valentine’s day terumob?
But of course!
Word count: 1.8k
Tags: terumob, valentines day, flowers
In retrospect, maybe Shigeo should have realized that flower shops are at their busiest on Valentine’s Day.
By the time he gets there, he’s out of breath, sweating through his school uniform, and there’s a line of people out the front door. Shigeo’s excitement very quickly turns into dread when he stands on his toes and counts the number of people ahead of him. Ah, not good. He’d thought that coming early before school might be enough to beat anyone else who may have his idea, but it seems like everyone had this idea. He even notices a few of his classmates a little bit ahead of him in line.
Shigeo taps the shoulder of the person ahead of him. “Um, excuse me, do you think I could-”
“No way, bud,” they interrupt abruptly. “We’re all here because we forgot to get our girlfriend flowers. You can wait.”
But… Shigeo hadn’t forgotten. He and Teru had agreed not to get each other gifts, but then Shigeo had talked to Tome who insisted that was just boyfriend code for I’m secretly getting you a gift. Which only made Shigeo panic that much more, and he had decided to take a detour on the way to class to get something last minute.
…And apparently, so had everyone else in Seasoning City.
By the time Shigeo is actually inside and able to make a selection, he’s pretty sure he’s going to be late for school.
People brush by him carrying lovely bouquets full of roses and peonies and all sorts of big, pretty flowers. But when Shigeo reaches the shelves that are normally bursting with all sorts of arrangements, they’re totally bare. He frowns and looks around the store. They’re all empty? But… But it’s a flower shop. Flower shops can’t run out of the one thing they sell.
Panic grips his throat and threatens to squeeze the air from his lungs. No, no this can’t be right. He needs to get something for Teru! Or else that would make him a bad boyfriend, right?
Eventually, Shigeo makes his rounds around the entire store and finds one arrangement left. It’s… well, it’s minimalist, he supposes: one purple peony that’s still halfway to blooming, two smaller flowers, and a few sprigs of leaves. Shigeo feels himself deflate at the little bouquet in his hands. It’s nothing at all like his boyfriend. Teru walks into a room and exerts a confidence that demands attention to be drawn his way. This doesn’t fit him.
But it’s all that’s left, so it’ll have to do. Hopefully whatever Teru gets him won’t be too impressive.
Shigeo realizes he has to carry the flowers around all day, so he makes do and tucks them into the front pocket of his backpack with the blooms sticking out as much as they can. It’ll be alright. They only have to survive the school day until he can meet up with Teru.
Tome texts him in the middle of his last class to stop by the Telepathy Club slash Body Improvement Club’s room for a gift. According to Inukawa, she made Valentine’s for all her friends every year.
She already has Shigeo’s waiting by her side when he comes into the room. Tome pauses her game and kicks her feet off the table to get up and greet him. “Happy Valentine’s Day, Mob!” Tome announces happily. Shigeo sets his bag on the ground to get some weight off of his back. His friend holds out his card, and he accepts it with a bow of his head.
It’s handmade: thick cardstock with a little alien in a spaceship orbiting the moon. In sparkly font, it says I’m over the moon for you, valentine! Shigeo runs his fingers over the lettering and smiles at its texture.
“Thank you, Tome-chan.” Shigeo’s heart swells with appreciation.
“Don’t take it too much to heart,” Takenaka rings out from behind Tome, where he’s sharing a box of chocolates with Inukawa. “She uses the same, like, eight alien jokes every year.”
“At least I made something, moron!” Tome snaps back at him. “You just scribbled on a piece of notebook paper!” Inukawa grimaces as his Mobtendo Switch makes a very obvious game over noise.
Takenaka points a chocolate in Tome’s direction. “But it was original, wasn’t it?”
Shigeo’s smile widens a bit. He’s just glad his friends are all in one place.
The door to the club room swings open again, and it seems the Body Improvement Club is finished with classes for the day as well. They’re all talking to each other about a new workout regime and tossing their bags to the side. Shigeo watches in slow motion as Onigawara’s bag slips from his hand and hits against Shigeo’s.
Specifically, it hits the front of Shigeo’s bag where the flowers are neatly tucked away.
Shigeo ignores Musashi’s greeting and bolts to his backpack. No, no, no. Surely not. Surely this isn’t happening to him-
He removes the bouquet from his bag, and a few wilted petals fall to the ground around his feet. All that’s really left are some twigs and leaves and the vague semblance of some color.
“What’s that- Oh.” Onigawara pauses behind Shigeo. “Shit, was that important?”
Takenaka wrinkles his nose and scratches the back of his neck a bit awkwardly. Tome exchanges a look with Inukawa that suggests it didn’t exactly take the telepath in the room to understand that yeah, it had meant a lot to Shigeo.
“Kageyama-kun-” Musashi starts, holding out a hand as if to try and calm Shigeo.
“I have to go,” Shigeo blurts. He bows to Tome. “Thank you for the card.” And then he bows to Musashi. “I’ll-I’ll be back tomorrow.”
With that, Shigeo bolts out the door before he can do something stupid… something like crying. His eyes feel uncomfortably hot, and his throat squeezes tight as he fights back tears.
Teru is already waiting for him at the train station. His boyfriend is looking around, trying to find Shigeo in the swarm of people as one train dispels its passengers and allows more on.
But Shigeo has had a bit of a growth spurt, so he stands out better than he may have used to. Teru’s eyes lock onto him at the same instant Shigeo notices him searching for him. His boyfriend’s neutral expression very quickly changes into a big grin. Teru pushes off from where he’s leaning against the wall and shoves through the crowd to get to Shigeo.
Shigeo feels so guilty the second Teru starts to approach him, but Teru also has a quality to him that soothes Shigeo like no one else can. As soon as Teru is in front of him, Shigeo wraps him into a hug.
“Oh!” Teru laughs, voice ringing gleefully even with the subtle roar of hundreds of people talking at once. “Happy Valentine’s Day to you too!” He hugs Shigeo back just as tight, tucking his face into his shoulder. Slowly, the horrible shame starts to melt. The warmth of Teru against his body is enough to seep away all the terrible feelings weighing down Shigeo’s conscience.
They part after a moment. Teru still has his hands on Shigeo’s hips, and he’s beaming up at his boyfriend. Ah, he’s really cute, isn’t he? His school is strict on uniforms, but it seems Teru managed to rebel in his own little way with dangly heart earrings and pink hair clips.
Teru reaches up and tucks a stray piece of hair behind Shigeo’s ear. “I know we said no gifts-” His hand moves to cup Shigeo’s cheek. “But I couldn’t help myself. I’m sorry!”
Only Teru would apologize for getting a gift. Shigeo’s heart sinks. He’d been secretly hoping Teru really didn’t get him anything, but it seems that Tome’s secret language had been correct. Shigeo can only watch in half-masked disappointment as Teru rummages through his bag and produces a little gift bag, maybe a little bigger than his hand. Reluctantly, Shigeo takes it from him and peers inside.
A keychain with a milk carton. Shigeo takes it out and lets it dangle from one finger. “It’s a little silly, I know,” Teru starts with a sheepish smile, “but it reminded me of you. I saw it whenever we went to that store that’s beside the churro store- you know the one? And I couldn’t help but-” He cuts himself off, smile dropping into a horrified expression. “Shige? Are you crying?”
Oh, when did that start? Now that Teru’s mentioned it, Shigeo can’t focus on anything but the hot tears falling from his cheeks. He drops his head in shame. “I-I tried to get you something too, but-but I…” Shigeo sniffles loudly. “It’s terrible.”
Teru ducks his head so he can see Shigeo’s face. “I know for a fact that nothing you could have gotten me is terrible,” he says, offering a reassuring smile. Shigeo only hiccups at that. Why is Teru so wonderful? His boyfriend nestles close to him, rubbing his arm. “Can I at least see for myself?”
Every fiber of Shigeo’s being screams at him not to show Teru, but… he can’t deny him anything. Teru’s his biggest weakness. So Shigeo reaches around to take out the sad, wilted bouquet from his backpack. It looks even worse than it did in the club room. Even the leaves are starting to fall off now. All that’s left are stems and maybe the leftover bud from one of the flowers and- man, Shigeo is crying again.
“I-I couldn’t- There weren’t-”
“They’re perfect,” Teru says.
Shigeo risks looking up at him. He expects… well, he wasn’t sure what he was expecting, but certainly not the pleased expression on Teru’s face. His boyfriend takes the sad bundle of stems in his own hands and looks up at Shigeo.
“You thought of me when you got them,” Teru explains with a warm smile. “That’s what matters.”
The tears stop coming, but Shigeo can’t stop his lower lip from trembling. “Is it okay if I kiss you?” he asks softly.
Teru nods, and he stands on his toes to meet Shigeo halfway. Their lips brush together, and it’s like coming home. It’s taking your shoes off and flopping into bed. It’s submerging into a warm bath with a candle lit. It’s comfort. It’s home, Teru is home-
The stems in Teru’s hands tremble, and as if they were fireworks waiting to pop, they explode into an array of big, colorful flowers. Teru yelps in surprise and looks down in awe at the transformation happening right in front of them. The sad little arrangement is no more. Now it’s pinks and yellows and oranges and purples- roses and carnations and peonies and exactly what Shigeo had been looking for when he set his alarm extra early this morning to get Teru a bouquet.
Teru grins down at the bouquet, then back up at his boyfriend. “You-”
“Thought of you,” Shigeo finishes.
Teru reaches up for a second kiss, a third, a fourth. The cracks in the sidewalk around them start to have wildflowers sprout up, the flower beds lining the pavement begin to spill over-
And they end up missing their train.

TBHK Headcanon: Valentines Day Edition!
Hanako: When Nene isn't around, he writes little innocent love letters and feels embarrassed reading over them so he flushes them down the toilet. He thinks about asking the Mokke to grab some chocolate for him so he can give it to Nene but he decides it's pointless. He knows Nene doesn't like his "type" (mostly short), so he figures he doesn't have a chance with her.
Nene: She fantasizes about all of her classmates and upperclassmen tripping and drooling over her, giving her love letters and chocolates left and right. Except, those are only fantasies that are as real as the sketches she draws about them in her notebook during class.
Kou: He wanted to at least write a letter for Nene but got caught by Teru before he could even finish the first sentence and immediately threw it away at home. Instead, he just opted to bake something for Nene and make it seem a little more platonic because he isn't sure whether or not he's her type.
Mitsuba: He doesn't necessarily have a crush on anyone and no one knows of his existence, so he just keeps to himself all day, maybe trying to talk to Kou or just about anyone who isn't spending Valentines day with anyone.
Teru: He knows a lot of girls fawn over him, because of that, he wouldn't want to start a fight between the people who like him (because that's most likely actually happened before), so he decides to fake being sick on valentines day or just straight up tells people he doesn't have anyone he's interested in (he'll be quick to try and flirt with Aoi if he sees her though [and easily get turned down gently but bluntly]).
Tsukasa: He makes paper cut outs of hearts and of Amane (because this dude is hella obsessed with him, it's unhealthy at this point man [and creepy]). He annoys Sakura but singing love songs very loudly or playing love songs over the intercom thingy Sakura uses.
Aoi: She always fakes being sick on valentines day because she isn't about to come home with piles of chocolate she won't eat.
Akane: Since he knows Aoi doesn't come to school on valentines day, he drops off a letter, flowers, and box of chocolates at his house. He knows she'll say no, but he still tries.
(Slightly a manga spoiler because Hanako and Kou does canonically have a crush on Nene, as well as both Akane and Teru having a crush on Aoi so like, double love triangle??? Yay???)

TMGS4 review from a longtime fan.
Fair warning: here be a completely subjective and disorganized ramble about the game.
TL;DR: GS3 is a peerles masterpiece. With the original team gone, and Konami being the black company that it is, it’s understandable that this sequel would lose some of its shine. Though it has its good points, it’s also got some pitfalls that are worth adressing.
Well, first things first:
WHERE DID ALL MY BAD BOIS GO!?
From Jin Tendo to Ruka and Kou (and even Teru could count, as he was pretty rough around the edges), I really admired how the previous games portrayed troubled youths with emotional issues that the MC would help them overcome with her love.
Second of all: I didn't really like Kazama's route. Being that I have a soft spot in my heart for the earlier games' protagonists, I really wanted to like him, too. Particularly in the second and third games, the "male protagonist" storylines really amped up the angst and character development towards the end of their route -- which I really enjoyed! Now and then, I still revisit Teru's scene where he reveals to the MC that he's leaving Sangosho, just to revel for a little while in the drama and teenage angst (and the voice acting, omg). The fact that you can later choose for the MC to try to give Teru a chocolate for valentine's day, resulting in her heartbroken visit to the now-closed cafe, is just the cherry on the cake, as well.
Ruka's route was even darker, revealing suicidal ideation, and the way a troubled youth deals with the guilt and trauma of losing his parents at a young age. The relationship between him and Kou was also solid; as, through their many interactions, you can really get an idea of how much they care for one another. Their fight over the MC and later reconciliation was so well executed that even something as trite as a love triangle, with two guys fighting over the same girl, became emotionally compelling.
This is all to say that, in comparison, Ryouta's route fell flat for me. In general, I feel like the game tried to do "throw-backs" to previous games -- though not always with the same success as its predecesors. The scene where you find him talking to his father on the phone, for example, immediately made me think back of Hazuki's scene from the first game. Towards the end, the part where Ryouta leaves for England felt similar to the way Teru peaced out on the MC, yet carried none of the same emotional weight. Unlike Teru's case, there was hardly any build up to Ryouta's departure. I wish we'd gotten to know his grandfather.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Throw back, or rip off?
In general, I found most of his events to be rather boring. Part of this might be because my japanese proficiency is pretty limited, but what I got was a rich young man (bocchan) who, at the most, worried about his father's somewhat unethical business attitude, but never really rebelled against it. And his hobby is... fishing (fascinating). His fixation with the MC was too big of a personality trait, and I didn't really enjoy how he kept harping on the MC for not realizing his feelings. He seemed constantly annoyed by the skinship love mode, as well. Bruh, I know they wanted to make it fun and such, but his constant "no"s just made me feel like I was molesting him. Not good. At the Christmas event, all that was going thru my mind was "tf is going on with his hands!?".
Tumblr media
- He’s clearly leaning on something, but the perspective and position of the hands just feels weird...
His ending was just "okay". Following a guide, I've gotten his "true ending" twice (first only targeting him, later forming a friends group), and... can I just say the decision to have his past voice as a kid overlap with his current voice was not a good one? It just felt weird, and not too well executed.
Tumblr media
I just don’t like how smug he looks here. It’s like he took protagonist’s house key away and is refusing to give it back. Lol.
The idea to make a group of 4 was a nice addition, and I like hat you can chat with them during lunch time. New dialogue options also open up during after-date events, which is always a plus!
That being said, the groups don't feel as "tight" as the ones you could form in GS3. Depending on what you choose, different groups can form, so it doesn't really feel like any of the guys have a strong friendship or bond between them (with the exception of Nana and Iku, who seem to have a lot of fun random events) that would hold/develop without intervention from the MC. There are also no walking-back-home conversations, and no group ends. It’s also a little disappointing that there’s no way to form groups together with the girls (Michiru and Hikaru).
You can form different groups with Ryouta, which, again, seems good in theory... but just leaves me with the feeling that he could not care less about his male friends, and is just along for the ride to stay together with the MC.
The CGs are another point I'd like to talk about. There are some I did genuinely like, but others where I can't stop noticing the weird perspective, unnatural posing, and weird proportions.
Tumblr media
getting a headache trying to figure out why the wall is bending that way
Tumblr media
I could let it go if it were just one or two CGs looking a bit strange, but when it's *most* of them, then I feel there's a problem. There are some that I feel have no excuse, like Nana's CG where he's taking off his glasses -- only his glasses disappear, but his hand remains in the same position. Not bothering to draw him with his arm down just seems lazy to me (!) for what is a pretty expensive game. Did he just put his hand up again, in the exact same position, after taking off his glasses?
Tumblr media
Another pet peeve is that the CGs where you’re talking with the characters at the cafe are now no more than their regular sprites, only placed behind a table. Again, seems lazy. Surely it’s not that difficult to draw a still image??
I realize I've spent a lot of time dissing the game so far, so let's move on to something I did like: Nana's route. I became interested in it after reading a comment somewhere about the way he challenges gender stereotypes and was like... for real?
Yes. For real, and it's probably one of my favorite things of the game so far. I really enjoyed how he opened up to the MC about his cross-dressing, and his CGs are, Imo, better than Ryouta's (though still not completely free of the 'what is going on with these proportions?' syndrome).
Tumblr media
That close up of his hand is so unflattering :(
Love mode skinship with him also felt more natural, as he actually asks the MC to get closer. There's still the chance to have a small conversation if you don't fill the meter to the max before getting home, but I found the reply options to be somewhat lacking. Sigh... in general, the removal of the angel / sweet devil dynamic feels like a step-back, and this MC tends to act as if the could have no possible idea, not a single indication of what romantic attraction could possibly *be*, often wondering to herself "huh, I wonder what X meant by that" after their almost confessions.
At least the previous games gave you some leeway on what the MC could be thinking, often just having her go “LI-kun...” after the boy in question stomped off in embarrassment; or moments like:
Tumblr media
Going back to Nana, wowever, I also personally felt he was a tad bit... disperse. He was a teenage model who looked up and admired/resented Hazuki Kei, *and* he also cross-dressed, publicly passing as a female, *and* he was also an otaku who enjoyed games and had trouble relating to other people. These characteristics were somewhat tenously strung together, but, by the end of his route, I was left with the feeling that it might have been a better idea to focus on one or two of these characteristics and delve into the 'why' of it, rather than trying to do everything at once in an effort to make a character unique.
I’m also going to comment on the girls. Maybe I need to replay and pay them more attention, but... I didn’t like them as much as I loved Karen and Miyo. I’m not sold that they’re kinda “two for one”, where, for example, you can only give them both the same birthday gift, as this somewhat robs them of their individuality.
Another thing is that it’s difficult to get their CGs without specifically aiming for them (eg you have to join their clubs, or work for the same business). Michiru has a CG where you have to exhaust all conversation topics with her (until you reach the option to ask about love) before october of the 3rd year to get her CG -- mind you, all through random encounters walking back home from school, which the player has no way to influence or control except through trial and error, and a whole lot of reloading.
Only one of Hikaru’s CGs depends solely on her relationship with the MC, and, while I was super excited to see it, the result left me a bit unconvinced. In brief, Hikaru reveals that her always cheerful exterior is a front, and that sometimes she gets tired of it. Assures the MC that soon she will go back to being the same Hikaru as always. MC goes “ufufu!” and... that’s it? Come on, MC! At least tell her there’s no need to pretend in front of you, or something!? Yikes. In comparison, the MCs from GS3 and GS2 are FILLED with spunk and personality.
Tumblr media
whoever designed the sweet devil mode deserves a nobel prize of gaming tbh. rip sweet prince, we will always remember you </3
Finally. The teacher. Unfortunately, the older I get, the less tolerance I have for this type of relationships, and I thought the decision to barely make Osako a LI in TMGS3 was a tasteful one (and it’s sweet how he actually encourages you to live your youth to the max!). In this one, I made the mistake of going on one of his extracurricular lessons, which triggered a CG event where they go on a date together. Later, you get an event that you cannot opt out of where they go on another date and he feeds her a fruit sandwich. Again, all that was going through my mind was "eww, inappropriate much???" while having Amanohashi flashbacks (I'm so sorry lmao).
Tumblr media
Perspective, once again, is wack. It looks like he’s about to stuff her face with that.
Summary: don't date your teacher. Not even once.

11 Questions Tag Game!
Wow, more than one person tagged me for this. Luckily the questions change, so it’s like the Energizer Bunny and just keeps going and going and going. This round I was tagged by @starsinursa -- thank you! =)
THE RULES ARE SIMPLE
1. Post the Rules. 2. Answer the questions given to you. 3. Make 11 questions of your own. 4. Tag 11 people
Begin!
1. What is the best compliment you’ve ever received, the one piece of praise that really sticks out in your mind?
A comment from good friend of mine comes to mind, after a nice thoughtful conversation about cultural appropriation and imitating Native American tribal art. My thoughts on the matter made him re-examine his own stance on it, and after the conversation he told me, “This is why I enjoy talking with you so much. A wonderful intellect.”
2. Weirdest food/ food combination that you love?
I have food allergies and have been on the ketogenic diet lately, so my food is already kind of weird. Maybe fat bombs would qualify? They’re basically chocolate-flavored hunks of coconut oil you eat to get some fat into your diet fast. They’re actually really tasty -- like chocolate truffles you keep in the fridge. On a similar note, my favorite coffee has a tablespoon of caramel creamer and a tablespoon of coconut oil in it, melted and whirled up with a wand blender. It’s delicious.
3. What would your spirit animal/ totem/ patronus be, and why?
Good question. I’m definitely something that likes to nest and cuddle and possibly hibernate for the winter. I also like to eat meat, so maybe I’m a snake. Lazy when cold, likes body heat, likes meat. Oh, and can be considered cute, if you can look past resting bitch face. XD
4. Favorite dirty joke (or clean is fine, if you prefer)?
Oh, I’m not good at being funny. My favorite jokes are dad jokes with cheesy puns involved. Stuff like “I was wondering why the baseball kept getting bigger and bigger, and then it hit me.” and “I wasn’t going to get a brain transplant, but then I changed my mind.” Jokes about T-rex’s tiny arms also never get old.
5. If you cosplay/ ever got the chance to cosplay, which character would you be?
I have cosplayed quite a bit!
Some characters I have cosplayed: Jill Valentine, Mello, L Lawliet, Teru Mikami (sensing a theme here?), Lithuania, Doctor Doom, various zombies, Sole Survivor from Fallout 4.
Characters I’d like to cosplay: Emperor Hotohori, full COG armor soldier from Gears of War, Caboose from Red vs Blue (my sister would be Donut to match), some high fantasy gown with a corset and/or custom armor, Rogue from X-MEN in her 90s FOX cartoon outfit, some Marvel or Supernatural cosplay that would work with my body type and super long hair (I don’t like to be femme versions of characters unless I can wear a wig to match their hairstyle, at least,) full body painted Weeping Angel from Doctor Who so I could stand down convention hallways creeping people out.
Making the costume from scratch is part of the fun, trying to be painfully accurate to everything. When I cosplay I am wearing my art!
6. One of your bad habits?
Shutting down my lines of contact when I’m feeling overwhelmed. I sometimes ignore my social media, text messages, emails, etc and feel increasingly twitchier each hour because I normally respond to such things immediately.
7. A song that always makes you feel nostalgic?
The Ghostbusters theme. I used to go to a roller skating rink that always played it at a certain time and turned on strobe lights and a disco ball only for that. I looked forward to it every time!
“Darkness” by Darren Hayes also reminds me of the days my boyfriend and I went driving/listening to music at night, and would go swing on the swings barefoot at a school playground at 3 am. It makes me remember raindrops on the soles of my feet and the feel of flying in the dark, laughing along with somebody you love.
8. How did you choose your tumblr URL?
Same screenname I’ve had online for 15+ years.
9. Is love at first sight a real thing? What about true love/ soulmates?
I don’t believe in love at first sight. Fascination, attraction, yes, but you have to know a person to love them. Until you do, you just love how they SEEM to you. Soulmates seems too close to destiny -- I’m in control of my path, there is no inevitable direction I’m going to go or predetermined person I’ll be with. As for true love...if you interpret it like soulmates, then no, I don’t believe in it. I do believe that an unconditional, accepting comfort with another person and happiness from being near them is what love truly is. I’m asexual, though, so maybe my view isn’t standard on this stuff because sexual attraction doesn’t factor in at ALL for me...
10. The book/ poem/ fic that changed your life?
I couldn’t single out just one. I have been a voracious reader since childhood. Books in general have enriched my life so, so much. I you want an intriguing book that’ll make you think, check out “Looking for Carroll Beckwith.” It caught my eye at the library because the cover had no text, just a painting.
11. What is the one piece of advice that you think everyone should hear?
Would you say the things you think to yourself to somebody on the street? Would you say them to a friend? No? Treat yourself as kindly as you would treat somebody else.
Er, I already made up 11 questions and tagged 11 people last time, so I’m not going to do it again this time. Hope that’s okay. XD
