the thing that people don't acknowledge about caduceus is that he's a 19 year old accidentally goth homeschooler (in the way that only people who don't know what goth is can be like the truest fucking goth) whose main hobbies are being the most gossipy, judgiest bitch in the mighty nein, talking to plants as if he can understand them in a universe where he canonically CAN communicate with them, he just doesn't fucking get them, and making tea. he dyed his hair pink. he is terrified of water. he carried a bone flute hundreds of miles for the specific purpose of terrifying his sister out of her mind before he even knew she was alive for sure. his response to a one night stand with a hot but evil girl was "sleep well with your bad decisions". he's a middle child. he keeps getting stuck in mud puddles. he spends 90 episodes teaching fjord about how to accept death and then while fjord was extolling how great caduceus was at acceptance, caduceus was pleading with god to resurrect a dude he never even met. "wise old guy who counsels the group" couldn't be further from the truth. that's what he WANTS you to think. plus this is objectively funnier

also can we talk about the fact that rose immediately gave herself two jobs as the doctor’s companion and they were, in order,

1. protecting other people from the doctor, and

2. protecting the doctor from himself

like YES. GOOD. CORRECT. she was so far ahead of the curve. she is an immediate defender of humanity at large and then later refuses to let the doctor pressure gwyneth into anything she doesn’t want. she stands up for mickey, for her mom, for the random plumber that she meets at the end of the world.

and when the doctor finally tells her where he’s from and what happened--when he tells her “there’s no one left, rose.” the first words out of her mouth--

“there’s me.”

like literally all rose does is see people in need of compassion and give it to them. she sees people being oppressed and she fights tooth and nail for them. what a fucking legend.

god the longer i'm like. around and stuff and meet other adults, the more it really becomes clear to me that there is a person out there for Every Single Job who would do said job with extreme joy. and if they got UBI, with or without pay. there is a guy at my job who is sitting his exams to be a dental hygienist right now, and when i asked him what about it appealed to him, i was expecting the usual "well it pays a lot lol" or even that little "money doesn't hurt either haha" thrown in at the end of a speech with more of a pretense of doing a thing for the love of it.

this man. talked to me for the HOUR that we were closing. about how much he loves teeth. and taking care of people's teeth. and how important they are to him, and preventative care, and the anatomy of the human mouth. not ONCE did the money come up. he just fucking loves??? dental hygiene. me personally i'm like. god. could not. IMAGINE. but you know what!! he loves it. and i truly truly truly believe there are people out there who love love love doing just about every job you can imagine who would gladly do it for free for a lifetime, if they only knew they were secure in their basic needs.
