Pop Team Epic Gets In Super Robot Wars X-Ω
Pop Team Epic Gets In Super Robot Wars X-Ω
Bandai Namco held this month’s Super Robot Wars series stream on October 3. We’re in the blank period of the year when it comes to SRW, so these monthly streams have stopped being monthly, and the last one happened in August.Series Producer Terada recently slimmed down a lot. He appeared on stream with a sporty outfit and mentioned he lost around 20 kilos since April. Not because of overworking…

Super Robot Wars Mahjong Could Actually Be Announced On August 1
July 21, 2020 11:04 PM EST
In a surprising move, Bandai Namco will hold a new Super Robot Wars live stream on August 1 alongside pro Mahjong players.
Bandai Namco announced via the Super Robot Wars Twitter account that the next Nama Suparobo Channel will be held on August 1. It’ll be a special stream in collaboration with the Japan Mahjong Federation, focusing on online Riichi Mahjong.
The stream will be held on August 1, at 2100 JST (Click here for a time conversion table). Besides Mahjong, it will also include the “latest news on the Super Robot Wars series”. This doesn’t necessarily means a new game will be announced though.
Present on stream will be Super Robot Wars X-Ω (Cross Omega) + Bandai Namco Producer Hiroaki Oochi. Together with Takashi Furuhashi, the duo will be commenting matches between Yukiko Izumi, Kozue Miyauchi, Rio Tojyo, and Daisuke Suzuki,  Furuhashi, Izumi, Miyauchi, and Tojyo are all Pro Mahjong players. Suzuki is a Pro Shogi player.
They’ll be playing on Ron2, the official online Mahjong site of the Japan Mahjong Federation.
youtube
It’s important to note another Super Robot Wars stream, was also announced, for late August:
尚、通常の生スパロボチャンネルも8月下旬に配信予定! 後日スパロボ公式サイトにて告知いたします!
— スーパーロボット大戦 (@srw_game) July 17, 2020
Series Producer Takanobu Terada will not be making an appearance on this Mahjong stream. This is the first time ever he’s skipping these streams as far as I know. It’s not like something happened to him though as he’s still regularly recording the SRW Radio Show, Umasugi Wave, together with Masaki Endoh, Mai Aizawa and Tomokazu Sugita. They started recording from home since a few months ago. Terada will definitely be on the stream late August.
Riichi Mahjong is incredibly popular in Japan. There are billion of Mahjong video games as well, most notably strip Mahjong games with sexual fanservice. The classic series Super Real Mahjong even recently got a new compilation this April on Nintendo Switch as well, but I digress. I’m honestly surprised Mahjong streams from Japanese developers and artists aren’t a thing already, especially during this pandemic.
The latest console games in the Super Robot Wars series are SRW V, SRW X, and SRW T, all available in English. SRW DD is also available in Japanese on mobile. For a very long time now, the series has been following a yearly schedule. However, no game was announced in late 2019 for a 2020 release. While I don’t have anything against the recent games, a break can’t bring any harm. I might be into SRW for 20 years now, I’m actually happy we’re not having a new game right now.
I’m guessing Bandai Namco is quietly working on the next game. Development definitely has slowed down too with the pandemic. With no game plus these critic conditions, I’m guessing the staff still wanted to hold a stream once in a while. And what’s the thing middle aged people in Japan like besides old mecha series? Mahjong. In fact, I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if they actually announced a Super Robot Wars Mahjong game. It’ll be in perfect touch with a big part of the series’ fanbase in Japan and the world in general.
The Super Robot Wars / Super Robot Taisen series celebrated its 29th anniversary on April 20, 2019. A special page was opened for the occasion. Backgrounds to be used by fans during video calls were published as well. Many Japanese studios did the same move these past months. Seeing we didn’t get a game in 2020, it’s all but officially confirmed a new game will be coming for the 30th anniversary of the series in 2021. One possibility for the occasion would be a new Super Robot Wars OG game.
In any case, we’ll bring you a summary of this stream as always.

Seems we Might Wait a While Till the Next Game
February 18, 2020 9:27 PM EST
Seems it’ll take a while till we get the game following Super Robot Wars OG The Moon Dwellers and its Alpha 3 plot.
Judging from what Producer Terada said in the latest Super Robot Wars stream, we might not get a new Super Robot Wars OG game in a while.
As you already heard by now, Bandai Namco held a Super Robot Wars stream on February 18. It most notably revealed Code Geass‘ Lelouch piloting Wing Gundam Zero Rebellion as the 2nd Crossing Pilot event in mobile game Super Robot Wars DD. And no new console game was announced, which is a good thing in my book. Anyway, during the stream, we also heard that the SRX piloted by Ryusei is joining Super Robot Wars Cross Omega, the other mobile game. This triggered an interesting discussion.
youtube
The first part of the stream focused on Super Robot Wars X-Ω (pronounced Cross Omega), and its newly added units, including SRX. Producer Terada mentioned how it’s been over 20 years since SRX first appeared in 1996. He mentioned that back when they made SRX, he purposefully picked really lame sounding names for its ultimate attacks. Nowadays, they feel even lamer so he’s ashamed of it. Kenji Akabane, one of the regular seiyuu on these streams, vehemently interjected and said the SRX is pretty cool, and Ryusei’s seiyuu Miki Shinichiro does a great job at making it cool. Akabane mentioned he was pretty sad when seeing the SRX gets wrecked in Super Robot Wars Alpha 3. So they started chatting about how SRW Alpha 3‘s story will hypothetically happen in an hypothetical new Super Robot Wars OG game. That’s when Terada mentioned that the SRX won’t necessarily get wrecked in the next SRWOG game and they didn’t decide whether to do that or not yet. This should be taken with a grain of salt, as it was said among banter and jokes, but this would mean they haven’t even finished writing the game’s scenario yet, meaning we won’t be seeing the next SRW OG game soon.
Personally speaking, I like the SRW OG series as much as the main SRW series and am looking forward to the next entry. The stream also featured the usual new mecha toys releases presentation at the end. Time doesn’t permit me to cover that but it was pretty nice and you should definitely take a look if that’s your thing.
Seeing we’re speaking scenario writing, this is also a good opportunity to bring up a theory. Souichiro Morizumi recently participated in writing an SRW OG-themed event in SRW X-Ω. Morizumi also had a hand in the SRW DD Crossing Pilot scenario with Amuro in Mazinger Z. I think this means there’s a pretty high chance Souichiro Morizumi is currently writing for the next SRW OG game too. So I’m betting on Reiji and Xiaomu getting in the game. Sure they’re Monolith Soft characters, but seeing it’s unlikely Project x Zone 2 will get a spiritual successor anytime soon, this could as well happen instead.
The three last main console games of the series are, in release order: Super Robot Wars V, Super Robot Wars X, and Super Robot Wars T. The last SRW OG game was Super Robot Wars OG The Moon Dwellers, released in 2016. We might hear more about the next SRWOG game in 2021, the 30th anniversary of the SRW series. I wouldn’t say no to a new anime adaptation directed by Masami Obari either.

Super Robot Wars DD Adds Lelouch Piloting Wing Gundam Zero Rebellion
February 18, 2020 8:11 AM EST
Code Geass’ Lelouch pilots Wing Gundam Zero Rebellion in the newest Super Robot Wars DD crossing pilot event.
Bandai Namco held on February 18 a new stream for the Super Robot Wars series. You can access the stream’s Youtube page here. These streams, called the Nama Suparobo Channel, are mostly monthly and feature new information on the ongoing mobile games Super Robot Wars X-Ω (pronounced Cross Omega) and Super Robot Wars DD, and new info on mecha toys. This is also where new Super Robot Wars games are announced, but no such announcement happened this time.  One of the biggest announcement, however, was the second Crossing Pilot event in Super Robot Wars DD. It features Code Geass‘ Lelouch piloting a new Wing Gundam Zero, titled the Wing Gundam Zero Rebellion.
Super Robot Wars series Producer Takanobu Terada explained the events which led to this crossover. Lelouch’s Wing Gundam Zero Rebellion was designed by Hajime Katoki. Jiro Taniguchi wrote the plot for the crossover scenario. Terada and the SRW staff wanted to do something with Lelouch and Wing Zero since they’re both “Zero”, so they asked Sunrise about it, who agreed, and gave them a lot of leeways. Sunrise also said it’s fine setting wise since technically Lelouch probably wouldn’t be able to pilot something like Wing Zero. Sunrise was also fine with changing the design, and Katoki was really into it, so he designed the Wing Gundam Zero Rebellion. It’s using the same coloring as Lelouch’s Shinkiro. Lelouch’s seiyuu Jun Fukuyama, when recording the dialogue, mentioned he’s pretty happy to be piloting a Gundam. Overall, Terada explained the event wasn’t that easy to do and it was only made possible thanks to a lot of coincidences.
Heero piloting Wing Gundam Zero also appears in the Crossing Pilot’s event story. Yuki Nagaku said she wanted to become a seiyuu after watching Code Geass, and she ended up starting a dumb improvised contest with Kenji Akabane on who’s the biggest Code Geass nerd. It was pretty fun to watch.
As a reminder, Crossing Pilot events are standalone side stories in SRW DD. The first one featured Amuro Ray piloting Mazinger Z.
The trailer for Lelouch’s Wing Gundam Zero Rebellion can be found below. A special illustration featuring Heero and Lelouch with the two Wing Zero was also published.  The artwork was drawn by Tomofumi Ogasawara, the mangaka of Mobile Suit Gundam Wing Endless Waltz: Glory of the Losers.

Super Robot Wars Series Stream Coming February 18
February 17, 2020 5:31 AM EST
We probably won’t get a new Super Robot Wars game announcement on this stream but it’ll be fun as always.
Bandai Namco announced the next Super Robot Wars series stream. It’ll be held on February 18 at 21:00 JST (Click here for time conversions). You can watch it on YouTube and on Niconico.
It’s unlikely a new console game will be announced, but it’ll be fun as always, with the reveal of new series in mobile game Super Robot Wars X-Ω (pronounced Cross Omega) and new info on Super Robot Wars DD.
The stream will feature the usual people: the usual comedy duo, the Producers including Takanobu Terada, and the seiyuu Kenji Akabane. Two other seiyuu will also appear as guests: Yohei Azakami who voices SRW DD‘s protagonist (and the protagonist in Sakura Wars PS4), and Yuki Nagaku, who voices Meg in SRW DD.
These SRW streams, titled the Nama Suparobo Channel, are monthly when a new console game was announced and about to release, but are a bit irregular when no new game was publicly announced. We’re in the later situation right now, and the last stream wasn’t in January but on December 12, 2019. That stream most notably revealed a new update for Super Robot Wars DD, adding a World 5 with a new Original character named Eunice Airy along with the first Crossing Pilot event: Amuro Ray in Mazinger Z. You can read more details here.
As a side note, Eunice’s character designer Keiji Yamamoto/Chou Niku shared an illustration of her after she was added to the game on December 26:
遅ればせなが12/26に実装されましたスパロボDDのワールド5に登場するキャラクターのユニスをデザインさせて頂いておりますので、様何卒どうぞごひいきに。https://t.co/0Sbq1TFrPl pic.twitter.com/ahIw2zgxz3
— 超肉 (@cho29) December 29, 2019
That’s all you needed to know.
Now, if you wish to hear my Unneeded Opinion, while I believe the latest game, Super Robot Wars T, is amazing, it’s nice that the series is taking a break, and I really hope we won’t get a new game announcement on this stream either. The series has been following a schedule of one main game a year for six years since the release of Super Robot Wars Z3.1 on 2014. This is also the first time the SRW series is taking a break since its games have been officially available in English via Asian releases, starting Super Robot Wars OG The Moon Dwellers in 2016.
The three last main console games of the series are, in release order: Super Robot Wars V, Super Robot Wars X, and Super Robot Wars T.
SRW V and SRW X are available in English via the Asia versions on PlayStation Vita, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam. However, the Steam Asia English versions are region-locked to Asia Steam. Super Robot Wars T is available in English via the Asia versions on PlayStation 4 and Switch. A Steam version wasn’t announced yet, but the game sold really well so it’s only a matter of time until it happens. If you’d like to get into the series, remember that all these three games are 100% standalone, like most Super Robot Wars games without a number in their titles. So it’s fine to start with whichever one suits your taste in terms of mecha series.
We’ve been extensively covering Super Robot Wars streams on DualShockers, and this stream will be no different.

Super Robot Wars DD Next Update Adds World 5, Amuro Ray Piloting Mazinger Z
December 12, 2019 10:09 AM EST
Aldnoah Zero gets in Super Robot Wars. Amuro Ray in Mazinger Z is the first new Crossing Pilot event, written by Takanobu Terada and Project X Zone’s Souichiro Morizumi. New toys revealed.
Bandai Namco held a new Super Robot Wars stream on December 12. This is also where new Super Robot Wars games are announced, but this time’s stream didn’t have a new game announcement. In fact, they kept joking through the stream that Producer Takanobu Terada doesn’t have much to say this time. The biggest and most shocking announcement was SRW DD adding Amuro Ray piloting Mazinger Z.
The stream started with the SRW Cross Omega corner, where it was announced Jushin Liger, and Gundam Build Fighters Battlogue are the next time-limited additions to the game. Code Geass first season is also coming back for a time-limited event to celebrate Lelouch’s birthday.
They also chatted about the upcoming Project Sakura Wars/Shin Sakura Taisen time-limited event in SRW Cross Omega. New illustrations were specifically made for it, seen above. A short trailer showing each member of the New Flower Division was shown too:
youtube
SRW Cross Omega is a mobage, and just like most mobage it uses sexual fanservice to sell , so they funnily added a breast bouncing animation to Sakura Amamiya’s cut-in. Seijuro’s seiyuu Yohei Azakami was present too, and he stayed the whole stream seeing he also voices SRW DD‘s protagonist. During the stream, Terada again mentioned how he often gets mixed up with Sakura Taisen producer Takaharu Terada, and how people tend to say even their voices are similar.
Next was the SRW DD corner, with Producer Red making multiple announcements, shown in the trailer below.
youtube
First off, Super Robot Wars DD is getting its first major update, adding a World 5 with new series.
Martian Successor Nadesico: The Prince of Darkness
Invincible Steel Man Daitarn 3
Gundam Wing Endless Waltz
UFO Robo Grendizer
Aldnoah Zero
This is the first time ever Aldnoah Zero is appearing in the Super Robot Wars series.
A new OG girl named Eunice Airy was also revealed. She’s voiced by Misaki Watada and designed by Keiji Yamamoto, under his pen name Chou Niku. Eunice is an excellent software engineer and is a positive-thinking woman. She’s the OG character in World 5 and is piloting a Graphdin like the other girls.
Terada said Eunice is older than she looks and not a loli character. Misaki Watada, while chatting about Eunice, accidentally read the profile she got for the audition, spoiling Eunice is an alien or related to aliens.
Terada also mentioned you can’t see it on Eunice’s illustration and it probably won’t be seen in the game, but her outfit has high back exposure. They joked that maybe they’ll do a back-focusing cut-in for her. Terada also said in the first draft Chou Niku did, you could pretty much see all down to her butt, so he told him to change it a little. Misaki Watada said she likes Eunice’s design and how cute it is, especially the ribbon. It’s also her first time ever voicing a mecha pilot character, and the first role where she had to shout so much. Watada also asked if she could tweet about Eunice right away now that she got officially revealed, making the others tease her about being a “Reiwa person”. Kenji Akabane mentioned himself and other seiyuu at her age didn’t have the guts to ask something like that during a stream.
The trailer also revealed Super Robot Wars DD will add Masaki Ando and Cybaster. Just like with Kyousuke, Masaki got a new illustration by Sachiko Kouno. It’s the first time in a while she drew Masaki.
Lastly, the trailer reveals Super Robot Wars DD is getting brand new events called Crossing Pilot events. For the first time ever, the Super Robot Wars series will make a playable character from one series pilot a playable mecha from another completely unrelated series. The first Crossing Event will be Gundam’s Amuro Ray piloting Kabuto Kouji’s Mazinger Z.
Producer Terada explained the Crossing Pilot events. Amuro has specific lines for the event which Tōru Furuya recorded. Crossing Pilot events will be standalone stories with no relation to the main story of SRW DD. Moreover, each story will be kept pretty simplistic, but it’ll still be interesting. Terada wrote the story himself, with advice from Souichiro Morizumi, who used to work on SRW OG games in the past, took a break from the series, but is now back on SRW since 2019. Souchiro Morizumi used to work at Monolith and was also the producer of Namco x Capcom and all its sequels/spiritual successors: Mugen no Frontier SRW OG, Mugen no Frontier Exceed SRW OG, Project X Zone, and Project X Zone 2. As a side note, Mugen no Frontier Exceed recently got a translation patch.
Akabane jokingly said he wanna see Gundam OO‘s Setsuna pilot Mazinger Z too so he’ll say “I am Mazinger Z”. Terada said he shouldn’t have expectations that high. Seeing they picked Amuro Ray in Mazinger Z as the first event, I believe he’s hinting that they’ll only do the most iconic crossovers possible.
Next was the toys corner, where they showed some of the upcoming Sakura Taisen HG toys, and announced new Soul of Steel toys. I won’t be translating the details for each toy but those interested can find screenshots below.
The stream ended with the “I hate when this happens in SRW games” corner by the comedy duo MCs. It’s the first time in months they did that.
When everyone said their goodbyes, Terada said he doesn’t yet when the next SRW stream will be, meaning there shouldn’t be one in January 2020. Just like I hoped, the SRW series seems to be taking a break from yearly releases.

Super Robot Wars Series Stream on December 12 Might Reveal a New Game
December 9, 2019 9:22 AM EST
We might get a new Super Robot Wars game, a new SRW OG, or hopefully, no announcement besides SRW T on Steam and the series will take a break.
Bandai Namco announced the next Super Robot Wars stream will be held on December 12, at 21:30 JST (click here for time conversions). Moreover, there are many hints pointing at the fact that a new Super Robot Wars game should be announced on this next stream.
The stream will feature the usual people: the usual comedy duo as the MCs, SRW series Producer Takanobu Terada, SRW Producer Shohei Mogami, SRW X-Ω Producer Hiroaki Oochi, SRW DD Producer Akaii, the Bandai Spirits toys people, and seiyuu Kenji Akabane who voices SRW X-Ω ‘s protagonist. As guests, the stream will also feature seiyuu Yohei Azakami, who voices SRW DD‘s protagonist, and others, unannounced guests.
Nowadays, the Super Robot Wars series has at least one new console game a year, and these games are usually announced on these streams, in November or December. I’m personally hoping for a new Super Robot Wars OG game, or actually no new game announcement, so the series can take a longer break.
I’m also hoping for no new game yet because another announcement that has a high chance of happening is a PC Steam port of Super Robot Wars T, currently available on Switch and PS4. The two other games before it were already announced for Steam, Super Robot Wars V is already available, and Super Robot Wars X will be on Steam on January 10, 2020. The English versions, however, are only on the Southeast Asia Steam. Getting another game announced immediately now will make things a bit crowded in my opinion.
One thing for sure is that we’ll hear about the next time-limited addition coming in SRW X-Ω. Anything goes nowadays. The Witcher 3 actually got in Daemon x Machina so what if it turns up in SRW too. I’m personally still waiting for Pretty Rhythm to be included.
As a side note, if a new Super Robot Wars OG game is announced, we’ll see who is replacing Yuuko Mizutani to voice Excellen Browning and Alfimi. Yuuko Mizutani sadly passed away in May 2016. She was extremely talented and did tons of roles from the Japanese voice of Minnie Mouse to Mihoshi in Tenchi Muyou. As another related note, the seiyuu of Captain Harlock, Makio Inoue, sadly passed away on November 29. He was Captain Harlock’s Japanese voice since the very first anime adaptation in 1978, and he was particularly happy to voice Captain Harlock again for his apparition in Super Robot Wars T. There will definitely be a tribute to him during the stream.
In any case, we’ll be summarizing the whole stream as always, and will tell you as soon as possible if a new SRW game is announced.
