Iida’s really laying it out here. He’s revealing just how important Izuku is to him. That Izuku is someone who he holds in the same esteem as Tensei, his brother and role model for what it means to be a hero.

And for Izuku, who doesn’t value himself because others have not seen him as having any value, this is so important for him to hear. Iida is one of the only characters to address Izuku directly about this character flaw before his rogue arc. Granted, Iida has no context for why Izuku is like this. He pays enough attention to Izuku he can understand the result but he has no idea how he ended up this way. I doubt he would have resorted to this method if he had a clue of Izuku’s backstory

Anyway, Iideku platonic or romantic is highly underrated
