Sen Cal Kapimi Theories

I have a new show that I’ve become obsessed with. It’s a turkish show called Sen Cal Kapimi and its the first turkish show I have ever watched, its amazing and I’m totally in love with it, I am particularly obsessed with the main couple Edser, their chemistry is off the charts. I am finally all caught up and now my inner detective has been awakened which means I am aflood with theories for the next episode. Obviously there are spoilers for anyone who isn’t caught up and for the fragmans that have come out so if you want to go into episode 21 completely spoiler free skip over this post. The rest is under the tag. 

Ok so I’m first gonna talk about the emoji’s  Neslihan (serkan’s mother Aydan) posted when a fan asked if she could give a hint as alot of my theories are based on them.

So the first one of the ring crossed out I think could be to do with the scene in fragmen 1 where it looks like serkan and aydan have come to ask for Eda’s hand. I actually don’t think this is what happens and that Melo misunderstood which is why she looks sad during the group photo and does a side look over at eda and serkan. I think she’s disappointed that they are not getting engaged. I actually think that they are there because of the school project they were involved in and that’s why the photographer is there. Aydan could actually be there to ask if Ayfer is willing to do an interview to do with the cakes she made for the foundation. Part of the reason why I think that is because in some of the shots in the fragman Fifi is in the background so we know she’s at eda’s house yet she’s not in the group picture, everyone in the picture is either related to art life or to the commitee. I think Fifi isn’t in the picture because although she helped out she’s not directly involved in either. The other explanation is that Fifi leaves before the picture is taken. But this is my best theory for what is going on in this scene. They’ll be a string of hilarious misunderstandings and it’ll be revealed this isn’t an engagement request thus the crossed out ring. However there is a snag in my theory which is Aydan’s line of ‘with god’s will, for my son.’ This apparently is part of a phrase said when asking for a woman’s hand and is unique to that situation it’s something like ‘with god’s will, for my son I ask for your daughter’s hand.’ Now I’m not turkish so I can’t say for sure. But another snag is if you look at this low quality screenshot I took from the fragman.

You can see that Melo is holding a gift and some flowers, there also appears to be more gifts on the table. From what I understand from my research into turkish engagement traditions traditionally the groom and his family will bring flowers and chocolates when asking for a bride’s hand and well that wrapped gift does look like it could be chocolates. As for the other gifts on the table there is also a tradition where the mother of the groom will buy gifts for the bride usually jewellery, a necklace, bracelet and earrings. Other famuly members also present gifts. However from what I can tell from the research these are usually given at the engagement party not when asking for the bride’s hand. 

Another thing that might suggest this is them asking for Eda’s hand is Eda announcing she’ll make the coffee. This is another tradition that goes with this ceremony of asking for the bride’s hand. The bride will make the coffee to show she’ll make a good wife and she’ll put salt in the groom’s coffee, if the groom drinks it all without showing disgust this shows that he has patience for difficult times ahead. So another theory could be that they are there to ask for Eda’s hand but that its a show for the papparazzi. Of course there is a slim chance that its all real but its a very slim chance in my opinion. 

Which brings me back to the emoji and another theory because if it turns out that it’s not a misunderstanding then what else could the emoji mean. Well another theory I have is it could be in relation to Erdem and Fifi. Maybe Fifi confronts Erdem about his engagement to Layla and he admits that they aren’t really engaged and that he did it to try and make Fifi jealous. 

My third theory for this emoji is it could be that Engin formally asks Piril to marry him and she says no. I hope its not that one personally I’d rather see Engin and Piril’s realtionship move forward and become stronger.      

So moving on, the second emoji I think is in relation to Aydan. In the last couple of episodes she has been campaigning, I spose you could call it, to become the new head of the committee. I think in this episode that will happen and she’ll win the vote to become the new leader. I also think its possible she will get it with help from eda and Ayfer and that could be another theory on why in the fragman serkan says to Aydan ‘because you will ask for it.’ I actually think she’ll be asking for a favour from Ayfer and serkan is making it clear to Aydan that if she want’s Ayfer’s help that she has to ask for it herself. 

So the third emoji is because I think it might be Eda’s birthday in this episode. This could be another explanation for the gifts on the table in the screenshot above. Maybe these aren’t gifts for an engagement but for Eda’s birthday. This could also be part of the misunderstanding. Melo thinks the chocolates and flowers and other gifts are because of the intent to ask for Eda’s hand when actually they are birthday gifts. Possibly? Either way this emoji obviously indicates a party or celebration of some kind. If its not Eda’s or someone else’s birthday maybe its a party to celebrate Aydan becoming head of the committee. 

In the second fragmen it is shown that Serkan is helping Eda with her claustophobia. I think this could give us a clue to the fourth emoji. I think Serkan will also help Eda with the falling alseep when stressed issue she has. Earlier in the season serkan said that he and eda would do sports together and Eda said she wanted to do horse riding and boxing. I think we are going to see them go horse riding together. The other thing it could be is to do with that story Serkan told Eda about the horse that doesn’t have a name. Maybe he finally is able to ride the horse or maybe its a combination of the two. Maybe the horse does allow herself to be ridden but by Eda when she and Serkan go for their horse ride. After Serkan lets Eda name the horse. 

The next emoji is an engagement ring. Again I have a couple of theories on this, obviously I’m really hoping that its a case of Eda and Serkan reconcile and decide that after everything they’ve gone through they want to really get engaged. I’m not sure how likely this is though. I don’t think its impossible. I know alot of people feel like its too fast after Eda discovering the truth for them to reconcile, but the way I see it Eda and Serkan have been separated for a while now, we’ve been waiting for a reconciliation for a while now. I also feel like they made alot of progress towards Eda forgiving Serkan in ep 20, Eda wouldn’t have gone to the restaurant if she was unwilling to forgive him. I know the ending of ep 20 complicates things because now they both believe the other one didn’t show up. But I think this will be solved fairly quickly and I can see a scenario where Eda and Serkan realise that while there are things they need to work on in their relationship alot of the problems they are having is because of the actions of others. They could decide to throw caution to the wind and just get engaged and decide to give their relationship a real chance. 

The other scenario is that it could be that Engin will propose to Piril. I  think this one could be possible but at the same time I feel like they didn’t really address the issues Engin and Piril were having moving in together and clashing. So unless they bring that up earlier in the episode and then they get engaged towards the end I’m not sure how likely an engagement would be. It could also be that they resolved those issues offscreen, Piril did say that they would talk about it but we never saw the conversation and they’ve been shown as seemingly happy in their relationship since. 

The last emoji in my opinion looks a lot like the new cast member they’ve just announced. I think the characters name will be Balca and the actress is called Ilayda Cevik. I reckon she will show up at the end of the episode as the cliff hanger. As for who this character might be there are again a couple of theories. She could be the Efe’s secret client or partner. However I, like a lot of people, feel like the client/ partner Efe was talking about is Eda’s grandma this actress is far too young to be anyone’s grandma. It could be this character is working on behalf of the grandma because the grandma isn’t yet ready to reveal her involvement to Eda. But I have another theory. 

In this screenshot from the second fragman we can see that Seline appears to have packed up her desk and is writing a letter to Serkan. I think Seline is gonna be hit hard by her conscience and realise that because of her jealousy she’s become someone she doesn’t like. As a result she will write a letter to Serkan handing in her resignation and confessing to switching the restaurant addresses. Now I don’t think that she’s going to be leaving the show, its possible she might be gone for a couple of episodes, maybe she goes on vacation to clear her thoughts and regather herself. But I do think she will still be involved in the plot in some way though at this point I can’t say for sure exactly in what capacity she will be involved. But if my theory is right and Seline is leaving the holding then they are going to need a new PR representative. I think this will be the role of that new character. No doubt the new character will stir up all kinds of drama but whether she is good or bad remains to be seen.  

Ok so moving on from the emojis I do have some other theories. In the second fragman there is a scene where Serkan is telling Eda not to go. Which begs the question of where is it exactly Eda is thinking about going? Is it just a case of now that Efe is leaving she’s leaving Art Life? Or could it be that Efe offers for Eda to come to Italy with him? I have a theory that the Grandma is planning something nefarious behind the scenes and that she will show up soon but that she might want to get Eda out of the way so to speak first. Or more out of the firing line. She might be worried that if Eda is still there when grandma arrives then Eda will act against her and basically cause problems in Grannies revenge plan so she tells Efe to convince Eda to go to Italy with him. Obviously Serkan is defo not going to want Eda to leave with Efe so he is trying to convince her to stay.  

Something else to note is that Serkan says ‘I missed you’ this could possibly indicate that Serkan fails to convince Eda to stay and she does leave for some period of time. Maybe we’ll even get a little time jump if it is a case of she goes to Italy. Or if its a case of she’s just leaving the holding maybe its been a few days since he has seen her. This could be supported by the fact that Eda seems to be organising flowers and they seem to be at the flower shop, so maybe she leaves the holding and takes over the flower shop so Ayfer can focus more on her cooking/ Star Garden. 

But here’s my favourite theory as to why he might have said he missed her. Eda is very smiley in this scene and Serkan is looking at her pretty intensely. It could be that by this point they have already made up and Serkan means he’s missed her more in an emotional sense, more of a I’ve missed being with you, I’ve missed us, as oppose to I haven’t seen you in while so I’ve missed you if that makes sense. 

Ok so the main thing I think everyone is excited about is that elevator scene, the big debate, will they kiss, won’t they kiss? Will those stupid doors open before we get a kiss? Will they kiss but all the lights go out in the elevator so we don’t see anything? Well I’ve got my clown nose and wig nearby ready and waiting just in case but I’m actually going to be positive and say that not only do I think they will kiss but that I think they would have already got back together by this point in the episode. Yeah I know defo could be totally wrong about it but I don’t know, something about the way he is saying ‘remember us’ in an attempt to get her to calm down I just don’t think he would be saying that if they were still at odds with each other. I mean she’s in a stressful situation where she is trying to conquer her fear of enclosed spaces. If they haven’t worked things out and he’s still trying to win her back then saying something like ‘remember us, be calm’ isn’t going to go over well and won’t exactly help her feel calm. I mean it would be the equivalent of him saying hey remember how I lied to you and how you don’t trust me anymore, by the way stay calm. Because if they haven’t made up then that’s what is going to come to her mind when she remembers them, how he hurt her. Of course all of this is just my opinion but to me the only way that statement makes sense in that situation is if they have already reconciled. 

I have seen some theories on facebook that Serkan will kiss Eda but then she will slap him. This, from what I can gather, comes from Kerem saying that Eda slaps Serkan in the next episode. I do think it’s possible especially if they haven’t made up yet.  But I have my own theory on when and why I think Eda will slap Serkan. I actually think it will happen way before this moment. In my opinion it’ll be the first time she sees him after the dinner fiasco. I mean Eda has got to be soo frustrated at this point. I mean he spends the entire day being really attentive to her making it clear that he wants to get back with her, telling her she’s beautiful, that he loves her, he even invites her to dinner, it would have taken a huge leap of trust for Eda to go and meet him and then (as far as she knows) he stands her up. I could legit see her just storming into the office the next day and slapping him across the face before going off on a rant about how he is so unbalanced and announcing that she’s leaving which will lead into the scene where he asks her to stay. 

So another theory I have is that Aydan will go and stay with Ayfer for a while. 

In this scene we can see Aydan, Seyfi and Ayfer at Ayfer’s house and they’ve got suitcases with them. Aydan also looks like she is breathing a huge sigh of relief like all the tension is leaving her. I think poor Aydan is not going to deal well with being at home alone without Serkan and Alptekin, especially after Alptekin cheated on her. Don’t know about you but I’m not sure I would want to stay in the same house that I shared with my cheating husband, especially when I have no one else to stay there for. Ayfer is the kind of  woman who would help another out in this situation so I feel like she wouldn’t refuse Aydan.  

I also think we are going to get some really great bonding scenes between Aydan and Ayfer and I also feel like they could be quite comical moments. 

I mean look at these beautiful scenes. I do however think that Aydan has another motive for going to stay with Ayfer. We know that Aydan wants Serkan and Eda together. When you think about what obstacles lie in their way you’ve got the misunderstanding about the restaurant and everything around Eda’s parents deaths. There’s not much Aydan can do about those its up to Serkan and Eda to resolve them together. However another obstacle is Ayfer who is very mistrustful of Serkan now. Eda even says as much in the first fragman. I think Aydan is going to work on trying to mend Ayfer’s opinion of Serkan and help reassure her that Serkan loves Eda and doesn’t want to hurt her. She might even try and convice her to help get them back together.

Now in regards to the top picture of them in the kitchen together I think this scene could go one of two ways. It could be a very wholesome scene of them bonding while baking or cooking together. Or it could be that Ayfer has caught on that Aydan is up to something and is trying to use her hypnotising powers to get information out of Aydan. Either way I think it’s going to be full of laughs and I can’t wait to see these ladies bonding together.

Future Foundation: Danganronpa -IF-

lmao i’m wading back into the Danganronpa fandom after literal years, and i just crave fic of the DR1 kids interacting with Future Foundation after the events of Danganronpa IF? I kinda assume they get picked up by the FF shortly after getting out? iirc Kizakura was in a squad on the front lines trying to rescue them. idk if ppl would know to mount a rescue at HPA w/o the killing game actually happening, but since Jin Kirigiri still gets executed I think a rescue attempt makes sense.

(this follows Mukuro’s characterization from Danganronpa IF, in which she’s a lot more sympathetic than her portrayal in DR3. spoilers for Danganronpa, Danganronpa IF, and Danganronpa 3)

So since FF was camped out near Hope's Peak, Mukuro would have to run before she gets apprehended by the FF—like sure, she’s prepared to accept her punishment for causing The Tragedy, but she also wants to take Junko down with her own hands...  and the FF radical faction will definitely execute her w/o a trial on the spot if they get a hold of her, especially since she’s dressed up as Junko. 

Even if FF agents believe she’s not actually Junko, since Yukizome’s still brainwashed, the manipulation of Munakata (and by extension Sakakura, not that he needs much encouragement) to take extreme violent action will be a major obstacle here. As much as I want drama between the class 74 trio and class 78 regarding Mukuro’s possible fate, I think reasons for Mukuro’s capture instead of immediate death are pretty weak? I’d wager that even the moderate faction in FF thinks she should be killed immediately, being the former right-hand woman to the mastermind thus too dangerous to keep alive. (Again: SHE’S DRESSED UP AS JUNKO WHEN THEY LEAVE THE SCHOOL.) In order to take Junko down in what was implied to be a mutually assured destruction maneuver, Mukuro probably separates from class 78 immediately after leaving the school grounds and stalks keeps an eye on them from a distance, Naegi especially, between working out a plan to confront Junko.

(like, i guess class 78/the moderates could argue that as Junko’s right-hand woman, Mukuro has insight into the mastermind’s plans that nobody else has? but I’m not sure if the radical faction is willing to listen, esp since there’s no way to ensure she’s not feeding them false info... maybe a combination of Kimura’s truth serum and the reassurance from the moderates that she’ll be executed as soon as they got the necessary info out of her would stay the radical faction’s hand for now???  ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ 

I can see Yukizome letting Mukuro go if FF has custody of her, assuming she thinks Mukuro is still loyal to Ultimate Despair and foiling the class 78 killing game is part of a long con, with the added benefit of pushing Munakata further along an extremist stance and further destabilizing FF leadership. if she thinks Mukuro had truly defected to the side of hope, i think she’d 1) try to kill Mukuro, or more likely 2) commit suicide/grievous self-harm and frame Mukuro for it, thus ensuring Munakata & Sakakura would devote their resources to wipe out Mukuro and anyone associated with her. Also, independent of what Yukizome planned, Sakakura would want the job of personally ending Mukuro, but he’d be fine with waiting until her interrogation is complete as long as that’s what Munakata wants.)

OKAY YOU KNOW WHAT, the potential interaction between Mukuro & Yukizome was too good to pass up, considering Mukuro was the one who helped brainwashed Yukizome into Despair in the first place... if there’s a way for Yukizometo be saved and cured of brainwashing, it’d probably have to come from Mukuro, since there’s no reason to suspect Yukizome otherwise (which means she wouldn’t get found out/cured). does Munakata change his tune re: rehabilitation once Yukizome was proven to be a Remnant? or does he break from the knowledge that he never once suspected the woman he loves is an agent of Despair (the real Yukizome essentially ‘died’ ~a year ago, the thing wearing her body is, for all purposes, a stranger)? For Sakakura, he has to contend with the fact that he didn’t notice anything wrong with one of his (very few) best friends, and he’d see it as his fault that the real Chisa is ‘gone’, b/c he let Junko go (nevermind that Junko would’ve killed/brainwashed him and/or Munakata instead if he refused to comply)

like, Yukizome had only been brainwashed for a little more than a year (2 years at most) by this point, so she had less time to manipulate Munakata and Tengen, and Munakata seemed fairly reasonable in Despair Arc... so maybe it won’t be that hard to convince him to give the Neo World Program a try, as an attempt to cure her. (on the other hand, think of all the drama if Munakata snapped and decides that Yukizome must die since she’s an agent of Despair, regardless of how she got that way, and Sakakura is visibly conflicted about this order because there’s hope for rehabilitation, but ultimately moves in for the kill as per Munakata’s orders... the class 74 trio makes me sad haha)

(either way Mukuro does not make it out of this version of events alive, if she’s apprehended by FF—best scenario she takes out Junko and goes down with her, but she’s more likely executed by FF for crimes against humanity after her interrogation, or killed by individuals bearing a grudge. i guess there’s a version of this where FF believes she had atoned sufficiently to warrant life-long imprisonment instead of execution, so she has a chance of survival, but it’s a very very very long shot imo. Best way to make sure Mukuro remains in play is to have her leave class 78 before they encounter FF.)

the IF timeline had Makoto regain his memories and tell the others, but Kirigiri’s memories were tampered with even more extensively than the rest, though at least Mukuro had told her what her talent is—Kizakura has to deal with the realization that Kyouko 1) is still angry at her father because their reconciliation had been wiped from her memory and 2) she has no idea who Kizakura is. I think Kirigiri would join the FF and work in Kizakura’s branch at his insistence so he can keep and eye on her for Jin, eventually winding up in the special investigations unit under Sakakura (lmao). 

(on a happier note, at least the DR1 kids and FF know it’s possible to regain their memories—maybe a variation of the Neo World Program could help with that too? kinda slow going since they don’t have Matsuda’s knowledge tho)

Assuming all the DR1 kids join up with the Future Foundation (FF would actively try to recruit them, both because they’re symbols of hope but also because they want to keep an eye on them to find out more about the mastermind): 

Naegi: since he’s the one who regained his memory and convinced Mukuro to switch sides, he’d be a person of interest for sure. the conflict between him and the radical faction is on some level still about their methods and ideologies about hope, but there’s also the fact that they find him incredibly suspicious (esp with Yukizome’s subtle encouragement). Why is he the only one who regained his memories? How did he convince Mukuro, the second-in-command, to betray Junko? How do they know he’s not Junko’s spy, etc etc. most likely in FF custody as an intern, assigned to 14th division (public relations) after he’s been thoroughly vetted

Ishimaru: enthusiastic to join, because helping to restore peace and order is 100% his thing! likely to be assigned to 2nd division (day-to-day operations of FF, peacekeeping, facilities etc) imo. the one to deal with Mondo for facility plans. his goal is to get into the 1st division (overall direction and leadership of FF)

Fukawa: extremely reluctant, and it didn’t take long for FF to discover Syo, which complicates matters. she’s technically in FF custody as an intern because of Syo’s unpredictability and the danger she presents. as Fukawa she would’ve been placed in the 10th division (education and culture revival), but as Syo she’s most likely involved as a field agent for 14th or tester for the 9th (weapons R&D)

Sayaka: initially only joins up because FF promised to help her look for her idol friends and keep them safe, tho she later sees her position as an important one to bring hope and happiness to people (which was part of her goal to be an idol). assigned to the 14th division and involved in certain projects from the 10th as well

Leon: i think he’s a little reluctant in the beginning. probably requests to be assigned to the 14th with Sayaka—because the division more or less serves as the public face of FF for the general populace (path to achieving stardom/popularity), and he wants to protect Sayaka (tho i can see it being awkward when she confesses to plotting his murder in the killing game), plus his athleticism could come in handy for field missions imo. if his relationship with Sayaka is too strained following her confession, I can also see him in a division that interacts with the general populace like the 13th (front-line aid and relief)

Yamada: the relative security and prestige of being in FF appeals to him. assigned to the 10th division due to his extensive knowledge in different entertainment media. clashes with Mitarai on individual opinions, but they have similar worldviews and are in sync with each other when push comes to shove

Asahina: given her personality i think she’d be eager to help rebuilding the world. probably joins the 13th division like in canon, and worries about Sakura (who’s in the 6th and encounters supporters of Despair often).

Chihiro: would be willing to join, especially once they know how much their expertise could help the world, and especially if approached by Gekkougahara to help class 78 regain their memories via another take on the Neo World Program. there’s also the mystery of why Monokuma’s system looks like their work... 7th division (tech & software security and development) is perfect for them

Kirigiri: as mentioned above, i think began her career under Kizakura in 3rd division (HR and recruitment) but joins 6th division (policing, investigative force) in the special investigations unit afterwards. she’d be interested to join FF and conduct her own investigations pretty much right off the bat imo. 

Mondo: reluctant, but willing to join if FF can locate the Crazy Diamonds/keep them safe. assigned to the 6th for his brawling skills and willingness to engage in violence, but later requests to be placed in 12th division (infrastructure restoration) because he’s tired of destroying shit, and it’s a huge problem for him when he had to go up against female Remnants/despair junkies during his time with the 6th. the one who primarily deals with Ishimaru when 12th and 2nd division interact for plans to expand FF facilities

Sakura: assuming Monokuma already approached her to be the mole before the DR1 kids escaped in IF, she’d want to tell the FF what she knows about the mastermind and make up for accepting the offer back then. probably joins 6th division (specifically, the policing unit) under Sakakura (y’know how Sakakura loathes Naegi for being the one to defeat Junko in canon? he’s probably envious of Sakura for ultimately being able to defy her while he couldn’t. but because Junko is still alive as a target to be taken down here, i think don’t he's quite as resentful of Sakura, tho still incredibly petty. also i just think the Sakakura-Sakura connection of being physical powerhouses who were blackmailed by the big bad really neat! both also had/have difficulty with romantic love—Sakura thought it was embarrassing for her as a fighter to have tender feelings before her LI convinced her otherwise, while Sakakura is dealing with homophobia and the fact that the guy he’s in love with is already involved with his other best friend, who he cares a lot about as well)

Togami: I can see him joining in order to use FF resources to rebuild the Togami conglomerate after he finds out it had been taken over + destroyed by the impostor, so from Togami’s PoV it’s a business arrangement. most likely joins 14th (like Sayaka he knows how to work a crowd) but i can see him in 3rd as well, though probably not when they need to make nice with potential recruits

Hagakure: he’d stay as long as it looks like FF is the safest place to be... assigned to 14th, same as canon?

Celes: being a member of FF comes with its own prestige, but even then it takes a lot of negotiation to convince her to stay. I think she’d be intrigued by the 5th division (intelligence and espionage), which puts her in contact with brainwashed!Branch leader Yukizome...

A recently finished replay of KOTOR 2, combined with inferences based on what I learned there plus my own head canon becoming more concrete, gave me a lot of feelings about the sort of relationship I imagine the Exile having had with Kavar. Very sad, and occasionally very angry feelings.

If the wiki is to believed, the Exile had many different masters over the course of her time with the Jedi Order. Which to me sounds like she got bounced between masters a lot, with maybe one or two of them dying. The impression I’ve gotten of the Exile’s general experience with the Order is that she was pretty isolated growing up. Her Force bonding was a powerful, mysterious ability that no one properly understood, she couldn’t control and no one could really, truly guard against. She had a small, potentially very small, circle of close friends (of which Atris was the chief; she seems to have genuinely adored the Exile before the latter went off to war), but otherwise, the other kids, whether they liked her or hated her (and it sounds very much as though there was no middle ground), just kept their distance. The adults had absolutely no idea what to do with her. Her gift was unsettling to them, verging on unnatural in strength levels. We know from an unlockable holorecording on Dantooine that Vrook had it out for the Exile since she was a child, considered her a potential threat since she was a child, and he probably wasn’t the only one.

Trying to figure out where Kavar, who was an informal mentor to the Exile but never formally took her on as an apprentice, fits into this inevitably intersected with the bit about the Exile having been bounced between masters a lot. Basically, what I came up with was that Kavar sort of functioned as a kind of substitute teacher, making sure the Exile kept up with her training whenever she was between masters.

The first time, she was twelve. Her first master had just died, and she hadn’t been picked up by another one yet. Given that she was still quite young, too young to train on her own, the Exile was sent back to classes with the older initiates. Kavar was instructing initiates in lightsaber combat during that point in time, and that was how they met. He already knew about her; there was hardly any adult in the Order who didn’t know about the Exile, that kid with that weird, mysterious, unsettling gift. For the moment, Kavar focuses in more on her skill with a lightsaber. She is unusually skilled for someone her age, and that does get his attention.

He trains her outside of the classes until she’s picked up by a new master, and expects that to be the end of it. It isn’t. The Exile never manages to keep a master for long—a year at most, but more often just a few months, before the master in question becomes so weirded out by her gift with Force bonds that they just decide they can’t deal with it and wash their hands of her. To be perfectly honest, Kavar’s weirded out by it too, but he cares enough about the Exile to not be driven away by it. It’s around the fourth time the Exile gets dumped by her newest master that Kavar considers biting the bullet and taking her on as his apprentice himself, because this is getting ridiculous, she’s seventeen now and she’s spent more time as a Padawan without a master than with one. But he’s been promoted to the Jedi Council by this time, and has zero confidence in his ability to balance his duties with the council with a Padawan. Further complicating the matter is that the Mandalorian wars have begun by this time, and seeing as the Council hadn’t yet decided to remain neutral, he was involved in several of the early skirmishes, and was often away.

The relationship between them was almost like a parent-child bond, but not quite; there was just enough distance between them to keep the relationship from being that. The Exile appreciated the fact that Kavar didn’t treat her like she was a problem, and she valued their relationship greatly for the fact that he treated her like she was normal, but the fact that he taught her without ever formally taking her on as an apprentice made her feel as though she was being held at arm’s length, which contributed to the Exile’s increasing feelings of isolation as she grew up.

As she grew older, the Exile was becoming increasingly aware of her status as the Order’s problem child. She knew what the Jedi Masters thought of her, knew that they regarded her as something strange, as a potential threat, for something completely outside her control. She could perform as a model Jedi and Vrook and those like him would still have had it out for her, would have still regarded her as a threat to the Order because of her strange power. The Exile always felt very separate from other Jedi, very alone. In the background of her mind, she remembers the whispers about her strange power, and sometimes wonders if her few friendships are genuine, if her friends like her for herself, or if it’s simply because of the bonding. Her increasing sense of alienation combined with her overwhelming desire to do something about the Mandalorians attacking the Outer Rim, to protect the innocents being slaughtered, led her to join the war at the age of twenty-two, becoming one of Revan’s top generals in time.

The relationship between the Exile and Kavar became a major source of regret for them both through the war and what came afterwards. It was especially that for Kavar, who after the end of the Mandalorian wars had enough time to reflect to come to the conclusion “…I might have been able to stop some of this if I had just formally taken her on as my Padawan. ……Oh.”

(During the confrontation with the Jedi Masters in the rebuilt Enclave, Kavar mentions that the Exile first began to sever her links to the Force on Dxun, though she didn’t go all the way through with it at that point in time. My first reaction to this was “How the hell do you know that?” It suggests that they either met face-to-face sometime between Dxun and Malachor, or that they had enough of a bond that Kavar felt what was happening to her through the Force.)

The first time they met again in that cantina was beyond awkward. Everything about that meeting was awkward. They were both dressed incognito (character models asides, I feel like Kavar probably had enough sense not to wear clothes that screamed “I am a Jedi” when he was living on Onderon, especially considering that probably would have made things worse for Queen Talia than they already were) and one of the people with her was a Mandalorian in full armor. Absolutely nothing about this was normal, everything was awkward, and the main reason nothing really got discussed in that meeting had less to do with a shortage of time and more to do with the fact that they were too busy side-eyeing each other from across the table for half an hour to do much talking. The Exile was trying to figure out whether she should be angry or not, Kavar was trying to figure out how much he could safely tell her (and, not for the first time, wondering if they’d made the right decision in casting her out in the first place), and both were trying to figure out how much the other had changed, and how much they hadn’t.

When they finally managed to have an extended conversation after Vaklu and his forces were put down, things were somewhat less awkward. It is probably a testament to what these two people are like that they can have a conversation while covered in blood more easily than they can in a cantina. Things do occasionally manage to veer into the awkward, especially when the Exile suddenly comes out with “I found Lonna Vash on Korriban. …She’s dead.” Mostly, things aren’t super awkward only because neither one of them are willing to get emotional. Remembered closeness manages to cut like a knife.

In the game, just judging from the way their conversation goes (this assumes an LS!Exile), Kavar seems fairly approving of the Exile’s actions and is amiable towards her, but we know how that winds up come the confrontation in the rebuilt Enclave. The Jedi Masters fall back on the “wait and see” approach that nearly wound up with the Republic falling to the Mandalorians, and once again, they decide that the Exile is a greater threat than the Sith looming on the horizon, and try to strip the Exile of whatever remaining connection to the Force she has left. The reasons why don’t matter—it could be that they all fell back on dogma, it could be that this was Vrook’s decision (he is markedly hostile towards the Exile when they meet, and is cool towards her even after all is said and done on Dantooine, refusing to admit that the Council might have done something wrong) and that he pressured the other two into agreeing, or something else. Their opinion, that the Exile had been bending her companions to her will and that she had just been feeding on them, and that any moment of affection that passed between her and any of them wasn’t real, was just the result of her bonding, reawakens her childhood fears, does nearly irreparable harm to her.

When the Exile gets over the shock of the three of them dying, when she recovers (somewhat; the insecurity is still there, though she tries not to let it rule her) from the idea that none of the relationships she’s formed with her companions are real, everything with Kreia is said and done and she recovers from that, she finds she’s actually angrier with Kavar than she is with Vrook or Zez-Kai Ell. The Exile expected Vrook to be hostile towards her; he always had been. She didn’t know Zez-Kai Ell all that well; for all that he seemed apologetic when they met on Nar Shaddaa, the Exile knew him primarily as one of the Jedi who had sat in judgment when she was exiled. But she trusted Kavar, and then he did this. There would be no closure, no chance at reconciliation; he was dead, after all.

Their relationship was like many things in the Exile’s life, now—something that had shifted irrevocably into the past, characterized by regret and tainted with bitterness.

Did you have a first encounter with art, that ultimately inspired you to become an artist?

Photography has aroused in me, from my early age, a lot of curiosity and interest. But when I was a child, I had no chance or means to cure my passion; so, my experience with the camera is fairly recent, and begins at the moment in which I was able to have the necessary economic resources to devote myself to this passion. As it often happens, you have to deal, in a very pragmatic way, with money and economic means. When these are scarce, your passions end up becoming a luxury which can hardly be satisfied in everyday life.

My first steps into the world of photography took place in a completely opposite direction to the direction that I have taken today. In fact my first camera was a digital SLR. My photos were the result of an almost childlike behaviour, primitive and chaotic, since everything was dictated by enthusiasm and nothing had a direction or a logical reason. My photos pointed to spectacular beauty and they had no emotional or expressive content. Images were flat and empty.

But those were, nevertheless, the first experiments. My journey and my exploration of the photographic world started from zero. I had no basic knowledge, techniques and language. I did not have any experience nor had completed any studies. I didn’t know the art of photography and I didn’t know the photographers, even the world-famous ones. I was completely “tabula rasa”. I had no knowledge, but this gave me the possibility of not carrying preconceptions. So, at the beginning, everything was an experiment for me, something that could lead to errors. But it was all useful to enhance the experience and to develop, together with the experience, my first personal tastes in photography. Driven by my character and my nature, I have gradually abandoned digital photography, to devote myself almost entirely to photography in black and white analog. At first in 35mm and then, after a while, in medium format.

That was (and is) my idea of photography. My favourite one. The form which ensured the highest level of expression for my personal taste and opinion. The depth and density of the shadows. Black and tangible as ink. Everything took shape and texture. Everything was clothed with an alchemy of gray and shades, of a grain and a substance tactile to the eyes and the soul, but a substance which is essence irreproducible and indefinable. Of the same substance and indefinable nature of which are made feelings and emotions.

Also in this case, I had to start from the beginning. I did not have any basic knowledge in the field of analog photography. At the same time, I wanted to develop my film in black and white by myself, but of course I did not know anything about it. So I had to learn how to develop a film.

So I had only to begin, without thinking too much. Without too many philosophies on techniques and rules. I had in my hands just enthusiasm and curiosity. Without a reference model, without examples to inspire me. I had no direction. But if you do not care to know where you’re going, then any direction is the right direction.

But this reasoning also implies a further observation. My passion for photography is innate, but that does not qualify me as an artist. I like to take pictures. To be or not to be an artist is something that I do not care about and it is not my responsibility. The qualification or attribute of an artist is something that does not add or subtract anything to what I do. It is irrelevant. And being irrelevant, is a statement devoid of logical content and substance. Therefore it does not fall within my sphere of interest.

How did you come up with this particular form of self expression? Why did you choose photography?

I was deeply attracted by the photographic art. By photography. By the image. The image creation. Almost like a primal instinct. The fact of not having been able to pursue my passion since childhood was just a postponement of this inevitable “meeting”, which was not a matter of choice, but a matter of favouring my nature and my propensity towards a form of art, thanks to which, more than any other art form, I have been allowed to give expression and voice to my urgent needs and concerns. It was the only art form that allowed me to remove my thoughts, to separate me from my anxieties, to discharge all tension. A real and effective psychotherapy.

What pushes you to create?

What pushes me to do photography, what are the reasons, the reason I do photography, is closely related to the mood which feeds my visions and gives blood and texture to my photos. I return to mentioning, in a very pragmatic way, without intent or metaphorical excess, the importance of the psychotherapeutic role of photography.

The photographic process, the creative process, coincides with a moment of abstraction and alienation of the self. Taking into consideration all things related to my state of mind, with regard to what drives me today to do photography, my reasons are very different and distant from those of a few years ago. If I have to think, therefore, a reason for which I do photography, the first thing that comes to mind is my necessity, my need, to have to put as much space and distance as possible between me and my thoughts. My everyday thoughts.

Not an easy thing to describe. It is more a feeling of detachment that the mind undergoes. But this is the role and the importance of the photography and of the entire photographic process for me. A time when I push away my thoughts and I suspend my sadness and my malaise. I can isolate myself from the world. For a moment. For that moment.

And all this gives me a sense of being effective, although short-lived. It is also one of the reasons why, in recent years, my pictures are almost exclusively long-exposure; the reason why I have adopted this technique in a preponderant way.

What is the process you usually go through to complete a work, from beginning to end? Not just the technical aspects of the creative process, but also emotional preparation, your state of mind, something related that could trigger it and so on.

Almost all my photos are long exposure photos, which therefore require the use of a tripod and a neutral density filter. Whether I want to take pictures in an urban context, or of a landscape, I always have with me my tripod and all the necessary material in my backpack.

The preparation phase of the picture becomes a ritual that is performed methodically and very calmly. Not in a hurry. Often, especially in the case of long exposure to a seascape, you have to plan well and in advance the photo, in order to follow the movement of the sun and make use of good natural sources of light. Aperture and exposure time should be determined according to the light. My main camera is a Hasselblad, whereby an analog camera medium format completely mechanical, and therefore with no exposure meter. I do not have and never use an external exposure, or any instrument capable of detecting and measuring the level of brightness. And so exposure time and aperture must be established “by eye”. I can only avail on accumulated experience to do this. Especially when I have to calculate the opening times on long exposures.

All this cannot be left to chance, and cannot be entrusted to any electronic automatism. So everything requires a lot of attention. A lot of concentration. Every thought and every action must be directed and projected towards the realization of the photo.

It is in this context that the therapeutic qualities of photography emerge. The moment of estrangement. The time of alienation. When you can put aside your everyday worries and sad thoughts, and all your attention is directed towards things like the movement of clouds, the force of the wind. The oscillation of the tides. And in all that you look only for the silence in your head. For the reconciliation of the soul. In the middle of the scream of nature and the elements, you become an accidental fact. And so do your problems. The voice of your thoughts disappears, submerged by the voice of the wind and the waves crashing on the rocks.

Long exposure photos; stormy seascapes; but also urban centers crowded with masses of people wandering, in a movement that is an anonymous and amorphous flow of souls. These things are useful to detach yourself from yourself.

This can sometimes be too risky, because it makes you underestimate the possible dangers. When you go to the sea and you climb on the rocks, bringing with you your camera and tripod, and the sea is rough and the wind is very strong, raising waves several meters high, and the sea water is pulverized on the rocks in a thin cloud of salt, then it is likely that something can go wrong. And it can happen – as it has happened to me – that a wave hits you and causes you to fall on the hard, pointed rocks. And you get hurt, with cuts and holes on your hands and arms and legs.

Or it can happen that, during a long exposure photo to the stormy sea, a wave, longer and higher than the others, can come and drag you, the tripod and the camera directly into the sea, for a frozen out of season bath. In this regard, I even keep a picture (a very nice picture), which is the last photo taken from that particular camera, before it ended in the sea bottom, along with me and the tripod. A very nice picture, and a Hasselblad broken.

Such incidents aside, after a year of photos to the stormy sea, however, there is nothing left of the camera. It’s completely corroded and eaten by salt. Also the tripod was to be thrown away at the end. But at the time there was not any kind of foresight in what I was doing. There was only a desire to find the most dangerous situation and to just throw myself into it. Being immersed and surrounded by the furious elements of nature, and their consequences, was a much more pleasant thing than any other everyday thinking. These were and are the only thing to which I want to be distant.

What are your preferred topics to shoot?

Marine landscapes are among my favourite subjects. There is no need for me to discuss this obviousness, or that I emphasize on the beauty of a marine landscape. When the sea is rough, and all the elements are in motion, fighting and competing. Wind, water, rocks, clouds, everything trying to overpower the rest. A long exposure photo collects the harmonious synthesis of this fight and this swirling roar.

I also really like street photography. But even in this case, long-exposure photos are those that prefer. In this way I can get two very different and opposing simultaneous effects. We have the immobility and stillness of the urban context, with its buildings, its infrastructure, its architecture. On the other hand, this stillness is broken and interrupted by the movement of people crossing the streets and arteries.

Long-exposure photography in urban centres is characterized by a difficulty different than landscape photography. And perhaps it may reveal more unnerving. You have to find the right place that provides an aesthetically pleasing background. You have to find the right subject that, by its movement, can create an interesting abstract effect. Or a large crowd moving, so that on the film can remain a homogeneous flow of wandering souls.

Of course, work on the photos is not limited to mere execution. It’s always very engaging and fun to develop and observe the result of your own work. On the one hand, when you know you’ve done a nice picture, to a nice subject, you cannot wait to have a first comparison with the developed film.

But, in general, it is always very difficult to predict (or imagine) the end result of a long exposure photo. So there is always a lot of curiosity in observing it.

Name some of your favourite artists, that constitute an influence and inspiration for your own work.

Having started with photography from scratch, I didn’t know any photographer. Even the most famous ones. And I know that this can be considered more of a handicap than an advantage.

The first famous photographer that I have had the pleasure of admiring was Robert Capa. Of course, for obvious reasons, I am not inspired by him; but I really love his photos. I really love his biography. I admire and am very respectful to his history; a very dramatic, but also very generous story.

I love very much other photographers. Tina Modotti, Francesca Woodman, Sebastião Salgado, Abbas. They are the first names that come to mind. But I recognize to all photographers their skill and their importance. Now I know many contemporary photographers. And so it is impossible for me to compile a complete list. I’d like to... I don’t say take pictures similar to Woodman... but I’d like to have poetics similar to those manifested, expressed by Woodman in her photos... I would like my photos to have an ideal affinity with those of Woodman.

But as often happens, will and possibility (or reality) collide and diverge. so my photos sometimes go in a direction opposite to the direction that I’d like. This does not always happen. I say only that I am a very strict judge in relation to my work. and as a true outside observer, even I can judge my photo good or bad. Insufficient or successful.

If it was up to you to describe what you do in the way that you see fit – and not necessarily restricted by classifications or labels – what words would you use?

When I do photography, I do not think I follow a single strand. Not always. Fine art photography, I think that under this expression I can collect most of my photos. Seascapes, ghost photography, still life and abstract art. Certainly not street photography, social or documentary photography. Maybe, I say maybe, a photograph can be identified according to the emotions it arouses. Not so much depending on what it shows, but in the way that it shows it. Photographs must arouse in the viewer a feeling. And in this, there could be the active participation of the will of the photographer. I mean that someone may want to evoke a certain feeling, so they do a certain type of photography.

But I do not know. I never asked myself this question. I like to hear and know the kind of feeling that my pictures arouse in the viewers, but I believe that they are freely interpretable and readable according to the sensitivity of each of us. My photos arouse in me a feeling, but it doesn’t mean that someone else has to have the same feeling. Regarding my most beautiful photos, I’ve never done them with the intention of arousing some specific feeling or sensation. I took them and that’s it.

If you had to choose your favourite work up until now which one would it be?

I never do photos with the intention of provoking a particular feeling. This means that I hardly take pictures with the clear intention to follow a unique project. I am not able (or I am not good) to focus myself on a single line for a long time.

But in the longterm, two strands have come out. Two groups of photos most identifiable and most characteristic. The first group is the strand of “ghost” photos (people and urban centers). In parallel, there has been a second strand: seascapes (often stormy). These photos, for my convenience, are grouped ideally within a series that I call “Arcadia”.

They are not the so-called two sides of the same coin, but two different ways which, at the end, organically describe only one universe. Only one world. Two different paths converging to a single coherent vision.

Alien landscapes. White and evanescent marine landscapes. Lunar areas unfit to host life. Sharp rocks and waters that fade in sulphuric mists. In all of this there is no life. There is no heat. There is only dispersion, neglect and forgetfulness. And cities alienating. Streets crossed by a multitude of wandering shadows, faceless and without memory. With an unconscious movement, almost lost in a numbness of the senses and of reason. Lives suspended in a limbo of non-living. There are no identities. No feelings. It’s just a flow that drags itself towards the end.

What’s your everyday life like – job, family, other activities – and where does photography and making music fit in it? Is it a crucial part of your life or do you view it more like a hobby?

For all that I have written and I said, photography is essential and vital within my life. It’s the part where I converge everything I love and everything that is far and away from everyday life. When I do photography, I build around me a world that is made of silence and stillness. Reflection and dispersion. An abstract world away from the real and present. Away from the frenzy of the present. Away from hypocrisy and separated from hysteria. For this reason (and on the basis of these considerations) my daily life, my work, my family, my friends, are things that I maintain distinctly distant and separate from my photographic passion.

The real world and everyday life should not interfere or interact with the field of my passions.

I said that photography is like psychotherapy. Something that keeps me away from the malaise and sorrows of everyday life. For this reason it is necessary, indeed imperative, that these two worlds never meet.

What is your opinion of social media? Do you see the necessity of their use as a hindrance or a tool, with regard to the promotion of your work and its understanding by the public?

I do not have a structured and equivocal opinion about Social Media. Firstly I think that their usefulness is functional to the actual needs they meet. But often the market is flooded with goods and services that are purchased on the basis of fictitious needs, invented to sell a product. Therefore, if social media are used in order to meet a real need, they are a good thing, in so that they can be an important channel for promoting your business and your work. One that allows you to get in touch with potentially millions of people. They are an important research tool, and an important tool for cultural education. Important precisely because it can reach millions of people and affect their behaviour.

Of course, often people who use social media give them a role and an importance that exceeds their proper use, thus becoming an additional source of stress or, what is worse, they develop a behaviour of psychological dependence that is pathological. My opinion on social media is therefore bound to the type of use that people make of them. They can be a great promotional tool, a great tool for comparison. An excellent tool for entertainment or culture. But a social media platform must remain a tool. It should not become the center of gravity and the goal around which everything revolves.

What are your goals for the future?

I do not have goals for the future. I do not have goals and I have no plans. The things that I have done in recent years are many and they have also led to various results. But I have never pointed to any goal. The results came on their own. What I’d like to do is keep doing what I’m doing, I mean photos.

Photography combines harmoniously with my other passion, that is travelling, seeing new places. Also in this, my conception of a journey is very personal. It coincides with an idea of exploration and discovery that provides for my total lack of planning. Then go, see, walk, decide on the moment, no program. Always with the camera equipment in the backpack and with my tripod.

With respect to goals, the results that I have achieved in recent years have been very generous and numerous. But I repeat, I have never had the worry or trouble of any goal. What the future brings, I will take.

And finally, do you have a message for our readers?

I think I do not have any advice or special message for anyone. I’m not in a position to give advice. I wish everyone had the strength and courage to follow and develop the passion that brings them the most joy and satisfaction. The bigger our passion for what we do, the greater must be the commitment, energy and seriousness that each of us has to put in it.

And only one thing is true: if we have a desire, if we have a dream, we must always have hope and strength to fight for that dream. What I am saying is not something rhetoric. It can be something trivial. But it is trivial in the same way as oxygen and water. We must not stop believing in your dream. If you stop believing in your dreams, if you lose hope, if you stop fighting, what else do you have in this life?
