Hikinghimalayas.com is an ethically governed and environmentally aware Trekking & Adventure Tour Operator. The company exists to promote and share with others the diverse geographical beauty as well as the cultural wealth of our homeland, Nepal, as well as that of some of our neighbours, such as Tibet and Bhutan. Predominantly, it is the mighty Himalayan ranges that attract visitors from all over the world to Nepal. Upon arrival, guests to our country are then also captivated by the interplay of the majestic mountainous landscapes with the overriding hospitality of the Nepali people. Our rich spiritual life and our many vibrantly joyous customs are born of the melding of the Hindu and Buddhist cultures which have co existed here side by side for centuries. This adds a mystical dimension to most travellers’ experiences in Nepal. It is this interplay of magnificent landscapes, of friendly and welcoming people from many different ethnic backgrounds and the complex, beautiful overlay of religious rites and cultural practices that make a sojourn in Nepal a life – enhancing, sometimes even life changing, experience for all.
Our company is proud to be able to show overseas visitors all facets of our beautiful land, through stunning mountain treks, at both lower and higher altitudes, depending on our guests’ interests and their physical capacities, to wild life safaris in the Terai, on the plains or rafting on mighty rivers.
We stand proud knowing we act at all times as an ethical and compassionate employer of local staff and our company is also involved with local conservation organisations and environmental agencies in order to preserve the natural wonders with which Nepal has been blessed.

Treks in Nepal are best during Autumn and Spring. Autumn Season starts mid-September and lasts up to November. The Spring Season (March-May) is the best season for trekking in Nepal. The clear weather, pleasantly warm temperature, and the cool breeze is the perfect combination for trekking. The other seasons (Monsoon and Winter) aren't suitable for better experiences. The cost of Trekking in Nepal depends on the type and nature of the trek.

The Panch Pokhari (Five Ponds) Path is a new trekking area in Nepal. Panch Pokhari (4,100 m) is located northeast of Kathmandu at the base of the Jugal Himal. The period from March to May is the best time for trek to Panch Pokhari. This place has cultural, religious, and ecological importance. An important festival, the Janai Purnima festival, is held here every year in August, when Brahmin castes come here for the ritual changing of the sacred thread (janai) they wear around their bodies. Thus, the five ponds (Panch Pokhari) are regarded as sacred ponds. Situated as they are at the base of the Jugal Himal, the ecology is pretty diverse and of considerable interest. The trek takes you through Sherpa and Tamang villages, so it’s something of a Nepal cultural trek, as well. #panch_pokhari #five_lakes #trekking_in_nepal #visitnepal2020 #nepal8thwonder #trekking https://www.instagram.com/p/B6PSzMEAabu/?igshid=mv5bvamrvcb5

Tips to Avoid Altitude Sickness in Everest Trek | Recognize, Treat and Prevent AMS
Everest base camp trek, being one of the most exciting and thrilling destinations many travelers from around the world trek to EBC and some of them get Altitude sickness which makes them unable to complete the trek. So, its always better to get an idea on how to prevent altitude sickness while you are hiking at higher altitude.
Tumblr media
In this article, we will be providing the travelers who are wandering to trek EBC and want to know more about the altitude sickness. Its always better to get information about the destination and the other stuff to make your trip more organized and thrilling.
Know About Altitude Sickness:
If you are traveling to a destination which is located at high altitude it is best if you do your research on what is altitude sickness and what are its symptoms? Why is it dangerous? Why do you get Altitude sickness? And more.
After reading and knowing about the altitude sickness you will definitely be able to at least minimize the symptoms and effects.
Climb Slowly:
Tumblr media
Your body needs about two to three days of slowly going higher to adjust to the changes. Avoid flying or driving directly to high altitudes. Instead, go up higher each day, stop to rest, and continue the next day. If you must fly or drive, pick a lower altitude to stay at for 24 hours before going all the way up.
When traveling on foot, plan your trip up with stopping points at lower elevations before reaching your destination. Try to travel no more than 1,000 feet each day and plan a rest day for every 3,000 feet you go higher.
Consume Carbohydrate:
Tumblr media
Carbohydrate provides the number of calories you would require while traveling in High Altitude. So, its very good if you are consuming the foods that provide carbohydrate and other nutrients. Traveling at high altitude means you need much more calories than hiking in lower landscape or altitude. You need to keep in mind to consume the foods with high carbohydrate rate for more calories you need during your high-altitude trekking. According to many health experts, you need to take the right type of carbs before trekking like porridge/dalia or oats.
Avoid alcohol and Caffeine:
Tumblr media
Alcohol, cigarettes, caffeine, and medication like sleeping pills are the factor which boosts the chances of getting the altitude sickness. If you are traveling at a higher altitude you should minimize consumption of alcohol, cigarettes, and medications as the consumption of these things at high altitude will increase the possibility of dehydration. You can drink and smoke as much after you complete your trek and return at a lower altitude. And if you plan to drink and smoke you need more acclimatization i.e. around 48 hours. And if you have a short time for your trek its best not to consume any alcohol or medications.
Drink A lot of Water:
Tumblr media
Drinking water is key to avoid altitude sickness at higher altitude. Air at higher altitude is then compared at a lower altitude which means you will get less oxygen while breathing so if your intake water you can get enough oxygen for your body. Staying hydrated is something you need to keep in mind during your trek in higher altitude.
Avoid Longer and Higher Climbs:
Most of the itinerary we design prioritizes the health of our clients. So, the climbs are not longer and higher. But if you still feel you can’t climb higher you need to consult with the guide you are with to manage the accommodation for the night and to take rest. Gaining a lot of altitudes means you are using too much of your energy which means your oxygen depletion rate on your body is higher and the air in higher altitude has lower oxygen rate which increases the chance of getting altitude sickness. So, if you must gain more than the 500m altitude you must take a break on the trail so that you can adjust with the air around you.
Avoid Strenuous Exercising:
Tumblr media
At higher altitude its best if you avoid strenuous exercises which exhaust you. It is best to keep your body at rest after a certain time of hiking. You need to preserve your calories for your hike so it's better not to exhaust yourself with strenuous excursing.
Acclimatization:
Tumblr media
While trekking in high altitude you must consider taking enough rest even it may delay the itinerary. Never rush while gaining altitude, air at high altitude is thin this may cause heavy breathing and it hurts while breathing heavily due to lack of air in your lungs. The more you rush there is more chance you will be affected by altitude sickness.
Avoid Meat consumption:
Tumblr media
If you are to eat unhygienic meat it may degrade your health condition increases the chances of getting the altitude sickness. So, during Everest base camp trek it is best if you avoid meat consumption so that you could prevent yourself from getting altitude sickness. The meat available here is not hygienic and may be harmful to consume. The meat is basically transported from the lower elevation on the plane due to which the meat available here is at least 2 to 3 days old. Thus, keeping in mind to eat the fresh and hygienic food you need to avoid meat.
Supplement Oxygen:
Tumblr media
Supplement oxygen is mainly carried by climbers who are doing mountain expedition and such to help them get enough oxygen at higher altitude. EBC trek normally is considered the easier trek and the hike is not long and the altitude you will gain is reasonable and quite easy. But if you are still unsure about the trail and your health condition you should probably carry supplement oxygen for yourself. It can help you retain the oxygen level in your body at a higher altitude and prevents from altitude sickness. It is not necessarily important to carry supplement oxygen while trekking to EBC. It is always great to have extra protection for yourself.
If you are to follow these guides you will be able to enjoy your trip to EBC to the fullest. If you want to know more about the Everest base camp trek itinerary, and other information about the trails, food guide, and Everest Base camp trek guide you can check our blog page.
Garlic Breath:
Tumblr media
Garlic and Cloves are famous Nepali remedies to avoid the ills done by altitude sickness. Garlic thins the blood and enhances blood flow and cloves help the body to be more efficient oxygen.
Adequate consumption of these two herbs will help you avoid the altitude sickness.
If the symptoms of the altitude sickness continue and worsen, then it is best to go to a lower altitude and seek medical help.
