ik i don't normally post about these guys, but stucky has lived in my head rent free since 2014 and sometimes you've got to share the love, yanno?

anyways i find it really fascinating that mcu bucky barnes actually has origins in another character entirely from the comics, and that character was one of the (if not, the) first canonically queer characters in marvel's history.

his name was arnie roth, and basically everything about pre-serum steve and bucky's relationship that we see in the MCU comes from this guy. he used to protect steve from the neighborhood bullies who would pick on him growing up in brooklyn, and they became best friends because of it. they would double date, and arnie is actually the one who would call him "stevie" like all the stucky fics are so fond of including lol

then arnie served as a sailor in wwii and actually saw captain america again, and years after the war, steve reunited with him and helped him save his boyfriend, michael, from kidnappers. sadly, michael died during another kidnapping, but after that arnie helped steve for awhile with some sort of captain america hotline until he eventually died of cancer.

just keep giving me reasons to queer up james barnes, marvel 😈 this just makes bucky one step closer to being canonically gay as he'll
