synopsis. you’ve been harboring a crush on your neighbor since middle school, and now as junior year nears a close and prom is just around the corner, your relationship gets thrown through a loop with the introduction of a new girl. now you have to make it through seeing him with her when it’s so obvious that he belongs with you.
details. bff!Jungwon x fem!reader, neighbor au, bffs2l, ft. ex-boyfriend jake and sister wonyoung, mostly fluff, lots of pining
warnings. none
word count. 4008
Tumblr media
You had never particularly liked windows.
A weird thing to dislike, true, but there was always something unsettling about them to you.
Maybe it’s because they were so transparent. Windows couldn’t hide anything, and hiding was something you’d been doing for a very long time.
However, there was one window you liked.
You peeked your head through the curtain, looking across and seeing the exact same window you were looking through but on the house next door.
Taped to the glass was a piece of paper, Jungwon’s messy handwriting reading ‘meet you at 7’ staring back at you.
Jungwon, your neighbor and best friend since you were six.
The paper was a fun habit the two of you had started when he got his phone taken away for prank calling your principal (it was Riki’s idea). In his desperation for homework answers, he had taken a bold sharpie to a notebook, and now it was the chosen source of communication.
You rushed to grab your things, running down the stairs and out the door, a way-too-chipper-for-seven am spring in your step when you fell into step with Jungwon.
“You ready for karaoke night tonight?” You asked, referring to the weekly karaoke night you had on Fridays. Jungwon was always ready for karaoke night.
“Oh shoot, um I actually can’t make it this week. I’m sorry.”
“What do you mean?” You pouted at your best friend. He’d never missed karaoke night before.
“I actually have plans with Sohee tonight.”
You roll your eyes but make sure Jungwon can’t see it. Last month when he’d told you Kim Sohee had started talking to him you had laughed out loud, which made him grumpy for the next week.
Sohee was in the grade above you, she was captain of the cheer squad, and the last time you checked, had been dating Jake Sim for the last year.
You were understandably shocked that she had suddenly become interested in your best friend.
“I thought you were hanging out tomorrow?”
“Yeah, she made plans for tonight and tomorrow.”
“Without telling you?”
“Look, she didn’t know it was karaoke night okay? Can you drop it?”
You take a deep breath, reminding yourself to just be happy for your best friend.
“Yeah, of course.. so what’d you get on that science test?”
“73”
“Jungwon!” You gasp, and he laughs sheepishly.
The rest of your walk to school feels normal, just you and Jungwon messing around while complaining about the classes you’re about to enter.
“Jungwon!”
You’re cut off by the shrill voice of Kim Sohee as soon as you enter the school building, Jungwon’s phone still in your hand as you two take a picture of the top of your foreheads.
She beckons him over, and he looks at you for a second as if contemplating if he should go, but a quick nudge of your elbow has him going over to her, yelling something about sending you the picture and seeing you in class.
Your smile drops once he’s gone, turning into an awkward grimace as you navigate the halls alone— an action you’ve never had to do before, since you and Jungwon were already solidified best friends by the time you stepped foot into a school building.
‘You did the right thing,’ you remind yourself as you approach your locker.
Best friends support each other. Best friends like when the other is happy.
You slam your locker shut harder than you meant to— all those other best friends aren’t stupidly in love with Yang Jungwon like you are.
Tumblr media
“All I’m saying is that if this was an episode of backyardigans-”
Your sentence is cut off by a car horn, and you and Jungwon both stop your steps as you turn to see who it was.
The two of you were already running a little late, because you’d stopped to get coffee before school this morning and the line was longer than usual.
You’d wished you’d just kept walking once you see who it is.
“Wonnie, do you want a ride?”
Sohee smiles her sickly sweet grin at you, and you fight to urge to make a face at her.
He looks over at you next to him before speaking.
“Uh I’m okay walking, thank you.”
“Oh come on don’t be silly, I’m already here and my dad took the top off of my car this morning!”
Jungwon glances at you again, and you give him a tight smile.
“It’s okay, Won, we’ve been doing this long enough I know the way to school by now.”
He breaks out into a goofy grin at your comment, hopping in the passenger side of Sohee’s convertible.
She grabs his face and smashes her lips to his— an action that has you immediately diverting your eyes from their direction, willing your eyes to stop watering.
When you look back she gives you a satisfied smirk, putting one hand on the wheel and driving away while your best friend sits stunned silence in the passenger seat.
That morning you’re late to class, but your teacher lets you off the hook because of the mascara smears dried down your cheeks.
Jungwon misses karaoke night again that week.
Tumblr media
“And he yelled at me for having your number on my face, can you believe that?”
It’s Saturday morning and you’re sitting on Jungwon’s bed while you tell him about what the band director had said yesterday when you’d marched at halftime.
Jungwon had gone out with Sohee and some of the other cheerleaders after the game and forgot to text you last night, but Saturday morning breakfast with the Yang’s was part of your routine at this point.
“He doesn’t want me to do it next game— but don’t worry, no old man is gonna make me stop supporting my best friend!” You declare, jabbing your finger into his pillow.
Jungwon is quiet for a moment before speaking.
“Well, maybe you shouldn’t.”
You raise your eyebrow at him, “what do you mean?”
“Like wear my number.. if your director gets mad. Plus Sohee said it makes it look like we’re dating.”
You frown. Did Jungwon really hate the idea of dating you that much?
“Won, I mean this in the nicest way but frankly I don’t care about what either one of them thinks about us.”
“Well I do”
“What?”
He sighs, “it’s just, Sohee doesn’t like that we’re always hanging out because it kinda seems like we’re dating ya know? She wore my number on her face yesterday too and everyone asked if me and you broke up.”
You feel guilty at how happy that thought makes you. People actually thought you and Jungwon were dating.
“Okay so?”
“It just doesn’t look good if people think me and you are together and me and her actually are.”
“Won, since when do you care about what people think?”
“I just do okay? Can you just do this for me? I think I really like her.”
You make sure you’re looking the other way to hide the tears building up, “yeah, whatever won that’s fine.”
“Are you mad at me?”
You sneak a peak at his face, an action you immediately regret because looking at his shiny eyes and pouty lips only intensifies the feeling of being helplessly in love with your best friend while he chases someone else.
“No, I’m just gonna head home okay? I’ve got a lot of homework to do today.”
Jungwon calls after you, offering to do it together, but you’re already down the hall.
“Yn honey, are you not staying for breakfast?” Jungwons mother looks at you softly, and something about it has the tears immediately falling down your face.
“No, I’m really busy today so I’m just gonna head out. Thank you.”
She stares in shock as you run out the door, immediately marching up to Jungwons room to ask what was up— you hadn’t missed Saturday breakfast with the Yangs in six years.
That night you scroll through your phone aimlessly, Wikihow articles on “how to not fall for your best friend” and “how to get over a guy you never had a chance with anyway” pulled up on every tab.
It comforts you a little, and you peek out your window to see if Jungwon is in his room, already sketching out ‘sorry for ditching you’ in your newest notebook.
However, he wouldn’t have seen it because even though he’s in his room, Jungwon is pacing back and forth not paying a single ounce of attention to you.
He’s on the phone, and it doesn’t look fun with the way his hand is flailing about as he talks or the deep heaves of his chest from repeated sighing.
You watch for longer than you probably should, what first started out as trying to read his lips inevitably turning into just staring at them.
He tosses his phone onto his bed (still with the same cars blanket on it from middle school) and covers his eyes. Somehow you know he’s letting out a loud groan— probably because you’ve seen him do it so many times.
He looks your way, and at first you’re embarrassed to be caught, but then he grabs the notebook next to his bed and a giddy feeling returns to your chest.
She’s crazy
You take one look at it and let out a laugh. Normally you don’t condone woman bashing, but it’s Sohee, and she definitely is crazy.
Hate to say I told you so
He just rolls his eyes before flipping to his next sheet, looking at you hopefully.
Chem hw?
Already turned it in
He pouts, writing out a goodbye before clambering over his bed and to his school bag.
You just look down at the notes on your bed, clicking play on your Spotify as you transfer them to a new page.
A few minutes in and they’re quickly discarded, materials strewn across the comforter while you attempt a performance of Fancy by Twice in your vanity mirror.
It’s not very good, but it’s fun, and when the next song comes on you try again. This time you put on a bedazzled hat that you found in your closet, quickly turning into a one woman dance party, completely forgetting that yours and jungwons curtains are both open.
He looks up from his homework to ask you something about ions, but he leaves the sharpie hovering over his notebook, immediately letting out a giggle at what he’s seeing.
There’s laughter in his eyes as he watches you fondly for a few moments before turning back to his paper, deciding he’s done for the night.
When you finally finish your impromptu performance and collapse on your bed in exhaustion, there’s a note on Jungwons window and you have to squint to see the black writing because of the darkness outside.
Cute moves
Tumblr media
Not only did he compliment you, but the next morning you see the familiar meeting message on his window, meaning he told Sohee not to pick him up so he could walk with you.
You practically float down the stairs, the prospect of Jungwon finally realizing that Sohee wasn’t the one for him making all of the negative thoughts from the last few weeks disappear.
“Well you’re in a good mood this morning,” he giggles when you join him.
“I’m just glad we’re walking together again, I’ve missed you these last few days.”
He smiles, bumping your shoulder with his own, “I couldn’t leave my best friend hanging.”
You hide a bashful smile behind your hair.
“And I need your help with something.”
You look up at his glittering eyes, “what’s up?”
“Well, you know prom is coming up..”
Your eyes light up, and he giggles.
“So I guess it’s true then.”
“What’s true?”
“That girls get all excited and gushy over prom,” he says, with another bump to your shoulder.
“Well I don’t know about gushy, but yeah I’ve thought about it before…” you trail off, leaving out the fact that all of your prom daydreams included him.
“That’s great!!” He doesn’t offer any context on why it’s so great, just asks you another question. “What do you think is the perfect way to ask someone to prom?”
You can’t help the excitement from bubbling in your chest, you try to convince yourself that it’s a totally harmless question, but the lovesick voice in your head can’t help but scream “HE'S ASKING YOU.”
Because come on, why else would he be asking about your perfect promposal if not to use it to give you exactly what you want.
“Well, personally I think I’d like it kinda small. Like just someone with a sign outside my window or a casual ask while on a walk or something,” then quickly you add, “but I know a lot of other girls dream about a big public ask, ya know like at a football game or in front of the whole school.”
Jungwon nods, “that’s what I thought.”
There’s a beat of silence before he speaks again.
“Sohee is probably a big ask kind of girl, don’t you think?”
You feel as if you’ve been slapped, and you can’t help the way you recoil.
“Uh”
“I mean I don’t know if it’s weird asking you or not, I know you’re not her biggest fan but I figure you know girl stuff better than me.”
You tuck your head down, blinking back tears as you realize he was never interested in you.
“Yeah, she definitely would be.”
He notices the way your voice seems quieter.
“Hey you okay?”
“Yeah totally,” you’re approaching the school doors now, and you cover with a quick lie, “I just realized I totally forgot to study for this quiz in chem.”
Tumblr media
“We have a quiz?!”
Somehow, Jungwon took your embarrassed reluctance when it came to prom as excitement, as he enlisted you to help him write out a giant sign for Sohee.
(“Well you seemed so excited and I know how much you like making posters”)
So for the three hours between the end of school and the time you had to report for the football game, you sat on Jungwons floor and helped him.
Honestly, it was kind of nice. You got to sit there with someone you love, joking around and creating something.
In fact, if you forgot about what you were doing it almost felt like a date.
But then you would trace out Sohee’s name in two foot letters and remember that he didn’t want you.
“Okay, I’ve got to get ready for band… good luck tonight!”
You hug your best friend goodbye, your lips brushing his cheek on accident and leaving you blushing as you run out of his house.
A small part of you didn’t want the team to win, because maybe if everyone was upset about the loss, Jungwon would decide the moment wasn’t right to carry out his “epic promposal plan” (Yes he named it that himself).
But you tried to shake that thought out of your head, immediately feeling guilty when you remember how long Jungwon had been looking forward to this game.
“Go Tigers!!”
From where you stood playing in stands, you could just see the top of Sohee’s face. It would be a lie to say she looked anything less than perfect, her dark hair shined in the large lights and her kicks were flawless everytime the team scored.
And as much as you told Jungwon you hated football, you spent the entire last quarter on your feet, screaming your head off for your best friend and his teammates.
The other team was up by three with less than a minute on the clock, and you let out an inhuman noise when Jungwon catches a throw in the end zone, officially winning the game for your school.
You wish you could run down as soon as the buzzer sounds to give Jungwon a hug, but unfortunately you were stuck in the stands until the rest of the crowd dispersed.
It’s only when you see him with the rolled up paper that you remember your after school activities that day, and your eyes shoot back to the view of Sohee in front of you.
This time instead of tumbling or cheering, she’s standing still and flirting with her ex boyfriend?
Your eyes go wide as saucers, mouth falling open as she playfully shoves Jake’s shoulder, giggling like a schoolgirl.
You wave your hands at Jungwon, trying to get his attention and call the plan off, but he either doesn’t see you or doesn’t care, continuing his path to the cheerleader.
As much as you hated them together, you couldn’t help but want to stop Jungwon from seeing her with Jake.
But all you can do is watch as he locks eyes on them, dropping the still rolled sign as he walks up.
“What the heck?”
Sohee turns to look at him, and she doesn’t even have the decency to look guilty, keeping her hand on Jake’s pec as she turns to look at the boy she’s been leading on for over a month.
“What?”
“I- I just thought-”
“Thought what?”
He doesn’t even respond, just turns around and walks away, stomping mud into the discarded sign as he does.
Tumblr media
“Won?” You tap on his back door, hoping he hadn’t locked himself up in his room.
He didn’t, and it only takes a moment before he’s swinging the door open.
“Hey.”
He doesn’t look as upset as you thought he would, and you feel a weight lifting off your chest at his lack of bloodshot eyes.
You pick up the sign he had left on the ground, and he glared at it.
“I don’t want it, I mean you did most of it so if you want to you can keep it but-”
You cut him off, “Jungwon I don’t want to keep it.”
“Then why?”
You beckon him out the door, leading him further onto his own deck.
You roll out a small piece of the paper, grabbing it securely at the top before ripping it with as much power as you can muster.
The confusion on his face has now changed to a smile, and his eyes glitter as you take the piece you tore off and rip it into even smaller pieces, depositing them into his fire pit.
“You try.”
He practically runs over, ripping a huge chunk off before layering it with another one and ripping both.
Before long he’s got the entire poster in his fire pit, and there’s a real smile on his face— one you haven’t seen in a while since he started bringing Sohee around. It only gets bigger when you grab a pack of matches from your purse.
After lighting the pile of promposal, you watch as he collapses into one of the chairs around the fire.
“You always know exactly how to make me feel better,” he laughs, “even if this does feel a little bit crazy.”
You shrug, owing the idea to your older sister, “it worked for Wonyoung, we burned all her ex boyfriends hoodies and she never cried over him again.”
Jungwon laughs, “you know, I actually didn’t cry at all.”
You sit next to him, propping your head up on your hand.
“Really?”
“Nope,” he shakes his head, “I don’t know why. Honestly I didn’t really feel sad, I just felt really embarrassed.”
“There’s nothing to be embarassed about, I doubt Jake thinks of you any differently, and really she should be the one embarassed. I can’t believe she used you like that.”
Jungwon nods, “yeah, Jake already texted me and told me he thought it was messed up. Apparently she used me to make him jealous, but when he found out he turned her down.”
You can’t help the satisfied smile from making its way onto your face, a small snort leaving your mouth.
“Guess she’s going to prom alone tomorrow.”
Jungwon looks up at you, “are you going?”
“No, I think I’m just going to stay home and study. I don’t really like most of the people at our school.”
He pouts, “but what about your perfect prom to go with your perfect high school experience?”
You shrug, “that was when I was younger Won, I think I’ve just realized it’s unrealistic.”
He looks like he wants to say something else, but at that exact moment Mrs.Yang yells out the window that it’s too cold and the two of you either need to come inside or postpone your talk until tomorrow.
You yell back immediately, promising to send her son back in.
“I need to get to bed anyway. Goodnight Won, I’m glad you’re not sad.”
He hugs you close, “goodnight love.”
You do not in fact, get to bed after that, because the nickname is all you can hear and think about everytime you close your eyes.
Coffee?
You’ve never felt so grateful to see Jungwon’s handwriting from across the way, and you send him a thumbs up before closing your curtains to get dressed.
The two of you spend most of the day in the cafe, talking and joking around just like old times, and you think that maybe this is enough.
Maybe Jungwon doesn’t have to love you back, he just has to love you the way he always has.
So that night when he holds up a notebook with “sure you don’t want to go?” on it, you smile.
Maybe next year
I’ll hold you to it
He grabs the jacket to his suit, and you close your curtains. If you leave them open you’ll never get anything done, you’ll be too busy waiting for him to come home.
Which would be no time soon, considering the dance didn’t end until eleven and it was barely after six.
You lasted about half an hour actually studying, before deciding to watch a movie to pass the time. It was some cheesy high school movie, and you hoped the cheesy prom scene would make you feel better.
You and Jungwon had watched this movie at one of your sleepovers, because you loved romance movies and he loved you so of course he watched it.
You pause.
Jungwon loved you— surely it was platonic, but he loved you.
You click pause on the remote, ripping your curtains back to see multiple papers taped up on Jungwons window.
I love you
⬆️ I wrote this last year and then buried it deep into one of my drawers, but I think it’s time to bring it out.
I never loved Sohee, not the way I love you. I think deep down I knew it was always you, and I’m sorry it took me so long to admit it.
I love you, and not in the best friend way.
You read it three times before your vision gets too blurry to make the letters out anymore.
“Mom! Do we still have Wonyoung’s old prom dresses?”
In five minutes your mother is in your room, multiple dresses in her arms.
“I knew you would change your mind, come here.”
Tumblr media
The party is in full swing when you arrive, and you see Jungwon standing out on the dance floor awkwardly next to Sunoo.
You can’t help the laugh that escapes your mouth, and as if he has yn senses, Jungwon’s head whips around.
His eyes find your immediately, and he starts cutting through the crowd of people towards you, a huge smile on his face.
Sohee cuts in for a moment, but Jungwon is tired of her getting in the way of you, and shoulders past her.
Neither one of you say anything when you finally stand in front of each other, but you open the small clutch your mother had sent with you.
He watches with fond eyes as you unfold a peice of paper.
I love you
And he kisses you right in the middle of the dance floor, just like every high school movie you’ve ever watched. Except it’s better, because it’s Jungwon.

wc. 1.27k, pretty much pure fluff, idol!jake x idol!reader, part of the swifting series but super short so I’m sorry about that… no warnings really
Tumblr media
It was getting harder, you realized. Harder to be at the same place as Jake and pretend to be strangers, or at the most friendly colleagues. To see him in interviews and award shows and pretend you don’t kiss away his frowns and hold his hand late into the night.
“Now, yn, there has been a lot of speculation around your romantic life, would you like to comment on that?”
You would like to comment on it, very much so. You’d like to tell them how head over heels you were for your boyfriend and how happy you were with him. You’d also like to comment on how negative comments about you only made him upset and for that reason specifically fans needed to back tf up.
However, the staff behind the camera gave you an almost imperceptible shake of their head and you had to once again give a noncommittal answer.
“I don’t really have anything to say on that front, none of us are under a dating ban anymore so it could happen, but right now I’m just focusing on our wonderful fans and our new album coming out thursday!”
You could tell no one in the room was convinced, and the interviewer actually glared at you for dodging their question, but your manager gave you a thumbs up and you continued on with the interview.
“Why are these interviewers so nosy?” Yeji fumed after the show. “They kept grilling us about personal stuff when we were supposed to talk about the album.”
“I mean it might have to do with the fact that yn and Jake can’t be in the same building without looking like lovesick puppies,” Ryujin started, quickly recovering from your leader's glare, “but still yeah, totally out of line.”
You were about to retaliate, already having the “we literally don-” out of your mouth when you entered your dressing room and spotted Jake on one of the couches.
He immediately perked up, jumping out of his seat to grab you into a hug.
“Babe what are you doing here?” You squeal in surprise, grabbing the sides of his face in your palms.
“I wanted to surprise you, we’re on a break from practice right now and I knew you were here.” He smiles, placing a quick peck on your cheek so as to not break the “No gross PDA” rule your members had made especially for the two of you.
“What was that about not looking like lovesick fools for each other?” Lia giggled as the girls made their way around the room.
“Hey I said we didn’t look like lovesick puppies! Not lovesick fools. We definitely are those.” You admit, and the girls roll their eyes.
“She just spewed some garbage about how she has no romantic life and is focusing on the album. How does that make you feel Jake?” Yuna teased.
“I mean yesterday I almost kissed Sunghoon because the company said rumors about me being gay were better than rumors about me having a girlfriend.” Jake admitted sheepishly, and you couldn’t help but burst out laughing.
“Now how am I supposed to look at him at MusicBank on Friday without thinking about the fact that he almost kissed my boyfriend?”
“Sorry babe, priorities.” He shrugs.
A timer goes off on his phone, and he dejectedly pulls it out.
“I need to leave now, I’m sorry.” He apologizes.
“It’s okay, I get it. Thanks for coming, do good at practice and I’ll call you tonight okay?”
He nods his head before heading to the door, you following closely behind.
“I’m going to kiss my boyfriend now so if you guys don’t want to see, please look away.”
“Hey no pda!” Chaeryeong yells.
“I’m giving you a warning! It’s only public if you watch!” None of them turn away and you glare. “And there will be tongue just to be clear. Very affectionate display-y.”
The girls groan and look away, and Jake just shakes his head. It was truly just going to be an innocent peck, but he understood how much you hated people seeing your intimate moments. Probably another gift the idol life had given you.
Your relationship was your own, and in an industry where nothing is private, it was nice to have some solace, especially in the form of your cute Australian boyfriend and his soft lips.
“Okay, bye for realsies now, I love you.”
“Love you.”
You watch as he pulls his mask and hood on, ducking out of the room and heading towards the side door. You know all of the paparazzi are going to be at the back one waiting for you and your members.
You still find yourself letting out a relieved sigh when he texts you.
No cameras spotted. One guy saw me but he thought I was Jimin from BTS so 🤷🏻‍♀️ we’re all clear, talk to you later <3
“You’re disgusting.”
You can only laugh in response, chucking a throw pillow at Yuna and finally sitting down to get your performance gear removed.
Tumblr media
“I hate these award shows!” Jake huffs out for the billionth time.
“Stop saying that, I know you love doing fancy new routines and putting on crazy performances.”
He sighs in defeat.
“Yeah, but I hate having to see you all pretty and impressive and pretend I’m not completely in love with you.”
His words cause heat to rush to your face, and you avoid his eyes as you look down at the tie he has crooked and sticking out weirdly.
Wordlessly, you start fixing the accessory, retying it before smoothing it out and brushing off his shoulders. Jake watches you with fond eyes, loving the domestic-ness of your actions, even if he didn’t forget your lack of response to his previous statement.
When you finish your ministrations on his tie, Jake grabs your wrists in his hands, causing you to look up at him.
“I really mean it. I’m in deep.”
You can’t help but smile, leaning in to press your lips into his, only separating to mumble “I’m head over heels,” before immediately reconnecting, savoring the sweet moment with your lovely boyfriend.
“Okay lovebirds, break it up,” It’s Jay, and you finally pull away from your boyfriend, smiling when he chases your lips. “It’s time to walk.”
Jake pouts as his friend escorts him to their van where they’ll enter the red carpet, your group following shortly after. Close enough that people would remember the rumor of you two dating, but far enough that Jake couldn’t stare at you the entire time, exposing the truth to everyone with eyes.
However, it’s not very worth it when later that night the camera man lands on Jake while you’re performing.
Head to toe dressed in full leather, you send a smirk and a wink at the camera after you perform your piece of the interlude, a fight scene with someone in a mask.
The first notes of Mafia in the Morning play, but the camera is focused on Jake, his mouth hanging open and eyes cloudy as he stares straight at you.
It takes Heeseung elbowing him rather aggressively for your boyfriend to finally close his dropped jaw, zoning back in and realizing what just happened.
“I’m sorry,” he mouths when you walk back to your seats after your performance. He follows it up with a text to your phone.
You just looked too good 🥺
You can’t be mad at the boy, especially after he sends you his big lovesick puppy eyes from his table.
You shake your head before texting back.
It’s fine.. Everyone just might know we’re dating now and surround us like vultures.
His response is almost immediate.
Good thing I know places we can hide.
Such as?
The next one has you giggling like a schoolgirl, and your members all roll their eyes, even if they do have smiles on their faces.
Stairwell, ten minutes.
Also, you’re coming home with me tonight

Sypnosis. By the time you’re old enough to move away from your parents, you have one large unresolved question that sticks out above the rest. “Why do we bother with love if it never lasts?”. That is, until you meet Jay, the cute student at your uni who also happens to be your server every time you go to your favorite cafe.
Pairing. Uni!barista! Jay x uni reader, neuroscience and therapeutic science majors (not specified which is which), appearances by roommates Joy and Sunghoon
Warnings. Reader has a 👎 homelife, mentions of parents fighting and basically not being in love, maybe suggestive? (Mentions of joy having company), a (1) curse word, a rushed argument, sunghoon makes a joke about running you and jay over with his car 😁
Wc. 4095
A/n. SWIFTING SERIES UPDATE!! This has been sitting in my drafts for a while and I just loved the beginning so much I was scared to finish it and ruin it hopefully I didn’t bc I’m actually in love with this fic (also I think I’m hilarious in it so compliment me pls 😗)
Taglist. @chuubear @naebyols @enhypenova @ifyourereadingthisitstookate @snowflake-jkhoon @en-ternity (these are the ones I could find, if you asked and aren’t here lmk bc you might have changed users since it’s been an eternity)

It's easy to remember the day you left for university. Paying more for a dorm room was worth it to get away from the constant arguing of your parents.
A very good choice you decided, when they started fighting right before you left. It was about something dumb like the groceries, and you didn't even get a proper goodbye from either of them, eventually just yelling "okay bye" and going. Neither of them even looked in your direction.
So to say you might have a negative outlook on love, would be pretty accurate, possibly even an understatement.
You remember meeting your roommate for the first time, a girl named Joy. She was all about love, and you found yourself watching way more romcoms than you'd like to during your weekly movie night.
Yours and Joy's relationship just worked. She liked going to parties, bringing boys (sometimes girls) home, and you liked studying , actually showing up to your classes, and sleep.
That was how you found yourself walking into Chamber 5 cafe for the first time, you'd gone out to grab an energy drink to continue studying and when you came back Joy had come home and she was definitely not alone.
You let out a groan, sneaking in just long enough to grab your computer and textbook before making a run for it. The main room of the girls dorm proved to be an awful place to actually study, if your essay wasn't on who's toxic relationship was struggling this week, you weren't going to get anything done.
And that's how you found yourself wandering off of campus, computer and textbook tucked under your arm, searching on your phone for the nearest place to study. Chamber 5 cafe came up, only three minutes away, and the pictures on Google showcased muted pastels and tables with outlets. Perfect studying atmosphere.
This belief proved true, when you walked in there were about five other students there for what appeared to be the same reason as you were, their eyes scanning over laptops or papers while they lethargically sipped on coffees.
A content smile appeared on your face despite the events that had lead you to the place, and a two person table in the back corner called out your name as you entered further into the shop, ready to get some work done.
Feeling something off, your eyes glance up from the textbook page in front of you, and you almost jump out of your seat at the appearance of a boy in front of you. He appeared to be around your age, and his blonde hair fell into his eyes when he laughed at your reaction.
"Sorry about that, I didn't mean to scare you"
"It's okay, I wasn't paying attention" you reassured.
He looks down at the short notepad in his hand, eyes finding your textbook instead.
"Woah are you in Mr.Kim's intro to the brain class?"
You look up in surprise at how he recognized the course from one page of the textbook.
"Uh, yeah, have you taken it?"
"Yeah, last semester, it was great"
You look at him in mock disgust, "when does the great start? Because if I have to look at this brain one more time I might cry."
He laughs at your frustration, reassuring you that it would get better once you get past the first few weeks.
"Now, can I get you something to drink?"
You look up at the menu, realizing you hadn't even thought about it.
"Oh, um, do you have any recommendations?"
"Hmmm," he takes the seat across from you, "well let's see, are you a sweet or a bitter person?"
"I mean, I consider myself pretty bitter, but if we're talking about coffee.."
His laughter fills the room and you feel a proud smile on your face, something about being the cause of the sound filled you with excitement.
"Alright so one sweeter than you coffee, I will be back"
You smile as he heads back towards the counter, and you try to refocus on your textbook, but after rereading the same paragraph for the third time you realize that it's not working out.
You huff as you shut the textbook, reminding yourself that the cerebral cortex will still be there tonight. Instead you send a quick update to your roommate, asking her for a confirmation text when it's safe to enter the dorm again.
Shortly after the boy is back, this time with a coffee in his hand. You find yourself smiling as he holds it out to you, and you quickly read the tag on his shirt while you take it from him .
"Thank you, Jay"
"You're welcome, uh, you aren't wearing a name tag"
You let out a laugh at his statement, jokingly ripping a piece of notebook paper and writing your name on it, holding it up to your shirt while he laughs.
"Sorry, I forgot to put it on this morning"
He lets his laughter die out before speaking again.
"How forgetful of you, y/n"
You laugh again and he sits in the same spot as before, keeping an eye on you as you take a sip of the drink he made you.
"Oooo!! This is really good!"
He smiles, glad you like it, before looking down to see your textbook shut.
"Hey I thought we were studying?"
You scrunch up your face and push the book off to the side as far as possible without it falling off of the table.
"Honestly I did too, but my brain decided it didn't want to. So instead I want to talk to you"
His heart jumps a little in his chest, appreciative of your interest in him, and it's small, but his heart is already making room for you as you question him about himself.
Jay's glad the cafe was slow that day, as it meant he was able to talk to you as much as he wanted without being a bad worker. You made sure to pause the conversation whenever a new customer came in or someone needed a refill, thankfully, the cafe was full of college students who really didn't care if the cute barista was talking to someone as long as they got their caffeine fix.
When you reached a lull in the conversation, you looked around the room, empty tables staring back at you.
"Hey Jay?"
"Yeah?"
"When does the cafe close?"
He looks down at his watch, "8:30 pm", and then double takes when his brain registers 9:34 flashing on his wrist.
"Oh shit"
You laugh as he rushes to clock out, and you pack up your things before making your way to the counter.
"You don't have to wait for me, I have to empty and clean out all of these machines"
"Well can I help?"
Normally he would say no, no one but employees was allowed behind the counter, but it was late and he wanted to get it done as soon as possible. Plus, spending extra time with you was a nicer alternative than watching you walk out of the cafe.
"Sure, here just fill these with water and this cleaning liquid and then turn the machine on, I'm gonna work on those"
"Yes sir" you give a mock salute and he laughs as you get to work.
Between the two of you it only took about 20 minutes to get everything cleaned and ready for the next day, but Jay insisted on walking you back to your dorm since it was late.
You check your texts for a message from Joy, and sigh in relief when you see the "you're good to come back" text, quickly explaining it to Jay while he laughs at your misfortune.
"Yeah I get that, I live in an apartment off of campus and my roommate Sunghoon is the same way"
You smile as you approach the dorm building, glad someone else had to deal with it as well.
"Well thank you for walking me"
"Of course"
You say your goodbyes, but neither of you move to leave yet. You make quick eye contact, giggling awkwardly as you finally enter the building.
Joy interrogates you when you get home, and you tell her about your new friend while she questions the legitimacy of his friend status.
"Come on girl you literally described him as attractive"
"Yes because it's a fact. Someone can be attractive without me being attracted to them"
She stared at you in confusion for a moment before rolling her eyes.
"Whatever he's hot, and that was flirting. You should let me text him for you, get you a date or something"
Your eyes widen and you realize.
"Don't tell me you didn't get his number"
You give a shoulder shrug and she lets out a groan, mumbling one more "you're useless" before she heads off to bed.
You cringe at yourself when you realize how dumb you were, but decide you can just go back to the cafe another day and get it.
However that day ends up being much farther off than you thought once your professors started drowning you in work. You barely left your room, let alone the campus.
Jay was slowly losing the extra excitement that came with each shift, his constant thought of you coming back so he could finally ask for your number like he had stupidly forgotten to do the first time.
Thankfully for the both of you, your professor had lightened up on the work as the big test came up, coincidentally the same one you had been studying for when you met Jay (a thought that definitely didn't keep distracting you because your stupid brain kept thinking back to the blond haired boy instead of the material).
You trudged off of campus, your brain feeling like goo after finally handing in your test on different parts of the brain and their functions. One thing was certain, and it's that your frontal lobe was not performing it's thinking function correctly.
In fact, no part of your brain was thinking as you wandered through the busy university streets, yet somehow you ended up at a familiar cafe.
The scent of coffee was welcomed into your clouded head, and you went straight to the counter to get your caffeine fix, only stopping when you came face to face with the certain blond that had been running laps in your head for the last week.
"Y/n!"
"Jay! Oh my gosh hey"
"You look like you could use a coffee"
"That obvious?" He laughed, but you were joking around, and quickly ordered the drink you had been thinking of since your testing sheet was placed in front of you.
You waited for your drink at the counter, quickly flashing him a smile when he handed it to you, and took a seat at the table closest to where he was working while he made an Americano for another customer.
He came over to your seat after the other student had their drink safely in their hand.
The caffeine was starting to work its magic in your system, and Jay noticed the way your eyes seemed more attentive when he sat down next to you.
"So what's up with the walking zombie-ness?"
"Mr.Kim's brain test was today, and let me just say, my frontal lobe is severely slacking off"
He laughed again, and you continued talking until you got a call from Joy, something about needing you to come home immediately.
"I'm so sorry Jay, I have to go, that was my roommate"
"Oh yeah of course, let me just check you out"
You were glad he quickly turned around to swipe your card through the register so that he couldn't see the wide eyed face you made in misunderstanding.
He handed you his copy of the receipt so that you could sign, but was quickly whisked away as another customer rang the service bell and Jay had to go get their order.
When he finally handed them their frappuccino, there was no sign of you in the cafe and he let out a sigh as he made his way back to the table to collect your receipt. Stupid, stupid Jay, he had gotten so excited talking to you that he had once again neglected to ask for your number.
'I seemed to have forgotten last time, text me whenever :D ~ y/n'
He stared down at the writing on the receipt, a large smile making an appearance on his face. Quickly typing the numbers from under your note into his phone, he debated whether or not to text you.
He eventually settled for a 'hey, this is Jay! Nice move with the receipt thing. Hope your roommate is okay :)'
He tried to muffle his excited giggle when you texted back almost immediately.
'She's completely fine, I'm not sure how her burning boxed Mac and cheese is an emergency, but here we are. And thank you, I though I was quite slick'
You texted for the rest of the night, and continued for the next day, which turned into a week, which turned into a month, which turned into two, and so on.
Joy continued to tease you about the boy's status in your life as your relationship continued, his contact name 'my favorite boy' not helping your defense much.
You knew you were lying to her about your feelings, but honestly you didn't feel bad because you were also lying to yourself about them.
"I'm going out with Jay tonight, if you bring someone home just text me"
"Ooooo you know, I wasn't planning on going out tonight, but if it means you spend the night with," she puts finger quotes up with her next words, "your favorite boy, I just might."
You rolled your eyes, quickly slinging your bag over your shoulder and leaving as she sent you a wink.
When you exited the dorm building, Jay was already waiting for you, leaning against his car and pretending not to notice all the other girls staring at him.
A pang of jealousy shot through you, and you made sure to greet Jay with a smile and a quick hug, clearly letting everyone around know he was there for you. He pretended not to notice, but a smirk was visible on his face as it rested on your shoulder.
He opened the door for you to get in, and wouldn't tell you where you were going until you pulled into a parking lot, a large body of water taking up the majority of the landscape in front of you.
Jay opened the door for you once again, leading you to a spot near the water where a picnic had been set up. There were small flowers in a vase in the center, and fake candles lined the perimeter of the blanket.
Something in your brain perked up at the setup, a little too romantic for the friend hangouts you've been enjoying the last few months.
"This is beautiful"
You missed the way his eyes sparkled as he watched you take it all in, a sight that would definitely be confirming your suspicions.
You pretended not to notice the way Jay seemed to fidget in his spot as you ate, or the way he kept playing with the rings on his fingers while he talked.
You found yourself closer to the water once you were done eating, and the blanket provided much welcomed warmth as you sat together watching the water.
Jay's arms stretched out as he yawned, and only once one of them settled on your shoulders did you realize what he was doing.
His eyes stayed glued to your face for a reaction, not missing the way you tensed up when you realized what had happened.
"How do you feel about love?"
You looked at him, confused with the sudden question.
Upon seeing your face he quickly explained.
"It's just, you've never talked about boys to me, you never want to watch romance movies, and the only time I've heard you talk about relationships is when you're complaining about other people's"
"I don't know, I guess I'm just not interested in it. Movies are unrealistic, and most of the relationships in uni are toxic anyway. After everything I've seen and been around, I just don't think it's worth it"
"Do you think it's real?"
You contemplated the question, did you think love was real?
"I think the world would be a very sad place if love wasn't real. However, I'm not sure romantic love really lasts"
"What about your parents? They're in love"
Jay had met your parents one day when you needed to go back home for a cousins birthday party. You had specifically brought him because you knew your parents would be on their best behavior if there was a guest.
"If that's love than I don't want it"
His eyebrows furrowed, and a frown was prominent on his face while he listened to your extremely pessimistic view of love.
"What do you mean?"
"My parents have been fighting since practically the day I was born. My dad disappeared for a while but as soon as he came back they were at it again. I truly don't think my parents are in love. Maybe they were, but now they're just married because they don't want to get a divorce. I don't think that's love"
You were facing each other now, and you weren't sure why you were spilling out your childhood trauma and messed up life details to Jay. You had never told anyone before, and yet you didn't even think twice about it before you started talking.
For the first time you wanted someone to know. You wanted them to know why you were the way you were. You wanted them to understand you, so that maybe they wouldn't leave.
"Oh y/n, I'm so sorry"
You didn't want pity, you always hated the feeling of someone pitying you, but this felt different. He wasn't pitying your life, he was genuinely sorry that you hadn't been shown the way love was supposed to be.
"It's fine, just how life works out"
"But it's not! Love is real, and I know you aren't a fan of it, but if you give me the chance, I will show you," you hadn't rejected his advance, but it was clear you were in no position to reciprocate his feelings. "Just give me the chance to show you what love is supposed to be like"
Maybe it was the warmth in your body from his arm around your shoulders, or maybe it was the way the stars seemed to reflect off the water and into his eyes, but you found yourself leaning closer to the boy.
"Okay"
That night you spent way too long together contemplating other random  ideas about life, and it turned out Jay's brain was a little messed up too. Although you decided by the end of the night that maybe everyone's brain was. Maybe there's nobody who isn't a little messed up.
You almost fell asleep on Jay's shoulder halfway through a conversation about multiple lives, and you might have fallen if it weren't for his arm that was still around your shoulder.
He carried you back out to his car even though you assured you could walk and were just a little tired. He didn't believe you though, and that night he gave up his bed so that you could sleep comfortably after Joy had carried out her master plan that left you with him overnight.
You remember the way he left a glass of water next to the bed and reassured you to just wake him up if you needed anything.
Maybe love isn't so bad
The next few months were better than anything you'd experienced before. Jay helped you study, brought you takeout after bad days, and you spent even more nights together out on drives, just talking. He had made the joke multiple times that maybe you two should have majored in philosophy instead of being neuroscience and therapeutic science students.
Within three months there's a drawer in Jay's dresser dedicated to your clothes, and you leaving the apartment in the early morning had become a common sight for his roommate. You no longer denied Joy's teasing, and you found yourself believing that maybe love could be real and lasting, because as much as you hated to admit it, you didn't want Jay to ever leave you or stop being with you.
"So, I've been looking at apartments near the school," Jay cautiously brought up to you one day after lunch together at your favorite spot.
"Oh? Are you and Sunghoon thinking about moving?"
You were laying on the couch together and you felt him shift uncomfortably behind you.
"No, I was thinking more of you and me moving in together."
You sit up quickly when the words leave his mouth, head snapping to look at him in shock.
"Before you start making excuses, Sunghoon already found a new roomate! Some guy named Jake in one of his classes is looking for a place, and you and I both know Joy has plenty of options."
His hands are reaching for you, and it isn't until he reaches them that you realize you've stood up, putting distance between the two of you.
"Jay they aren't excuses, you have to think of things before you make decisions this big!"
"Okay well I thought of them, they're solved it doesn't matter what I call them."
"And you didn't consider, I don't know asking me about it?"
"We'll we already practically live together, I thought you would be fine with it."
"You can't just make decisions like this without talking to me about them!! Thinking I'd be fine with it is not the same as making sure I'm fine with it."
By now the two of you were yelling, and without even realizing it your body was backing towards the door and away from Jay. It was your first real argument, and something in it was triggering that old fight or flight response from your childhood.
"Are you not fine with it?" His words were bitter and you felt like all of the love he'd shown you over the last few months were gone.
You'd finally done it. You'd pushed him too far. Your stupid fear of commitment had finally brought the end you knew was coming.
And at that moment, flight won.
By the time you finish moving you're in the parking lot in front of Jay's apartment and the sobs are wracking through your body while you repeat the last few minutes in your mind.
The yelling, the hurt look in his eyes, the last words he'd said to you.
You hear footsteps and you can tell it's him. You want to laugh, how you can even recognize his footfalls against pavement.
He sits down next to you and his aura still gives away his anger.
"Yn"
You brace yourself for his next words, already knowing what they're going to be.
'I can't do this, you weren’t worth this much work.’
What you actually hear sounds foreign to your ears.
"I'm sorry."
He stares at the way you turn to him in shock, and he finds himself wondering if anyone had ever apologized to you.
"You don't want to leave me?"
"No! What? Of course not!"
He's confused and you're confused, and you're both still angry, but somehow you find yourself in his arms.
His hands attach to your head, pulling it into his chest and both of you take deep breaths.
"I'm sorry too. And,” he looks down when you pause, a deep breath inflating your body, “I love you."
Jay doesn’t think he’s ever moved faster than he did at that moment, readjusting so that he could stare into your eyes, and he wasn’t sure if it was the tears or if your eyes just seemed brighter than they used to.
"Did you just say what I think you did?"
He'd never heard you say those words to anyone, and he knew about your doubt.
"I thought you thought love didn't exist."
You blush now, a little embarrassed at your bold statement in the heat of the moment, and you avoid his eyes as you try to explain yourself.
“I don’t know it’s just, I feel like you’ve proven to me that it does. And I mean maybe I’m right and it won’t last, but I hope not because I don’t ever want to be without you. I think I was just scared to admit it because things had always been so good it seemed too good to be true. But I’ve never had anyone apologize to me after a fight, and I’ve never had anyone-” you contemplate your next word carefully and his heart breaks a little when you finally find the right one. “Stay.”
There’s tears running down both of your faces, and you find yourself attempting to kiss all the tears away from skin while he smiles like lovesick puppy.
"What are you two idiots doing?"
You’re broken from your moment by Sunghoon in his car, his path to the parking lot blocked by your hugging bodies.
"Actually I don't even want to know. You’re lucky I actually stopped instead of just running you over like I thought about before I realized it was you guys.”
You're all laughing when Jay sticks his middle finger up at his roommate, but he scoops you up off the pavement anyways, carrying you bridal style back to the apartment while Sunghoon continues his complaining, yelling something along the lines of “should’ve just kept going.”

A beeping sound echoes in the small bakery, the scent of freshly baked cookies enveloping you like a warm hug. A bell over the door jingles as someone enters the shop and you all out a “I’m in the back, I’ll be with you shortly” as you maneuver the hot pan out of the way.
You walk to the front of the store, expecting to see one of the sweet old ladies who frequent your business, and it’s a struggle to hide your surprise when you’re met with the handsome face of a man about your age.
“Uh hello,” a smile situates itself on your face as you approach where the man is standing, admiring the pastries through your display case.
“Hello” he stands up straight, his full height making you crane your neck slightly as he smiles back at you.
“Is there anything I can help you with today?”
He explains that he's getting a party together for the HYBE corporation's end of the quarter celebration, and is looking for a caterer for desserts.
"Oh, yeah absolutely, why don't I set you up with a tasting"
You weren't completely sure what they did in that building, other than that it was fancy and they got paid a lot for it. But an event is an event, and you liked catering events.
"Actually I think I'm good, I already know what I want"
A jolt of surprise runs through your body as he says it, confused on how he could already know. You're very certain he's never been in your business before, as you would definitely remember a face like his.
"Alright then, um how big of a headcount are we looking at"
"About 100 workers and their families, just put me down for," he glances back at the pastry cases to read the tags sitting in front of the baked goods, "75 of those tarts, both in raspberry and mint, 50 of those vanilla twist pastries, and 60 of the chocolate cannoli's"
You furiously scribbled down his order as he spoke, internally freaking out at how much time it would take you to bake everything, eventually looking back up when he stopped talking.
"Okay and that is under what name, and for what date?"
"Lee Heeseung, and next Saturday"
You grimaced at the short notice, thankfully Heeseung didn't notice, writing down the last bit of information on the order slip before shooting him a wide grin.
"Alright I will get that all worked out for you, thank you for the order"
He flashed a beautiful smile and you immediately smiled back, trying your best to ignore the way your stomach did flips at the sight.
"While I'm here, can I also just get whatever that chocolate thing is in the display case"
He said it with a slightly embarrassed chuckle, followed quickly by "just don't tell my boss, he'll probably give my nutritionist a heart attack"
You laughed with him, going to get the pastry he ordered, ringing it up and passing it over the counter, quickly snapping your hands back into yourself at the brush of his fingers.
Heeseung doesn't seem to notice as he takes a seat at one of the tables, continuing small talk with you as you replace items in the display case with fresh ones.
When you finished your task he was still eating and nobody else had come into the store, so you start wiping down the tables around him, accepting his offer when he asks you to sit with him.
"So you own this place?"
"Yep! It was my grandmas before the previous owner took over, and they just happened to be retiring when I graduated so it got passed down to me"
"That's impressive, owning your own business this young"
His eyes shined genuinely when he said it and you could tell that he really was impressed.
"Thank you, I'm very proud of it"
He smiles again and somehow you just know that he's a good person. The way he actually cares about the things you talk about, not just pretending to be interested. You could tell he loved seeing other people happy with the look he gave you when you talked, and maybe it was unreasonable, but right then and there a part of you fell for Lee Heeseung.
"You seem quite impressive yourself, working for a big fancy company like HYBE at your age!" You complimented back.
"Oh it's nothing, just a," he paused for just slightly longer than necessary before saying "an internship."
"That's still so cool! What's it like?"
You propped your chin on your hand as you waited for his response, not noticing the way he stared when you did so.
"Uh it's really not as cool as you think," he brushes off the question, "hey, do you want to go for a walk with me?"
The change of topic caught you slightly off guard, but you recovered quickly, checking the time on the clock and realizing it was time to close.
"Yeah that'd be great, just let me close up"
You go through the routine, counting your cash box and storing away pastries, eventually locking the door behind you as you and Heeseung head out into the evening.
"Where do you want to go?" You ask, since he was the one that suggested a walk, and he smiled back at you as soon as the words left your mouth.
"I thought you'd never ask"
He grabs your hand, excitedly pulling you to follow him as he passed through alleys and patches of trees, before eventually stopping, letting out a "ta-da"
You turn in a slow circle, taking in the view, willow trees hanging down around the bank of a river, small flowers covering the base of the trees.
"Oh my-"
You finally turned back to the man next to you, finding his sparkling eyes already on you.
"This is beautiful Heeseung"
His smile is bright enough to light up the slowly darkening night around you as it graces his face, and he pulls you over to sit down under one of the trees.
"Hey Heeseung, can I ask you something?"
"Yeah sure, anything"
"How'd you already know what you wanted to order? I'm sure I've never seen you in my store before, I would remember you"
"Because I'm just so handsome?" He teases, laughing even harder when you reply "yeah, exactly".
"Well Y/N, can I be honest with you?"
"Yeah, of course"
"I've tasted your food before, even before you owned that place"
Your eyes widened at his confession, head cocking to the side as you tried to think of where he could have had your pastries.
"Were you at an even catered?"
He shakes his head dramatically, mumbling something unintelligible.
"What was that?" You lean closer to try and hear what he says and he looks up then, face mere inches from yours as he repeats himself.
"I said 'you give a girl her first kiss and she doesn't even remember you'"
You let out a small gasp as you realize and your face flares up in embarrassment.
Seventh grade, you had your first kiss with a boy who went to the same music classes as you, and you remember embarrassingly bringing him baked goods every class after that. His name was Heeseung, and now that you think carefully you can see the resemblance to the man sitting in front of you now.
"Oh my gosh that's so embarrassing, how'd you know it was me?"
He decides not to tell you he's remembered you since that little peck in middle school and has been begging his boss to order from your bakery so he would have an excuse to see you again.
"You haven't changed much since seventh grade" was his response instead, and you slapped his arm at the comment.
You two spent the next three hours just talking, catching up on each other's lives and reconnecting after your time away.
Before you knew it the sun had completely set and there were no light posts in the area Heeseung had brought you, you now struggled to see the boys pretty smile only a foot in front of you.
"Its getting late, and you probably have work tomorrow, we should probably start heading back."
He checked his phone at your mention, and you pretended not to notice the giant number of notifications while his eyes widened at the time.
"I didn't even realize it had gotten so late, let me take you back"
You're glad he offered, not sure you would be able to make it back to the cafe without his guidance.
The way back seemed much shorter than when you had been pulled down it earlier that day, and you found yourself disappointed that he didn't grab your hand again.
"Well here we are"
He looked around once you made it back to the familiar building, before turning to you.
"Where's your car?"
"Oh, I live pretty close so I just walk, it's easier than trying to find a parking spot in the city traffic anyway"
He nodded his head along with your statement but then shook his head slightly.
"You can't walk home alone at this time of night"
You felt touched by his concern, but fought him on it anyway.
"It's fine Hee, it's only like four blocks away"
"Nope, no way. That's way too far, come on"
He waved his hand towards you and you looked down at it curiously.
"What?"
"I'm walking you home, now come on"
He grabbed your hand again, both of you smiling at how right it felt.
You reached your house in about five minutes, and you tried to hide your disappointment at the prospect of your fun night coming to an end.
"Do you want to come in"
His eyes lit up at the offer but were quickly turned down to look at his feet.
"I'd love to, but I have work early tomorrow"
"Oh, okay"
It was quiet for a few moments before he made eye contact again, taking a step closer to your body and pulling you in his arms in a friendly hug.
"Thank you"
You hugged him back, wrapping your arms around his torso.
"I should be the one thanking you, that spot was beautiful, and I had a really great time. Thank you for taking me with you"
Little did you know that he wasn't thanking you for the few hours you had spent together. But he said "of course" anyway.
"Well goodnight"
"Goodnight"
You went to go inside, sticking your key in the lock before quickly thinking of something.
"Wait!"
Heeseung looked at you quizzically, waiting for you to say whatever it was you had just thought of.
"I need your number," he raised one eyebrow and you quickly added "so you can text me when you get home safe, I would be an awful friend if I let you get kidnapped after you so graciously walked me home"
He laughed at your reasoning, but handed you his phone anyway as you two quickly added each other's contact.
You took a look at his contact, bursting out in laughter at the sight of it.
"Did you really put your name in as 'Heedungie' with a bunch of hearts?"
He looked proud of himself for making you laugh and he nodded his head.
"Yes, yes I did"
"No fair, give me your phone back I want to give you something embarrassing too"
You didn't think he actually would, but his phone was held out to you and you took it, quickly turning around and taking an exaggeratedly cute selfie to set as the contact picture before putting in a nickname for your name, complete with the same aggressive hearts as his.
"There"
He took the phone back and laughed at the improved contact.
"Perfect"
You shared one last smile before you entered your house, Heeseung leaving your porch after seeing you securely in, making sure he walked a block away before calling his driver so you wouldn't see.
Only once he was safe in the confines of the backseat did he look at the notifications on his phone.
23 missed texts from his father and 7 calls from his mother.
He clicked on the notification, skimming his eyes over the texts, rolling his eyes at their content. He didn't even read all the way through before shutting his phone off, throwing it across the seat for the rest of the ride.
You had just stepped out of the shower when you heard your phone ding, and you paused the music to go check the text.
'Just got home, all in one piece and no kidnapping attempts were made on me'
You laughed at his text, shooting back something along the lines of 'I'm glad to hear that' before heading out of your bathroom to get dressed.
Heeseung texted you a few more times after that, and you found yourself giggling at his messages exactly like seventh grade you did. Eventually you said your good nights, after you had scolded him for staying up when he needed to get up in the morning, and you smiled one last time at the obnoxiously cute contact name before floating off to sleep.
You went to work the next day, and the one after that, and there was no real difference in your life except for the constant texting and the extra bounce in your step. Even your regulars commented on how happy you looked.
Heeseung liked to come to the cafe on his lunch break, and you started making an extra lunch in the morning after the first day when he ordered three pieces of cake as his meal.
It was Thursday, and you were currently trying to find someone to help you bake the giant order for the party.
"Come on please, it's huge, and even one person would be a huge help to me"
"Sorry I can't, I'm babysitting for my neighbors the whole week"
You let out a sigh at yet another no, and put your phone back down on the counter.
You were so absorbed in the call that you hadn't heard Heeseung come in, and you almost screamed when you looked up to see him standing in front of you.
"Woah sorry," he was laughing so he obviously wasn't that sorry, "I didn't want to interrupt your call"
"It's okay"
"What do you need help with?"
It took you a moment to realize he meant the phone call and you let out another sigh at your empty search.
"I'm trying to get someone to help me with the order for the party, it's the biggest order I've gotten and it's just me so I can't make it all in one day by myself"
"Oh," he paused "what are you going to do"
"I don't know" you shrugged, "I'll have to start making things tomorrow, everything that would be able to stay overnight so that I don't have to do it all on Saturday, but even with that I don't know if I'll be able to get everything tomorrow done. Maybe I'll put a hiring sign up and hope someone applies by tomorrow"
He tried to stifle his giggles at how dumb of an idea that would be, but you still noticed.
"Heeeeee," you whined, holding the sound out for longer than needed, "stop laughingggg I know it's dumb. I'm trying to avoid a breakdown okay?"
He finally stopped laughing, and his eyes lit up like he just thought of an amazing idea.
"I can help you!!"
You look at him like he's crazy and he shrugs nonchalantly, "What? It's a good idea."
"No Hee, I would never ask you to do that. Besides it's literally for your order, I'm not making you cook for it, especially not on a work day"
"Nope, it's too late. I've made up my mind. I'm helping you"
"No Heeseung, you're not"
"Yes I am. Okay now I'm gonna run away before you can yell at me more. I'll be here tomorrow at- wait, what time do you even open?"
"Nine AM"
"-Then I will be here at nine AM"
"No Heeseung!"
He takes off running and you try to chase him down, both of your laughter ricocheting off the walls. A few people outside stop and watch as you run like children, most of them smiling at the sight.
"Heeseung"
"Nope, not happening"
He runs around you in a circle, quickly running up to the side of your body giving you a peck on the cheek and then taking off back towards the direction of his work.
"See you at nine AM" is the last thing you hear from him, a quiet message because of how far away he was, even though you know he was shouting when he said it.
You shake your head as you watch him turn the corner, turning around to come face to face with one of your regulars.
"So that's why you've been so happy lately?"
You try to think of something to say, some denial of how smitten you were, but all that came out was a giggle, one that solidified your current appearance of a lovesick school girl. You immediately slapped your hand over your mouth, embarrassed at your reaction, but the woman just laughed before heading into the building, you following shortly after to serve her.
And the next day, right at nine AM, the bell above your door rang, and in came the boy that had been the cause of your racing heart all week.
"Here I am"
"You're the worst"
"You say that, but you're smiling"
"Shut up"
He giggled as he followed you to the back of the building, teasing you more about how you were accepting his help anyway.
"I was hoping you wouldn't show up, but I guess since you're here I might as well get the help"
It wasn't true, you were up all night trying to decipher if he was actually going to show up. You even got out your cute apron and put some extra effort into your appearance this morning.
"I would recommend putting this on"
You toss him an apron to protect his clothes, going behind him and tying a nice little bow. He ignored the way his body tingled where your hands brushed it, and your breath hitched when he turned you around to do the same thing.
"This is my job Hee, I could tie it myself"
"I know," was all he said, letting his hands linger on your waist as he turned you back around to face him.
He tucked a few strands of hair behind your ear, his face a little bit too close to yours.
"Whatcha doing?" Your voice came out as a whisper and the way he smiled made your heart beat even faster then it already was, something you didn't think was possible.
"What do you want me to be doing?"
You gave a small laugh, throwing your arms behind his neck and angling your head up to get closer to the tall man above you.
"Does this answer your question?" You asked, referring to your previous actions.
"I think it's a pretty good indication" he spoke through a smile, leaning down to brush his lips against yours softly.
It was barely a kiss, absolutely no pressure from either end, but the butterflies in your stomach absolutely erupted at the contact, and you couldn't even try for an actual kiss because of the huge smiles on your faces.
"Did you feel it?" He whispered, and even without an explanation you knew what he meant.
A giggle left your lips, "yeah I felt it".
A jingle sounded as someone walked in the store and you pulled away from him to go serve the customer.
He was standing against the counter when you walked in, still just basking in the feeling of what had just happened.
"Alright lover boy, time to get to work"
He smiled at the nickname, coming up to you and spinning you around once, before speaking.
"Yes chef"
You laughed at his antics and gave him directions on how to help you start the tart shell.
By noon you were well ahead of schedule, the playlist you had chosen now blaring as you screamed the lyrics together, flour dusted over your faces as you took a break from kneading the dough for the twists.
"Thank you for this"
"Helping you bake?"
"No, everything else too"
He smiled and pulled you back in, this time for a real kiss.
That night you both went home early so that you could get up early for last minute party prep, after a goodnight kiss (or two, or three, or four...) at the your front door.
"Okay I'll see you tomorrow"
"Can't wait"
He hesitated to pull away from you, not quite wanting to leave, but you pushed him lightly.
"One more?"
He puckered up and you laughed giving him one last kiss before running into your house, hearing his whines through the door.
"Okay baby, I'll see you tomorrow"
You almost screamed when the nickname left his lips and you could hear the laugh he let out when he heard your squeal from the other side of your door.
**
"You can go to the back room, there will be another girl in there and a changing station set up, guests are starting to arrive now"
You listened to the other worker speaking, trying not to show how tired you were after finishing all of the baking that morning.
Following her instructions, you headed to the back room to change out of your sweats and into something more presentable for the party. By the time you had exited the back, you could hear the chatter of people and could tell the party was starting.
They started by giving a small speech about how well they had done that quarter, thanking all of the employees for their work and their families for supporting.
Within 30 minutes you were carrying out trays of your pastries, everyone mostly finished with dinner and some random business video was playing in the front of the room.
You walked out to stand along the wall with the other miscellaneous staff people working the event, and watched as they moved on to giving out awards for things like "best costumer service" and "highest sell rate". The entire time you were looking around for Heeseung, trying to spot him over by some lanky guys who looked like interns, but no luck.
"Alright now that all of the awards have been passed out, an important announcement from CEO Lee"
You looked around trying to spot the man in question, eyes eventually landing on an old man, grey hair and a pinstriped suit, as he used a cane to lift himself out of the chair and up to the stage.
You spotted Heeseung then, sitting at the same table the old man had just left, along with an older looking woman you assumed to be CEO Lee's wife, and another male that looked to be a little older than Heeseung.
You thought about trying to get his attention, but the CEO soon started speaking, and your eyes were pulled away from him.
"As I think we all know, I'm not as young as I was when we started this business," there were a few laughs from around the room, and the man waited for them to be done before moving on. "I don’t want you to worry, I’m perfectly healthy, but I, along with my family, have decided that it would be best for me to step down from the company."
Murmurs erupted throughout the room, and it was enough to tell you that the employees had no prior knowledge of this decision. You look over to Heeseung to gage his reaction, but instead of surprise or confusion, his face is laced with something that looks more like... disappointment? You decide it must be the lighting that's obscuring his actual expression, since that wouldn't make much sense.
"I will be retiring within six months, and my son, I know you've all seen him around the company," the female population seems especially excited about these words, a few turning to make faces at each other, you even hear one say 'hot boss' to her friend.
"Heeseung, please come up here"
You can hardly conceal your shock as you see your Heeseung stand up from his seat and go to the front of the room.
You furrow your eyebrows as he stands next to who you now realize must be his father.
"Heeseung will be taking over the company after my leave"
Your eyebrows shoot up as the words register in your mind.
Heeseung is going to be CEO of this giant company within 6 months.
Maybe you should have been mad that he lied to you, that he hid this part of himself from you. He definitely didn't tell you the position of his father, or the fact that he was going to be coming into said position, but you found yourself realizing that you didn’t really care.
'That's one hell of an internship' was the first thing you thought, and you laughed at yourself for it.
When you zoned back in to what was going on, Heeseung was ending what you figured was a short speech about him taking over, and you clapped along with the rest of the crowd.
His eyes met yours and you swore there was relief on it when he saw you let out a "whoo" along with a few others.
Heeseung steps down from the podium, taking a few hands that were held out to him, giving handshakes and responding to comments from men in high up positions.
You were called to the kitchen to pack up the few pastries that weren't needed, and the loud conversing of voices faded with the closing of the door.
You smiled giddily at yourself while transferring tarts to boxes.
'I can't believe I'm dating the new CEO'
Wait-
We're you dating the new CEO? Technically you'd never gone on a date or at least one that you called a date. And he had never asked you to be his significant other. But you kissed? Multiple times.
"What is going on in that pretty brain of yours?"
You almost dropped the tart in your hand you were so surprised by the voice. A quick look reveals the person that had you so zoned out in the first place.
"You were thinking so hard it looked like smoke was about to come out of your ears"
You can't help but laugh at his words, finally continuing your actions of packing up the food and thinking up a lie.
"Just thinking about how my little intern became CEO in a week," worry crossed his face, but it disappeared immediately when you continued, "you must have been an AMAZING intern"
He laughs and moves next to you to help.
"So I might have lied a little bit"
"A little bit?"
You raise your eyebrows at him and he corrects himself with a laugh.
"Okay it was kinda big, but I just didn't want you to treat me different or anything"
He gives you his big doe eyes as you place the last pastry in the box, sealing it up to be taken to your car.
"Hee, you know I'm not mad right?"
"Really?"
"Yeah"
He smiles, and you realize too late why he's coming closer to you, your feet leaving the floor as he spins you around.
"Hee, Hee, stop" you laugh out, and he finally puts you back on the ground.
"Okay, so you don't hate me"
You cup his face, leaning in until your noses are almost touching.
"Correct, I don't hate you"
"Then in that case," he backs up and you pout at the increased distance.
He takes your hands in his, looking at you in a way that has your knees about ready to collapse.
"Would you want to be, my official official, girlfriend?"
You giggle at how he seemed to have the perfect timing, pulling on his hands to finally plant a soft kiss on his lips.
"I would love to"

Speak Now pt.II
Tumblr media
He helps you take the box of leftover pastries down to your car (even though it was barely two pounds and you could definitely carry it yourself).
“Well I'm going to get ready to leave, but you have fun for the rest of the party, okay?"
"Wait nooo"
"No what?"
"I don't want to be here without you!"
"Well I can't stay"
"But I can leave" the mischievous smile on his lips makes you want to kiss him again, but you stay firm.
"You're literally going to be CEO, you can't just leave"
"Sure I can, I'm the boss now, I can do whatever I want"
"No Hee-"
You couldn't even get the rest of the words out before he was throwing you over his shoulder, putting you in the seat of your car, buckling you in and then running to the other side to get in himself.
"Home we go"
You let out a resigned sigh, putting your key in the ignition.
"Yeah, my home"
You spent that night hanging out in your living room, eating the leftover pastries from the party and watching Netflix, eventually cuddling up in your bed and falling asleep.
When you woke up the next morning you were met with the creeper stare of Heeseung, almost screeching in fear, not used to waking up with someone else there.
He laughed at your reaction, pulling you back into his arms and placing a kiss on your forehead.
"I could get used to waking up to this"
His words made a smile break out on your face, but all you said was, "only if you stop staring".
The next two weeks go by way too fast, lunch breaks and weekends spent exclusively with each other.
When the bell on the door sounds 15 minutes before your usual lunch break, you turn excitedly, expecting to see your boyfriend.
Instead it was a lanky looking guy in a suit, definitely not the type of person to come into your cute bakery for a snack.
"Hello, how can I help you"
You greet him politely, but he ignored it, instead getting straight to the point.
"I need another order for the HYBE company"
"Oh, okay"
You wonder why this guys was sent this time instead of Heeseung, but you ignore it, taking out your order cards to write down what they needed.
"Alright, what can I get for you"
"Wedding cake"
You ignore his short response, excitedly writing down the order. Wedding cakes were your favorite things to make, working with the couples and getting to take part in their special day was your favorite part of your job.
"Perfect, would you like to set up a tasting and design session for the couple? I'll also need a rough head count"
"Yes. Friday at 11:00, and it will be about 1000 people"
With that he turned and left, not even bothering to check if you were free at the time and date he gave you.
You rolled your eyes at his rudeness, putting the order in a safe spot in the kitchen and preparing to complain to Heeseung about how rude that guy was. You couldn't wait to tell him about the cake.
Except Heeseung never showed up.
You checked your phone, seeing a text that said he wasn't allowed to leave the building for lunch today because of something.
You tried to shrug off your disappointment, just sending a "that's okay, just make sure to eat and I'll see you tonight ❤️".
He didn't respond to that text, or send you anything else the entire time you were at work. You also did not see him that night, because he never showed up to the movie night you had planned out.
And it didn't stop there. He barely texted you for the entire week, and he never showed up for your scheduled after work dates.
By Friday you were barely dragging yourself out of bed, everything seemed so much harder when you didn't have the excitement of knowing you were going to see Heeseung to push you forward. You missed him.
But you got up anyway, this time you had something else to be excited for. You hoped the rude man who made the order wasn't going to be there for the cake tasting today.
You showed up early at the bakery, putting the batter you had made last night into pans and baking them off so you could have them cooled and frosted by the time of the appointment.
At 11:00 sharp you heard the jingle of your door, and you shouted out a reassurance that you'd be right out to get started, only to be told that they weren't even ready because the groom wasn't there yet.
A female voice asked where the bathroom was and you gave her the easy directions to the door. You were cutting pieces out of each cake when you heard the voice again, this time conversing with a male one.
"Why isn't he here yet?"
"I'm sure he's just busy at work, he'll be here very soon"
"Mr.Lee, I think it's pretty clear that this wasn't his idea"
"I don't know what you mean"
"He doesn't want this"
Whatever the man's response was, you didn't hear it because they moved away back to the main room.
The conversation just left you confused. Why would the groom not want a cake tasting? You get to eat a bunch of different cake, what could you not like about that.
The "ring for service" bell sounds from the front of the store, very shortly after the door bell sounds and you exit the kitchen, coming face to face with Heeseung's father.
It makes sense that he would be there, after all the company was paying for the cake, so it was probably a close colleague or something.
"We're ready" was all he said and you ignored the bad feeling in the pit of your stomach, just nodding your head and going to the back to bring out the first flavor.
"Uh, what's with the-"
You waved with the plate to the two people in the center of the table, each one with a tied cloth behind their head.
"We wanted it to be a surprise so we blind folded them!"
You looked at the overly excited woman next to the groom, trying to hide the concern on your face, simply giving a tight lipped smile and placing the plates down.
That's.... weird. Why would you blindfold the couple before coming to a cake tasting, I mean unless you didn't want them to know the bakery or something, but that wouldn't make sense either.
"Okay!! Take the blindfolds off!!"
They did as they were told, reaching behind their heads to untie the fabric as you circled around the table to stand in front of the group.
"So the first kind is a plain yellow cake"
You look over at the couple first, ready to explain the benefits of the seemingly simple flavor, only for your words to get cut off in shock.
"Hee?"
The groom looks up from his seat and his eyes go wide. Even with the much larger size, you would recognize those eyes anywhere, the nights of endless conversation and mornings waking up to find them already on you. It was definitely your Heeseung.
"Y/N"
He barely even looks at you before turning to his father, betrayal written all over his face.
You felt the same.
"Oh you know my Heeseung?"
It was the same woman from earlier and you cringe at her words.
"Yeah, you could say that"
"Y/N can I please talk to you?"
You nod your head, ready to suggest going back to the kitchen, but his father quickly cut in.
"There is nothing to talk about. Not anymore"
Both of you look in surprise, and realization sets in.
This wasn't some dumb mistake, he had planned this out.
Heeseung kicked himself for not being honest with what was going on, all of the times that he missed your dates because he was fighting with his father about the "arrangement", the way he still wasn't done, and wasn't planning on stopping anytime soon.
Marrying some random girl because she was the CEO's daughter of some other big company was not in Heeseung's plans.
But of course you didn't know that.
There's another old man at the table, this one on the side of the young woman who asked for the restroom. He speaks as well, and it's quite clear that he knew there were other motives for this trip.
"Look, these two are getting married, end of story. Are you going to make the cake or not"
You took another look in Heeseung's eyes, the tears welling up in them matching the ones in yours.
"No," they have the audacity to looked shocked at your denial, like they didn't try to hire you to make your own boyfriend's wedding cake. "I'm sorry, but I cannot make this cake for you, I would be happy to point you in the direction of some other great bakeries"
The last man who spoke rolls his eyes and let's out a dramatic sigh.
"No thank you, I have plenty of better chef's to hire, I only came today because Mr.Lee thought Heeseung would want it"
You gape at the conceited tone of the man, and if your mind wasn't so overwhelmed with the sadness of finding out your boyfriend was marrying someone else, you probably would have told him off.
"Okay, well you do that then" was all you could muster up as you made your escape to the kitchen.
Heeseung tried to follow, but was stopped by his father.
You barely noticed the sound of shuffling chairs and muffled arguments as the party of six left.
As soon as you made it into the solace of your kitchen, you were on the floor.
You felt dramatic, sinking down against the cabinets to sob over a boy.
But in your defense, out of all the boy issues you were preparing for, your boyfriend marrying someone else was not one that had ever crossed your mind.
You felt like all of the joy you had felt in your time with Heeseung was now coming back, inverted into sadness and loss. And that was a lot, becaude he had made you very happy.
The thought itself broke your heart more as the tears refused to stop.
You don't know long you sat there, but by the time you haul yourself off the floor, eyes dry from lack of hydration more than anything else, it was already dark outside and way past your normal closing time.
That night you were unable to sleep, the absence of Heeseung's body next to yours even worse now that you knew he wouldn't be coming back.
The next day you didn't even bother showing up to work, instead staying home and eating the cake you had made for the tasting.
A friend you met at the party shows up on your social media and your eyes get teary again at the sight of the wedding invitation she had received.
It was set for next month on the 10th.
You fall into a puddle of tears again and a single thought of "what if I can never get over him" passes your mind, because the way Heeseung had made you feel was something no one else had ever been able to, and you knew that he was your one match.
It was that thought that kept you occupied for the next few weeks, and that thought that had you pulling up to an event center you'd never heard of on the 10th.
You walked in through the entry way, trying to be as unsuspicious as possible, making your way into the main room and ducking in behind one of the many swaths of purple tulle decorating the room.
A quick scan of the room tells you the rough headcount was accurate, there has to be at least 1,000 people on the benches around the room.
It made you nervous and you weren't sure why. To be completely honest, you weren't sure why you were there in the first place. Maybe you were searching for closure, a finality that would come from seeing the wedding yourself. Maybe you were hoping Heeseung would see you and back out.
No, it couldn't be that. Especially because at this point you were terrified of anyone seeing you. It had to be the first one, although you were quickly regretting it as you realized you'd have to see the man you loved reciting forever vows and kissing someone else.
'Maybe I should just go'
You see the same older couples from the tasting make their way down the aisle and take a seat at the front of the room, recognizing Heeseung's parents and realizing the rude man and the woman with him must be the brides parents.
You also realize then that it's much too late to escape.
A few keys from an organ are played and you see the start of a procession of bridesmaids and groomsmen as they come down the aisle.
You tuck further into the fabric, and the pairs make their way down the aisle much too fast for your liking.
Before you know it, the boy you'd fallen head over heels for is trudging down the aisle, and you take a little bit of pleasure in his dejected stance.
The music changes, and you're not sure if it's your amateur pallete for piano music or if you were just projecting your feelings about the event onto the music, but it sounded more like a death march than a happy wedding song.
And it truly was a death march. This wedding was the death of yours and Heeseung's love story. Once they said I do, it was over for you.
And that wasn't something you could just accept.
Your mind was made up before you even realized it. Maybe it wouldn't work, but you couldn't just give up on the man you had fallen so hard for.
"We're gathered here today to witness the union of two people, Miss Han Yuna and Mister Lee Heeseung"
You realize that was the first time you'd actually heard the brides name, and you almost feel bad because all this time you'd never actually thought of her as a person, more of just a pothole in your road to happiness.
But surely she wouldn't want to marry someone who was in love with another. And you had to believe that Hee was still in love with you.
"If anyone has any objections as to why this couple can not be married, please speak now or forever hold your peace"
Heeseung's head looks away into the crowd as if he were looking for someone, or at least that's what you choose to believe so that you don't chicken out.
There's silence for a moment and then you realize you need to speak now or the priest is going to move on.
You move away from your spot hidden in the shadows of the curtain, walking your way out to stand at the back of the aisle. You can feel your hands shaking as everyone's eyes turn to face you, horrified looks on their faces.
You ignore their glares and focus your eyes directly on Heeseung's.
"Um, I object"
It comes out much less confident then you mean it to, and you square your shoulders back to try and portray the confidence you're lacking.
'Fake it till you make it i guess'
You swear Heeseung smiles a little bit and it gives you courage to keep chugging on. Except you never really planned what you were going to say so now you're just babbling like a child.
"Look uh I'm not really the kind of person that just ruins weddings, and I'm sorry to Yuna that I am, but I think it's pretty obvious that this isn't want either of them want"
Both the bride and groom look at each other shortly before returning their heads in your direction, and you can tell you've hit the nail on the head.
"So uh I object to this wedding on the grounds of neither one of you should marry the wrong person"
"Now excuse me-"
You see Mr.Lee and who you now know has to be Mr.Han both stand up and you fear for a moment that they're going to hit you or stick security on you.
"No"
Both men turn to face the altar where the word had come from, and Yuna stands tall in her spot.
"No, don't you dare try and salvage this. You knew Heeseung didn't want this but you pushed him anyway. It's clear that he's in love with that girl, and I'm not standing in the way of that, so you better not try to either"
She pushes her groom and he stumbles tightly, realizing what she was pushing him towards.
You.
He bounds down the aisle, practically throwing his body to be close to yours again, pressing a gentle kiss on your lips and mumbling out words as he tries not to separate.
"I'm so sorry this happened, I never wanted to leave you, and I swear I won't ever again, just" he breathed deeply, trying to get as close to you as possible, "just- we can run away together okay? We can do it right now"
You tried to peak around his head to see the two angry CEO's that probably hate you now, but Heeseung blocked your view with his head.
"I don't care about them baby, just us, look at me okay? If you want to we can" he seems to contemplate for the first time that maybe you didn't want to, and he quickly scrambled to cover it "I mean unless you don't want to, that's fine too I mean-"
You shut him up with another kiss, snaking your hand down to latch onto his, whispering a "let's go" against his lips.
The smile you'd come to love so much, the same one that drew you in on the first day, spreads across his face as he runs out of the event center with you trailing along behind him, neither of you looking back to check what anyone else thought.
That night, before you went to sleep wrapped in Heeseung's arms, he said one last thing to you, that made the whole mess worth it.
"I'm so glad you were around when they said speak now"
