wip game
tis the damn season
@whathefawkes It is probably not a shocker that this wip is inspired by Taylor Swift’s “tis the damn season.” It’s a Muggle AU idea I came up for @fightfortherightsofhouseelves ‘s hinnychristmasfest that I never wrote.
Ginny, a professional football player who is going through a rough time in her career, is coming home for the holidays, and she’s taken aback when she sees Harry at King’s Crossing. It’s supposed to be tinged with “what could have been” had they gotten together before she set off to become a professional athlete.
Who knows if I’ll ever write it, but it would be very wistful, angsty, soft, and with a happy ending because they deserve one.
Here’s the only thing I’ve written, though I have a scene in the car in my mind.
Through the thick steam from the train, she saw him. He was taller, still lanky despite having filled out. He cut a dashing figure in his winter coat, his hands shoved in his pockets. If she recalled from her last letter from Hermione, he was currently training to join Scotland Yard, just like he had always wanted.
“Hey,” Ginny said, hoping she didn’t sound as breathless as she thought.
“Hey,” Harry said. He stood there, his hands still in his pockets, his face tinged pink from the cold, a sheepish smile on his face. It seemed so familiar, it made her chest squeeze with nostalgia. “Something came up, and Ron couldn’t make it. I hope you don’t mind.”
Harry Librarian
@twentysevensummers Hahaha, god, I really wish this story would write itself so I could read it (and not put in the work). This is the Muggle!Harry librarian story and witch!Ginny story.
Harry is working as a part-time librarian to pay for his meager apartment and student debt, and there’s this redhead who keeps visiting the library that he can’t get out of his head. Fresh out of Hogwarts, Ginny is working for her dad in the Misuse of Muggle Artefacts Office after a curse during the war prevented her from trying to be a professional Quidditch player. Can they bring a little bit of magic into each other’s lives?
Shite, shite, shite.
Harry clutched at his book bag as he dashed through the street. He narrowly dodged a woman who gasped indignantly.
“Sorry!” He shot over his shoulder but kept going.
His damn alarm had, once again, failed him. Well, okay, really maybe it was his fault for accidentally setting it to 7 PM instead of 7 AM, but he’d stayed up until 2 AM studying for his afternoon exam. So could he really be blamed for a mistake that really anyone could make?
And he hadn’t really had time to grab that scone, but he also hadn’t been prepared to handle another four-hour shift on an empty stomach. It reminded him too much of the Dursley’s.
Harry turned the corner and stomped right into a puddle. Cold water sprayed up his right side.
Seriously?
He stared up at the ivory steps that would not enjoy being marred by his messy attire. A small part of him contemplated throwing in the towel and calling in sick. Catch a few more precious moments of sleep.
Fuck, he really needed this job.
With a heavy heart and heavier sigh, Harry made his way up the library steps. At the entrance, he did his best to wipe his trainers clean before swinging through to behind the staff counter. He glanced about as he set his things behind the reference desk. Maybe no one had noticed.
“Late again, Potter.”
Of course not. When did he ever have any luck?
His lips pressed hard together before Harry plastered a smile on his face.
I can’t decide if Snape or Madam Piece is his boss, hahaha.
Anyway, this was supposed to be a fun and funny story with plenty of hijinks as Ginny tries to navigate a relationship with a Muggle, but of course my brain went ahead and added plot and character development so this has been just...bah. Also I’ve rewritten the beginning more than once and it hasn’t hit the sweet spot for me yet, so what I shared may be nixed.
Let me know if you have any other wip asks!
