if you don't mind sharing with the class, how do you do your sprite edits? they look so cool ive always wanted to do them myself but i didn't know where to start!!!

Okay so I kinda cheat I follow the tried and true method of tracing over the sprite and changing things as I go (usually on a different layer)

my process is also needlessly complicated because i’m scared i’ll mess up so i keep everything on a separate layer but it works so

I also sketch beforehand and play with the sprite itself to see how it would look before I really go in with lineart (checking if my proportions look right and i’m not crazy) and then I clean up. Big thing to also remember and that I have to force myself to remember is that these sprites are small and don’t need too many details, so if your redesign is very complicated i’d recommend trying to boil it down to its most important aspects and design points so that the sprite is still readable and easy on the eye. Of course these are just edits so you can have fun but i’ve found that at least in my case my over designing doesn’t translate well to sprite so I try to tone down the details but find a way to incorporate it in a way that’s flattering and good on the eyes.

my Mocha Ray as an example because I removed some bits to keep it simple but opted to add the patterns to add a subtle touch if that makes sense

I also really recommend using a hard brush, of course this isn’t needed but if you want that more “canon” look that is definitely your best bet. I personally use these brushes because they have that effect but have that grainy look i love a lot in my art. Not sure if this helped my process is kinda all over the place but if it works for me it might work for you (^▽^)👍

HI I just wanna say you're art looks SO EDIBLE AND I WANT TO EAT IT in like a VERY VERY good way I promise. On another note when I was looking at your art I noticed your design of Roguefort having like an eye scar (???) is there any reason for that? I found it super cool and wanted to know if there was any thought behind it or it was just smth cool to add 👁️

YESSSSS YESSSS SOMEONE FINALLY ASKED YESSSSSS YESSSS ok.

You may have noticed that in some of my designs the character will have several cracks on their body, specifically around the eye area.

To put it in simple terms, they’ve altered the timeline or had an accident whilst time traveling which has caused their body to become destabilized from their normal timeline causing a rift to form on their bodies.

In Roguefort’s case them and Croissant have history, being one of the main patrons behind her timecraft wanting to use the research to hopefully restore House Roquefort back to its former glory and find their parents. Saaadddly things do not always go to plan and so they had a falling out but Roguefort stole the Timeweaver Scissors. This is where the storyline of the operation time guard costumes and roguefort’s hunt starts, walnut eventually getting stuck with them in one of these rifts (their eyes are green because technically their timeguard versions are supposed to be alternate universe versions but they fucked up the timeline so they’re slowly coming together and their main bodies are becoming unstable) and thats basically a quick rundown.

If ur cool with sharing, what are some of ur cookie run takes/opinions?

Uhhhh i’m trying to think from the top of my head since I’m very opinionated um I think my biggest take is that i’m not a fan of how grounded CRK feels. If that makes sense like at all, I love how ovenbreak taps more into fantasy and myth with its designs it just feels more fresh. The republic and odyssey kinda sealed that in for me that while the writing was amazing it just felt boring and uninspired i’m so bored of the crk designs where it’s like Knight #1 and Knight #2, Public official, random solider. That’s why characters like Black Pearl and Unicream really do it for me, they just tap into the fantasy and whimsical nature that i wish they’d explore more in the cookie run franchise. Ovenbreak may have really dookie writing but oh my god does it bring up some cool concepts and ironically it’s the main reason i’m so passionate abt my rewrite I love me some high fantasy and I love making everything whimsical and I think if crk let itself have some fun and play with more crazy concepts (they did it with city of wizards but fumbled the ending imo but i was happy nonetheless( i’d care more about it 🧍

Sparkling/Apple: father Daughter

Birthday Cake/Firecracker: not blood related but they have a found family thing going on where Bday just adopted them

Cinnamon/Wizard: again not blood related I just think Cinnamon gives off crazy uncle vibes

Mint/Cocoa/Chestnut: they adopted him in my head it might not be canon but I love to lie to myself.

Millennial Tree/Wind Archer: father son duo IDGAF

Choco Bonbon/Adventurer: Mother son, but adventurer doesn't like her all that much. I also mentioned that Blackberry sees Bonbon almost like a mother figure as well.

Moonlight/Stardust: Ironically when the story dropped and I beat it in 2 hrs I went "so they're basically siblings" and I thought it was purely hc and turns out they're canonically brother and sister so that's fucking awesome I love being right.

Mango/Ananas: not even in an adopted sense I just think they're actually parent and child, and before you ask yes mango is part dragon. Answering that before I get 9999 ask about it

Those are some that immediately come to thy brain but there's definitely a lot more I am just a lazy bastard lol

I love ur redesigns, can u give any tips/advice when it comes to character design ?

thank you! I'm still practicing but I like to do a bit of research on the character i'm trying to make! its in WIP hell but atm i'm currently doing a bunch of digging on flapper culture and 1920s fashion for my rendition of cheesecake since she was heavily inspired from that era. Having a bunch of references and just messing around is also a good idea, I love just playing around with concepts and seeing what sticks in the first draft compared to the final draft. Don't expect perfection on the first go and just play around and see what sticks and what doesn't! try to look at the silhouettes too I will send the design ideas to friends and get their opinions on it like "would this character wear this?" "thoughts on this style for {x}?" mess around with colors too. My brain is absolute mush but i pray you get some sort of help outta this sorry for being a scatterbrain ahah

Not many strong thoughts I appreciate them, kinda annoyed from how nothing burger a lot of their events can be at times but I understand it’s more of a fundamental issue with ovenbreak than the dragons mostly, crk proved that for me but if I had to pick a favorite it’s Lotus and Pitaya :)

of course! I don’t own a headcanon and you’re free to take inspiration and take things you find interesting. In fact I encourage it, I’d love to see people write into my au and play around with my ideas and make something outta it. My redesigns are also completely fair game, you’re free to take pieces you find cool and apply it. All i ask is for credit if you draw them ^^

I posted it on instagram but I made my headcanon/rewrite doc public for everyone so i’ll post it here too, it has my magic rules, universe lore, species and subspecies rules and I plan on updating it whenever I get the time \^u^/ enjoy!!

So either I'm an idiot who's looking into things too much, or Cocoa is the cookie equivalent to GOD (ignoring Dark Cacao)

My co-writer (squidswithsocks on both ig and tumblr) is the main contributor to the chocolate lore in the doc and au so I sent this ask to her and this was basically her response, hope this explains a bit more for you anon ^^👍

Okay tysm for this question because i absolutely adore rambling abt my dynamic for them YAY

They absolutely despise one another, so for a quick rundown Chili and Addie were partners at point in their teens as Adventurer was a really angsty kid who took out his anger by helping chili steal shit from convenience stores and just being general menaces. When Adventurer began really getting into his explorer work he had brought chili with him and blackberry on a trip and when they were about to get out with the treasure Chili attacked him, stealing the treasure which caused Blackberry to instinctively attack Chili which ended up with Blackberry accidentally slashing Chili’s eye which is why his eye is all fucked up like that. Nowadays Adventurer is just one of the MANY MANY people Chili has screwed over in their endless escapades and Addie still holds that grudge…my mangum opus of making shit up right there.
