who's nesta? once a mortal woman born to a family of wealthy means, nesta grew up with two sisters, feyre and elain. when their family lost all their money and their mother passed away, the girls were left with a father who wouldn't take care of them and the loss of a life they loved so dearly. hurt and grieving, nesta grew closer to her sister elain, who she could take care of and protect. feyre, meanwhile, would attempt to provide for the family by hunting and trading for food and means to keep their home warm, though this often was unsuccessful.

when feyre is stolen by a monster, nesta attempts to rescue her but cannot pass into the fae realm where her sister is held captive. having grown up a human, nesta had learned to fear and hate the fae. so when nesta learns that feyre has fallen in love with one and in fact been made into one as well, she is outraged and resentful. this is especially apparent as nesta and her sisters are thrown deep into the middle of a brutal magical war.

this outrage will only grow. when elain and nesta are captured themselves by a fae king, they are both thrown into a magical artifact, the cauldron, and turned into high fae. this is devastating to nesta, who has yet to accept that her fear and hatred of fae is ignorant and wrong. despite this, it is realized that nesta is connected to the cauldron now and has magical abilities. amidst all this, nesta begins training though she smothers her magic as best as she can.

the war comes to an end when nesta and her sister elain murder the fae king who had them made into fae. however, this victory is short-lived for nesta who will continue to suffer from severe ptsd, claustrophobia, and fear of her own abilities. as a result, she turns to alcohol and other illicit activities, and pulls away from her sisters entirely, including elain who she loves most of all.

in an effort to intervene on nesta's new self destructive nature, feyre forces nesta to work with a group of priestesses and continue her training. inspired by the shared pain with the priestesses at the hands of men, nesta convinces these women to begin training alongside her. they become known as the valkyrie.

recently, nesta was sent on a mission to recover three magic artifacts together known as the dread trove: a harp, a crown, and a mask. on this mission, it is discovered that nesta is the only being in existence capable of using all three artifacts all at once.

fearful of her abilities, rhysand and his inner circle take the dread trove items and lock them away, including nesta herself. she is once again sequestered to the house of wind.
