Merry Christmas 🎄 and Happy Holidays everyone! Hope you’ve had a wonderful day wherever you are in the world. Today I’m joining in with the tag #booksyouwouldgift which I saw on the lovely Claire from @ormondebooks page I am so lucky to have some amazing bookish family and friends in my life but it’s usually much easier to get a book from a wishlist, then I can be sure they don’t already have it! 😅 However, this little stack I would definitely consider gifting because they are all SO BEAUTIFUL 😍 My Cousin Rachel by Daphne du Maurier - I read this recently with my booksta pals @lovedreadingthis and @always_need_more_books review to come! This is a stunning Vintage Modern Classic Designer Edition and it made me realise I want the whole set 😂 As Kerrie mentioned in her review, the paper is just gorgeous and it feels lovely to read one of these! The House In The Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune - one of my books of the year. This exclusive @illumicrate edition has the most stunning sprayed edges I think I’ve ever seen and the story is so special. Highly recommended if you haven’t read it yet!! The Summer That Melted Everything by Tiffany McDaniel - this was the author’s first published book. I read it because of my bestie @tarheelreader and I’m now obsessed. (Betty was also one of my books of the year last year). I’m eagerly anticipating another book by this author! Circe by Madeleine Miller - I buddy read this with @keeperofpages and it started a Greek mythology re-tellings obsession that I have LOVED this year. Janel bought me this hardback for my birthday as she knew how much I wanted it 🥲🥲🥲 (I previously had the paperback). Anne Of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery - this is one of my favourite childhood books and I’m going to adore re-reading it in this gorgeous Seasons Edition, again brought to my attention by @tarheelreader 🤣 hopefully at some point next year. What do you think of my choices? What books would you love to gift? Let’s have a chat in the comments! 🤗😘 #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #booksasgifts #beautifulbooks #favouritebooks #favouriteauthors #mycousinrachel #daphnedumaurier #vmcdesignercollection #thehouseintheceruleansea #tjklune https://www.instagram.com/p/CX63zh2rdr7/?utm_medium=tumblr

I read Excellent Women in this gorgeous Virago Modern Classics Designer Collection with a group of lovely bookstagrammers tagged in this post. It’s the first time I’ve read anything by Barbara Pym and now I’ve finished, I clearly need to remedy that and read everything she’s written!⁣ ⁣ The story follows Mildred Lathbury, a clergy man’s daughter living in post-war 1950’s Britain and one of those so-called “excellent women,” who isn’t married yet but are intelligent, pleasant to be around and sadly, repressed as men take them for granted. We see the world through Mildred’s eyes as she becomes embroiled in the relationship of her new neighbours, anthropologist Helena and her charismatic husband Rocky. ⁣ ⁣ Somewhere around the periphery is a good friend and local vicar, Julian Malory who makes a questionable life choice which causes Mildred to re-assess her own thoughts and desires. ⁣ ⁣ This is a gentle and calm novel that was such a pleasure to read. The characters are beautifully written and were so interesting that I could picture them all individually. Barbara Pym has a real talent and an eye for subtle detail, that is - she says so much with few words but the entire atmosphere of a scene or personality of an individual is obvious to the reader. ⁣ ⁣ I really felt for Mildred’s predicament, admired her tenacity, determination and morals and championed the way in which she went about her life and interacted with others. This was such a comforting and clever story that I can’t wait to read much more from Barbara Pym.⁣ ⁣ Thank you to all the amazing bookstagrammers I read this with and to the lovely @lovedreadingthis for inviting me 😊⁣ ⁣ Four stars 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 ⁣ #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookreview #buddyreads #fourstarreview #fourstarread #excellentwomen #barbarapym #vmcdesignercollection #beautifulbooks #booksandflowers ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ https://www.instagram.com/p/CWVFastLUcV/?utm_medium=tumblr

Hello everyone and happy Friday to you all! I’ve had an amazing day today as I’ve had the day off from work and it’s been so lovely. Time to celebrate with a book haul 😉 I’ve added two more VMC Designer Collection books with absolutely stunning covers. Good Behaviour follows the forces of sex, money jealousy and love which are locked out by the rituals of good behaviour. Sounds intriguing! 🤔 Meanwhile, A Game Of Hide And Seek follows characters who are caught out by their own desires and decisions and they demand our attention. Finally, I have Full Dark, No Stars by the master that is Stephen King. Now I do already have this collection in hardback but this edition has an extra story in that I’m reading with my #keeperofking bookclub this month so of course I couldn’t resist! I’d love to know your thoughts on any of these books or authors. Let’s have a chat in the comments! Have a lovely weekend everyone 🤗😘 #bookstagram #bookheaven #bookhaul #bookhoarder #paperbackhaul #goodbehaviour #mollykeane #fulldarknostars #stephenking #agameofhideandseek #elizabethtaylor #beautifulbooks #vmcdesignercollection #beautifulhardbacks https://www.instagram.com/p/CUN2qyaAHlo/?utm_medium=tumblr

Hello everyone and happy Monday to you all! Hope your week has started off well. It’s book haul day! In this little haul I’ve added to my VMC designer editions with Black Narcissus and The Dud Avocado. Black Narcissus follows the disciplined Sisters of Mary as they have a palace bestowed on them that was formally used by the General’s harem. Now an English gentleman depends on them for help. However his charm and insolent candour is disconcerting… My copy of The Dud Avocado is a little battered as I bought it second hand but I couldn’t find a new copy anywhere. This story is the timeless portrait of a woman hell-bent on living and all her comedic and romantic adventures as she flees America for Paris in the 1950’s. Finally, I couldn’t resist this little pocket book for £1 from Penguin. Drawing on Baldwin’s own experiences of prejudice in an American violently divided by race, these essays blend the intensely personal with the political to envisage a better world. I’d love to know your thoughts on any of these books or authors. I haven’t read any of the authors before so are these a good place to start? Hello everyone, it’s Friday and I’m so relieved! It was my first week back full time at my job and I’m happy to have made it through. Any excuse for a book haul!! Mrs Palfrey At The Claremont and The Diary Of A Provincial Lady are two more of the Vintage Modern Classics Designer Editions that I’m slowly collecting. The former follows recently widowed Mrs Palfrey who arrives at a hotel where she plans to stay for the rest of her life. She meets a host of interesting and eccentric individuals and a young writer who gives her the hope of falling in love again. Diary Of A Provincial Lady follows the daily life of a frugal English household in the 1930’s, more specifically from the point of view of a long suffering and disaster prone Devon lady. Finally we have She Who Became The Sun which ticked all my boxes before I had even seen this beautiful cover. It’s been described as Mulan meets Song Of Achilles, a bold, queer and lyrical imagining which charts the rise of the Ming dynasty through its founding emperor. Literary fantasy? Okay, I’m interested 🤔😍 As always I’d love to know your thoughts on any of these books or authors. Or let me know if you collect special editions and which ones you have. Let’s have a chat in the comments! Have a lovely weekend everyone 🤗😘 #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookhaul #hardbackhoarder #hardbackhaul #beautifulbooks #vmcdesignercollection #mrspalfreyattheclaremont #elizabethtaylor #shewhobecamethesun #shelleyparkerchan #thediaryofaprovinciallady #emdelafield #morebooksplease #abaniscoming https://www.instagram.com/p/CTprwN8Lb-R/?utm_medium=tumblr
