lloyd asks javier to kill him. his parents are dead, the queen is dead, the entire continent is in ruins, everything they worked for is gone. but he can fix it. he can fix it. he just needs javier to kill him. it's ok, he can fix everything, he can save everyone he just needs javier to kill him when he tells him to.

javier refuses. of course he does, lloyd is all he has left, he's all that's left for him to protect. he promised to protect him with his life how could he ever kill him.

but lloyd insists. he says it's the only way. he can save them, all of them, all of it, he can save everyone, he just needs javier to do this for him. it needs to be javier, because it has to be quick and it needs to be precise and there's no one in the world lloyd trusts more. he already trusts javier with his life, now he's just trusting him with his death too.

and they fight and they argue and they go back and forth and they beg and they plead but lloyd doesn't budge and in the end there's very little javier can deny lloyd. he trusts him far too much for that.

and so the day comes. lloyd talks and javier listens and it feels like the words aren't for him but it doesn't really matter anyway.

javier asks if there's really no other way as he has a thousand times before. lloyd says there isn't as he has a thousand times before as well.

trust me, because he understands what he's asking him to do

alright, because he already does

and javier steadies his sword and he steps forward.

and he wraps his arms around lloyd, pulling him close, until the space between them dissapears completely, tightly like he's afraid lloyd will vanish if he lets go

lloyd hesitates because they had never been the type to hug like this, but he's about to die and he's scared and he knows how cruel of a request this was for javier so he allows himself to hug back

and that's when he feels the sword piercing his back, going through his body and straight into javier's chest in a motion so fast it ends almost as soon as it began, with both of them impaled by the same sword

and he wants to scream and rage because this wasn't what he asked, this wasn't what he wanted javier isn't supposed to die, he's not allowed to die, it's the whole reason lloyd is doing all this-

but javier's aim is perfect as always and he can already feel himself fading away. quick and precise, just like he asked

and he's tired and their legs gave way beneath them at some point but javier is still holding onto him and it's. it's nice. to be held like this.

so he closes his eyes

and lloyd opens them back in his room, breathing fast, the cold of the sword in his back and the warmth of javier's blood on his hands still painfully, vividly real in his memory

it's just one future, he reminds himself, it won't happen that way

he won't let it happen that way

he won't end up impaled like that

(he almost laughs as he feels the scythe piercing his stomach)

i knew it there was no way in hell these fuckers would see the chance to absolutely crush my heart to smithereens and not take it of course they did a parallel with the illustrations of fucking course they did it wasn't enough for both of lloyd's and javier's thoughts to mirror each other they also had to do a visual comparison i am so normal about it i swear-

it's the way javier uses his own body to shield lloyd, the way he goes on to fight the very king of hell himself even while bleeding out, pushing the limits of what should be humanly possible over and over and over again because lloyd is still there and he's still not safe and if javier can give him even just one more minute, just one more second, then it'll be worth whatever pain, whatever exhaustion, whatever damnation may come for him, just so lloyd can be safe-

and it's the way lloyd uses his own body to shield javier, the way he walks to what he thinks will he his own death because when it comes to choosing between javier and him, well, it's not really a choice, no matter how much he hates to die, how much he wants to stay, how much he loves his new life, he still wants javier to live more, so he smiles and he laughs because maybe if he does it hard enough it'll be enough to ease javier's guilt just a little bit but his eyes are blurring and in the end he just thanks him for being with him all this time, tells him that the time they spent together was the happiest he ever was, and that if they only think of him every once in a while, if they don't forget about him-
