Hello there ma'am/sir! Have you seen any Vampire Hu Tao fanfics by any chance? I'm currently looking for some. If you're interested in what I'm doing, feel free to check my blog and read the pinned post!
I- please- how is is this the first time I've heard of this concept- it fits so well.....
....... it's 5 am i really shouldn't be doing headcanons right now but now but- ideas.
Spoilers for Hu Tao and Qiqi backstories
- first things first, since vampires dont exist, or at least havent been mentioned yet in the canon lore, there has to be some way to include them and figure out just how Hu Tao became a vampire-
- which I'd assume has to be around age six- since literally in canon her story says "At six, she would cut classes and fall asleep in coffins."
- there's also the point that was made during her story quest where she's talking about the Funeral Parlor's origin, with it being founded during a plague, I think because of that it would make sense to make it so the Funeral Directors in general tend to be vampires(if we assume the first director was immune to the plague)
- afterall, their job is to guard the border between life and death, and it would make sense then that this would be easier to do if they themselves were on that border.
- however theres a multiple year long span between Hu Tao sleeping in coffins and even doing her first funeral ceremony so it's safe to assume that there would be other vampires out there as well, and not just the funeral directors
- however, in order for Hu Tao and the past directors to actually be able to do their job and guide people past the border, i think there'd have to be some difference between directors and other vampires - another reason for this is because well- they can die. So I think that past directors, when looking for successors find those who are already vampires, and in exchange for the role of funeral director, they have to forfeit their immortality(like as in they resume aging, but theyre otherwise still just as hard to kill as normal vampires)
-anyway now that thats out of the way- we run into trouble
- because vampires need blood- but drinking blood- creates more vampires- immortals, which is against everything that Hu Tao stands for- And she's not gonna just make someone a vampire and then immediately kill them after cuz thats almost as bad-
- ... but- she works in a funeral parlor... she doesn't exactly have any shortage of blood- Which is, im pretty sure how she could survive without going against the very principles that the parlor was founded on
- remember her whole thing about only telling people what they need to know? - I feel in the past, funeral directors would just forcibly take vampires to the border or something, like how Hu Tao does with Qiqi, because if they dont then they'll just- create more vampires which is a problem. - However, i feel like Hu Tao with all her weird "improvements" would actually view other vampires differently than Qiqi.. Qiqi was killed by another human, which is perfectly natural and she should have died. However, to be turned into a vampire is a result of the Parlor's negligence to prevent it, and until something happens that would have killed them naturally, theres no need to force them through the border. - instead, she hires them to work at the funeral parlor. It'd be a shame to let all that blood go to waste afterall. And this was they don't have to go around making her job harder... and if they refuse- well sometimes traditional methods have their value.
- However, this means they run out a lot faster, which is one of the other reasons why she's so enthusiastic about getting new clients, going door to door, offering discounts, selling services in bulk.
- also there's no way Baizhu doesn't know and he holds it over her head every time she tries to kill Qiqi. - keeps putting up wards against vampires to keep her from getting to her but Hu Tao keeps finding ways around it
-.... okay but for the sake of aesthetic- instead of the butterfly aesthetic that she has- it could likely be made into a bat and i just love that so much(although at the same time the butterfly is chinese symbolism so I'm not so sure about this one)
- canonically lingers around at night
- Also the fact the Wangsheng Funeral Parlor is associated with the Fatui- more blood source because Traveler be dropping those guys like flies
- also I just love the image of Hu Tao with a parasol to block out the sun
-
i wish i could do more but- I've run out of time, but like- thank you so much because this was really fun to look into and think up-
