah to him and neither of them ever saw her again. She knew her dad's roots were in Wakefield but that was all she knew. He didn't have a family and they didn't stay in one place and even though she had been young, she could still remember how much she loved her father and how much she loved meeting new people everyday and going new places. When she was 10, and she and her dad made it to Philadelphia, they were in a car accident, her waking up from a coma hours later to the news that her father had died, they had been hit by a drunk driver. Suddenly the bright and carefree girl had nobody, and she was put in foster care, placed soon after with the Vargas family. She hated it there at first, she missed her father but she she had no choice but to accept the life that was given to her. She soon realized how lucky she was to get this life, and began to be grateful to her new dads and the other kids in the family who she soon began seeing as siblings. She knew adoption was on the table but didn't go for it as she wanted to keep the bond she had with her father. As soon as she was eighteen and graduated, she began to travel like she and her dad used to, but she did make sure she kept coming back home to her family in Wakefield.

Lydia has a happy childhood with a happy family, and even though she was a lone child she grew up with a bunch of friends and loads of love. She was 12 when her father fell ill, and 13 when he died, and after that her mother just wasn't the same. Unable to handle the grief, the woman took her daughter and moved away, settling in Brighton where Lydia suddenly had to cope not only with the loss of her father and her mother turning into a whole new person but had to begin a whole new life by herself. Making friends was hard when she was grieving but she did her best, not many stuck apart from Allison in her younger years but with time she grew back into the happy person she used to be. She made sure she visited her grandfather atleast once every year, sometimes with Allison's brother, Adam. Her grandfather used to own The Winchester bar before he handed the reigns over to Marietta considering her mom never wanted to come back. It was recently that her mother got engaged and while she was happy for her and loved her new family, she felt more like an outsider now and decided to go back to Wakefield, this time for good, finding a job there and yet again, starting a new life but with her old friends in town as well as Allison and Adam, it didnt feel all that daunting.

Brian’s parents were rich and he was an only son, and he grew up knowing only love from the nannies and not the parents. He acted out trying to get their attention but after he spent his entire childhood trying to get their attention and they absolutely did not bother, he gave up deciding that he was just not bothered anymore even though it affected him deeply. He instead focused on himself, becoming a pilot and most of his adult life afterwards flying back and forth between Wakefield and many places around the globe. He dated Piper during a lot of this time but making both their busy schedules work was nearly impossible and they both decided to end it as it was clearly getting nowhere for them. It was during one of his visits that he got drunk and slept with Sadie, who he really didn’t get along with in the first place, but on his next visit he found that she was pregnant with his child and insisted that he wanted to help. He wanted to be present for his child unlike his parents and so he quit his job and took up a part time one at CHS Flight School, and with years passing the two have fallen into a decent co-parenting schedule and he made his work schedule work accordingly.

Born the only child of Mingyu & Chen Jiang, Nuwa was a happy child and was doted on by both her parents. While people assumed she’d be lonely as an only child, she wasn’t considering her parents were both her best friends and even without them, he had Mikey who’s family Nuwa’s was very close to. She wasn’t the most extroverted kid but she made enough friends that she never felt alone.

Her life changed completely when her parents along with Mikey’s died in an accident, the happy girl turning into an orphan in a split second. Apart from the grief, she was also scared about what was going to happen to her but Mikey’s grandma graciously welcomed her into her home when she took in Mikey and she is grateful to her and Mikey for not abandoning her to this day. 

She grew up learning to cook as it was one thing her parents and she always did together, and while she took up many jobs as a young girl, starting to work at Lucky Wok just felt right and she didn’t think of doing anything else since. 

She didn’t date much and when she did, none of it really stuck and in her mid-twenties she began dating Mikey because they both felt like it made sense that they should give it a shot. To both their surprise it did go well even if Nuwa wasn’t sure if this is what romance was supposed to be like but she did feel safest and most comfortable with him. 

So when she got pregnant and they decided to have the baby, marriage followed and so did another kid except it always felt like something was missing and so they divorced three years ago to give each other a fair chance to find true love. Mikey got the house next door and they worked out the smoothest divorce and co-parenting plan. 

It wasn’t till after that she began to miss having him in her life the way she had and while the whole point had been to date other people, Nuwa didn’t try to as her heart really wasn’t in it. Realizing she probably made a mistake, the pair has decided to try again but haven’t let the kids know just yet for they both want to see where it takes them before telling anyone except their closest friends.

Born into a strict family and the only child, Lili’s life was miserable and the only thing she did was follow the rules set for her. It only got worse when her mother who had a miserable marriage of her own left her father when she was 17. She couldn’t even blame the woman for leaving her. After high school, she went to study medicine in Chicago with her cousin Esme, but her father saw that as giving her too much freedom, so then moved to Wakefield to get married at 23 to a man of her father’s choosing who treated her terribly. She completed her studies in Charleston and began to work there. When she was 26, her father died from heart failure which led to her being truly free for the first time in her life and she filed for a divorce immediately and quit her job. Her ex-husband as well as father’s brother tried to take control of her life and her father’s wealth but she didn’t let it happen, instead getting a lawyer to kick them out of her life and choosing to live life to the fullest now that she had the freedom to be.

Pat was the oldest child to Imogen and Ralph Ashdown, his sister Bridget, two years younger than him. They weren’t the exactly well off, but they got by and had a happy, content childhood. At the age of 9, their dad got sick and after three years of being in and out of hospitals, the medical bills piling up but nothing worked, and sadly, Ralph passed away when he was 12. Imogen was left with two children to raise, far too many bills and had to take another job to pay the bills which left Pat and Brie to spend most of their time in each other's company. Even though the Ashdowns always offered to help, Pat took it as his responsibility to take care of his mom and sister as much as he could and began working after school since the age of 13. It was a couple years later that their mother lost one of her jobs, and was unable to get another, making it impossible for them to pay the bills. So they lost the house. They were officially homeless, her mother not wanting to burden anyone by asking for help. They spent two months living in their mother’s car before their Uncle realized what had happened and despite not being that well off themselves, took the three of them in. They lived with their Uncle, Aunt and Cousin Jade until their mother managed to get back on their feet. It was when he was around 21 that he began to date Marietta, who was his friend from school that he realized that he had been having feelings for her for a long time. A couple years into dating when they were 23, the discussion of the future came up and Etta told him she didn't want kids which was something which shocked Pat considering she already had a niece who she adored with her whole heart. It led to the pair breaking up because he did want kids some day and there wasn't a point to staying together when they wanted different things. They stayed friends and Pat dated a little but nothing really stuck. It was when he was 25 that he one night got a call from one of the women he dated saying she was pregnant with his child and was going into labour at a hospital in Charleston. He rushed there immediately but hours later when the child was born, it didn't survive. The incident changed him in many ways and after processing the grief, he got back together with Marietta few months later, not having kids didn't seem like the worst idea anymore. They got engaged when they were 29, but soon after, Etta changed her mind and said she wanted kids, an idea which he wasn't open to anymore. The broke up again when they were 30, again due to wanting different things, and Pat hasn't dated anyone else seriously since. It was when he was 32 that Pat bought the butcher shop which he has been working in since ages and while his personal life was in shambles, he was financially much better off than he used to be.
