Poll 5: At the bottom of the pond
A/N: A big thank you to everyone who's voted and made suggestions so far, I was really surprised at how many people joined in. Apologies that I've not moved as quickly with it as I'd have liked. Special thanks to @afoolandathief and @tsiimo for naming Elodea.
The start of the story:
Under the slimiest sludge at the bottom of the pond, there lurked a despondent jester. The discerning reader may notice that this was quite unusual behaviour for a jester, as jesters are not known for their skill with swimming. What you should know, curious reader, is that our jester is not like any other jester. Our jester is the one and only Elodea Lemnoideae.
Elodea fulfilled the usual jester roles; dancing around court politics, entertaining the royal family, being funny but not so funny that the monarchs decide to relieve their laughter by sending you to the gallows. They also had a few tasks that didn't quite fit into their usual job description, tasks that seemed to lead them to the slimiest sludge at the bottom of the castle pond an unpleasant amount.

What is story time with Spud about?
Honestly? Silliness.
Do you remember when you were little and you had a 'choose your own adventure' storybook where different decisions would lead you to different endings? This is a bit like that, except that we're doing it collectively.
I'm going to start writing a story and you guys are going to choose what happens next. The ridgidity of the polling timeframe means I can't really set a schedule, but I'm trying to post regularly.
The posts may be a sentence or a ficlet, lets see where the mood takes us.
To get involved just vote on a poll or comment on a post and read what comes out. Check the most recent polls on the blog for the ones that are still open.
If you want to submit suggestions or want to write some of what comes next then let me know (give me a bit of warning though).
Read the story so far here.

Poll 7: The dolls next move
Except that on this particular day the royal family's haunted doll was stood on the bank waiting for them to return.
Those not acquainted with the House of Lavender may not understand what a haunted doll would want with a court jester. The distressing thing is that Elodea themself wasn't sure what the haunted doll wanted with them. It had taken to trailing around behind them, a high pitched tune wailing from its gold painted lips. Not a single curl had fallen out of place as it had slowly followed Elodea to the pond. It stood there now, just waiting for them to resurface, which they were going to have to do at some point.
Elodea tried their best to make it to the other side of the pond without a ripple, feeling very smug as they snuck out, creeping up the bank towards the sanctuary of the nearby trees.
Thanks to @ahordeofwasps for coming up with the haunted doll!

Poll 6: Who is stood on the bank?
The pond was the only place Elodea knew of where they could find a delightful variety of carefully cultivated poisons. It was hard to see through the mud and pondscum, but if you knew where to search there were some veritable treasures.
There were unassuming little pink mosses that killed instantly on contact with your eye. One of Elodea's favourite plants was a specific kind of leaves, barely distinguishable from dock leaves, that would kill you in roughly four weeks time if eaten raw. Not to mention the toad that excreted a substance that could burm flesh when it was mixed with vinegar.
Usuallly, Elodea loved their little pond garden. There wasn't anything more calming and relaxing than diving down into the reeds. Except that on this particular day the royal family's ... was stood on the bank waiting for them to return.
Post in the replies who's stood on the bank!
