One GOOD thing about the expansion at least is the new appearance customization options. Plenty of other people have shown off the array of natural hair options- I think the hair itself looks good on most of them but the hairline doesn’t match at ALL with the new peach fuzz hairline complexion options. Some combinations work better than others and I found a really good one and gave my bounty hunter a makeover and now I have a beautiful boy.

I made Tane after I watched S1 of The Mandalorian and was high on the general “this is the way” hype of the Star Wars fandom before they RUINED the show with S2 and trying to tie it into the fucking Skywalker melodrama. It was FINE on its own, don’t tie it into Clone Wars and Rebels, it didn’t need Luke, it didn’t need that shit infecting what was a fantastic standalone series that made the Star Wars universe feel real and lived in when not FUCKING everything revolved around the main plot, but everything is a franchise with expounded universes and we need eighteen thousand crossovers to keep people’s attention because the mouse paid out the ass for these IPs and fuck if they are not going to milk them dry!!

BUT ANYWAY. I was still high on The Mandalorian hype so I never had Tane take his helmet off to the point that I forgot what he looked like until I went to the character customization screen just to see if the new options would look good on him.

They do.

They really really do. He doesn’t get to wear his helmet anymore, he’s too pretty. My beautiful boy 🥺

Kaumātua are elders in Māori society. Male elders are known as koroua, and female elders as kuia. This project for a memorial to the victims of the Erebus disaster, set upon a steep hillside in a public park, was conceived as a ‘translation’ of a kuia, wearing a korowai (woven feather cloak), and calling out to the spirits of the living and the dead through the karanga. The vertical architecture at the top of the slope represents the kuia’s head wearing a huia feather; the cascading landscape represents the feathers of her korowai; the architectural step ramps descending back and forth represent the ties of the korowai.

“My korowai, which cloaked my body in the past, was also the foundation to receive the seed for the future. Ranginui instructed Tane, our son, to plant the seed, to weave it into the tapestry of my korowai (Māori cloak) . And as he did so, Ranginui’s tears nourished the seed; so too did light give the seed food, fulfilling a promise from the past.” The korowai was a garment made in early Māori times and was generally woven or made from traditional materials like flax and feathers. It is worn as a mantle of prestige and honor. Everyone has different reasons for wearing korowai whether it be a sense of identity, a congratulatory gift, a connection to our NZ heritage or family tradition. It is worn by both men and women.

The Karanga is a unique form of female oratory in which women bring a range of imagery and cultural expression to the first calls of welcome. It is cultural protocol within certain cultural events. The Karanga is used as an acknowledgement of those who have passed away and in the spirit world and acknowledgement of those living.

In Te Ao Māori the ‘Huia feather’ was revered as a symbol of nobility, leadership and hierarchy. But definitions for this can change depending on tribal affiliation. Some iwi used the Huia feather as a symbol of peace - ‘Raukura’.
