The Trees are part of the Squid's Plan! (major main quest spoilers)
After spending way too long playing through the new quests in SSO, I've come up with a theory. A real long theory. That the Life Wardens are siding with both Dark Riders and Soul Riders in order to repair the Wild Weave and reconnect with one another, inadvertently helping the Dark Riders to free Garnok.
Lemme explain.
Tumblr media
This is the map in the Fort Maria portal room. It shows the seven major Life Wardens that we know of, but it also gives us some clues about the story going forwards.
First, the obvious.
Tumblr media
Yeah, there's no way that little illustration in the corner is anything but Ol' Squiddy's Tentacles. But we knew he was imprisoned between worlds, in neither Pandoria nor Jorvik - so finding out he's been chilling in the Wild Weave, or a location only accessible by it, makes sense.
Tumblr media
Next, when it comes to putting a name to each of these trees I think most are fairly self explanatory. We've known about most of these trees for years, even if they've never been a part of the story, such as with the Ice Tree by the Stonecutter's Vault in Dino Valley, and the Unnamed Tree way up near where you finish the Red String Trail in the Firgrove Mountains.
Where it gets interesting is with the two trees I couldn't place; such as the one between the Sentinel Tree in Mistfall and the Ice Tree in Dino Valley; and the one on the far left, signified by floating islands.
In my mind it makes sense to have a couple of the trees sprouting in Pandoria, since the two worlds are connected by the tree roots - and the only floating rocks I know about are in Pandoria - but who knows.
Tumblr media
Overlaying the normal map on top of these locations makes it pretty clear that they're supposed to correspond to real map locations. The only anomaly is the Ice Tree and Sentinel Tree, whose positions are reversed on the portal map.
What's interesting is that Garnok, if I'm following the map's logic correctly, would hold exactly the same positioning as the Dark Core Oil Rig.
(For context, we know the Rig's position from old skybox errors that used to show it when stood in the right spots, some maps from the books (which I know aren't always canon anymore, but hey it's the best we've got) and, most recently, if the player looks South when entering Devil's Gap, thanks to that little black hole we helped Sunshine open up recently.)
Tumblr media
Where am I going with all this? Okay!
Firstly, we know that the trees have helped the Dark Riders in the past. The Life Wardens have repeatedly said the only loyalty they have is to each other, and quite frankly after what the Jarl did, who can blame them. (Thanks Jon).
This is going into massive spoiler territory for the most recent quest as of 17/1/24 so if you haven't completed it yet, flee.
Tumblr media
The Sentinel Tree in the Wildwoods has been corrupted by Pandorian magic for a while now. But in the newest quest, we saw Sabine using the Runesmasher to break into it and create a portal to free Erissa.
Side tangent about the hammer:
Tumblr media
For those who didn't play the Halloween quests, basically one of the Jarl's servants got the ice valley smith to make a hammer that could destroy runestones, broke one open, and a Vala witch gave him immortality. Aka. Sive (or an identical Vala witch), who is deeply connected with the Life Wardens and who probably gave Sabine the hammer when we saw her in Devil's Gap, has no problem with this action.
The Life Wardens, or at the very least Sive, their ally, wanted the portal opened and Erissa freed.
Why?
To re-grow the Wild Weave.
Tumblr media
Assuming Garnok's position on my map was correct, the only way the Dark Riders now have to free him is to go directly through the Wild Weave.
And since we're good people who like nature... yeahhh the Soul Riders are totally going to end up healing some trees and inadvertently opening the path to Garnok wide open.
Tumblr media
Oh yeah. We're going to mess up royally.

Hi! My name is Lotta, I'm working as the Lead Character/Creature artist at SSE.
A little while ago our game director Stacy Place made the announcement that we will start looking into breeding for SSO. In an interview she also mentioned a shader which will make it all possible.
I am the creator of this shader and currently I am one of the persons driving the development of  bringing breeding into SSO and trying to make it a reality.
Up till now I thought this was one of the highest requested features, hence my surprise when I saw the large number of negative comments and concerns you, the players, rose.
One of the biggest concerns I've seen is the gambling aspect. When I told Stacy, our game director, I had an idea of how to solve the coats for a breeding system the first thing she told me was "If we do this, we need to do it in a way so there's no gambling". We are still very early in development and have only started to look at the technical possibilities. Whatever this project turns into I can assure you, we will never make you to pay for any unwanted random generated horses.
Another concern I've seen is that this would be an act of greed on our behalf. I just want to assure you I’m not driven by greed but passion for horse breeding. Right now, we are limited to 7 coats for each breed, and I would like to change that. I would like everyone to be able to ride their favorite breed with their favorite coat. I also want to develop a fun, engaging and educational breeding system (I think the science behind genes is quite fascinating), and I want to make our horses much more diverse and unique from each other just like horses are in real life.
I would like to understand your concerns properly so I can bring it with me into the development, I have been looking into all conversations about the topic I've found and I’m trying to understand, Now I would like to hear it straight from you.
Please share your opinions and feedback with me <3
-What would you like SSO breeding to be?
-Based on your experiences from other games including breeding, what would you like us to avoid?
(Please bear in mind that these images are a work in progress and not the final product, they do not have the same level of polish as our regular coats yet.)
Kind regards
Lotta

“It’s not awkward for you to live there?”
At the end of the day, it was a free house, but you did not think Alex would accept that answer gracefully. She was right, after all, even if awkward did not fully capture it. Elizabeth helped raise Alex, whereas the druid was just a wise friend to you. The hours you spent together were in pursuit of knowledge and magic to save the world; it slipped your mind to ask her favorite color, or how she grew up. Those were details you learned after her end. (She liked green, and was shy as a child.)
It did not feel right to share the real answer with Alex; that sometimes you stared at the walls for hours, because you still had not redecorated, and never intended to, because she had filled every space on her walls with photos and trinkets. Everyone still referred to it as Elizabeth’s house, not yours, and you thought of it the same way. The house was spacious for one person, but you barely spent time in it. You were only there to sleep, when Linda had enough research to do that she did not let you stay over, or when Avalon was in one of his moods and locked you out for the night, or when even Ydris found you too boring or on-edge to play with.
Last week, Anne had asked you how long you had been on Jorvik, and was unsettled by how you stared at her blankly, unable to answer. A summer. It was only ever supposed to be a summer. It was funny, really, that when she described how time felt on Pandoria, you could almost relate—another thing you would never admit to.
After her release, you and Anne spent a lot of time together. As expected of two young adult girls, you were often found chatting over coffee at the Firgrove cafe, or giggling over hair choices in the Goldenleaf salon. You both raised Concorde, though some days Anne had to take a break and remind herself that she really was retraining her horse as a foal, and this was not another Pandoric time-loop nightmare. In the beginning, Concorde stared at you, and reminded you that Elizabeth bonded with another incarnation of him. You told him you were sorry. He refused to listen to you for the rest of the day.
Anne once confided in you that she felt like the odd woman out in the Soul Riders, and after you understood her better, you told her the same. It was the first secret you let off your chest. There were only supposed to be four Soul Riders, but there you were—a poor replacement for Anne when you first started training, and now no longer a stand-in at all, but something else undefined. The druids did not know what to do with you. They kept you close, in Elizabeth’s house, trained you at the northern paddock, and gave you the missions any one of them could have handled in an afternoon. Alex, Lisa, and Linda treated Anne like she had never left, and you like you had always been part of them. Neither you nor Anne felt comfortable with it, but you could not blame them. They did not even notice they were doing it, and was that not beautiful? They saw the five of you as unbroken sisters, like you were invariably meant to end up this way. Neither you nor Anne would shatter that image. They drew strength from it, and with the ever-looming Garnok threat, with shadows around every corner, every bit of magic you could sap from one another was priceless.
Living in Elizabeth’s old house was a blessing. The druids did not exactly pay a wage for Soul Riding, but they did not make you pay rent to live in a poor dead woman’s house on their homeland, either. You could pay for food by helping out Farah, and anything extra you did around the island helped buy research books for Linda or even some new guitar strings for Lisa.
You did not need Elizabeth’s ghost to keep you company. Your horse was everything you needed, in the end, and you had your Soul Sisters to fill in the gaps. The druids supported you, and the grass in Jorvik grew only to carry your feet. Surely, any doubts you felt were spurred on by Garnok alone, Aideen curse him.
Yet, everything kept her alive. Concorde did not speak of it, but his eyes lingered on things that bled with her memory. The Soul Riders knew that when Alex could not be found anywhere else, she would be by Elizabeth’s grave in Doyle’s Abbey; often with Maya, usually practicing her lightning magic. She asserted that her mentor’s criticisms always made her better. The roses bloomed with the scent of her perfume. Your neighbor crocheted on a bench in Valedale using the yarn you gave them from Elizabeth’s extensive collection. The house creaked with the memory of her footsteps. You asked Fripp, hesitantly, if her spirit could still be around; you had to free lost souls often enough that it was a valid concern. He told you not to worry, but when you next came to her cabin, it smelled strangely of herbs and your fingers tensed with the presence of ancient magic. He did not bring it up again.
“No, it’s not awkward. I couldn’t imagine a stranger living in her home; could you?”
Alex smiled at that. “You’re right. I’m glad it’s you. You keep her alive.”
And that was the best you could’ve asked for, all things considered.

Is Dressage coming to Baroness' Racetrack??
HI! OKAY SO. A few months ago, the update after the Halloween update, I saw this picture in the news:
Tumblr media
When the update came out, I went and investigated and the dressage track prop, and that gazebo is NOT THERE.
youtube
Now that Dressage is officially in the game, do we think we might see it in other areas of the map? I think this might be a little hint that we might see it at Baroness's Racetrack next.

ATTENTION CONSPIRACY THEORISTS OF TUMBLR!
Been re-reading a couple of the old diaries, and stumbled on this in Bonny's Logbook #5.
Tumblr media
Little Bonny.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure we've never met another Bonny in the game...
Now yeah, this could easy be another dropped plot line, but that's a pretty weird detail to add into the journal if it wasn't going to be followed up on at some point. So let's have fun for a minute and guess.
Who on Jorvik is Bonny's secret clone child?

Found concepts for Hollow Woods. I don't know when this file was posted, but according to Victor's gallery, he uploads either concepts that were not approved (like the one with the Devil's gap concert scene), or concepts of what has already been released. Moreover, quite a lot of time can pass (the same concept with the scene in the Devil's Gap, according to the developers, was in 2018). But nevertheless, this means that work on updating Hollow Woods is really underway, although it is not known at what stage.
