Current Top 10 EXO Songs

I'm counting their subunit/solo songs as eligible--I'll specify when a song isn't from EXO as a group! Though, I did stop myself from putting literally every song from Kai's first two albums on here--I can't be THAT biased (even though I totally am).

1. Gravity

This song is the high of dancing all night--and it's a great song for dancing all night to. This is only above "XiangJiang River" because of sentimental value, but "Gravity" EARNED that sentimental value. It got me through a lot, and for good reason :)

2. XiangJiang River -- Lay

Yes, this is here on a technicality (Lay is like barely in EXO at this point), but it's too legendary to miss--this is on my personal greatest songs of all time list.

3. Artificial Love

For such an icy song, this should not be as catchy & memorable as it is. Everything the YouTuber mera said about Aespa’s “Savage”, that’s what this song is to me.

4. All I Got -- Baekhyun

I think what makes this song breathtaking is how classic it feels--this feels like a cover of a song I've been hearing in the car since I was a little kid, so Baekhyun going absolutely WILD over it with the vocals doesn't feel overwhelming at all! It's a perfect match--such a simple song with the luxury & excess that is Baekhyun's vocal style. If you like Demi Lovato's "You Don't Do It For Me Anymore", I would highly recommend this song!

5. Baby You Are

Somehow, I don't even mind the awkward rap section anymore--I've listened to it enough times, just for that gorgeous instrumental, that now I love everything about this song, even against my better judgment.

6. Ride or Die -- Kai

The peak of the Kai album aesthetic, and this whole album was already top-tier aesthetic. It's dark, but like in the way it's dark when I switch off the overhead lights and turn on my tiny lamp before bedtime--it's dark like peace, like rest, like a break from the light. And I guess that break was much-needed, because this album is one of the few I enjoy as a concept & unit, not just as some individual songs--though "Ride or Die" is something special, what with that bass.

7. Stay Up -- Baekhyun feat. Beenzino

Remember what I said about luxury & excess being Baekhyun's vocal style? "Stay Up" is another PERFECT use of his talent--just listening to this song feels like I'm taking a vacation day; or spending a little extra money on something fun; or falling asleep on a weekend night, knowing I don't have to set an alarm for tomorrow. Maybe that isn't luxury to everyone, but for me that feeling is EXQUISITE. Needless to say, I love this song.

8. Wait

A nice little ballad for the winter :)

9. White Noise

This is SUCH a weird song, but the way it totally doesn't work, or only maybe kind of does, is what makes it one of my favorites--it fascinates me in the way Red Velvet's "Cool Hot Sweet Love" does, like it's only barely holding itself together by some kind of magic but it ends up being super awesome anyway?? Also that opening is a CLASSIC.

10. Peaches -- Kai

I might think "Ride or Die" is a better song now, but this is the song that sold me on Kai as an artist. After hearing "Peaches", I understood completely the appeal of a discography based on this aesthetic, atmospheric, soothing music--deep soundscapes and soft, bittersweet melodies. Though "Amnesia" was the first Kai song I liked, "Peaches" is the one I can credit with putting him in my top ten artists list. The vision is so strong in this track, and I'm completely sold.

I can't stop thinking of Hyeseong's reaction after she overheard Suho's conversation. She fell apart in that moment and I am so grateful screenwriters decided to show exactly what a person should do - get up and leave without looking back.

I'm obsessing over that scene, when she ran away into Jun's arms, not because this is evidently a build up of another romantic pairing in the show, but because if I were in Hyeseong's shoes, overhearing my boyfriend's conversation, I wouldn't react at all to it. I'd go back to my seat, horrified, and pretend nothing happened. I'd internalise guilt and self-resentment for being unwell. My self-confidence would sink to the bottom of an ocean in that moment. I'd blame myself thinking I'm awful for "not functioning properly."

Watching her run into Jun's arms, I couldn't care less about the romantic aspect of these scenes, but I do care about their deeper meaning.

I didn't like Hyeseong at first. At all. I found her quite irritating and would sit thru her scenes impatiently, thanking dear god once they passed. But you know, seeing her smile being wiped off her face in this week's episode made me have such a drastic change of heart. You know how they say what we dislike in others is a reflection of ourselves. That realisation hit me like a truck with her character. It made me look deeper into myself, again.

Surrounded by cynicism, one starts to suffer the whims of other's will. Day by day. That can only lead to self-destruction...unless one starts fighting it back and ignoring all the lowly people. And everything is alright until one day it isn't anymore. Until you start sobering up. One day you wake up hating yourself, your mind, your heart, your body, you hate the people who put their best effort into shaping your way of thinking and living. No matter they could never change your essence, they still left you with deep scars and clipped wings. You're left not wanting to wake up in the morning and not wanting to go to sleep in the evening. You're left with a growing black hole inside yourself. And you don't have a best friend like Jun to comfort you when you slip and bruise yourself, you have people who will laugh at that. You have people you're better off without. So you do just what you're supposed to do. Get yourself up. Dust yourself off. Fight your inner demons. Every. Single. Day. Until you win. And then you do it all over again. You learn to live, not because of certain things, but despite them.

Ohh the Xfiles fandom is old school. I've watched a couple seasons always meant to get back to it. Are you still active in those fandoms? I was on tumblr as a high schooler primarily for doctor who, harry potter, star trek. That was quite long ago although I still follow doctor who sometimes.

I have a couple friends who are big BTS fans, and I was super into classic rock at the time and they both sent me the Dynamite mv which IS a great way to hook a 70s fan into kpop. Since then I've gotten into a whole bunch of groups: SHINee was probably first. I'm also big into WayV (veryy excited for their new comeback the teasers look gorgeous!) Pentagon, Day6... Do you follow/listen to any other groups?

I can’t believe you saw SuperM in concert!!! that’s amazing. I have been to one kpop concert (BTS) and it was SO much fun. ugh to see Baekhyun live… but yesss you're right he is almost back! (and we're just not gonna talk about kai and sehun enlisting) Do you think Exo is going to have a comeback soon then?? Trying not to get my hopes up too much haha but I think it's what the world needs.

I really liked Grey Suit too! (Morning Star made it surprisingly high in my spotify wrapped, but Hurdle was the favorite for me). I will definitely check out the live session MVs! I love anything that highlights their vocals (and any time they lean into the superpowers).

Favorite Baekhyun songs are probably Amusement Park, Betcha, Privacy, UN Village. My favorite Exo solo album overall is probably Kyungsoo's though.

When I had covid, I luckily never fell ill, but I tested positive and this was pre-vaccine so there was (understandably!) even more precaution. But no symptoms! I just stayed inside and binge watched tv and tried to learn how to play guitar.

Omg, how lucky you are to have seen BTS in concert! Trying to get tickets are always sooooo crazy! A friend of mine tried to get tickets once and couldn’t.

Besides EXO, I really enjoy TVXQ, NCT and all their subunits.

Maybe us fans can manifest a EXO comeback after Baekhyun comes back from his military service. Crossing fingers!

I am so glad you didn’t have bad symptoms of covid. I also loved Kyungsoo’s solo album, but second to Suho (of course, hahaha) I loved Kai’s first solo album. His 2nd solo album was good, but I really enjoy his first one.

It’s hard for me to choose certain albums for a few of my favs so I hope you don’t mind me going off their greatest hits albums. Some of my fav artists and their greatest hits albums are Bruno Mars, Keith Urban, Maroon 5, and for Taylor Swift her two albums: 1989 and Midnights.

I was very involved in the Arrow/Olicity fandom when the show was on air, but not very much these days. As for The X-Files I still love all the fandom creations (gifs, edits and fanart). They will always be my OTP of fandoms.

Were you excited about the Dr Who’s David Tennant surprise return? I think it might have broken tumblr when it happened. Hahaha! I loved him in BroadChurch.
