FAAN announces another power outage at Lagos International Airport
Tumblr media
The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, on Friday announced another power interruption at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, MMIA. FAAN made the announcement to avoid the controversy that followed the three-minute power outage that occurred at the International Airport about one week ago. The spokesman of FAAN, Obiageli Orah, said the latest outage would only last for a few minutes. Posting on their website, the agency said they were testing their power equipment to ensure it functions properly, hence the power outage. The message said: “To serve you better, we’re testing our power equipment at Murtala Muhammed International Airport today. This means the power will be off for a short time this afternoon.” Recall that travellers had berated President Bola Tinubu’s administration over a power outage at the International Airport. Planning a journey from Dakar, Senegal, to Lagos, Nigeria, opens a world of vibrant culture, bustling markets, and breathtaking landscapes. Whether you're traveling for business or pleasure, finding the right flight tickets is crucial for a smooth and enjoyable trip. Let's explore the options and tips to help you navigate the skies between these two dynamic West African cities.
Tumblr media
Early Booking Advantage: Securing your flight tickets well in advance can often lead to significant cost savings. Airlines frequently offer lower fares for travelers who book their tickets early, allowing you to take advantage of better deals and avoid last-minute price hikes.
Flexible Travel Dates: Flexibility with your travel dates can be a game-changer when it comes to finding affordable flight tickets. Consider adjusting your departure and return dates to explore different pricing options. Mid-week flights tend to be cheaper compared to weekends, so keep this in mind while planning your itinerary.
Compare Prices Across Airlines: With numerous airlines Flight Tickets from Lagos To Dakar, it's essential to compare prices across different carriers. Online travel agencies and flight comparison websites can be valuable tools in finding the best deals. Remember to check for any additional fees or charges that may apply to ensure you're getting the most accurate price comparison.
Opt for Layovers: While direct flights offer convenience, they often come with a premium price tag. Choosing flights with layovers can sometimes result in considerable savings. Additionally, layovers provide an opportunity to explore other destinations briefly, adding an adventurous twist to your journey.
Utilize Frequent Flyer Programs: If you're a frequent traveler, enrolling in airline loyalty programs can yield rewards and benefits. Accumulating miles through these programs can earn you discounts, free upgrades, or even complimentary flights in the future. Be sure to sign up for these programs and maximize your earning potential with each flight.
Keep an Eye Out for Promotions: Airlines regularly launch promotions and special deals on flight tickets. Subscribe to airline newsletters or follow them on social media platforms to stay informed about these offers. Taking advantage of flash sales or promotional codes can result in substantial savings on your airfare.
Consider Alternative Airports: In some cases, flying into nearby airports instead of your destination airport can lead to cheaper fares. Explore the possibility of landing in neighboring cities and arranging alternative transportation to reach your final destination. This strategy may require some additional planning but can offer significant cost savings, especially during peak travel seasons.
Book Round-Trip Tickets: Booking your outbound and return flights together as a round-trip ticket can often be more economical than purchasing them separately. Airlines may offer discounted fares for round-trip bookings, making it a cost-effective option for travelers planning a complete journey.
By employing these tips and strategies, you can streamline the process of booking flight tickets from Dakar to Lagos and make the most of your travel budget. Whether you're embarking on a business trip or a leisurely adventure, securing affordable airfare ensures a seamless and enjoyable travel experience between these two vibrant African cities.

NDLEA Seizes 14.5 Tons Of ‘Ghanaian Loud’ Linked to wanted Lagos Drug Baron
Tumblr media
Operatives from various specialized units of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have successfully intercepted significant shipments of Cocaine and Colorado, a potent strain of cannabis. The illicit drugs were concealed within containerized household items and vehicles imported from Durban, South Africa, and Canada at the Tincan Seaport in Lagos. Coordinated intelligence efforts and months of tracking by three special NDLEA units led to the seizure of these illicit substances, along with arms, ammunition, and various military effects. Joint examinations by NDLEA officers, Customs Service, and other security agencies took place between Thursday, January 18, and Friday, January 19, 2024. The deployment of NDLEA's sniffer dogs aided in identifying locations and bags used to hide the illicit items. The seized items included 1,274 parcels of Cocaine and Colorado weighing 884.09 kilograms, four pistols, 197 rounds of 9mm ammunition, 49 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, 275 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, 14 rounds of 9mm ammunition, and various military personnel effects. While one shipment of Colorado (32.5kg) arrived in used vehicles from Canada, the rest were found in two containers from Durban, South Africa. A suspect linked to one of the containers, Akara Chibugo, was tracked and arrested. Additionally, two vigilant freight agents and a traveler prevented two drug trafficking operations at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos. The agents, contacted to send a consignment of 1kg of cannabis concealed in Milo beverage tins to Turkey, chose to submit the shipment to NDLEA checks, leading to the discovery of the psychoactive substance. In a similar event, NDLEA operatives arrested Okosun Paul Punitt, the consignee of a shipment of tramadol concealed in a bottle of dietary supplements. The staff of Pathfinder International Ltd, Ajuzieogu Mac-Elvis Ugochukwu, attempted to send the consignment to Accra, Ghana, but a vigilant passenger suspected illicit substances, leading to further investigation and the arrest of Okosun. In Kano, NDLEA seized 5,653,000 pills of tramadol 250mg and exol-5 from three suspects. Two were arrested with 5,404,000 pills of tramadol 250mg, while another was nabbed with 249,000 tablets of exol-5. In Lagos, Ali Abubakar and Murtala Sani were arrested with 110kg of cannabis sativa, and 69kg of the same substance was recovered from the hideout of a fleeing suspect in Akerele, Surulere. A raid operation in Abuja led to the recovery of 2,800 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup, with the suspected owner, Jideofor Sochima, still at large. In Taraba, NDLEA seized 100,510 pills of opioids from a suspect, Ike Emmanuel. In Abia state, a 60-year-old Joseph Isiguzoro, along with Emmanuel Eugene and Malachi Ndu, were arrested with 34,200 pills of opioids. Isiguzoro was also found with a monetary exhibit totaling N2,885,045. The NDLEA's War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign continued with sensitization lectures at various institutions, including the Federal University of Technology in Akwa Ibom, Federal Government College in Lagos, Edusoko University in Niger state, and Community Secondary School in Kano state. Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), commended the officers and men across various commands for their efforts in the arrests and seizures. He urged them to remain focused and resolute in achieving the agency's goal of combating substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking in Nigeria, emphasizing the importance of collaboration with other law enforcement agencies and stakeholders. By • Olalekan Fagbade JUST IN: Federal Govt begins investigation as aircraft lands in Asaba instead of Abuja The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has decided to probe why the United Nigeria flight NUA 0506 landed in Asaba instead of Abuja, where many Nigerians had expected it to touch down. According to The Nation, the airline management had on Sunday said its Lagos-Abuja flight was diverted to Asaba, Delta State capital, due to poor weather conditions. The flight, NUA 0504, took off on Sunday from the Muritala Muhammed International Airport, Terminal 2, and was headed for Abuja. United Nigeria Airlines also confirmed the incident. In a statement on Sunday evening, the airline’s spokesperson, Uchegbu Achilleus-Chud, explained that the affected aircraft, NUA 0504, was “temporarily diverted to Asaba International Airport due to poor destination weather.” Achilleus-Chud said: “A wrong announcement” by the cabin crew upon landing at Asaba was what created confusion among passengers. “At all material time, the pilot of the aircraft was aware of the temporary diversion and was properly briefed,” he said. But a statement signed by Captain Musa Nuhu noted that an investigation has commenced into the situation. The agency has also suspended all the wet-leased aircraft in the operations of United Nigeria Airlines (UNA). The NCAA’s decision has been communicated to the airline via a letter on Monday. The statement partly reads: “However, preliminary steps have been taken pending conclusions of ongoing investigation. “The Authority wishes to reassure the travelling public that it will leave no stone unturned as it has always done in the past to ensure the continued safety of the aviation industry.”

Aviation Minister Exposes N1 Billion Expenditure by FAAN Officials in 2023
The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has expressed concern over the excessive spending by Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) officials in the past year. Keyamo revealed that an alarming sum of approximately N1 billion was disbursed on air tickets and Duty Tour Allowance (DTA) by FAAN staff during their frequent travels between Abuja and Lagos in 2023. This revelation has been cited as a primary reason behind the decision to relocate FAAN's headquarters from Abuja back to Lagos. Keyamo, who earlier highlighted the extensive consultation process leading to the relocation decision, shed light on the substantial expenses incurred by FAAN. According to him, principal officers engaged in daily commutes between Lagos and Abuja, resulting in a staggering N493,678,620.37 spent on DTA and N451,058,950.09 on air tickets. The cumulative effect amounted to nearly N1 billion in just one year. Addressing concerns about FAAN's operational dynamics, Keyamo emphasized the inadequate accommodation situation for support staff and subordinate departments stationed in Lagos, despite directors being based in Abuja. This imbalance led to the necessity of constant travel for meetings and decision-making processes, contributing to the high travel-related expenditures. The minister underscored FAAN's customer-centric nature, emphasizing the significance of regular staff meetings in facilitating decision-making. The absence of digitization within FAAN further exacerbates the situation, compelling staff to engage in frequent travel for routine tasks that could be streamlined with modern workflow systems. Highlighting the historical context, Keyamo noted that FAAN's headquarters had originally been in Lagos until the directive by the former Aviation Minister, Hadi Sirika, to relocate it to Abuja in 2020. The recent decision to revert to Lagos aims to optimize operational efficiency and address the financial strain associated with excessive travel costs. In response to claims regarding the newly appointed Managing Director, Kabir Yusuf Muhammed, allegedly spending over N200 million on a new official vehicle, FAAN has dismissed these allegations. The agency refuted reports suggesting that Muhammad's vehicle acquisition took precedence over the urgent need for patrol vehicles at airports amid rising security threats. Muhammad assumed the role of MD in May 2023 following the removal of the former MD, Captain Rabiu Yadudu, and five agency directors by President Muhammadu Buhari. As FAAN grapples with financial scrutiny and relocation decisions, the aviation sector in Nigeria awaits further developments in its quest for operational efficiency and fiscal responsibility. Hiking - South Tyrol (Alto Adige) - Wandern - Südtirol

When I was at school, we went on two class trips to "South Tyrol" - or "Alto Adige" as they say in Italian (South Tyrol belongs to Italy since the end of WW I - but they still speak German there). The enthusiasm for hiking was awakened during those two school trips - that's why my best friend and I went on two more hiking trips there during our civil, respectively military service time at the end of the 80ties.
These two trips were my first self-organized trips - so no trips where a travel agency does everything for you. The advantage of a self-organized trip is that you have to deal more with the destination and you can determine the pace and intensity of the experience. You often take more with you from such trips than with “off-the-shelf trips”.
In addition to the wonderful mountain landscape of the southern Alps with the beginning Mediterranean climate influence, the sporty effect of „hiking“ was in the foreground. The following tours were the highlights of the trips:
Braies Valley/Croda del Becco: hike from Lake Braies (1494m) to the Croda del Becco (2810m).
Lago di Landro/Monte Piano: hike from Lago di Landro (1406m) to the Monte Piano (2395m). The Monte Piano is kind of open-air museum as it still shows the bunkers and trenches from the First World War (WW I), which the Austrians and the Italians have driven into the rock.
Pordoi Pass/Sass Pordoi/Piz Boe (Sella Group): hike from the valley station of the Pordoi Pass (2239m) though the Pordoi Notch onto the Sass Pordoi (2950m) - and from there to the Piz Boe (3152m). We took the cable car back down to the valley station from the Sass Pordoi.
Val Gardena (Ortisei)/Sasso Lungo Notch: circular hike from Ortisei (1230m) through the Sasso Lungo Notch (2685m). In August there was still snow on the Sasso Lungo Notch - which resulted in somewhat bizarre images that suggested "winter" rather than "summer". Rain clouds have been accumulated on the back of the Sasso Lungo (on the way back to Ortisei), which then rained down on us for around 2 hours. You should never underestimate how quickly the weather can change in the mountains where you then need rainwear urgently.
Alpe di Siusi/Sciliar: Hike over the Alpe di Siusi (approx. 1600 m, largest high pasture in the Alps) to the Mount Sciliar (2563m).
During our time there, we also made short trips to Venice (2x), Verona and Lake Garda.
At the time, Eros Ramazzotti's music album "In Certi Momenti" was popular - and as soon as my friend and I crossed the Italian border, of course the album was playing in the car. I like the very melodious Italian language - and somehow the music and lyrics also fit the situation. This year (2023) my wife and I went to the Tuscany and we also made a quick detour to the places my friend and I had visited at the time. Of course, Eros Ramazzotti aboard again.
-

By • Olalekan Fagbade Saudi visa cancellation: Nigerian Govt reveals actions bring taken to adress diplomatic row The Federal Government on Tuesday urged all affected passengers of Air Peace whose visas were cancelled and deported from Saudi Arabia to remain calm and that investigation into the “unfortunate” incident has been launched. This is contained in a statement by Francisca Omayuli, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. According to Omayuli, reports received from the Nigerian Consulate in Jeddah indicated that Air Peace Flight No. P4-752 transported 264 passengers from the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos and the Aminu Kano International Airport and landed at the King Abdul-Aziz International Airport – Hajj Terminal Jeddah on Nov. 13. She said in the statement that on arrival at the Hajj Terminal, the Saudi immigration authorities informed the passengers that their visas had been cancelled and 177 passengers had to be evacuated on the same flight back to Nigeria. No fewer than 87 of the passengers were cleared by immigration and allowed entry into Jeddah, she added. Omayuli explained that the Saudi authorities are yet to give reasons for the cancellation of the visas and the outright ban imposed on 18 of the passengers from Saudi Arabia for various offences they committed in the past. “”Notwithstanding the fact that it is the prerogative of a sovereign nation to determine who is permitted entry into its territory, Nigeria and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia are traditional and strategic partners, who are willing to guard against recurrence of this unfortunate incident. “”In this regard, investigation is ongoing in both Nigeria and Saudi Arabia. “The affected passengers are therefore, implored to keep calm, while the matter is being resolved,” the statement quoted Omayuli as saying. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the House of Representatives had condemned the cancellation of the passengers’ visas, describing the act as embarrassing. They urged the Federal Government to, as a matter of urgency, take the necessary diplomatic steps to protect Nigeria’s image and ensure the full implementation of the Bilateral Air Service Agreement (BASA). The lawmakers also called for the protection of Nigerian national carriers flying to Saudi Arabia and protect the Nigerian travelling public. They also mandated the House Committee on Foreign Affairs and that of Interior and Pilgrims Affairs to launch an enquiry into the immediate and remote circumstances surrounding the cancellation of the visas and report back within two weeks.
