abyssal hellion  || closed starter with @cbras
the seas were so turbulent that night. the moon had swelled, and it had sent the tides into labor, relentlessly crashing against molecule after molecule of water. billions of droplets flew into the spray, mixing with thickened foam and sweeping suigetsu deep into the underspan.
he would have drowned if not for the gills on his neck and the water on his skin providing him with enough oxygen to survive. he was made for the sea, but he couldn’t tame it. the sea tossed him as it wished, and right now he couldn’t sense mangetsu anywhere.
he would normally be nonchalant about that, but even a sea dragon recoiled from a storm - he was scared this time. this was the open ocean. who knew where he was by now? he was supposed to be on a mission with his brother but...things had gone errant. he had succeeded in leading the target into the abyss, but had fallen in himself, and now could not escape.
a violent swell threw the small boy head over heels through the spray and sent him thrashing into an undercurrent with such pressure that he felt his head spin. he inhaled, clawing at the surface where he wanted to swim, but he was too weak. the undercurrent tore at his legs, snatching him into a depth unknown.
he had never dealt with such strong pressure before, and blacked out as the ocean dragged him by the ankles.

“Police Capture Toronto Youth In Gun Battle,” The Globe and Mail. August 17, 1939. Page 02. --- James Hall Is Held at Harbor Beach, Mich., After Chase --- THEFT IS CHARGED --- Harbor Beach, Mich., Aug. 16 (CP). - Arrested after an exchange of gun fire in an oatfield near her, a youth who said he was James Hall, 16, of Toronto, was held tonight pending investigation of his dramatic story. The boy, who told police he had escaped from St. John’s Industrial School in Toronto, was captured after a break-in at the home of Robert Burley, where a watch and some money were taken.
Burley allegedly disturbed the youth in the midst of ransacking the house, but the thief escaped after showing a revolver, and a posse under Sheriff John A. Graham of Huron County was formed. Deputy Sheriff Roy English encountered the boy in the open country and fired over his head to force him to surrender. The fugitive returned the fire, but gave in before any one was hurt.
Hall allegedly told Sheriff Graham of a long list of petty crimes before and after his incarceration at Toronto. He said he had entered the United States illegally many times, once crawling across on the underspan of a bridge. Hall said he had been as far south as Louisiana and expressed a preference to be sent back there where he said a holdup charge faced him.
Hall said if he was returned to Canada he would probably be given a ten-year sentence in Kingston Penitentiary, but gave no reason why he should be treated so severely.
Sheriff Graham said if the boy’s story of escape from a Canadian institution was borne out he would be turned over to Federal authorities for deportation and not prosecuted on the assault, housebreaking and illegal possession of firearms counts he will otherwise face.
