Things to consider when choosing hospital furniture and supplies
Unlike home furniture, hospital furniture and supplies are manufactured & distributed by certified professionals. Hence, picking the right one can often be challenging. This article outlines some qualities to consider when selecting hospital furniture and supplies.
Distributor It is crucial to consider your supplier or distributor when buying hospital furniture & consumables. Ensure that you choose a supplier with a reputation for supplying top-quality equipment to healthcare centers in your country for many years. Purchasing these items will ensure that you get the best value for your money and that they meet industry standards.
Fast, safe delivery & after-service In addition to ensuring efficient delivery times, following safety procedures & after-service is vital. Check if the provider or distributor can guarantee on-time deliveries. The labeling and instructions on using all products should be appropriate and ensure that all products are packaged safely with no damage.
Technology & connectivity Besides improvements in equipment, technological advancements have facilitated greater workplace efficiency and the development of communications systems. They must be explicitly designed for different purposes while improving patient safety and operational efficiency.
Cost-effectiveness The cost should be taken into account when purchasing. Despite not wanting to sacrifice quality for the price, taking advantage of competitive prices is essential. Look for manufacturers, suppliers, and distributors who can provide reasonably priced quality items. Everything you need in one place will reduce overall costs due to convenience and affordability.
Product portfolio Look at the customer base, the product portfolio, and the company's years of experience. This will ensure that your products are made to fulfill the demands of the ever-changing and expanding medical needs.
Consider these key elements when purchasing furniture, medical equipment & consumables for your hospital or healthcare facility. These tips will help hospitals make informed decisions that will benefit them in the long run.

ISRAEL REALTIME - noon Nov 8 🇮🇱
"Connecting the World to Israel in Realtime"
▪️CONCERNS… (Amit Segal, Ch. 12) From PM office announcement, “meeting with the heads of the authorities in Judea and Samaria is taking place today as part of a visit by the War Cabinet to the Central Command, in view of the security officials' warning of a serious security escalation in Judea and Samaria.”
▪️IDF ON THE MOVE… Enemy sources report online that IDF tanks are inside the Ansar outpost in southern Gaza City (Tel El Hawa area).  According to them, this indicates that the front of the foot soldiers is already much deeper inside Gaza City.
▪️EXTREME PALLYWOOD… a bit surprised at the EXTREME OBVIOUS staged photos from Gaza, yet being published in mainstream media as real.  Photo 1 - 10 children run towards camera (away from ‘bad things’).. area dusty, children clean, in the background group of men smoking drinking coffee not very worried about bad things.  Photo 2 - man spontaneously holds his head screaming near rubble in clean white t-shirt, whoops 2 different photographers on opposite sides of him caught in picture.  Photo 3 - man holding child (child with clean white undershirt) running away from ‘bad things’ through burnt tree branches, with a crowd (with a man with clean white t-shirt) behind him who is casually walking the other way.
I’m sure there is real horrible things happening, but EVERY GAZA HAMAS PICTURE IN THE MEDIA is FAKED, MANIPULATED, or AI.  Every.  Single.  One.  https://nypost.com/2023/11/06/news/israels-ground-invasion-ramps-up-as-gaza-death-toll-surpasses-10k/
▪️ROCKET STATS… The percentage of successful rocket interceptions is over 88%.  About 9,600 launches from 4 arenas since the beginning of the war.  David’s Sling intermediate range interceptors scored 60 interceptions for the system with 100% success.  And 2 Arrow long range interceptions, one noted as the first-ever live interception of a missile in space.
▪️WORKERS… (A portion of the Israeli economy operates using lower-cost foreign workers, in construction, farming, elder care, and some basic jobs at restaurants among others.  Palestinian and Gaza workers filled many of these roles.)  Minister of Interior MK Arbel, "We signed a very important agreement with Sri Lanka to receive thousands of workers.”
▪️TEL AVIV CITY… The Municipality decided to budget about NIS 50 million for the construction of protected areas in the municipal kindergartens where there is no protected area.
▪️WORLD POLITICS… US SEC STATE “There is no possibility that Hamas will continue to rule Gaza. A transition phase is needed after combat.  Israel cannot manage/control Gaza and its captains have informed us that they have no intention of doing so.”
▪️ISRAELI POLITICS… Justice Minister calls meeting of Committee to Select Judges, the delay of this meeting being one of the primary controversial issues in Israel prior to the war.  It will meet next Thursday at the office of the Minister of Justice in Jerusalem.

A Scandal in Bohemia
This is the first of the short stories to be published in The Strand. The character was of course clearly established by this point in A Study in Scarlet and The Sign of the Four, which were both serialised in other magazines.
Holmes as aroace - we've got some pretty clear textual implications here. Baring-Gould's belief Holmes and Adler became lovers is rather unfounded, IMHO.
Trincomalee is a port city in what is now Sri Lanka. That would have been a rather long trip for Holmes!
A "slavey" is a maidservant. Watson's wife has let her go for incompetence.
Egria seems to be a mis-rendition of Eger, now the Czech border town of Cheb. Albrecht von Wallenstein was a mercenary commander on the Catholic side in the Thirty Years' War, considered one of the most successful mercs of all time - until he got caught plotting against the Holy Roman Emperor (seemingly trying to negotiate a peace deal behind his back) and was assassinated by his own commanders.
Carlsbad is now Karlovy Vary in Czechia. The German name is used by no less than three American cities.
There was a King of Bohemia, but it was one of the titles held by the Austro-Hungarian Emperor by this point. Franz Joseph I did have a long-standing platonic relationship with an Austrian actress, but was otherwise pretty restrained by the standards of European monarchs.
One popularly cited inspiration for Adler is Lillie Langtry, an American actress who was one of the then Prince of Wales' many mistresses and had a very interesting life, including being the first celebrity "endorser".
A brougham is a four-wheeled carriage with an enclosed compartment for four passengers and an open seat at the front for a driver plus footman. Named after a politician called Lord Brougham.
"Adventress" is a euphemism for courtesan. The king is implying Irene Adler is a high-class prostitute.
The Victorians themselves frequently viewed ladies acting is not that far removed from prostitution and certainly quite a lot of actresses at least dabbled in that.
A prima donna is the leading female performer in an opera company. They had a reputation of being well, prima donnas, hence the term becoming common.
A "cabinet" is roughly equivalent to a 4"x6" photo in size. Not hugely easy to conceal.
A grand in upfront expenses? No wonder Holmes could afford to stage an entire street fight!
A landau is a convertible carriage - the roof can be lowered. They're commonly used for ceremonial occasions, such as royal weddings.
The Inner Temple is one of the four Inns of Court - a professional body for barristers and judges: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inner_Temple
An ostler was someone who looked after the horses of someone staying at an inn.
"Nonconformist" is a term, falling into disuse now, for Protestants who do not belong to the Church of England, such as the United Reform Church. They were discriminated against, although to a lesser degree than Catholics and nearly all the legal restrictions had gone by 1888. They became a major voting bloc for the Liberal Party and later Labour, with the Church of England historically being "the Tory Party at prayer", although the latter has moved a good deal to the left economically under recent Archbishops.
Women playing male parts - especially young male parts - became a thing in the Restoration period i.e. the reign of Charles II when women were finally allowed on the stage and became rather popular due to the fact these ladies were wearing tights or trousers... so, yeah.
By the late Victorian period, it was still pretty common in burlesque (not that sort!) and pantomime; the tradition of the 'principal boy', a male panto lead character, like Aladdin or Dick Whittington, played by a young woman has gotten rare, but is still a thing. Oh, yes it is, just ask Bonnie Langford.
1880s evening dress was modest by modern standards, it seems.

An organiser of a "white party" in Sri Lanka has apologised after the event sparked a backlash online.
The event's advertisement specified a white dress code, but also had a line saying "Face control: White" - which was largely interpreted to mean the event was open only to white people.
An organiser later said the event was "a bad idea", adding that it was meant to bring together expatriates.
The party, which was due to take place last Saturday, was cancelled.
Backlash against the event was swift, with many on social media calling it "disgusting" and "racist".
"I know not all expats are like this... but this sort of thing should be stopped fast and stopped hard," said one local restaurant owner.
"How dare they come to a brown country and ban the people of that country," another social media user said on Facebook.
Writing on Instagram under the handle geo_ecstatic, a man who said he was an event organiser, said there was "no malice or racism" in planning the party.
"We wanted to meet expats who have been living here for a long time and love Sri Lanka. The team... supported me and a joint decision was made to quickly organise a party," he said, adding that he has since had to leave the country after receiving a barrage of abuse and threats.
"I didn't expect this to be such a sensitive moment for a huge number of people. I admit that it was a bad idea... and I understand that we created it ourselves out of our stupidity. I deeply apologise to everyone whose feelings were hurt."
The event was due to be held in the Sarayka Lounge in the southern coastal town of Unawatuna. The venue later posted a statement saying the party had been cancelled, adding that its staff team " did not conduct a thorough-enough check" and have "severed ties" with the event planners.
"We have never supported and will never support various racist statements or organisations," they wrote.
The organiser as well as the owners of Sarayka Lounge are believed to be Russian citizens.
Rupasena Koswatta, president of an Unawatuna entrepreneurs' association told BBC Sinhala many Russians have moved into Unawatuna, a coastal city just 5km (3.1mi) from Galle, in the last two years.
Many of the tourism businesses there are now owned by Russians in the area now known by many as "Little Moscow".
The Russian Embassy in Colombo later released a statement saying it "strongly condemns all forms of racial discrimination and nationalism" and urged citizens residing on the island to follow its laws and respect local customs.
Later on Sunday, Sri Lanka said it had ended long-term tourist visa extensions for Russians and Ukrainians. More than 288,000 Russians and nearly 20,000 Ukrainians have travelled to Sri Lanka since Moscow's invasion of Ukraine, according to reports. But the country's President Ranil Wickremesinghe later reportedly said the decision was made without prior Cabinet approval.

National Herbs and Spices Day
A day to bring tons of flavor to everyone’s plates, National Herbs and Spices Day brings out the best taste in a vast array of dishes. From the daily salt and pepper to the more exotic saffron or black cardamom, herbs and spices offer the essence of seasoning to everyone’s table.
And National Herbs and Spices Day is the perfect time to celebrate!
History of National Herbs and Spices Day
People have been using herbs and spices to flavor their food probably since history has been recorded. Some of the earliest ideas guess that hunters would use leaves to wrap their meat in, and discovered quite by accident that the leaves gave the meat a certain type of flavor.
As time went on, more and more plants were discovered to be aromatic and flavorful, as well as often having other beneficial properties. Spices were discovered when the roots, leaves or other parts of plants were dried, then ground and used in cooking. Spices have also been used medicinally all throughout human history.
Ancient Egyptians are recorded to have used cinnamon, poppy and mint, while some early Chinese influences also mention the use of cinnamon (cassia), nutmeg, cloves and many other types of spices. Ancient Mesopotamian sources reveal that thyme, sesame, cardamom and coriander were important.
Throughout history, spices have been considered a valuable commodity and were even used as currency during some time periods. At one time, nutmeg was worth more than its weight in gold. Cloves were often given as bonuses to London dockworkers. And peppercorns were demanded as ransom in the 410 AD capture of Rome.
Beginning in 130 BC the “Silk Road”, was an important way for spice traders to get their wares from the East into the West, particularly between Greece and China. For more than 1500 years, this network of routes contained trading posts, thoroughfares and marketplaces strategically placed for travelers and traders.
Eventually, spice companies began to develop, bringing exotic and unique herbs and spices from far off places, first for the wealthy or royalty and then, eventually, to the common person. Today, just opening a person’s kitchen cabinet can introduce a collection of fragrant and flavorful spices and herbs that likely originated from all over the world!
Enjoying these and learning more about them is the perfect way to celebrate National Herbs and Spices Day!
National Herbs and Spices Day Timeline
2800 BC First mentions of cinnamon in Chinese writings
Native to Ceylon, what is now Sri Lanka, some mentions of cinnamon are made in the Cantonese language where it is known as “kwai”.
1500 BC Spices are used medicinally in Ancient Egypt
Papyrus documents note the use of fennel, caraway, coriander, garlic, mint, onion, poppy and peppermint in medical treatments.
1773 Spices replace black tea in America
With the political problems surrounding the Boston Tea Party, Americans begin making their tea from herbs and spices like lemon balm, sage, chamomile, spearmint, sassafras, and others.
1889 McCormick and Company is founded
This Maryland based spice company starts with door-to-door sales with storage in founder Willoughby McCormick’s basement. It will go on to become the largest spice and seasoning manufacturer in the world.
1897 Bram Stoker’s Dracula is published
With 21 different mentions of garlic, this novel brings to the forefront the legend that vampires have a deep aversion to this root herb.
How to Celebrate National Herbs and Spices Day
Observing National Herbs and Spices Day involves a tempting array of foods, whether cooking them, eating them, or both! Try out these ideas for celebrating National Herbs and Spices Day with the people you love:
Check Out a New Herb or Spice
Get healthier and more adventurous when you try out some new herb flavors instead. Some of these are rather versatile while others are very specific spices that work in certain dishes:
Turmeric. Anyone who has tried cooking dishes originating from India may have experienced turmeric. Also called curcumin, this bright golden colored spice is a relative of the ginger family that can be used to add flavor to curries, relishes, soups, pilaf, vegetables and much more.
Herbs de Provence. A blend of 5-6 different dried herbs, including rosemary, thyme, basil and more. This delectable combination of herbs brings out the full flavor of meats when used as a rub and also works well on grilled vegetables or meat dishes.
White or Pink Pepper. Most Westerners are familiar with black pepper, whether whole or ground, and use it fairly regularly in their cooking. But white pepper is a spice that is traditionally used Jewish or Asian cooking, and it changes the flavor of dishes quite significantly. Pink pepper is similar, but has a slightly sweeter flavor.
Get Healthier Using Herbs and Spices
According to a 2015 study, replacing salt with herbs and spices can cut a person’s daily intake of sodium by almost 1000 mg each day. This type of dietary reduction can help to minimize certain health issues such as high blood pressure, which is a major risk factor for stroke and heart disease.
Not only does substituting herbs and spices help reduce sodium, but certain types of herbs and spices can also help to reduce inflammation and minimize damage to the cells in your body when eaten on a regular basis.
Turmeric, cardamom, cinnamon, garlic, chili peppers and cumin are a few spices to get started with incorporating into a healthy diet.
Try Growing Your Own Herbs at Home
Whether outside in the garden or in some potted planters inside, growing herbs at home can be an amazing way to enjoy and celebrate National Herbs and Spices Day using fresh, homegrown items.
Some of the easiest to herbs that can be grown in the backyard or in a container garden at home include:
Basil. This versatile herb can be used in a variety of dishes, including pesto, tomato sauces and vinegars. Or it can be served fresh with tomatoes and mozzarella to make a caprese salad. Plant basil in a space that gets a lot of sun and has well-draining soil.
Mint. Useful in a variety of ways, mint is so prolific that many people like to grow it in containers to keep it from spreading and taking over the whole garden. With more than 600 different varieties, like peppermint, spearmint and chocolate mint, you’re sure to find one you’ll love to put in your iced tea or summer salads.
Parsley. This flat-leafed herb grows easily and is a delight to use for cooking soups and other dishes, as well as placing on dishes as a delightful garnish. Plus, even if it is grown outside it can easily be dried and kept to use over the winter months.
Rosemary. This one grows more like a shrub than a plant. It’s a woody evergreen that offers delightful aromas and loves to be in full sun. Rosemary is an herb that is also known to be healthy for the memory as well as being a mood booster.

How Sri Lanka’s economy destroyed itself
Our island neighbor is bleeding. With the annual inflation at 18.5% in March 2022, the story of Sri Lanka is heartbreaking, traumatic and unsettling. The truth about the country is that it has fallen into a debt trap due to poor governance, corruption and of course, a lot of foreign debt. And now, it is the people who have to suffer. While one is reading this from the comfort of an air-conditioned room, people in Sri Lanka stand in queues that extend 2-3 km long even just for food, fuel and medicines.
How bad is this Economic Crisis?
Going through its worst economic crisis since 1948 when the country gained independence, the prices of essential items in Sri Lanka have sky-rocketed. The price of a kg of rice was ₹290, and that of sugar is ₹240 in March end.
Citizens have to stand in long queues for hours even to get essential. The people have to face daily power cuts of more than seven hours in the scorching heat. The administration recently had to cancel the school examinations because of country’s failure to import paper.
Tumblr media
The 5 main reasons which led to this crisis
1.       Shortage of Foreign Reserves
The alleged economic mismanagement of successive governments led to depletion of 70% of Sri Lanka’s foreign reserves with only $2.31 billion left with debt repayment of over $4 billion. Sri Lanka’s high dependency on imports for essential items further adds fuel to the economic meltdown because the island nation lacks foreign reserves to pay for its import bills. The country could face a trade deficit of $10 billion this year.
2.       The pandemic effect
The island nation's huge dependence on tourism and foreign remittances took a serious due to COVID-19 pandemic. Tourism, which accounts for over 10% of the Sri Lankan GDP, was hurt after it lost visitors from three key countries namely India, Russia and the UK.
3.       Russia-Ukraine war-induced inflation
Crude oil prices hit a record high in 14 years with prices soaring over $125/barrel at the height of the crisis, as the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war resulted in steep price inflation of crude oil, sunflower oil and wheat. But helped by supplying 40,000 MT of diesel under a promised $500 million line of credit and also supplied over 2,00,000 MT of fuel in the last 50 days so far.
4.       Agri sector crisis
On a sudden day, the President decided that the whole country’s agriculture be turned organic, thus banning all synthetic fertilizers and pesticides that was to be done over a period of 10 years. This drastically impacted the production volume, and the efficiency got reduced by 20 to 30%,consequently severely hitting the country's farm production.
5.       President’s promises
The President of Sri Lanka, Gotabaya Rajapaksa, in his presidential campaign, promised that he would cut down the Value Added Tax to half, with the motive of increasing consumption among the citizens, as reduced taxes would encourage increased spending. When he won, he put that money where his mouth was. But the timing was ill-fated as after three months of execution of this, Covid-19 happened. Thus, the cut down in taxes led to the government saw a major revenue loss.
How has the Sri Lanka responded to the crisis so far?
Sri Lanka declared an economic emergency to control food supply amid soaring inflation in September 2021. The country also had devalued its currency and imposed import curbs on many items to prevent further depletion of its forex reserves. It had partially revoked the fertiliser ban as well. Sri Lanka has approached the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for debt restructuring and a possible bailout.
Conclusion
Huge piles of foreign debt, soaring inflation, depleting foreign currency reserves, devalued currency – Sri Lanka is the breathing, living example of everything that could ever go wrong with a nation's economy. However, it remains to be seen whether the desperate political measures like a new cabinet, resignation of lawmakers and changing the central bank chief will help Lanka salvage the economy that's currently in neck-deep in crisis. In addition to the above measures, the Sri Lankan government sought aid from the US, India and China. India has extended a $1billion line of credit for the supply of essential commodities already and financial assistance of $2.4 billion has also been provided by our country since January. Let’s just hope that the “Go Gota Go” protest by Sri Lankan citizens comes to fruition.

reading this haaretz piece on Israel's war economy (not great, but not gonna collapse anytime soon - we gotta work harder to maximize the chance of collapse) and found this insane bit;
"Both the building and agriculture sectors are facing severe labor shortages because the cabinet has refused to allow the West Bank Palestinians to return to their jobs in Israel. In the building sector alone, that amounts to some 90,000 workers, or about a third of the total labor force. Close to half of all construction has ground to a halt. In the farm sector, another 10,000-20,000 Palestinians have been barred from working in Israel, making it hard to complete harvests.
The cabinet's far-right ministers refuse to budge on the issue of Palestinian workers, saying they would present a security risk (although for their constituency,  they have approved Palestinian workers in settlements). Instead of Palestinians, the plan is to bring in tens of thousands of workers from India, Sri Lanka and Uzbekistan. To date the numbers to arrive have been paltry."
I already knew that Palestinians are a large part of the workforce for stuff like construction, industrial, & farm work, especially in the settlements, and that settlers & super-religious groups like the ultra-orthodox (and these often overlap) receive all kinds of carve-outs and welfare that the rest of Israeli society doesn't. but the far right, settlement-based ministers collapsing the rest of the Israeli economy, that's just insane, there's no way this is sustainable socially.
