Happy Halloween!

Who needs ghosts to scare you when you can have economic catastrophe and three prime ministers in three months?

Anyway, this month I have read 28 books and they are more spooky than usual and I should do that more often. Tis the spooky season after all!

Feel free to get in the spirit and share your faves as well!

The Vanishing Of Aveline Jones by Phil Hickes - I love this series so much and one of the best middle grade books I have read this year. I believe these books are a trilogy but if they are not, good. Spooky, atmospheric and a little scary this book sees Aveline meet some pretty bad Fae.

The Arctic Railway Assassin by M.J. Leonard and Sam Sedgman - This series is so good. The story of Hal and his Uncpe Nate as they travel on trains solving mysteries this one sees them heading to Norway where their friend has won a Nobel Prize and is now being hunted by assassin and a very vood story ensues. I hope this series continues!

The Moorland Cottage by Elizabeth Gaskell - A classic I had not heard of before this story was captivating and though around 200 years old relateable still. The story of a young woman who has to choose between her own life and her family makes for a story with incredible emotion.

How To Be Ace by Rebecca Burgess - a fantastic graphic novel that shares tbe story of Rebecca as she figures out who she is. I learnt so much from this book and the art style really brings it to life.

UNC's AACSB-Accredited Online MBA: A Closer Look at Curriculum, Admissions, and Student Experience

This is my comprehensive review of University of North Carolina's 100% Online MBA program from admission to curriculum, classes, projects, tuition and experience with faculty and staff. 

Why I Chose UNCP?

 When choosing an MBA program there are few things that one looks for such as, delivery method, school accreditation, class schedule and tuition. When I was searching for a graduate school in North Carolina, I came across UNC Wilmington 's MBA program on their website and this is what I saw:

Just by looking at the three webpages of these Universities, I liked UNCP better because the cost of the program was listed on the MBA web page along with the start dates. As an adult student with family, tuition is the first factor I looked at when making the decision. A student who has taken their foundational courses can finish the program under $11,000 which is the best price you can get in NC for NC residents.

Let’s take a quick look at the UN documentation for the next UK submission to the Universal Periodic Review.

They’ve published three documents: a report submitted by the UK, a compilation of information by the UN Human Rights Office, and a summary of the various submissions by civil society organisations.

Alongside this they’ve published the original submissions.

Let’s take a look…

1. The National Report

The UK says it is committed to respecting human rights and upholding its international human rights commitments. But…

… the UK doesn’t plan to ratify the United Nations Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance (UNCPPED) or the United Nations Convention on the Protection of the Rights of All Migrant Workers and Members of Their Families (UNCRMW). Because UK domestic law already protects these groups, apparently.

Moving on, the UK has ratified the Istanbul Convention. It highlights that Scotland plans to incorporate the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child into domestic law.

Paragraph 10 is interesting as it includes commentary on the proposed Bill of Rights, which will, ahem, “continue to give further effect into UK law the rights contained in the European Convention on Human Rights (ECHR), with a remedy for a breach of a Convention right available in UK courts.”

It also suggests there’ll be a Bill of Rights for Northern Ireland. But “Consensus, including between the Northern Ireland parties, is needed before any agreement can be reached on what such a Bill of Rights should include.”

The report next goes on to look at specific issues and characteristics. On non-discrimination against LGBT people in particular, the UK highlights the introduction of equal marriage. It also highlights gender recognition reform in Scotland. And Scotland’s plan to ban conversion therapy.

Before we leave this report, I note that the UK also says it supports a recommendation from the previous UPR, by Spain, to “dedicate more resources to fight against negative stereotypes in the media, against the most affected minority groups (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex persons, Gypsies, Muslims, refugees and persons granted asylum).”
