Hello, Tumblr:
Just popping in, after a long absence, to tell you about the pre-order campaign for my Author's Preferred Text editions of the Bone Season series.
As you may know if you've followed me for a while, I wrote my debut novel, The Bone Season, when I was nineteen and still at university. For its tenth anniversary last year, I decided to re-approach the book with ten years' more writing experience under my belt, and have since revised the whole series to bring it in line with the first. Bloomsbury has given the revised series a beautiful new look, with jackets illustrated by Ivan Belikov, the artist behind The Priory of the Orange Tree and A Day of Fallen Night.
The first book is available in hardback now, and the other three are coming in May, in either hardback or paperback. The audiobooks will also be revised, with narration by Alana Kerr Collins. You can pre-order them here.
If you're pre-ordering from the US, the UK or Canada, you can claim a beautiful art print of Paige and Warden by artist Erica Chan. Details here.
I hope you enjoy the revisions as much as I've enjoyed working on them.

The year is 2059. For two centuries, the Republic of Scion has led an oppressive campaign against unnaturalness in Europe.
In London, Paige Mahoney holds a high rank in the criminal underworld. The right hand of the ruthless White Binder, Paige is a dreamwalker, a rare and formidable kind of clairvoyant. Under Scion law, she commits treason simply by breathing.
When Paige is arrested for murder, she meets the mysterious founders of Scion, who have designs on her uncommon abilities. If she is to survive and escape, Paige must use every skill at her disposal – and put her trust in someone who ought to be her enemy.

When they're not moving about in Scion, the Rephaim dress in cloaks and doublets like it's Elizabethan England, even though they came through from the Netherworld in the Victorian Era. I love the aesthetic, but I find it funny that when they're not wearing modern clothes, they don't even dress in the contemporary style of when they came to the mortal world, but instead in fashion from hundreds of years before that.
That's like if alien beings from an alternate dimension entered our world today, looked around at modern fashion, and decided to wear frock coats and panniers instead.

I met MULTIPLE @sshannonauthor fans at ACME spring, it was surprising and DELIGHTFUL!
My Bone Season big quote pin was definitely a best seller at ACME Spring and I am here to say that stock is starting to get low. Now down to the last 30 from the 100 I ordered many years ago 😅 Once they are gone they are GONE! Same applies to my Build Your Own Book Stack Seven Dials pin! And don't forget the Print is super LIMITED EDITION and I only have 17 of that left 😬 Get them before it's too late!
Have you read The Bone Season? I need to do a re-read at some point and resist the urge to buy all the new editions 🙈
SHOP ALL BONE SEASON & PRIORY INSPIRED PINS HERE!!!

"If anyone has any other ideas, let's hear them." - "Burn it down?" Maria said hopefully.
Feels like the kind of day for one of my favourite quotes... Maria is a trans woman btw 👀

jaxon hall is a marina and the diamonds song. primadonna, power & control, teen idle, girls, the outsider, literally take your pick. the spite and cynicism are just off the charts, and there’s a certain self-aware, hedonistic “me against the world” mentality present in so many of marina’s best songs that mirror him as a character in this essay I will

The Bone Season- Samantha Shannon
Genre: Dystopian LGBTQ+ Rep.: Demisexual MC, gay SC, ace SC, pansexual LI, trans lesbian SC, bi SC, nonbinary SC CW: blood, child death (mentioned), death, vomit, gore, gun violence, kidnapping, murder, rape, slavery (inc. master/slave relationship), torture, xenophobia, drug addiction, chronic illness, gangs, human trafficking, incarceration, PTSD, self-harm, death of a parent, execution, drugging
Plot: The year is 2069, and clairvoyants— those who possess certain powers— have been forced underground by the government's persecution. Not only that, but Paige is about to uncover something much worse. After she is kidnapped on her way home, Paige is smuggled away to a prison of a city that she might never escape alive.
Why I'd recommend this series: This series serves as a really good reminder of how governments launch campaigns against minority groups and the harm this can do (it feels very topical currently). It's also a really exciting and engaging series, with a complex cast of characters.

Disaster Twins Karaoke Battle (alt title: Getting Hyped for the Next Lair Games)
These sketches are old, but I couldn't let National TMNT Day pass without showing my appreciation in some way. I drew these some months ago, while listening to the song Stalemate from the Death Note musical yes, that's a thing, go check it out on loop, and forgot to post them. The song is a bop and I could so easily see the twins loving it, and loving to perform it even more. Massive theatre nerds, the both of them, no one can convince me otherwise.
(In my mind, Leo is singing Jeremy's part and Donnie is singing Jarrod's, but it's interchangeable.)

im just saying that if i had been in charge of s6 of doctor who, i would have fully leaned into the horror of amy's pregnancy, the loss of her own agency in it, the way she was used as a vessel to create a child she would never hold again, amy pond who never indicated once that she even wanted a child and was made to have one anyway against her will, and once they were done using her, they even took away any choice she might make about it in the future.
and i would have had this be a factor in amy and river's relationship going forward. how do you interact with a child you never knew, never got to decide if you wanted to have, and she's also already your friend, you love her as this miraculous, insane woman who has saved your life more than once. she's always known more about you than you could about her, but now you know exactly how much she was keeping from you. it's not like she could have told you, could have stopped it, but all this time, she was your friend and she was your daughter, and how do you learn to live with her?
