I've started a google doc for the steve harrington-centric fic that lives in my brain 2: electric boogaloo

it's called You should've raised a baby girl, I should've been a better son even tho I don't listen to mcr because that line vibes too hard

the story is about Steve and gender and trauma and coping and found family and love except I don't actually have a plot in mind and I want it to be like a rewrite of all of Stranger Things so it would be so fucking long

it's a steddie slowburn featuring a different first meeting but also I'm self-indulgent af and want Stevie to crush on Gareth and Argyle first

I'm being so mean to Steve/Stevie and I've only written down some notes so far

shoutout to my girlfriend for listening to me doing absolutely unnecessary math to figure out ages and high school years

having thoughts about steve not realising he doesn't want to be a man until she is fighting a demogorgon for the first time and has a panicked thought along the lines of "i don't want to die a man/my gravestone will be full of lies (beloved son, as if she's ever been loved by her parents or their son)"

post-s1 steve figuring out gender stuff, like her attraction to girls was actually more "i wish that was me" thinking, and starting out slowly with like pastel sweaters and cute jeans and jewellery, things she can hide or could be found in the men's section

steve taking forever to realise that no, she hates being steve, she prefers stevie, because if it's one thing her parents drilled into her then it was what was expected of "steve harrington" and that clings to her like a parasite for so long that she wouldn't have ever stopped being steve if not for el who has some of the same thoughts about being eleven

hopper taking stevie in after the harringtons actually came home and found their "son" trying out clear nailpolish or lipgloss or something, causing such a disturbance that the neighbours call the police

brain: what if there was a second steve harrington-centric fic where instead steve is mtf and gets taken in first by hopper after s1 and then by claudia henderson after the events of s3 because she doesn't feel right moving with the byers to california (joyce definitely offered because el and stevie are sisters now but stevie can't just leave everyone and she doesn't think jonathan would feel comfortable with it even though she's not that person any longer, and stevie is already scared enough trying to find herself in hawkins, and she wouldn't know what to do with herself in california)

somehow took me until now to realise that i'm projecting my own gender identity on stevie by very specifically having her be transfem and not a transwoman

except i'm a transman but not transmasc so it's like. opposite projection.

i also have more knowledge not being a fictional character in the 80s, so i know i'm nonbinary but stevie's gender is simply "not a man"

(okay to be fair i do sometimes consider my own gender as "not a girl" but my point was more. i know my labels. stevie is going into this without any resources.)
