Summary: Chris has Duncan and the reader pretend to be a couple for rating, which doesn’t go over well for either of them.
—————————————————————————————————
It was good for ratings.
That was all Chris kept saying.
After the first few episodes of the show aired, the fans went nuts but not for what the studio had been prepared for. Instead of the crazy stunts or nutty challenges, they were only talking about one thing.
You.
Well, you and another one of the contestants, Duncan.
They seemed to think that you had some sort of tension between you, and now at this point, it had evolved something more. There were tons of fantheories online about how the two of you were in a relationship and the writers were keeping it a secret.
You were pretty sure you’d even heard something about the two of you being married, which certainly wasn’t the case.
In reality, Duncan was just some guy you’d been forced to be around for the show, a guy that you didn’t even really like all that much.
How could you? He was ridiculous, strutting around here like he was the hottest thing since sliced bread, which he definitely wasn’t, just for the record. Even if he was physically attractive, an ego like that really took it down, at least for you.
Plenty of other people on the island seemed to be into him, but you had no issue with counting yourself out of that.
Not that Chris McClean wanted to hear that.
As soon as the news of the popular buzz reached him, he jumped at the opportunity to increase the views. More people watching meant more money in his pocket, which he was all about.
That meant that whatever would get the most people to tune in, he would do happily, even if that meant making you do something you didn’t want to. That was, pretty much, the entire plot of the show anyway.
He got to do whatever he wanted, and you couldn’t really say no, it was in your contract.
So, when he decided that you and Duncan would play happy couple for a few episodes to see how the fans responded, you didn’t get much of a choice in the matter.
All you could do was smile and nod, even if you’d rather clean up the confessional booth with a toothbrush than to that.
If you were lucky, the fanbase would see right through it and you’d be able to just go back to trying to win like you’d been doing all this time. Besides, Chris did have one good point that you couldn’t argue with.
If they liked it, the two of you would surely be safe for most of the competition, if not all the way through. For now, you had to admit that doing what would make you most popular was the best move.
It would secure your spot here for a while, which was all you could ask for if you wanted to win.
Not that it was going to be easy to grin and bear it through this whole thing because you could hardly be around Duncan without wanting to be physically sick. All he wanted to do was flaunt his stupid haircut and his biceps, neither of which were as impressive as he thought they were.
...and that didn’t even come close to how dull and self involved his stories tended to be.
You’d just had to find a way to be okay with that though because unfortunately for you, it seemed like the two of you were going to be spending a lot of time together, no matter how you felt about him.
It couldn’t be that bad, right?
He was a pain in the ass, and you weren’t going to pretend that he wasn’t but if this was all it took to have a better shot at winning this stupid gameshow, you weren’t going to risk ruining it because he had an attitude.
Not having to deal with him wouldn’t be worth wasting this opportunity, nothing would be worth $1,000,000. If you had to smooch all over him to get it, so be it.
You just had to keep your eye on the prize, and eventually, it would pay off.
At least, in theory.
You’d only known about this little arrangement for a few hours, and he was already trying to make you regret it. There was no way in the world he was going to make this easy on you.
“Would you please stop doing that?” you grumbled, shooting him a look out of the corner of your eye. Duncan had been bumping your foot with his own off and on for the past hour and it was really getting old.
You weren’t in the mood.
You had decided to spend your night around the fire, content to let it warm and relax you after a long day of ridiculous challenges, but Duncan wouldn’t leave you be. Ever since you sat down, he’d been right there.
It was really starting to get on your last nerve.
“Come on, we’re supposed to be a couple now, shouldn’t you at least be able to look at me?” he teased, fully aware that you weren’t his biggest fan. He was really getting to you, and he knew it.
That was all the fuel he needed to agree to Chris’ little scheme. He loved getting under people’s skin, and if he could spend the next few weeks driving you out of your mind, why wouldn't he?
It was too good to pass up.
“Shouldn’t you try to not be so irritating?” you countered, moving your foot further out of his reach as he tried his best to keep at his pestering, a small smirk on his face. It was irritating, of course, but you decided to ignore him.
That was all you could do, not that it was working in the least. The more he poked and prodded, the more of a rise he was getting out of you, and you could both see it, which was exactly why he kept at it.
This was fun for him.
“You can’t say that, you love me” he hummed, wiggling his brows at you, fiddling with the jewelry there absently as he waited for you to reply but didn’t bother. You were far too busy imagining ripping it out to come up with a clever comeback.
He was just so frustrating.
“I certainly don’t, I’m here for one thing. To win” you decided, your words little more than a whisper under your breath as you caught sight of one of those stupid cameras, likely looking for some hot content to spread all over the internet.
You just couldn’t get away from them, because they wanted all the content they could get. That meant you couldn’t sit here letting it be obvious that you couldn’t stand him, not if you wanted to stay here.
“Look at that, another thing we have in common” Duncan allowed, reaching out to take your hand in his own as he caught sight of the camera at around the same time you did. You’d gone through this enough times to know what to do.
At the end of the day, this was a television show and you just had to make it look good.
“We have a lot in common, huh?” you tried, doing your best to give him a dreamy sort of stare as you fiddled with his fingers.
The whole act made you want to be sick, and you found it hard to believe that any audience would ever believe it. You knew it wasn’t real, and Duncan knew it wasn’t real but how was it possible they were so blind?
“Course we do, darling” he winked, that award winning smile doing little more for you than any other, but it was what he did afterwards that really shocked you.
Without a second thought, Duncan pulled you into his side.
It was hardly what you’d been expecting from him but it shouldn’t have been that big of a deal, right? After all, the two of you were supposed to be a couple and he was just doing what he needed to do so that they would believe it.
...but it didn’t feel right?
For whatever reason, it made you really uncomfortable to be this close to him under such strange circumstances, mostly because it was too real now. This wasn’t just a game like it was supposed to be.
You liked him, and you hated it.
It made you feel like shit, because it was a joke. This wasn’t real, and you both knew it, so it wasn’t fair for you to have any kind of feelings for him, and his arm around your shoulder only proved to make you feel worse.
This wasn’t fun anymore.
“Would you stop?” you huffed, wiggling away from him as casually as you could, though it took a much more aggressive turn than you meant for. You were just a little preoccupied with the way your stomach was churning right now.
It just didn’t feel right doing this right now.
“You looked cold, I was trying to be nice” Duncan grumbled back, really confused as to why you were upset in the first place. You still thought this was all an act, that he was playing you to get what he wanted but that wasn’t really the case.
He was just trying to be sweet.
Though, he wasn’t exactly good at doing this whole thing in the first place. It wasn’t shocking that he would go about it all wrong.
“Well don’t, if I get cold, I’ll find a jacket or something” you sighed, standing up with a huff, and heading off toward your cabin without any care for what else could possibly go wrong today.
You didn’t mean for it to come off harsh or aggressive as it did buy you were just so frustrated. This was a lot harder than you thought it would be and you weren’t even sure why.
You just didn’t like it.
In your huff, you forgot about the cameras for a moment and made a complete fool out of yourself and Duncan, but he didn’t care about that either. Now that you were clearly upset, nothing else mattered.
Something was wrong.
“Would you come back here? What are you doing?” he rumbled, calling out to you without a care in the world for the camera or the other campers who were scattered around casually.
All he cared about right now was getting a hold of you so that you could finally calm down and tell him what’s going on.
You had been all for this whole phony relationship thing, but now you were made at him.
It didn’t make any sense.
“I don’t want to do this anymore, it’s weird” you shot back, barely glancing back at him as you marched off. You had no idea what was going on but or what this would mean for your spot on the show, but you didn’t care.
It didn’t matter if you lost or not, not anymore. Anything would be better than having to sit through this a second longer.
“Why is it weird?” Duncan questioned, folding his arms across his chest as you finally stopped, your back still to him as you waited. You wanted more than anything to explain to him but it wouldn’t make any difference.
He didn’t care about you like you cared about him, and nothing was going to change that. Besides, you didn’t even really understand how you’d gotten here in the first place, with him, at least.
You just didn’t understand.
“Because I like you, it’s annoying” you grumbled, kind of hoping he didn’t hear. Though, you wouldn’t have been so lucky. Duncan was never going to let you get out of the woods so easily.
Not ever, and certainly not with something like that.
“You’re annoying” he countered, closing the space between you with a small smirk on his face. Once again, he was being a jerk, which didn’t surprise you but what did was the way he looked at you.
It was a soft look, the kind of look you never imagined seeing from Duncan, especially not after getting ripped on, again. He just couldn't help himself, the two of you had never really had a normal relationship.
This was just what you did.
“I’m annoying? You’re annoying” you countered, ignoring the way your skin heated up as you stood under his burning gaze. He just wouldn’t let you off the hook, no matter how much you wished he would.
He was still having fun with you.
“Maybe, but at least I’m in good company” he grinned, forcing an eye roll from you before you could even think of a comeback.
You hated being tongue tied, something he knew perfectly well, which was why he had no problem doing this little back and forth with you. The truth was Duncan liked you too, and getting you to admit it was the best thing he could have done today.
This was much better than some stupid act for tv.
...And as it would turn out, the fans liked this relationship that much better because the ratings were incredible after they saw that.

Jealousy

Duncan x Plus size!reader
Word Count: 1647 words

Summary: Duncan’s gf getting upset over Courtney so she flirts with someone else to make him jealous
——————————————————————————————————
Inviting you to participate in Total Drama Island a few weeks into the show had been Chris' idea.
He thought that it would be an interesting turn of events after seeing all the obvious chemistry between Duncan and Courtney. After all, what could be better for ratings than relationship drama.
Though, now that you were here, you had really started to rethink agreeing to this.
Everything had been on edge pending your arrival, mostly due to the fact that they weren’t sure what the surprise Chris had planned was. Though, when you stepped off the boat onto the deck, the jitters faded...for the most part.
The only person who even looked remotely excited was Duncan, your loving boyfriend who you’d missed dearly since he’d left to film this show in the first place.
“Oh hell yes!” he grinned, making his way over to your side as soon as he realized what was going on. This had to have been some kind of joke or maybe Chef had slipped something into his lunch today.
However, when he actually reached out to wrap his arms around you, all thoughts of strange acid trips faded away to just holding you against him. It had been way too long since he’d been anywhere near someone he could remotely tolerate, and it was nice.
You were his lady, after all.
“Hi baby, you miss me?” you smiled, laughing as he twirled you side to side in his arms, just trying to make peace with the fact that this was reality. He had been dreaming about this since he’d gotten on the boat, and it was really solid to get to see you.
It was nice.
Though, the two of you couldn’t hang out on the dock all day. You had come here for a reason, after all and you couldn’t just ignore that in favor of never leaving Duncan’s side.
As much as you wanted to.
“Of course I missed you. C’mon, I have some people you should meet” he suggested, taking your hand in his own before using that as leverage to yank you toward the rest of the cast.
Not that he got very far before Chris stopped you both.
“Not so fast you two. I think that’s my job” he cheesed, showing off his fake television host persona so aggressively that it nearly snapped your neck. It didn’t match anything of the man you’d spoken to over the phone to start this whole thing in motion.
Still, you did as he suggested, stopping in your tracks to let him do his thing.
“Campers, this is your special surprise...though it’s more of a surprise for Duncan than anything” he laughed, stopping for dramatic effect before continuing. “This is Y/N, Duncan’s girlfriend”
Everyone had put that together by now, but that didn’t stop the chorus of gasps and ‘booyah’s that came from the crowd in front of you. The girls were obviously sizing you up, while the boys were mouthing congratulations to their buddy.
...This was going to be fun.
Duncan'd had plenty of time to get established with these people in the past week or so, but all you knew about them was what you’d seen when the episodes go live every day and that wasn’t saying much.
You had made it a rule to not believe anything you saw until it was with your own two eyes. It was much simpler that way, and let you not have any bias from the jump.
However, that rule kind of disintegrated when you found yourself talking about Courtney.
You weren’t stupid, you had seen the obvious connection between the two of them. It usually wouldn’t have bothered you, of course, because you weren’t jealous in nature and you knew that Duncan couldn’t have been more in love with you.
Still, you couldn’t help yourself in this situation.
You had been at home missing him all this time while he was living it up on some island with some wannabe camp counselor. Anyone in their right mind would have been upset and you wouldn’t apologize for that.
Even though you simply smiled at her as you passed, holding tightly to Duncan’s hand as you did so.
Arguing with her wouldn’t do you any good.
Correction, arguing with her shouldn’t have done you any good. However, that didn’t mean that you were completely helpless to stop whatever it was that was going on between them.
...And there was only one way to do that.
You just had to make Duncan understand what you were feeling, and once he realized how awful it was, he would straighten up real quick. You were sure of it, but having a plan wasn’t enough to fix this.
You actually had to go through with it.
So, you swallowed the nausea building up in the back of your throat at the idea of what you were about to do and smiled. Chris had just told you all about a trust exercise that you would be doing this morning, and everyone got to choose their partner.
Naturally, Duncan assumed that you, his girlfriend, would want to participate with him but instead of meeting him at his side, you bypassed him completely.
Rather than jump into his arms like he’d been expecting, you found your way to Trent’s side.
You two hadn’t really talked in all your time here, but that didn’t matter to you. All you needed was to make a display out of today, and he was going to let you do that.
“Hey Trent, I was thinking that maybe you and I could be partners today” you hummed, smiling at him while also batting your eyelashes at him just for added effect. He looked shocked, as anyone would be at this point.
However, he nodded.
That was the best thing about Trent as far as you were concerned in this moment, because he didn’t think about what you were doing enough to even realize how bad of an idea it was.
...But you could.
You could practically feel Duncan glaring into the back of your head, finding it hard to believe that you were reacting this way. He didn’t get it, but that didn’t change the fact that he shrugged it off and made his way over to Courtney.
Two could play at this game.
Duncan had always told you that he wasn’t jealous, boasting that it wasn’t in his nature but you had never truly tested that theory until now. Though, to be fair, you had never had reason to.
In all the time that you and Duncan had been together, he had never even looked in the direction of another girl but something about Courtney changed that.
She just got to him in a way that no one else did and you hated it.
You weren’t jealous, you just weren’t, but it didn’t matter. All you could really think about was how mad you were over the fact that he didn't even put up a fight over you.
He could just be so frustrating, but that was fine, because you had the perfect partner for this whole thing.
...Or at least, you thought you had.
Everything was going fine until you got to the trust fall portion of the exercise, trying to build up to the final challenge. You closed your eyes and lent back, giving in fully to the process.
However, the second Trent’s hands met your skin, Duncan freaked out.
That just wasn’t cool.
“Hey man! Why don’t you back off?!” he yelled, shoving the scrawny male away from you. The action left you sitting in the sand of the beach but you didn’t care.
Instead, you focused more on the fact that Duncan was now holding Trent down to the ground, content with pummelling his face in for the offense. It was overkill, and everyone knew it, but they also couldn't stop it.
Duncan was, perhaps, the only person here who didn’t have a problem with fist fighting on television.
...But you weren’t going to let that happen.
Maybe it was your fault, you had put this on him after all. Trent didn’t know what he was getting set up for but you did. You knew that Duncan wouldn’t be able to handle it and you’d done it anyway.
In that way, you were definitely to blame.
“Duncan, Stop!” you urged, rushing over to their side to shove the man off. Trent hadn’t even done anything worthy of the shiner he’d have in the morning, not that Duncan cared.
Anything involving him touching you would have been too much.
“Yeah, let’s break it up you two” Chris chimed in, earning an eye roll from you at his late interjection. You all knew he wouldn’t have done anything had it not been for the clear issue it would cause.
Duncan wouldn’t have stopped until they had to cart Trent off to the hospital otherwise.
“Come on, you need to cool down” you urged, knowing that getting him as far away from this situation as possible would be best for everyone. Besides, you two clearly needed to talk.
You should have never done this in the first place. Granted, no one said that Duncan had to go on a punching spree either.
You just needed to clear the air.
Now, Duncan didn’t want to do as you asked. It was clear that no one could have really stopped him from rearranging this poser's facial structure, but it also wasn’t much of a question.
You weren’t asking him to leave and come with you, you were telling him that he needed to, and he was going to listen.
Even Duncan knew well enough to know that you wouldn’t ask twice. He just had to hope that it wasn’t going to be too bad once the two of you were behind closed doors.

Duncan x Plus size!reader
Word Count: 1140 words

Summary: Duncan overhears Heather running her mouth and nearly starts a fight because of it
——————————————————————————————————
Last night at the beach really made you feel better. More specifically, talking to Duncan had really helped you feel better, if for no other reason more than he just helped reassure you that she was wrong.
You were the way that you were, and no amount of her bitching or snide comments would ever change that.
It was only right that you got to live your life as confident and happy as she did, everything else be damned. Perhaps in that regard, being around Duncan helped you let it all go.
Though, that solace only lasted for a few hours before you had to see her again.
Heather, Beth and Lindsey were all sitting on the small porch outside the girls cabin, talking about whatever it was that Heather had in mind. However, all conversation stopped as soon as you made an appearance.
“You’re really wearing that for today’s challenge?” the brunette scoffed, looking you up and down with disgust obvious in her gaze. She was being cruel of course, but you weren’t going to let it get to you.
After all, you had picked this from your bag this morning and if you had thought it looked good prior to this interaction, then that had to ring true even more now.
Still, you looked down at what you were wearing with a curious eye, trying to find anything wrong with the shorts and bikini top you had picked out this morning. It was fine, as far as you could tell.
It covered the intimate parts of your body, while also showing off a tasteful amount of cleavage, tummy, and your legs. More than anything though, you had chosen this set because of the blazing heat.
It was no different than what Heather herself wore almost every single day, but you weren’t about to point that out. Instead, you just waited for her to make her point so that you could continue onto the mess hall for a bit of breakfast before the first event.
“Yeah, I-” you tried, not even getting a word out before she continued with her obvious upset. Something about you just bothered her, and you were starting to think that no matter what you did, she’d find something to criticize.
Heather laughed, “You know this is all on camera? Everyone can see all of...that” she chided, gesturing quite generally to all of your body.
It was a low blow, one that hurt even as you tried to remind yourself that her opinion had no real measure on your worth as a human being. It stung to be so obviously disrespected, but when you opened your mouth to speak, your voice didn’t come out.
Rather, it was a more masculine tone. One that all four of you couldn’t help but recognize after this long in the woods together.
Duncan.
“You wanna run that by me, one time? Because I couldn’t have heard that right” he scoffed, inviting himself into the inner fold of the girls cabin without hesitation. He had just come to offer to walk you to the mess hall, when he was greeted only by the sound of Heather.
It was absolutely ridiculous as far as he was concerned.
However, Heather didn’t even budge.
“I don’t think my conversation is any of your business, D-wad” she hummed, laughing with both girls by her sides at the stupid nickname. As far as she was concerned, he had no right to be here.
Nothing that she did or said to you had anything to do with him, and last she knew, you two didn’t even spend any time together.
Though, that had clearly changed at some point.
Duncan grinned dangerously at the tone in her voice, taking her dismissal as a challenge. He had seen how upset you were yesterday, and while this was the first time he had witnessed her comments, he was going to make sure it was also the last.
“Oh really? From where I’m standing, it looks like you’re running your mouth about my girl” he accused, stepping closer to you in order to wrap his arm loosely around your hips. It was a subtle gesture, but to you, it meant everything.
It showed both you and everyone else that he had your back when you needed him, and there was no way to express how nice it was to know that you weren’t alone in this whole thing.”
Not that Heather felt the same way.
She took Duncan’s allowance as nothing more than something else she could torment you about.
“Oh really? The reject’s a chubby chaser? Interesting” she laughed, not even phased by how angry she was making Duncan. As far as she was concerned, the two of you were fair game because you were different than her.
Heather saw everyone around her as pawns in her little game and you were no different.
Nothing would ever change that.
...And it wasn’t until right now that you realized that.
Heather saw everyone around her as less than her, so of course she found pleasure in putting herself above them. It made her feel better about herself.
“Oh, you’re gonna regret that” Duncan started, his fists clenched at his sides as he thought about what she’d just said. No one had the right to ever say that about another person, but before he could start a fight over it, you stopped him.
“Don’t worry about it Duncan, it’s fine” you assured, letting your hand come to rest gently on his chest in an attempt to calm him.
Fighting her wasn’t worth it because it wouldn’t change the way that she was. “I’ve let your words hurt me for too long Heather, and I won’t be doing that anymore. I hope you have a nice day” you hummed, reaching down to take Duncan’s hand in your own.
“Are you ready for breakfast?” you asked, tugging your favorite punk alongside you down the cabin stairs.
There were just some things that weren’t worth it adn fighting Heather had just made it to the top of that list. Still, there was one thing Duncan just couldn’t get over, no matter how hard he tried.
“Why did you do that? I could have handled it” Duncan huffed, almost upset that he didn’t get to teach that uppity, snot-nosed brat a lesson. She just couldn’t keep her mouth shut and it would have been his pleasure to shut it for her.
“She isn’t worth it, trust me” you shrugged, casually letting your arms swing together between your two bodies as you walked.
It likely wasn’t the end of the conversation, but it was going to have to do for now. In this moment, all you wanted was a nice breakfast with the guy you liked.
It was the best you could do right now.

Summary: Heather makes the reader upset, but Duncan has just the remedy for her feelings.
——————————————————————————————————
Heather was really getting under your skin today.
She had just been really out of line this morning, making comment after comment about everything from your clothes to your body and you were about to lose it.
You didn’t have any patience for it, especially not in the tight enclosed space of the girls cabin so you put on your shoes and left. In fact, you didn’t stop until you found yourself at the edge of the water.
It was vile and polluted but you didn’t care right now. Instead, you sat down on the shore in the cold sand and tried to keep your mind off of her cruel words.
She had no real reason to hate you so much, but that didn’t make it any easier to stop feeling bad about yourself. The words she said hurt, even if most of the time you didn’t believe them.
It was only natural that nasty things would hurt.
Still, you should have assumed that in such a crowded place, you wouldn’t get very far without someone interrupting you. Today, that person just so happened to be Duncan.
He had been carving things into the trees when he saw you walk past, and while he would usually ignore it, you looked pretty upset.
Something had obviously happened.
“Everything okay?” he called, his shoes in the sand alerting you to his
presence even before he could speak. Part of you hoped that if you lied, he would go away, but you knew better.
Duncan liked to pretend that he didn’t care about anything, but that wasn’t the case. If someone was hurting, he would always do anything he could to make it better.
It was just the kind of guy he was.
“Yeah, I just can’t handle Heather sometimes” you shrugged, keeping your eyes forward on the water hoping that he would go away. Though, just as you thought, as soon as the words left your lips, he sat.
He sat right beside you.
“What did she do now?” he wondered, only imagining what it could be.
It was no secret that she was kind of a bitch, but he couldn’t think of anything she could have to talk to you about. After all, you two weren’t even on the same level as far as he was concerned.
However, you knew differently.
“She likes pointing out everything she thinks is wrong with my body, because apparently I’m so heavy she’s worried about the island staying afloat” you allowed, rolling your eyes as you thought it over.
It didn’t even make any sense, something you realized as soon as you said it, but it still stung.
Insults didn’t really have to make sense as long as you knew the person spewing them hated you enough.
“What does she know anyway?” he scoffed, finding the fact that she would even venture to say something like that too low to even discuss. That was the weakest shit he’d ever heard.
...And Duncan knew his fair share about fighting words.
As far as insults went, that was weak but he wasn’t about to tell you that. He could see how much it had hurt you and that meant that right now wasn’t the right time to tell you all about what you could have said back.
Instead, he scooted a little closer to you and reached out to take your hand in his own.
It was a strange gesture coming from him but you didn’t fight it. Duncan was trying his best, and you could tell.
“I’m sorry she said that, that’s not cool” he sighed, his thumb rubbing over your knuckles lightly as he spoke. You two hadn’t really talked much during this whole thing, but Duncan had always thought you were really cool.
In fact, if he could get to know anyone, it would have been you. He just hadn’t had occasion to break the ice with you before today and this was just the thing.
As much as it sucked.
“Thanks, it’s not a big deal, not really” you shrugged, knowing that this wouldn’t be the last Heather had to say. You just had to come to terms with that.
Though, it did feel good to know that Duncan didn’t agree with her like you thought he might. For all you knew, he was just going to laugh at you like Lindsey and Beth had.
You just didn’t know him well enough to say that he wouldn’t.
“Don’t say that. It definitely is” he scoffed, finding it kind of silly that you would downplay it like that. Whatever Heather had going on was her business but she had no right to make you feel bad about yourself over it.
It wasn’t right.
There was silence between you for a second as you thought about what he had said, and everything else that had led to this moment. It was only a few minutes but it was enough time for Duncan to make a decision.
If Heather and the others were so hellbent on making you feel bad about yourself, maybe it was time someone put that much effort into making you feel good.
“I think you’re beautiful”
It shocked both you and Duncan as the words escaped his lips but neither of you motioned to do anything about it. You thought that maybe he was lying to make you feel better.
He couldn't have meant it, right?
You hardly knew anything about each other, and you would hardly describe your outward appearance as beautiful. However, when you looked over at him for some sort of sign he was bluffing, you found nothing.
Not even that smirk you were so used to.
“What did you say?” you asked, unsure if maybe you’d heard him wrong. It must have been a misunderstanding, you just couldn't imagine that he meant it.
Not really.
Though, Duncan had no problem repeating himself.
As far as he was concerned, saying it once was the hard part and now that he had, saying it a million more times was no big deal.
“I said I think you’re beautiful” he repeated, this time letting that smirk slip onto his face as he looked at you, his eyes bouncing from your lips to your eyes and back down.
You and Duncan hardly knew each other, so you knew this was crazy, but in the moment, you didn’t care.
All you cared about right now was the fact that Duncan was the first person on this island to really spent time getting to know you and you liked that he had enough guts to tell you the truth.
It was really cool.
“Thanks, you really think so?” you wondered. You didn’t really want to ask that, but you couldn’t stop yourself. You couldn’t have predicted this happening in a million years, and it boggled your mind.
Not that it was the worst thing that could have happened.
Duncan was incredibly good looking, and you weren’t blind to that. You just found it hard to believe that a guy like him would ever give you a second look.
Though, maybe you were the one who was wrong.
Clearly, Duncan didn’t have any problems just wearing his feelings on his sleeve and you should have assumed he knew what he was feeling. It just didn’t make sense to you.
“Of course I do, who wouldn’t?” he laughed, further closing the space between your two bodies in a way that you didn’t even think was possible beforehand.
You couldn’t even argue with that.
Duncan had this sort of confidence that you would have killed for and normally you were jealous of that...but in this moment, you were benefiting from his self assurance.
If Duncan didn’t question himself, then why did you?
“Well, you aren’t so bad yourself” you hummed, leaning over slightly to press a gentle kiss to his cheek.
It wasn’t much between you, but it was just enough to confirm that there was clearly something there that could be further explored in the days to come.
Duncan was going to make sure of that.

Kiss Me

Duncan x Plus size!reader
Word Count: 1250 words
Warnings: none
Summary: The reader tells a lie about kissing Duncan, but how much of a lie is it when he finds out?
——————————————————————————————————
You hadn’t really meant for the lie to get out.
Though, maybe you should have thought about that before telling Owen about the fictitious kiss you had shared with Duncan.
He wasn’t supposed to believe it, but you may have been really trying to sell it just for the fun of it. It was all on you, and you had to take the blame for that.
...But you hadn’t been expecting this.
“Lay one on me, hotness” Duncan hummed, repeating himself likely due to you just staring at him like a crazy person. You could hardly believe this was real life.
You had just opened the door to the girls cabin and within the enclosed space was Duncan, waiting there like a monster in the dark.
“What are you doing here?” you whisper-yelled, finding it hard to believe that he had snuck into your cabin. Even for him, this was absolutely insane.
What if someone found out he was here?
However, Duncan didn’t seem to share in your alarm. In fact, when you actually took a good look at him, you saw that he was smiling. This was funny to him?
Of course it was.
“I heard a pretty interesting little tidbit in the boys’ cabin earlier and I just wanted to come see you about it” he smirked, knowing that he had you cornered.
You had lied, and he was going to call you on it.
For a moment, you wondered if he was upset with you but that idea was quickly squashed like a beetle beneath his sneaker. Duncan wasn’t mad that you’d lied, he was just trying to embarrass you.
...And you weren’t going to let that happen.
“What did you hear? Anything I might care about?” you wondered, trying your best to recover your poker face in the dim light of the cabin.
You couldn’t let Duncan know that he’d gotten to you with his little comment. If you budged now, you would never hear the end of it.
As far as he knew, you hadn’t done anything so if you could keep that lie going for a little bit longer, you wouldn’t have to worry about it. All you had to do was make sure that you didn’t let Duncan break you.
What he didn’t know wouldn't hurt him.
“Oh, nothing much. Just that you and I may have shared a bit of a moment earlier by the lake” he laughed, grinning at you as wide as he could, as if to prove a point.
It was true, of course, but you didn’t want to admit that.
More than anything, you knew that making sure Duncan never found out where that rumor came from was most important. So, you laughed along with him.
“A moment? I’m pretty sure I would remember that” you giggled, shrugging it off like he was out of his mind. It was easier than anything else could have been, all things considered.
You had no idea what he was talking about, which was partly true. You hadn't said anything about sharing a moment to Owen, which told you either he lied, or Duncan was exaggerating.
Either way, it frustrated you.
“Funny, that’s what I said too” he grinned, closing the small distance between the two of you. The cabins weren’t too big to begin with but with Duncan this close to you, it seemed even smaller.
He had something up his sleeve, you could tell but you didn’t know him well enough to guess what it was quite yet.
...And all things considered, you could hardly breathe as you waited for whatever he had planned next. You knew that he wouldn't just show up here without a reason.
“Until I realized something...I realized that someone had to have made it up if neither of us remember it” he smirked, expecting you to just confess in the moment.
Clearly he didn’t know who he was talking to.
You were never going to tell him the truth if you could help it and you certainly weren’t going to tell him just because he pointed out a little bit of the truth.
“Maybe, but I don’t know who would have done that” you tried, backing away from where he was slowly until your back hit the cabin door.
You weren’t afraid of what would happen if Duncan ever found out the truth, but you were too stubborn to ever let him think he had the upper hand on you.
It just wasn’t in your nature.
Again, Duncan laughed.
“I’ll tell you the truth, I didn’t know at first either but I finally figured it out” he grinned, stepping even closer to you in the dimly lit space. Duncan knew a ton about avoiding the truth, and he could tell that you were keeping something from him.
He just had to find out what it was, and the rest was easy.
“I think it was you, sweetheart,” he decided, one hand coming to rest on your jaw lightly as he spoke. Each word was slow and purposeful as it fell from his lips.
Each time he opened his mouth, you could feel your heart rate picking up a little bit more and it made you panic. How were you supposed to keep up the lie with him looking at you like this?
It was too much.
“And what makes you think that?” you tried, doing your very best to keep your composure as you spoke. You had no idea what he was getting at, but you had to try.
The alternative was just too much for you to bear.
“I think you would really like to kiss me, and that’s why you made it up” he hummed, looking at you with a single arched brow, proving to you that he really had a reason for being here.
He thought he’d caught you in a lie, but you weren’t about to let him in on the truth.
Did you want to kiss him? Absolutely not. What reason would you have to want to kiss Duncan? He had to be delusional. “That’s crazy” you scoffed, folding your arms across your chest as best you could with the little space between you.
It made no sense.
However, before you could assure Duncan that you thought he was absolutely not your type and way off base, he was already ahead of you.
“Prove it”
You nearly choked on your tongue as soon as the words left his lips. You couldn’t believe what he was suggesting, but there was also part of you that wanted to agree.
After all, if you could kiss him without having to admit that you had made up the lie, you would never have to tell the truth. You could just keep it all hidden away.
“You want me to prove it? Are you sure about that?” you teased, a humor in your voice that you didn’t even recognize as it leaked into the air around you.
It was insane.
However, you never backed away from a challenge.
Before Duncan could even come up with something clever and snide to say back, you had already made up your mind and leaned forward into his lips.
If Duncan wanted a kiss, you were going to give him one.
“I knew it was you” he grinned, winking at you once you two had separated, before leaving completely through the door at your back. He was annoying, but you couldn’t help but blush once he was gone.
