for: anyone | @vievecorcitystarters | ghost festival event location: The City Park
The 'Buns on wheels' was parked in a strategic spot in Vievecor City Park. Strategic, not in the business sense, but in the sense that Gabbie could potentially smoke a joint between serving customers. But, as luck would have it, someone actually decided to come up to the food truck and order something.
The redhead pulled back her hair, leaned forward on the counter and flashed a stiffly polite smile. "The menu s' right there if you're going to order something."

You spot a bird and as you move closer to investigate, there is something about it that looks familiar.
Oneiroi.
A dream spirit. You are able to recognise this magical creature because of your affinity for dream magic or simply because your demonic or divine natures can repel its magic. Once you do, the spell it has over you is no more and you remember who you really are once more.
OOC: Your character has broken free of the oneiroi’s spell and returned to normal within this collective dream. They can choose to simply leave this dream and wake up or they can choose to help others wake up from this dream. What will they choose to do?
Elijah was hit by another one of those strange dissociative episodes that had been turning up, but this time it didn't stop. So all the strange feelings were true. None of this was real. All the bizarre things he'd been half remembering were the truth, and this was the dream.
He leaned against the archway nearby and covered his face, trying to sort through his thoughts. For a moment, he almost wanted to go back to not knowing. Apparently he couldn't keep his marriage together in any universe, but at least in the dream he'd known where all his children were, and that they were safe. But this couldn't last.
Should he wake other people up? If he'd been pulled out of the dream, there had to be some way for him to spread that effect to others. But who? He looked around to see if there was anyone else who looked disturbed or like they were seeing the world through new eyes.

Who: Vivian Nora x Open ( @vievecorcitystarters ) Where: Coffee Shop in Garond When: VC AU Event- Being Human Despite her tired state, Nora couldn't help but let out a laugh at the spunky preschooler being silly in the coffee line. The blond had just picked up Adeline from spending the night at her grandparents, wanting to have breakfast with her before dropping her off at school. Although Nora could feel her bed loudly calling her name after a hectic shift, she cherished these moments with Addy.
In the time that it took Nora to order their breakfast, Adeline had decided to wander off, appearing next to another patron to spew her ever-curious questions. Nora's heart sank as she realized Addy had disappeared from beside her, letting out a sigh of relief as she noticed her at a nearby table, "Addy, baby, what have I told you about wandering off," she chided, appearing next to the table. "I am so sorry if she bothered you," Nora fawned with an embarrassed flush of her cheeks.

Forgetful minds, watchful eyes
For: @makena-harris Location: The Spirit Festival
Thorsiffe had been one of many to volunteer at the spirit festival. Candles were not their customary way of honoring their ancestors and the spirits of the world, but they had never been one to close themself off to the customs of others. To them, the most important thing was that these rituals were held and celebrated as a community, and as such they were more than happy to not only participate but help out as well.
The mysterious mark that had appeared upon their chest had dampened their mood though. Like a cold fog rolling over the hills, filling your nose and laying thick upon your tongue, before dawn's light could reach warm your skin and bring color to your eyes. They had no idea how it had appeared upon their chest. Gwen had not either, even though she had gone to sleep next to them the night it had found its way upon their chest.
Looking at it, just thinking of it, made them feel uneasy. As if a predator was skulking just outside their vision. A predator whose face they should recognize, but couldn't.
They'd pushed all those thoughts to the back of their mind, to the best of their abilities. Rather than letting the cursed mark ruin the festival, Thorsiffe wore it on full display. An act of defiance against the mark and how it made them feel, in some esoteric way.
They wore a low-cut crop top. Aside from the strange mark, the tattoos covering most of their torso were proudly displayed, and that knowledge brought some further comfort and courage to Thorsiffe. The cold had never bothered them either, and they were smiling from ear to ear as they were handing out candles, no matter the looks their odd choice of attire might've earned them.
A familiar face joined them behind the stand, and Thorsiffe's smile curled up into a grin. "Makena, hey! Nice seeing you here."

who; Anyone [Open Starter] what; Being Human AU where; Chissob Hills Forest Grounds when; a couple of days before the Ghost Festival
Lynn, as usual, had been watching. With only a couple of days before the Ghost Festival, Chissob Hills and The Shipyard was buzzing with promotional activity and setup. He was sent to interview a couple of volunteers, businesses, and workers just to promote in the festival in a new article. It was easy work. Within the hour, he had enough details and stories to create a fabulous, fluffy piece that the paper would be able to run for days. He was just about to leave when he saw it.
A security guard and someone else obviously arguing over entry. With the festival still being setup, it wasn't open to the public just yet. Only those with special badges. Lynn had almost forgotten his own badge when walking in. He winced in shared solidarity over the mere stress of not having access to a place he needed to be. Maybe that's why he said what he did.
"Oh, actually, they're with me."
Lynn flashed his media badge with a smile. A few tense seconds of silence passed between journalist, security guard, and accused trespasser. Feeling his lie wasn't getting him anywhere, he continued, "I need to interview them for the festival. I just...forgot about the badge."
Tumblr media
Did he sound just as terrible on lying as he felt? Lynn was going to scrap the whole thig when the security guard seemed to be appeased and walked away. Lynn heaved a sigh and ran a hand through his hair.
"....I don't suppose you would be interested in an interview?"

location: lunar heights pub (night) with: @eri-mergo
𓇼 - - - - - - - - 🩸 - - - - - - - - 𓇼
"Well, hell. It looks like we missed the band," Izak said to Eri as he walked into the pub. The musicians were packing up their sound gear and instruments, smiling as they did so. Musicians never smiled like that unless the gig went very well or absolute shit, and by the sparse clientele, it was easy to guess it was the latter.
Whatever. It just meant he didn't have to yell over sets, and that his chat between him and his band mate (well, that was up for debate since they typically just tended to practice with each other) could be a little more intimate. He lead Eri to one of his favorite booths toward the back where it had a great view of the front door and the venue.
Sliding into the booth, he flagged down the waitress to order a big dark ale, and once she left after getting their order, he leaned forward to put his elbows on the table. "So how's work going? I'm sure it's just a bunch of chicks asking for flowers on their shoulders or dudes wanting tree lines above their knees."

human au; the streamer (and college student, but that's not important)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
name: Sayuri Remington age: 23 gender: trans woman fc: Asami Zdrenka
about:
Elijah has always had sole custody of Sayuri. While she's had some contact with her mother's family, and especially her grandmother, she never met her mother. She's never asked about it.
Sometime in her childhood, Elijah and Jaxon got married. She remembers feeling neutral about it at the time, but grew to like Jaxon over time.
At about 14, she realized she was trans. She came out at 15, and started HRT at 17. She named herself after her maternal grandmother, who had passed when she was 12.
After she graduated high school, she took three "gap years": partially to complete her social and legal transition, partially to get and recover from top surgery, and partially due to a couple other health issues.
During these gap years, she worked, like, ten hours a week at various retail part time jobs just to "get out of the house". She also, at the recommendation of her friends, began streaming.
Eventually her health issues were sorted out, and she applied to and easily got into college. She is a business major, despite having little to no interest in the classes/program.
Her grades are lackluster, mostly due to her not trying; she's barely passed most semesters. This semester she's doing especially bad, due to an increase in her streaming schedule. She is tempted to drop out (and/or is about to flunk out) to stream full time.
She's not a large streamer, but she is making a couple thousand a month from it, and thinks increasing the time she can dedicate to it will give her an income she could live off of.

Gwendolyn Reed || VC AU Event- Being Human
Gwen grew up the baby of her family and the daddy’s girl of two of VC’s most successful men, at least in Gwen’s eyes. Her daddy Jaxon was a high-class businessman who spoiled Gwen nearly rotten, and her dad Elijah was a fascinating Art History professor who spoiled her just the same. Despite their busy careers, they always found time to spend with their children, exploring their interests and making sure they had everything they needed. As far back as she could remember, she was surrounded by nothing but love from her fathers, and her two older brother’s Zachariah and Caleb. Being the only female in the household had it’s perks, but it also came with it’s limitations. As Gwen aged, she tended to be more of a tomboy, without many opportunities to indulge her more feminine nature.
It wasn’t until she reached high school that it became a problem, at least to the other school kids who began to bully her for being different. Thankfully this is when she met Leela, who took her under her wing. From the first day, they were attached at the hip, one rarely seen without the other. This is also how Gwen began to see Leela’s mother, Esme, as a mother figure, and a strong female role model.
After high school, Gwen struggled with the stresses of deciding her future, feeling the pressure of wanting to make her fathers proud. Unable to decide, Gwen instead chose to take a gap year to backpack around Europe. She figured this would give her an opportunity to see the world and give her a better idea of where she wanted to see herself. Although her fathers did not like the idea of her going on this trip alone, she eventually got them to cave and allow her this opportunity. After an extensive list of rules for safety, and they promise of calls every day, Gwen was off.
One gap year turned into two, not counting the times she returned home for holidays. Throughout her travels, she had many adventures, but always found the most enjoyment when she got to see the different animals along her travels. Now Gwen is back in Vievecor City and starting her first year of college in Veterinary Medicine. She still has the nerves and panic that comes with starting a new chapter of her life, but with her family by her side, Gwen’s excited to see what’s in store.

Lucas "Luke" Turner|| VC AU Event- Being Human
Luke was born and raised on the streets of Vievecor City. He grew up watching his father be the hero of Vievecor, protecting and serving its citizens as a detective on the VC police force. One night, when Luke was just fifteen, a sting operation went south, taking his father and Luke's innocence with it. He took the loss of his father hard, and the fact that the killer had walked after the trial even harder. The anger turned to rage inside of him, always wishing he could get revenge on the evil bastards who took his father away from his family. His mother, a high school English teacher, grew fearful of what that anger may do to her son. Eventually getting through to him, she encouraged him to channel his wrath into the law. Luke worked his way through law school as a bartender, choosing to live at home for most of his undergrad to support his mom and little brother. He was now the man of the family, taking his role as such very seriously, just as his dad had. While he was studying for his bar exam, he met Wendy, a dental hygienist with blue eyes that Luke could swim in for days. They eventually married and had two children, twins named Stephen and Sophia. Luke built a happy life as he tried to swallow his rage, a successful life filled with promise. Becoming a Prosecutor did nothing to satiate Luke's hunger for revenge. Although his track record in the courtroom was near flawless, some of the city's filth seeped through the cracks. Each time a guilty person walked caused Luke to seethe further into his appetite for revenge. He became so blinded by it that by the time he'd realized his wife was having an affair, he was already being served divorce papers. That was the last straw for Luke, the last thing holding his sanity in place. It started with a child predator who'd walked months before that he'd accidentally run into on the street. Eventually, it worked up to the point where Luke was an efficient pro, cleansing the streets of its scum, one murder at a time. This is how he became "The VC Ripper."

name: peter henderson age: 24 years old occupation: currently in culinary school
Pete grew up working class. His mother died when he was eight years old, perishing in a mysterious fire at their family home while Peter was at school. With his mother's death, his father received enough insurance money to fix their home and also buy a diner.
Pete began working in the diner at the age of 12.
His father was angry, abusive and an alcoholic. He would often rant and rave about how Peter didn't deserve anything he worked hard for. In one of his drunk rants, he let slip something that made Peter believe his father killed his mother for her insurance.
At the age of eighteen, he burned down the family diner. His father died in the blaze, much to peter's delight. The fire was called accidental after finding issues with the electricity that his father hadn't resolved. Peter walked away with a few burns and nothing more.
Despite his hatred for his father, Peter still held a passion for cooking and decided to go to culinary school.

human au; the struggling bookshop owner
Tumblr media
name: Lillian Amorim (nee Reed) age: 29 occupation: owner of pandora's
about:
Lillian is the eldest of three, born to rather young, religious parents. She was an overachiever, the smartest of her siblings, which didn't overly please her parents; they thought their youngest child, their only boy, should have been the high achiever that Lillian was.
Still, they were a close family, and she had their support as she excelled in school and began collecting scholarships.
In high school, she met her high school sweetheart; they would get married about a year after graduating, while she was in her freshman year of college. She majored in English Literature and Education (which her parents insisted upon). Her husband would enter into the business world (as a nepotism hire, as his father was high up in the chain of command).
When she completed her BA, graduating with honors, she was quickly accepted into a Master's program for Library Science. Her parents did not approve, as they hoped she would become a teacher and settle into a more caring, motherly role in her life.
She worked and went to classes, which resulted in her having a lighter courseload and, thus, a longer time in school. About halfway through the program, she discovered her husband was cheating on her. In the following divorce, she was forced to drop out of school and he more or less ruined her life/credit/finances and dragged it out as long as possible.
Her parents entirely disapproved, blaming her continuing her education instead of becoming a teacher and mother on the divorce. While they didn't cut her out of their lives, and she was too scared to cut them off, the majority of their attention remained on her younger siblings, both married and starting families of their own.
She's not sure if it was meant as an insult, but her parents signed over ownership of the family business (which had been started by Lillian's great-grandparents), an old little bookstore called Pandora's. They had mostly neglected the business since inheriting it themselves, and Lillian very quickly had to learn how to run a business.
It's been about two and a half years since the divorce was finalized. Pandora's isn't doing well, but isn't bleeding money like it used to. A few of her close friends have begun setting her up on dates, despite her fears.
proposed/wanted connections:
Two or three close friends (Atlas)
People she's had dates with (that went nowhere)
People she's had dates with (that had a spark)
People she's had dates with (that resulted in a secret third thing) (Auggie)
Maybe an employee (Leon)
Anything else, I am very open

Head tilted, dark eyes watching. Gabbie felt a surge of recognition as she stared down the darkness of the bird's eye. The world shuddered around her and shattered.
Gabe blinked. This place, this body, these feelings -- they weren't real. Or almost. They were real enough in his mind, but he knew that there was some other place, some other body, and other people who were more real. He could see it when he looked around at the guests of the Ghost Festival, like a shimmer of who they really were. Shit, this was making his head hurt. He was still Gabbie, he was still at the Ghost Festival, but he knew there was a way out of there.
Looking around he tried to see if someone else was going through the same thing. If not, he'd have to warn them and help them wake up. He grabbed a nearby person's arm, "Hey, this is going to sound like some Inception level shit, but I think this is a dream, and we have to get out."

Elijah noticed the mark when he was taking off his clothes to take a shower after he came back from talking with Caleb. He looked down at it before going into the bathroom to look in the mirror so he could see it better. It was the exact same target symbol he had seen on Caleb, the one his son swore wasn't a tattoo, and now Elijah was starting to believe him. How could it look the exact same though? Elijah had checked the inside of his shirt, but there was nothing there that could have cause the mark. Caleb came around the house more often than his sisters, but there was still nothing he could think of that would cause the two of them to get the same mark.
He brought a hand up to touch the mark, running a fingertip around the circles. Out of nowhere, he got a mental image of himself almost craddling a white fox with splotches of blood on his fur. 'It's ok, Kang.' And somehow he was sure that the fox was able to understand what he was saying. The fox's- Kang's head was resting against his shoulder right where the mark was.
But he'd never held a fox like that. He'd never held a fox at all. He knew a man named Kang who was a dance instructor at VU every few semesters, but Elijah wasn't sure why he was taking his name and applying it to an imaginary fox. But it didn't feel imaginary, it somehow felt like a memory. But it wasn't a dream he had had before or anything like that, so how could it feel so familiar and natural?
His phone ringing jolted him out of his thoughts and Elijah let his hand fall away to go retrieve it, smiling slightly when he saw it was Jax. "Hey babe... He's good... When you get home I- I can show you when you get here... Yeah, no, I'm ok... ok, I'll see you soon."

The moment you spot one of these birds and move closer to investigate is the moment you are overcome with a sense of dread that is heavy enough to send you running!
You know that this is deeply tied to the symbol that appeared on your body. As you stumble deep into the surrounding forest to try to escape, everything becomes more terrifying.
There is no doubt that you are being hunted now because you can hear someone chasing you through the trees and you can practically feel them breathing down your neck…
OOC: Your character will find it extremely difficult getting out of this headspace and will need the help of another character to break out of it. This character can only be one who has broken free of the oneiroi’s magic.
She had gone with her daughter to light a remembrance for her father. While she cared little for her ex husband, Esme would not begrudge her child her father's memory. She never spoke poorly of him in front of her though her expression often showed how she felt about it all. After they had finished, Esme had given her daughter some money and kissed her goodbye. No young adult wanted to spend a fun night out with their mother so she let her go before she tried to make an excuse.
The party was in full effect, patrons weaving in and out of the crowd. Esme found herself near the theatre, watching the festivities when she caught sight of a bird. Something about it's appearance made her neck itch, her hand going to rub at the new mark that had appeared on there.
Tumblr media
A terrible feeling filled her suddenly, like the bird was a bad omen telling her to run. Fear overwhelmed her but Esme wasn't easily scared and instead of running she stilled, surveying the area around her, trying to figure out where that fear was coming from. She thought she could handle the situation but another wave of dread washed over her.
Leela.
Esme turned and ran, running as fast as she could, back towards where they had parted. "Leela?" she called. Her voice couldn't cut through the crowd, her cries getting drowned out by white noise. "Leela? Please, my daughter... I need to get to my daughter."

Loud-thundering dreams
For: @gwen-lycaon Location: Thorsiffe's dorm
Thorsiffe found themself aboard a ship, sailing over waves that reached to the sky and under cloud that reached down to push back the ocean's wrath. Only the thundering stormclouds were louder than the crashing of water upon the hull, and in the absence of the sun, bright-shining lightning lit up skies.
A wave struck them and Thorsiffe was flung against the mast. It broke their spine, but they could not hear the snapping of their own bones over the sound of their laughter against the storm. Lightning struck the mast, and even as the wood groaned the last breath of a dying god, Thorsiffe's laughter drowned out all other noise, howling upon the wind.
They were in the water then, icy cold yet comfortably warm. Below them the sky shone upon the ocean's surface, and above the moon shone upon them. They swam towards it, tasting the salt water upon their lips. Their figure cast a shadow upon the moon, growing ever closer. Suddenly, it shifted, becoming crescent. Another crescent moon appeared, and Thorsiffe saw them for the eyes that they truly were.
A giant maw opened, and venom replaced the salt upon their lips.
They walked through an icy cavern, their body stark naked, yet the ice sizzled and bubbled into steam as it touched their skin. They knew the cave to be buried deep beneath the mountains, though they saw neither its walls nor ceiling.
They saw a figure in the distance though, within the ice. Their arms outstretched, their formless face hidden beneath a hood. They stepped closer, drawn in by this nameless emissary of the ice. They were not human, nor a god. They had no flesh, only ice, nor a face, only the cold. They were it, they were the ice. Their arms remained frozen in place, outstretched and welcoming. Yet it veiled its face under a hood of its own being.
Another step closer, and before the faceless face of the ice, Thorsiffe saw a great pit. It called them closer, a hungering maw that could never be sated. Another step closer, and the cold wind, the whisper of the ice crept into their ear. Another step closer, and the faceless mouth spoke to them. Another step closer, and they felt their feet freeze over as they stepped onto the edge. Another step closer...
Thorsiffe woke up with a scream.
Sitting upright, a sheen of cold sweat covered their skin. They caught their breath through half-panicked pants. Within seconds, reality returned to them, but it felt entirely too slow to Thorsiffe. A hot flush came upon their cheeks as they turned to Gwen, dark hair sprawled out across their pillow. Of course, the nightmare had come to them on one of the lucky nights their girlfriend could spend the night.
"Ah... I'm sorry, my pretty, I didn't mean to wake you," they whispered, offering her a sorry smile.
