Why am I so in love with Jiujitsu? I think that after twenty something years of training, I finally figured it out. Police work isn't easy in a big city, I have seen a lot of the deaths, accidents and shootings etc, and because of it, it caused me to suffer from depression, quite possibly PTSD. I also went through a bad divorce and that was a horrible time in my life. I never went to see anyone for help, instead I started to train even more! I found that by training, getting submitted, submitting others, sweating, the feeling of winning and losing on the mats is therapy. The endorphins released during a physical training session help rid the mind of those bad moods of thought and help you feel better! That is why when I would go train after a long day of police work, Jiujitsu was the only thing that balanced me back to a level of calmness. When I first started Jiujitsu, I like everyone else, saw it as just a self defense. As I continued to train however, it went from just being a self defense, to a positive lifestyle, a place where I could put aside my moods and feelings and just let everything go, a place of therapy, a place where you learn to overcome your fears and learn to become comfortable where you where once uncomfortable.
