#guess what i have a seminar on later #this isn’t me saying This text has uncomfortable elements it’s evil etc etc etc obviously i’m not an idiot. we read these things for good #reason it was just hard going 😭 it’s pretty rough to a modern eye that doesn’t belong to a cisgender 1700s man #And you have to engage with these things. You can’t duck your eyes just because it upsets you. obviously #i just think it’s a bit of a weird text to jump straight into after tristram fucking shandy #also not really sure what we were meant to do if the text properly distressed us. not go to the lectures? #if my seminar tutor who is lovely but clearly a bit insane in that wonderful way everyone who studies english is #asks why i only read volume one i will tell her very honestly i couldn’t stomach anymore.
