You know, jokes aside, the sad thing about this fandom is that back in the day it absolutely WAS awful in some areas. Especially forums. And especially Candlekeep and the RAS boards. I don't remember Lavender Eyes being too bad, but I genuinely believe that if you were around in the 2000s-2010s when the discourse around Jarlaxle's alignment and/or sexuality was going around, you deserve financial compensation and restaurant discounts for the rest of your life.

#legend of drizzt #the thing is people whine about how Drizzt ruined drow ALL THE TIME #like. people who hate drow and/or Drizzt cannot be normal about it at all #any time you see a thread somewhere or a video or literally anything about Drizzt or drow the comments sections are always flooded w/hate #the toxicity in the fandom has never really been ABOUT Drizzt himself so much as it's been about people #projecting their own ideas and/or issues ONTO Drizzt and RAS and his fans and going waaaaaaaaaay too far with it #and that's just become a socially accepted norm which is gross because people who AREN'T in the fandom think that this is just what it is #those of us who have actually been around and involved over the decades have dealt with that this whole time #BUT ON TOP OF THAT we also had to deal with other people in the fandom being assholes #primarily over thinly veiled queerphobia and misogyny #like... unless you were THERE for it y'all don't know how ugly that shit got #as RAS started getting better at featuring women and queer characters and started really putting more effort into their portrayals #the pushback in the fandom got really nasty and just plain vile #so yeah in certain circles the fandom WAS toxic but not because people liked Drizzt and wanted to play drow in D&D lmao
