to be clear i don’t care if people want to have a simplified relationship with storytelling and i say simplified in a neutral way because i don’t think it’s any lesser i mean. im very intentionally planning a novel idea that whilst i imagine will have some emotional complexity (just by virtue of human characters behaving like humans) i want the plot to very simply be characters hanging out. it’s just interesting seeing posts framed as complex media discussion that don’t try to delve further or critically, or writing advice posts that are written with an educational tone but are reducing complex ideas to very mechanical and often unhelpful do A or B approaches. anyway this is what happens when i let my sleep schedule become nocturnal i should be unconscious right now instead of yapping on here

#who remembers writeblr discussions about sad or happy endings as if the answer isn’t just. what works tonally for ur story. #and there aren’t two types of ending either but whatever #mechanical is my fave word for this flavour of writing advice I have a whole #thesis abt writing advice that tries to mechanise writing #anyway my novel idea in question from this post is literally me trying to write something less complex #like nuanced by the way of how my character writing is but not as. intricate as lover boy for example LOL #slice of life i guess but that’s a fanfic trope to me and I don’t use those to describe my writing
