Sunset Concert Series Continues into September!

With most of the other summer concerts in the Valley coming to an end last week, the Sunset Concert Series is still marching on! Each Saturday night through Saturday, September 28th, the Theater in the Wood welcomes amazing musicians to the Sunset Concert Series presented by Moat Mountain Brewing Company. 

This coming Saturday, September 7th, The Blues Project takes center stage! The Blues Project is an all-star lineup featuring Cliff Goodwin & Diane Blue with members of Peter Wolfe Band, Peacheaters, Shadow Riders and John Butcher's Blues Project. Cliff Goodwin, a super six stringer, has played with legendary artists such as Joe Cocker, Robert Palmer and Jon Butcher. Diane Blue is probably the best voice in Blues music today and is a member of Ronnie Earl and the Broadcasters.

The following Saturday, September 14th, the Theater in the Wood is excited for Studio Two: Beatles Before America! Studio Two, a Beatles cover band like no other, will take you on a musical journey through the club years and straight to the top of Hit Parade. Come sing, dance, and be transported back in time! The Sunset Concert Series will also be featuring the Rustic Overtones on September 21st and finally The American Rogues to conclude the series at the end of the month!  A wide variety of beverages from the presenting supporter, Moat Mountain Brewing Company, will be available for a donation. Tickets may be purchased online up until showtime the day of each performance.  General seating for each concert is $20 in advance or $25 the day of.  Premium seating is $25 in advance or $30 the day of the event.  Members of Believe in Books Literacy Foundation save $5 on all tickets! KS Arquitetos completes stilted Mirador House overlooking Brazil's Lake Guaíba

Brazilian studio KS Arquitetos has designed a home in Porto Alegre that is elevated on stilts so that it peers over the treetops and out onto Lake Guaíba.

Mirador House was built on a steep slope overlooking Lake Guaíba, a waterway in southern Brazil.

To accommodate this terrain, KS Arquitetos built the house on steel stilts.

"The concept of Mirador House arises from the idea of a house that floats at the level of the top of the surrounding trees," said the studio, which is based locally.

The property was built on stilts above a concrete music rehearsal studio

Two volumes form the narrow house and are connected by an elevated catwalk for convenience.

The first, closest to the street, contains the garage above a storage room, while the other contains the resident's living spaces. Altogether, the house encompasses 850 square metres.

A long ramp leads down two levels from the street onto a covered patio envisioned as the home's main outdoor gathering space.

"This route leads first to the atrium, a large space under the social area which reveals an incredible view," said KS Arquitetos. "From there it is possible to access the house, or continue down through the trees towards a secret beach, where a strip of sand and rocks touch the Guaíba."

A black steel staircase leads from this covered area into an open-concept kitchen, living and dining room that occupies the entire breadth of the second volume.

Tucked away from the living area is a home office, which overlooks the ramp down into the home.

Within this space, KS Arquitetos used a stark palette that includes the black-painted structural steel, exposed breeze blocks, and wood floors.

"The large openings of the residence are like frames for the landscape," said KS Arquitetos. "When the windows overlooking the lake are open, the sound of silence is only interrupted by the chirp of birds."

On the top floor are four bedrooms, each with an ensuite. This level is at the same elevation as the garage, providing a secondary access route into the home.

From the main outdoor space underneath the home, another flight of stairs leads to a room built partially into the site's slope, which is used as a music studio.

This exposed concrete volume stands out from the rest of the structure, in addition to providing some separation between the rehearsal space and the rest of the family.

Other homes in the city of Porto Alegre include a house that was laid out to accommodate a centennial fig tree and a duplex loft with a sculptural black staircase at its centre.

Sunset Concert Series presented by Moat Mountain Brewing Company!

The Theater in the Wood in Intervale, NH will be the prime location for you to jam out to some amazing bands this coming summer! Believe in Books Literacy Foundation is proud to announce new this year: The Sunset Concert Series presented by Moat Mountain Brewing Company! Over the course of 9 weeks, enjoy many different artists each Saturday evening beginning on August 3rd and continuing through September 28th.  Doors will open, at 7:00 pm with performances beginning at 7:30 pm. The Sunset Concert Series will begin on Saturday, August 3rd with August First, who is not your typical Jerry Garcia tribute band while they play traditional, originals, bluegrass, classic rock, and blues which define their style as Blues-Grassicana. The following weekend, August 10th, we enjoy a visit from Erin Harpe & the Delta Swingers who has been called “one of the most dynamic, talented and exciting roots rocking blues women on the scene.” The Series continues with an array of diverse artists.  Ceili Rain, a number of local MWV artists, and Entrain join the lineup for the month of August.  Rolling into September, we look forward to visits from The Blues Project featuring Barry Goudreau (formerly of Boston), Studio Two, Rustic Overtones, and The American Rogues. Each performance of the Sunset Concert Series will be held at the Theater in the Wood, a secluded theater located in the 100-Acre Wood in Intervale, NH. The Theater can house up to 300 concert-goers and offers free parking.  The Theater is also a BYOB facility so guests are welcome to bring their own choice of beverage and rock out each Saturday night! We are so incredibly excited to host all of these awesome artists and to bring live music to the MWV every weekend in August and September.
