‘You’re a Mom to me’ prompt:
In honor of Mother’s Day, give me a story where Miss Hardbroom sits at the breakfast table as students come up and give all the other female teachers (Miss Cackle, Miss Drill, even Miss Bat) Mother’s Day presents and cards because those ladies are moms, grandmas, and aunts without meaning to be.
Hecate sitting idly and trying to act unaffected as Enid gives Miss Drill something she bought her and Maud gives Miss Cackle a cardigan she knitted.
Hecate who ignores the looks she can feel the other teachers exchanging and the small smiles of pity that Ada shoots her way.
Then, just as she’s about to get up and leave, she feels arms wrap around her shoulders and turns her head to see a smiling Millie.
A Millie who is holding a package in her hand and who leans her head against Hecate’s as she whispers to her why she feels the need to honor her on Mother’s Day.
With a small amount of prompting Hecate opens her gift while Millie clings to her neck. It’s a while before Hecate can react and she gently reaches up and places a hand on Millie’s arm, giving it a squeeze and leaning her head on top of Millie’s.
The other girls have already left the hall by the time Miss Cackle clears her throat. She produces a camera and Hecate looks at her bewildered before Miss Cackle explains that every mother deserves a picture with their child on their first Mother’s Day at least.
From there, what happens is up to you 🙂❤️

Sign Up Is Open For The 2018 Third Wave Wichteln
Third Wave Wichteln is back for another year of international coffee exchanging. Now in its sixth year, the Wichteln is a transcontinental specialty coffee Secret Santa, and registration is now open!
Third Wave Wichteln works like any holiday gift exchange, just on a much, much larger scale; last year’s saw over 2,000 people from 62 countries participate according to one of TWW’s founders Markus Reuter. Everyone who wants to participate puts their name in a hat—the hat being an online submission form in this case—and then those participants draw a name from the hat and that’s the person they need to buy a gift for. In this case, the name is assigned to you by TWW to make sure that everyone is receiving coffee from a different country than their own.
via Third Wave Wichteln
The gift must be specialty coffee and meet a specific criteria: no more than five days off roast at the time of shipment, no espresso roasts (filter only), no decaf, whole bean, and single origin. Then you just ship the coffee and wait for yours to come in the mail!
It’s just that easy. But also it’s not. Or is it? As should probably be expected from an international gifting program that relies on the honor system and fully functioning bureaucracies, there are catches.
For one, shipping can be expensive, often comprising more of the total cost than the coffee itself. In the United States, shipping a package internationally can cost roughly between $10-$50 depending on its destination. I spent somewhere around $30 to ship coffee to the Czech Republic in 2016.
The team at Third Wave Wichteln provides participants with information to ease shipping issues:
1. Use customs form CN22 2. Label the package as a gift 3. Specify “whole roasted coffee beans” 4. According to Reuter, “The shipping doesn’t have to be Express. Normal DHL or Fedex is fine. And sometimes it’s worth checking if there is a cheaper way to send just an envelope instead of a package.”
After you’re paired up with a mystery recipient and you’ve sent your package, the team at TWW doesn’t provide additional support to assist in tracking the package destined for you. It might show up, show up late, or not at all. For what its worth, I’ve always received my coffee. Sometimes it didn’t show up until February and ripped open by customs but ultimately none worse for the wear.
James Hoffmann, World Barista Champion, author, co-owner of Square Mile Coffee, and frequent TWW participant, tells Sprudge of his experience:
I’ve really enjoyed taking part in Third Wave Wichteln, since its inception. Maybe I’ve just been lucky, but I’ve received coffee from a roaster new to me every time and it’s been fun, as a roaster, to send through a few bonus bits to whoever has been my recipient too. I look forward to it every year!
It’s all part of the gift-giving gamble. Caveat emptor. I’ll be back for a fourth year because the coffees I get are always interesting. From a specialty-grade Robusta grown in India and roasted in Poland to a lovely washed Colombian coffee roasted in merry old England, I’ve yet to be disappointed by the coffee I received… eventually.
Enrollment for the 2018 Third Wave Wichteln is open until Friday, December 7th and sign up can be done here. For more information, visit their official website. And while you wait for your coffee, join the discussion going on over at the Third Wave Wichteln Facebook group. Happy gifting!

The Worst Witch December Events
Tumblr media
Well met, everyone!
It’s that time again where the festive holiday-themed fics are plentiful, and we all come together to collectively ignore canon in favour of being kinder to our favourites. Many of you are probably wondering if anyone’s organising any fun little Worst Witch fandom events, and the answer is yes! Over on the TWW Discord we've come up with two challenges that can be attempted by themselves, or combined - a gift exchange you can sign up for on AO3 via this link, and a December holiday-flavoured prompts list.
Gift Exchange
For the gift exchange, everyone will be secretly assigned a person to write a fic or make art for, matched according to your shared ships. There’s a simple form where you can provide details for what you’re offering as a gift and what you’d like to receive. Be sure to provide as much detail as possible and specify whether you are requesting or offering fic/art, what you are willing to create, and what you’d prefer to receive. For example, “I will write/draw fluff, but will not write/draw anything nsfw”.
When you submit, all fics will be invisible until the final submission date, when they will be revealed anonymously. Try to guess which fandom writer you received! The authors will be revealed on the 25th December.
Fics must be a minimum of 1,000 words (there is no maximum), and art (while subjective) must be of decent image size and quality. Your work must be submitted to the collection on AO3 (linked on this post). To give and receive gifts, you must have an AO3 account. Ships must involve consenting adults only. If you are submitting to the December Prompts, do not add your gift fic/art to that collection until after the authors have been revealed. No AI art or fic is permitted.
While this is for fun, please be serious about having something (relevant to the request given, of course) to submit. It would not be fair for someone to miss out after having put in a lot of hard work and effort on their own submission.
Due dates are as follows:
Sign up is open until 20th November 2023.
Completed work submission is 18th December 2023.
Authors are revealed on the 25th December 2023.
Full guidelines are up on the collection. Remember to sign up this week before it's too late!
Prompts List
There is a separate collection just for prompts! You can freely submit your works here to the AO3 Collection as and when you like.
The images below contain a variety of prompts that may be interpreted in any way you choose. How you complete those prompts is entirely up to you - whether it’s doing an entire day’s worth of prompts together, mixing and matching prompts from different days, choosing one prompt from each day, or picking a few that you like and working with them.
Use the hashtag "#tww december prompts" when linking your AO3 works so we can find and share them!

Many, many thanks to @hydr0phius for helping set this up, and all the lovely folks on the discord for providing inspiration!
