⛰ ROOFTOP OF SLOVAKIA ⛰ . It was late September when we decided to hike up to peak called Volovec, and then see nearby smaller peak called Lucna, both on Polish-Slovak border. . We started quite early, because the hike is almost 20km, most of the time steep ascends and descends. Day was supposed to be sunny, and it was. And also quite warm, reaching up to 20°C at the ridge. But in the morning, 6am, we experienced chilling 2°C. That is how it is in the mountains. Story about Velky Choc night hike finally comes to an end. We started to descend at roughly 7am, time when majority of hikers woke up, or started the hike at best. One detail I did not mention before was that even though it was late May, it was freezing up there. Literally frezing, as it was -1°C and quite a breeze of northern winds. . ❄ REMINISCENT OF THIS WINTER ❄ . I have had many plans for winter 2019/2020. I had my skiis ready and I was waiting for the first snow. And suddenly, it was January and still no snow. Some fell during February and finally I was able to do some skitouring in High Tatras. Everywhere else the conditions were average, or below average. I think this photo is from end of February, and actually it was almost my last Skitouring trip this winter. Powder was great tgat day, so was the weather. 🗻 U P I N T H E M O U N T A I N S 🗻 🇸🇰 Always the same drill - wake up at 3:50am, drive to Tatry mountains, arrival at 7:15, with the sun still not up. Gear up as fast as possible, start tracking with my new Suunto watch, start incline. After reaching the summit, have a lunch at 10am, hoping to find the mountain hut open and serving soup & shot of Horec. Change of clothes, mainly snow jacket. Decline and arrival at closed hut in less than 3hrs. Eating snack, final sips of tea, going down fast... Arrival at the car, exchanging clothes for dry ones and heading home. Getting stuck in traffic jam. Arrival at home at 7pm. Shower, stretching, falling asleep dead. The snow was excellent and slopes were great for skitouring. . I wish snow falls again very soon so I have an opportunity to go there on skiis. . The hill is called Babky and is the westernmost hill in Rohace.
