If anyone is wondering how things are going for Desmond in Faerun, he got sidetracked finding the tea on the druid 'leader' and got in a middle of some kind of Hanzel and Grethel BS in the swamp. Got into a long ass fight because he didn't want to kill the controlled people so that means no magic or ranged attack or throws for the final strike (and having to calculate the damages just to be sure).
Then we beat the crap out of the hag but she begged mercy from Shadowheart and Shadowheart agreed only if the hag leaves both the +1 item and the woman. (Desmond might be rethinking letting Shadowheart be the unofficial second in command)
Oh and Desmond gave a grieving woman a wand that resurrected her husband into a zombie because he was too surprised when her husband was resurrected into a zombie in the first place.
Gale and Karlach seemed to approve of his actions so maybe there is hope for the zombified husband in Baldur's Gate???
(I don't know what happened but we returned to the mind controlled masked people but one of them is missing. We did take off their masks and this time they didn't die so I guess the masks had to be taken off after the hag died. And no, we have not gotten to the goblin's camp at all.)

Hey, wanna read me defending myself in my plans to multiclass Desmond into a Rogue-Thief/Ranger-Gloom Stalker?
The thing about trying to play as Desmond in Baldur's Gate is that I'm forcing the narrative to work around my need to min-max in terms of classes allocation.
Narrative choices are easy because Desmond's more on the side of neutral good, sliding into true neutral with the whole 'stab them when it's clear they killed an innocent' guideline.
But the classes though... the thing about Assassins in Assassin's Creed is that they're not exactly a 1:1 of the Assassin subclass.
So my reasoning for the plan to multiclass Desmond into Rogue-Thief (4)/Ranger-Gloom Stalker(5) is...
Thief subclass is chosen because [Fast Hands] means +1 bonus action which would make it easier for Desmond to hide and/or dash/disengage. Hiding is the best way to get the Sneak Attack actions. [Second-Story Work] means less falling damage which could made into our narrative workaround for Leaps of Faith. Assassin subclass was passed over because Thief has more utility and Assassin is more combat oriented with focus on attacking targets that have not taken a turn yet. This could, narratively, be more or less the equivalent to the Hidden Blade's oneshot kills but it doesn't work because early level Rogue has a hard time oneshoting enemies at low level. Rogue will be leveled up to Lv4 so Desmond can get another Feat (Ability Improvement: Dex +2 to up it to 20)
Gloom Stalker Ranger is chosen because Favoured Enemy [Bounty Hunter] gives Investigation Proficiency and Natural Explorer [Urban Tracker] gives Sleight of Hand Proficiency. Narratively, Urban Tracker goes well with Desmond's background and his Bleeds are experts in the urban areas of their time. Anything that gives more Investigation Proficiency is good as part of Eagle Vision. Lv 2 will let us get Speak with Animals and Enhance Leap (Enhance Leap is pretty much necessary since Str is needed for jumping but Str is a dump stat for Rogues so yeah, we'll have Desmond cheat for this one). Lv 4 will let Desmond get Gloom Stalker subclass and automatically get Disguise Self which means we can put the Disguise Self helmet (I forgot the name) back to camp ([Dread Ambusher] is also more consistent than the Assassin subclass unique skills)
The reason why we're going for up to Lv 5 Gloom Stalker is that Desmond can get an Extra Attack + Misty Step at Lv 5 (and he can get Past without Trace as well for extra stealth)
This does leave 3 more levels to allocate and we have some options:
Rogue up to Lv 7 so Desmond can get Uncanny Dodge + Evasion and an additional 1d6 for Sneak Attack damage.
Ranger up to Lv8 so Desmond can get another feat (probably Dungeon Delver for Advantage on Perception and Saving Throws to avoid/resist traps or Savage Attacker if Desmond can now safely melee) and can get Land's Stride so he won't be slowed down by difficult terrain.
Rogue up to Lv 5 for Uncanny Dodge and an additional 1d6 for Sneak Attack damage + Ranger up to Lv 7 for an additional Lv2 Spell Slot.
Or... we go and lean into Desmond being a bartender and have him multiclass up to Lv3 Bard (or Lv2 Bard with Lv5 Rogue + Lv5 Ranger) so he can have more spells (probably Detect Thoughts and maybe something like Feather Fall? idk) or we go for Lv3 Druid (Wild Shape) as a reference to Tyranny of Washington DLC (which does have wolf and bear in the Circle of the Moon)

Oh god I’m sorry I’ve been obsessed with Yu-gi-oh! lately but the thought wouldn’t leave me alone, so consider: Desmond as Yugi and Altair (or any one of his ancestors, really) as the Spirit of the Puzzle
When you think about it, the Bleeding Effect is kinda like a possession of some kind, only the subject is being possessed by the memories he is watching and these possessions don’t truly have a ‘conscience’ of their own.
So, we can do this in canon and make the memory of Altaïr touching the Apple be the trigger that gave Altaïr a conscience in Desmond’s mind.
Or so that’s what Shaun theorized after he learned of Desmond’s split personality when Lucy got Desmond out and they went to the Rome hideout.
But…
That’s not what happens.
Because Altaïr doesn’t just have a separate conscience to Desmond.
He remembers everything.
Up to his death.
And the trigger was touching the Apple, yes…
But it only made Altaïr see Desmond as he watched Altaïr’s memories.
And it wasn’t the Altaïr of 1191 that saw Desmond.
No.
It was the old lonely man taking his final breath in a dark empty library underneath the only place he ever called his home.
He felt Desmond’s warmth and, as his eyes slowly closed, he felt his very soul escape his body.
And find comfort inside Desmond.
Everyone might think Desmond’s Bleeding Effect was unique thanks to his 100% synchronization rate with Altaïr.
But no.
Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad was dead.
And he had possessed his descendant.
… but it wasn’t like anyone was going to believe them.
And Desmond… didn’t really feel like explaining it to anyone.
Right now, he wasn’t even sure if he could trust the Assassins around him.
Altaïr felt something was off.
Especially about that woman by the name Lucy Stillman.
And between these strangers and the ghost whose memories he watched and felt like his own?
It was clear which one he would trust.

After seeing that chinchilla Desmond ask, it reminded me of my first impression upon encountering the ferox in Ark survival evolved, Genesis part 1. I know it has a cat/fox like face and kind of red panda tail and monkey-ish body but, my first experience with it was in game, as I hadn’t watched the trailer. And I thought it was a mutated chinchilla…
Saying that! A Ferox! Desmond au would be amazing. He’s small and cute, doing cute little hops to beg for treats, and then he’s a 7 foot tall wolf-gorilla thing capable of tearing your head off your body…
I just have a picture of guards angrily breaking into an ancestor’s house (like the Auditore villa at the start of AC2) and finding this cute…thing just sitting on the other side of the door, wagging it’s tail, and then they watch in horror as it suddenly grows, up and up, and up.
And then there’s nothing but screams…

For those unfamiliar with what a Ferox look like, here you go:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Desmond would probably spend quite a lot of time trying to get used to his new body, especially his newly acquired four arms so he’d be a bit of a klutz too. And he’d be super surprised when he first transforms into his other form but also ‘hell yeah!’.
Desmond would just be a fluffy sweet bunny? Fox? Cat? No one knows (and Leonardo is trying to understand what he is) but that doesn’t really matter since Desmond is more or less docile and just likes to eat and cuddle. Not being liked by him would make a person a social pariah XD
So we have an idea of how Desmond could screw up AC2 (also, he can totally protect Monteriggioni by going on a rampage on the papacy army, although this might start a rumor of Monteriggioni having a demon as an attack dog) and Desmond could easily thwart Charles Lee’s plan to burn down Ratonhnhaké:ton’s village by going ham on them either while staying with Kaniehtí:io that day or by transforming and ‘taking care’ of the soldiers before Charles Lee could even hurt Ratonhnhaké:ton.
Now, the most common setup would be for Desmond to be Altaïr’s pet but may I suggest an alternative: Desmond as baby Sef’s pet? Sef found him while he and Darim are playing (maybe they were even able to sneak out of Masyaf) and he brought him back because Desmond doesn’t recognize Sef but he looks a lot like Altaïr so he just makes soft purring sounds as he put all his arms in the air in the universal gesture of ‘pick me up’ and Sef does.
His transformation is kept a secret and Altaïr thinks Desmond might have mutated with the use of a POE. He’s still more or less Sef’s pet even though Desmond likes to follow Altaïr around when Sef isn’t in Masyaf.
So when Swami tried to assassinate Sef in his sleep, Desmond is curled on top of Sef’s chest and he jumped down, staring at Swami.
Swami’s eyes widened as Desmond transformed right in front of him and he let out a scream that gets drowned by Desmond’s roar.
Sef immediately wakes up to see Desmond pinning Swami against the floor and Sef knew that something fishy is certainly going on. Even though Swami is babbling that it was his father who ordered for his death, Sef doesn’t believe him.
First of all: His father wouldn’t order for this death. Of all the things Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad might and might not be, his love for his family will never be questioned.
Second of all: Even if Altaïr wanted him dead, he wouldn’t pick someone like Swami to kill him, that’s insulting. (At this point, both Swami and Desmond just stare at Sef because, yeah, he might be nicer and sweeter than his father but the Ibn-La'Ahad arrogance seems to be hereditary).
“Third of all…” Sef looked at Desmond and grinned, “Shall we get some exercise, Desmond?”
Desmond roared his agreement and…
That day, the conspiracy against Altaïr’s family and allies was thwarted by a large monster. Many of Abbas’ supposed allies squealed like pigs and admitted everything while being pinned down by said monster.
Malik drowned in paperwork that day.

A plot idea that came to me from a song a fan of the game Halo made about the game. There was a line that went ‘they took everything from me, so I’m just getting even.’
Now, the plot that came to me was what if Desmond was never saved from Abstergo? Either because Lucy died/was killed or because Desmond learned of her betrayal to the Assassin’s like Clay did.
So he still lives through the lives of Altair/Ezio/Connor, but through Abstergo’s Animus, so he becomes a bit unhinged.
Abstergo uses him to activate the Grand Temple, because they can’t control the world if the world no longer exists, but Desmond uses the Eye to travel through time to the Renaissance. Because the one thing Desmond always wanted was a loving family. And who had that before the Templar’s destroyed it?
Ezio.
So Desmond plans to absolutely annihilate the Templar’s during the renaissance because he wants at least one of his ancestors to have what he never got to.
Of course, him leaving bodies everywhere gets the attention of the Assassin’s. Once they finally get near enough to Desmond to question him is when he says ‘they took everything from me, so I’m just getting even.’
Naturally that makes the Assassin’s think Templar’s killed Desmond’s family, and he is using his Assassin training for revenge. Of course, Desmond leaving bodies everywhere is getting a lot of attention and spreading panic through Firenze, you can’t just crucify monks and bishops and what not on/in front of churches, no matter how symbolic.
Giovanni doesn’t really know what to do with Desmond, but Maria says it’s quite simple. He just needs a family. Giovanni is reluctant, but Desmond starts staying at the Palazzo. And in short he quickly takes on the role of basically ‘guard dog’ to the Auditore children, stopping Ezio from getting in trouble with the city guards, the other girls from bullying Claudia when Duccio’s unfaithfulness is discovered (and Duccio being 'mysteriously’ beaten and for all intents and purposes neutered) and sitting quietly with Petruccio when he is unwell.
Desmond is never fully 'recovered’ from his time in the Animus, but eventually he is 'ok’ and happy with his new life, regardless of how he has probably screwed up the future.
Any romantic relationships are up to you.

Addition by teecup:
Wanna make it more painful for Desmond?
Make Vidic follow through with his threat and forced Desmond into a coma. This meant that he would be in the Animus 24/7 with his only actual breaks being the times when the Animus overheats (hell, how do we even know that it was actually overheating and it wasn’t just a ploy by Lucy and Vidic to add more ‘evidence’ that Lucy is on Desmond’s side?).
By the time Desmond is taken out of the Grand Temple, he’s weak and he never reached a Synch Nexus with any of his ancestors, meaning he is suffering from severe hallucinations so real he believes he’s talking to his ancestors.
And it’s comforting for him, a prison in his own mind, surrounded by the real monsters who don’t have any problem playing with the lives of other people.
That’s what Templars are to him now.
Monsters.
Unforgivable monsters that must be wiped out from the world.
Because he never reached a Synch Nexus with any of his ancestors, his Bleeding Effects are ghosts of their memories, focusing on the most important memories Desmond relived.
Memories of pain and betrayal.
Memories of pain.
And he embraced those memories. He embraced the dark whispers of his Bleed.
Because he had nothing else.
So when he finally got transported to Renaissance Italy…
When he lost his Bleeds…
When he lost those whispers…
It truly felt like the Templars had taken everything from him.
Other unorganized notes:
If you really want Desmond to get ‘even’, Desmond won’t just kill them. He’ll take everything first. Drag their names into the mud. Steal their riches. Tell any scandal that will destroy their family. Only when they have lost everything will Desmond come for their life and, at that point, it would be a mercy.
Of course, all these scandals and attacks on the rich and powerful will create paranoia for everyone in power.
The common folks would love him though. They would see him as an angel of justice and vengeance. Perhaps the keeper of balance even.
Only the Assassins and Templars would know that his tactics were too… Assassin-like to be anything but that.
Also, I’m kinda hc-ing that Desmond started killing the Templars maybe 2 to 3 years before the Auditore execution so he would have more time to make them ‘pay’.
I think Giovanni and Maria would try to help him because they can see just how broken he is. I honestly think Maria would try to help but would put him somewhere not in the Palazzo as first, just to be sure he’s not a danger to anyone. Once she’s sure he’s docile unless there’s a Templar around, she would be the one to introduce him to her children and he gets his own room in the Palazzo.
Giovanni, on the other hand, is required to inform Lorenzo about Desmond and Lorenzo would be the one to suggest they make use of Desmond. To point him at the right direction. Because Lorenzo is known as the il Magnifico for a reason. This isn’t him being evil, this is him using everything he can at his disposal.
This, of course, only served to irk Desmond and he appeared on Lorenzo one night when Giovanni is away and placed a knife by his throat. He placed a paper that lists down every scandal that he knew thanks to Ezio’s memories or the things he found out when he started living in Florence and tells him that the only reason why he hasn’t destroyed the Medici is because Giovanni is loyal to him. “The moment you turn your back to the Auditores… the moment you make the Auditore do something they wouldn’t want to do… that is the day I will burn your flags. Until that day comes… you ignore me and I ignore you. If you don’t…” presses the knife deeper without breaking skin “I’ve been alone for a long time. I can survive Giovanni’s wrath after the untimely death of the Medici.”
From there on, Lorenzo told Giovanni that Desmond needs to focus on healing before he can be of ‘use’.
As for possible pairings:
I think in this setup, Desmond should focus on healing instead of having any romantic overture. If he was to have any romantic partner, I’m afraid it would be more on the unhealthy side with a heavy dose of clinginess and his partner would have to also act as both his minder and his therapist. That can be too much for a lot of people.
On the other hand, the only romantic pairing I think that could work in this setup would be one where Desmond would be on equal footing with them. Perhaps someone that is not necessarily part of the Auditore house because of his overprotectiveness of them would make having an equal footing with them a bit… hard.
On the top of my head, I’m actually thinking La Volpe would be a good fit in this scenario. They’re both morally gray and La Volpe would not shy away from the things Desmond had done. Hell, he probably enjoyed hearing about the latest scandal and watching these rich people go down.
Paola would also be a good candidate but I think it would be better if she was in a more ‘therapist’ role in this setup. Someone who can get Desmond to talk, maybe not about everything, but just… a friend who won’t judge him.
Crazy idea: Bartolomeo d'Alviano, maybe? His battle-thirst craziness wouldn’t exactly pair well with Desmond’s Assassin-brand of craziness but their both off their rockers in more ways than one which would be like the loud blind leading the quiet blind but… it would be a glorious trainwreck. (We can even add in Pantasilea Baglioni as their beard or make it a threesome between the three of them. Regardless if she’s part of the pairing or not, she acts as the logic to Bartolomeo’s and Desmond’s ‘stab first, ask question later if they’re still alive’ approach to things)

Hi there!! I haven’t been in reading ac fic for a few months (I got very burned out, and I had low spoons and the only thing my brain could concentrate on was my fav movie, Tron: Legacy, so I watched that 20 times and then went through the Entire Ao3 Tag, front to back, back to front, I think I’ve read all of it at this point), but!! Today I started to slowly get caught up on your fics. I am now up to date on Eagle of Alamut and absolutely I am in love with it so so so much. I just. Ugh. Everything about it is so good. (I also love that you have it tagged as probably not a slow burn and it’s 60k+ and they haven’t met yet lmao. It’s a slow burn, but not because they are dancing around each other but cause they haven’t met yet lmaoooo).
I then read The Assassin, The Ghost, and The Heir, which was. Really good lol. I haven’t played GoT yet (I want to tho), and so I think the characters where a bit hard to follow for me personally, but I love all the moments with Darim and Desmond, and I loved Darim’s pov a lot.
And I’m probably gonna put Beloved Moon on my kindle to read, tomorrow?? Or maybe tonight who knows, I am in a reading mood, and my insomnia has been acting up so I’d probably have an update for you at like. 3 am lmao. (You might not remember me, but I was that anon who read The King, and the entirety of fiat mihi in one day, back before it had Altair’s pov chapter. So yeah. I read Fast. Oof).
I am, right now tho, rereading The Second cause it’s one of my all time favorite fics ever. And then I might reread Project Eurydice, cause those are also some of my favorites of all time, lol. A lot of your fics are on my favorites list 😅🥰
Ahhh, anyway, all this to say thank you for making such amazing fics!! I love them all so much, my favorite trope is time travel fix it, and you always do it so well <3 <3 <3 I’m also just giddy that my dumb adhd brain is letting me read AC fic again, and I guess I wanted to share, oof. Sorry for rambling at you, and I hope your week goes well!! 🖤🖤🖤
I’m glad you’re feeling better and please focus on your health first. My fics will always be there for you whenever you feel it. :)
Oh man, the ‘slow burn’ in Eagle of Alamut. Yeeeeaahhh… I’ve had comments about how it should count as a slow burn already. XD
I still remember I read one that was like: ‘this is hardcore slow burn, other slow burns wish they were this slow, and slow burn goals’ and I’m like “It’s… I mean… it’s not like I’m sure yet just how fast and how hard Altaïr is gonna fall in this one but… uuuhhh…”
I promise, if it takes a while for Altaïr to fall, I’ll change the tag to “holy shit it is slow burn i’m so sorry” XD
(But, teecup, when will Altaïr appear?) Uuuhhh… I might… be planning to do it… in a specific special date? Maaayybbeeee???
I’m glad you enjoyed The Assassin, The Ghost, and The Heir, I really enjoyed writing Darim’s POV and his interactions with Desmond (if you can, you should play GoT. It’s a really good game… although I don’t have any leg to stand on with my opinion since I grew up watching Kurosawa Akira films so the bias is definitely there. Even the PS4 version is so beautiful. If you can’t though, watching let’s play with or without comments is an alternative you can look into :) It’s very old timey samurai movie vibe).
Oh man, then I hope you enjoy quickly reading all the fics you haven’t read yet, hahahaha.
Aaawww, I’m so happy to read that and it always makes me smile knowing you guys reread the fics I write. The Second is probably one of my personal favorite Yew Branches but that’s mainly because it’s the first one I wrote and I had so much fun writing Desmond getting such a loving family. (Also, I’m a sucker for Darim and Desmond interactions of any kind XD)
Oh, man. Project Eurydice. Ngl, Old Master is still one of my favs mainly because it’s a 50k fic all posted in one chapter and it’s the only fic that AO3 was like “hey, dude, I know you’re trying to update but I can’t, there’s too much, you’ll be seeing this error-try again later page a lot, sorry, man”. It’s the main reason why any fics that exceed 30k get the multichapter fic treatment. (sometimes, I do still think if it should be better if I edit it to be multichaptered instead). I had hoped to write a new fic set on that one around Ratonhnhaké:ton’s birthday but April was… well… March and April were not cooperating with me this year. Maybe some other time. We’ll see XD
Feel free to ramble all you want here in my ask box or even in AO3. I always try to answer them with a bit of a ramble of my own XD
