Dear Sevillistas,

As a fellow fan of the club, I find it necessary to apologize for my sporadic appearances on your dashboard. As the sole bearer of the sevillacf mantle, it is a blessing and an honor to carry its name. I have been negligent of my duties as keeper of all things Sevilla. So first, we shall get the current affairs out of the way before I practice the inconsequential self-flagellation that is apologizing to any corner of the internet. 

The men’s team finished in fourth place in La Liga, guaranteeing them a spot in next year’s edition of the Champions League. Rafa Mir netted 11 goals across all competitions and was looking mighty fine while doing it. Vice captain Ivan Rakitic lead the assist chart with 6 this campaign. Next season will be filled with ups and downs so I’ve been told to relay by the La Liga Lords who control information pertaining to the club. Notable additions to the club were the Argentine Papu Gomez and Mexico’s own Tecatito. They are both a joy to watch and Gomez’s novelty never got lost on me. That could be my bias, of course, I am but words on a blog on a site on a screen exorcising the demons of sevillafc’s past. 

Sevilla Femenino finished 8th in Primera División Femenina. Elisa del Estal finished with 9 goals and Débora Garcia topped the assist chart with 4. On the horizon is incremental improvement for the output of the team basically me trying to find the smartest way to say, we need goals to be better. This comes from my lack of due diligence which I can only ask for your forgiveness for. Inma Gabarro’s leadership was a lighthouse in the doom and gloom that is a long season of top flight sport. Your body is on the line for pride and spectacle and every inch (“centimeter”) you give is a mile (or kilometer if you’re wrong) further you will have to run. It is fascinating to watch. Prognosis: runny defense. The cure is to throw money at it like all the other franchises do! 

Though I make it a point to keep journalistic integrity, I cannot help but have my heart bleed Sevilla red. This page will have a certain Sevillistic bias and to all other reporters who would have a problem with it, you will be met with the swiftest of angry thoughts directed at you.

I would be remiss to not include a wish for health and well being to any who glaze their eyes over this post. We live in very, very troubling times. As all times have seem to become in this perilous world. I am angry. I am indignant. I am scared. Sometimes, though I have a million and one interviews to drown myself in, I feel helpless. I feel as if the world is hurtling towards me like a Jessica Martinez rocket headed dead center for me (the keeper in this metaphor). All shots do not go in the net as we know. We can don the gloves of resistance and parry its vision of who and what we’re meant to be out for a corner. It is a team effort comma le jeu beau. Collective action changes the momentum of the game of life. We, as fans, as human beings, as individuals, are better together. No longer shall our suffering be done alone. We can and will overcome the atomization that we live under. Not through buying into vague platitudes which seek only to touch up the rougher edges of our lives but instead to dig deeper and hold on to the beautiful differences that make us all a bit odd and a bit the same. We are oddballs together, you and I. You and me and the birds and the bees! Reaching out to people is reflexive, it forges that bond a little tighter. You recognize some of the emptiness in you and what do you know, it’s people shaped! There are lot of things that the shadows of secrecy makes taboo. Suffering shouldn’t be something that we tuck away. I am a debtor! I am loony! I am tired of clinging from figurehead to figurehead that tries to offer me hope at a price. It disgusts me. I believe that we are worth more than that. I have the power to change the world within me because I recognize in you the desire to make it better. Disillusionment is widespread and so are the cobwebs that come with it. I am but a humble beat reporter for sevillacf. I believe in crowds. Have you ever heard la Bombonera de Nervión sing as one? Crowds are a collective form of art. We are the sum of our parts and we are beautiful.

Monterrey.- Rayados permanece como superlíder e invicto en el Clausura 2024 tras vencer esta noche 3-0 a los Pumas, con tantos de Brandon Vázquez, Sergio Canales y Gerardo Arteaga

Los Rayados doblegaron a la UNAM para llegar a 22 puntos y treparse al liderato por mejor diferencia de goles que Cruz Azul.

Tras un primer tiempo sin anotaciones, el equipo de Fernando Ortiz encontró el camino del gol y de la victoria de la mano del "Supermán" Vázquez, además de Canales, quien fue el "orquestador" en el medio campo.

EL PARTIDO

Fernando Ortiz mandó algunas rotaciones, entre los que incluyeron Jesús "Tecatito" Corona como titular.

El "Tano" también apostó por Sergio Canales como centrocampista, además del doble "9" con Germán Berterame y Brandon Vázquez.

Fueron estos jugadores quienes tuvieron las oportunidades más claras.

A los 18', Maxi Meza envió un balón filtrado hacia Brandon, quien definió ante la salida del arquero Julio González, pero el defensor Lisandro Magallán salvó sobre la línea.

Berterame, quien interesa al Portland Timbers de la MLS, tuvo un tiro que quedó en las manos de González y un cabezazo que salió muy desviado y por encima de la meta de la UNAM.

Pumas también generó algunas de peligro, principalmente con César "Chino" Huerta por el sector izquierdo, además de Eduardo Salvio.

El "Toto" se quedó cerca de marcar en un tiro bombeado que intentó sorprender a Esteban Andrada. Después en un centro que desvió el portero rayado con la yema de los dedos, evitando el cabezazo de Salvio.

Para el segundo tiempo, el Monterrey marcó el 1-0 con una media vuelta de Brandon Vázquez, luego de recibir un pase por el lado izquierdo.

El mexicoamericano llegó a cinco goles en el torneo, aumentando su productividad y efectividad frente al marco.

Pumas buscó el gol del empate, pero no encontró los caminos pese a los cambios.

"Tano" Ortiz ajustó un poco y envió a la cancha a Luis Romo y Gerardo Arteaga, además de Alfonso González y Rodrigo Aguirre.

Al 82', Sergio Canales condujo el balón hacia linderos del área y le pegó de media distancia, con pierna derecha y de manera rasa, para el 2-0.

Canales festejó efusivamente con la afición y hasta se abrazó con un elemento de Fuerza Civil que resguardaba el perímetro de la cancha.

Cinco minutos después, Monterrey sentenció la goleada con anotación de Arteaga, quien recibió en el área un pase de la derecha de Gallardo, para recortar a Lisandro Magallán y doblegar a González.

Rayados deberá viajar el jueves a Cincinnati para medirse al equipo de la MLS, en la ida de los Octavos de Final de la Concachampions.

Este domingo, con la victoria de Atlas sobre los Tigres de la UANL, terminó la jornada del fin de semana en la Liga MX, con el juego entre Pachuca y Santos Laguna todavía pendiente.

Con ocho partidos disputado hasta el momento la tabla general no sufrió grandes modificaciones en la parte alta, donde el sorprendente Atlético de San Luis continua de líder a pesar de haber caído este domingo ante los Pumas en el Estadio Olímpico Universitario.

La jornada empezó con el empate entre Cruz Azul y Mazatlán, para dar paso a la victoria de Xolos frente a los Diablos Rojos de Toluca de Nacho Ambriz, los cañoneros se alejan del fondo de la tabla mientras que los celestes se mantienen en la penúltima posición del campeonato.

El sábado Monterrey venció a León con el regreso del "Tecatito" Corona, además de la goleada de América sobre la Chivas en la edición número 250 del Clásico Nacional, azulcremas y rayados se ubican en la parte alta de la tabla tras estos resultados.

Con la derrota Tigres tendrá que esperar una semana más para ser super líder, dependiendo del resultado entre San Luis y Mazatlán del próximo viernes, Juárez FC, que es sublider del campeonato, empató ante Necaxa.

Así quedó la tabla general a falta de un partido.
