Wimbledon MD R1: Tallon Griekspoor/Bart Stevens [Alt] def. Rajeev Ram/Joe Salisbury [3] 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-4 Match Stats

📸 Eurosport
Ramsbury dominated the first set tie-break, but they did not carry the moment enough as Bart/Tallon stepped up. This paid off until the end of the match, where the moment shifted in the Dutch pair's favor once they settled with their shots.
It was quite a battle in service games (hence the first set tie-break) until Tallon/Bart landed 75% first serves in. To continue, they won 82% of their points from their first serves, scoring 4 more aces along the way (including in securing their key points). Somehow, the second serves were not it for Ramsbury as their 6 double faults waned their second serves winning percentage to 56%, 9% lower than Tallon/Bart.
On the other hand, the baseline was not to be for Ramsbury. While there were a handful of volley errors in some critical points, most parts of them facing break points resulted from getting outhit from the baseline, where Tallon's lobs once again played the difference by utilizing the open space (and doubles alley) more. This resulted in 78% of their serve returns being in, having 40% break point conversion rate compared to Ramsbury's 0 conversion to 2 chances even if they had two-fold return winners than Tallon/Bart.
In the second round, Tallon/Bart will face Simone Bolelli/Andrea Vavassori, who defeated Gonzalo Escobar/Aleksandr Nedovyesov 6-4, 7-6(7) to advance. The net game would become another key than baseline considering how serve and volley became an integral part to Bolelli/A. Vavassori's game, which would be interesting to see this pitting out with Tallon/Bart's service and baseline game.
