i have no fucking clue how to draw furries but i did my best. i tried so hard and i had fun. anyway here are the fursonas for the somaverse kids per this post here. ayda's is the design i'm the shakiest on because she'd be the most serious about her design and idk how to design furries. when getting ayda to design their possum fursona seven specified that they were looking for a lester's possum park kinda vibe. asim's used to be bigger but ayda kept drawing him smaller and smaller. achlys was SO EXCITED coming up with their design with the furry council because that's them! that's kinda them! :)

rereading some old somaverse posts and remembered the bit about achlys not getting to experience the ten years he was trapped and only getting the memories of that period by proxy from eating maverick's soul (plus cash's soul, plus like a year from some rando he ran into along the way to murder cash since he was starving). ez had pointed out that he would only have those perspectives of that time frame since he wouldn't have lived it out in real time and had the chance to form his own opinions etc. which could have Consequences considering uhhhhh the last ten years irl

now that i know cash and maverick better, i know cash was absolutely right-leaning. he just gives me that vibe. and more focused on hunter stuff than the rest of the world. maverick i think didn't care about politics or world events, like yeah he experienced stuff but he was also a spoiled kid who didn’t care about most people, from a moderate family. so i think achlys would get a BIT of a better perspective with mav but not by much. mav didn't fucking pay attention to things outside of how it affected him.

i just like the idea of achlys having to unpack shit in ~2023/whenever. having to do research into shit because he doesn't trust his stolen memories, accidentally repeating propaganda or just real biased shit because that's the info he can mentally pull up on the topic and he doesn't know it's wrong or shitty. or him starting to say something, pausing, then either asking a friend for their take or quickly pivoting so he can google the topic later. like wait this feels biased, i can't trust those guys, what does something other than fox news or tiktok have to say about this.

wanted to compare maverick vs achlys after they've stolen his body. i was gonna say that the biggest visual difference is achlys gives themself heterochromia but really i think it's the fact that mav tends to look like he's bitching about something, because he likely is. both of them have different kinds of cozy in mind for how they dress, mav leans more towards some kind of dark acadamia aesthetic while achlys is... something. idk aesthetic types.

some follow-up doodles to the post where deacon got got by a werewolf! explanations and ramblings under the cut

top left is obvious, deacon healing up after the attack plus bad dog space filler. he bounced back from the whole thing real quick, actually, mostly because. well. he was a werewolf at that point, and accelerated healing comes with the package.

top right, dragging deacon back out of the woods. part of asim's hunter training involved regular exercise and he's always been pretty strong anyway. he didn't always LOOK especially strong, though; a combination of T and healthier eating habits helped him bulk up a bit as he got older. he's not especially short though, he's 5'8", deacon is just real fucking tall. which i don't think translates too much in all of these but that's fine. he's slumped over/sitting in the right two so it's fine.

bottom right, so. the werewolf has been scared away and deacon has been secured. asim then had to avoid freaking out for uh. several reasons. obviously there's the attack, he's used to high-stress situations and people being in danger or even killed by monsters but it's different when it's your best friend. so that was scary. then the dawning horror of realizing his best friend was bitten by a werewolf, his best friend is going to become a werewolf, and like. asim's family's brand of monster hunters is very much the 'all monsters are inherently bad and a threat' kind of hunters, so his training made it clear that deacon was now a threat. idk if there's a cure for lycanthropy in this universe but even if there is one, i can't imagine it's easily accessible, and his family's opinion would be that you can't wait that long to take care of the threat. how many full moons will pass before you get your hands on the cure. how many people could die in that time. so, regardless, asim's training said that his best friend was beyond helping and was best handled by being eliminated. the only other time asim had someone he knew turn out to be a monster/turn into a monster was achlys a couple years before this, and he still had mixed feelings about how that situation was handled. and he'd known deacon for way longer and that's his BEST FRIEND and there were just. clashing ideas warring in his head. so there was THAT crisis.

next crisis was how to get deacon to the hospital. at this point asim didn't know how to drive and didn't have a license also. he could call 911 and drag deacon back to the spot he'd parked his car, but the hunter side of asim's family all utilized police scanners. they'd hear something about an animal attack and be all fucking ears, because yes sometimes it IS an animal attack but sometimes not. one of them might show up at the hospital to get a vibe check on the type of attack. asim knew he couldn't keep this news from his family forever, they'd find out eventually, but he wanted to control the story for as long as he could. especially while deacon was at his most vulnerable and at the easiest point he could be nullified as a potential threat.

so! asim ended up calling his dad to come get them. his dad's not a hunter and hasn't always been super thrilled about the lifestyle, and he's the parent asim has always been closest to anyway. asim knew he could trust him.

after drawing this i realized that deacon would be more likely to refer to asim's dad by name rather than mr. sayed, both because they've known each other for years and because deacon just strikes me as the kind of guy who refers to parents by their first name. like he's a young adult here so that would make sense anyway though i feel like it can vary especially when you were a kid when you met someone. but i'm not changing this because 'hi mr sayed' reads better as a kind of jokey thing than 'hi essam' to me. very polite while he's bleeding out.

and bottom left! on top of trying to figure out how to make the hunter side of his family be cool with deacon being a werewolf, asim also knew like. he kind of fucked up? according to his training, he fucked up. a civilian got bit by a werewolf, which is as good as them getting killed as far as his family cares. and then asim prioritized keeping the newly-infected individual alive rather than killing the active threat. the initial werewolf got away, and then asim saved the soon-to-be werewolf. so like, absolutely abysmal handling of the situation. his family was going to be livid.

so in the pic i'm picturing asim as in the waiting room while deacon is getting treated, anxiously trying to work out how to handle his family and feeling sick about how much trouble he was going to be in. on top of dealing with the emotional effects of the attack in the first place. or, not dealing with them, as the case may be.

really, this whole event is the start of asim half-retiring from being a hunter and generally adjusting his worldview due to eventually stepping back to look at all this and go 'hey that was fucked up actually', and it's also a stepping stone towards his parents' divorce lol. because his dad saw how stressed asim was when he was already worried about his friend, and later saw how asim's mom WAS mad about the situation, and this was also just another close call when every hunt has him terrified that he's going to lose his wife or his son. this one wasn't a hunt, it was a surprise, but like! asim's been taught to actively seek out situations like these! ayda's being trained to seek out situations like these once she reaches an age that's rapidly approaching! this sucks! this sucks!! he just wants his family to be safe!!!!

renamed dreamverse temporarily to somaverse until i come up with something better, but anyway a thought for that storyline because i was reminded of this detail

achlys' redhead host was named maverick, and his brother's name is mortimer. they had an uncle named cash who thought the boys' names were pretentious and stupid so he 100% referred to them by nicknames they hated. i decided that maverick was 'rick' or 'ricky' because he'd hate that the most. i believe it was ez who swooped in with 'mortimer is morty. rick and morty' which caused me psychic damage so of course that's canon now. the brothers always disliked the nicknames but once the show came out and became popular it was Worse.

the thing is, maverick hated it more than mortimer did, and the two didn't get along great, so mortimer absolutely did the occasional sabotage. bringing up the nicknames around maverick's friends so they'd Know. calling maverick rick around people in the morty voice. buying him merch from the show. it was bullying he could get away with because their parents didn't understand it.

side-note: 'mav' was an acceptable nickname, though maverick generally preferred his full name. 'mort' was also acceptable, it's adding the y at the end that ruins it for him.

playing around some more with the idea of achlys having a run-in with someone from his host body's life from before he took over, so here's mortimer, maverick's brother. from his perspective, maverick, known for being a bit selfish and flighty, suddenly dropped everything and skipped town/cut off most contact right when there was kind of a death in the family. mortimer felt like he was left to clean up after him, and wasn't satisfied with the handful of texts he got eventually vaguely explaining away the move and need to get some distance from everyone, so he hunted his brother down to confront him for the catharsis. the reality is that maverick is gone and the thing piloting his body is very much not his brother, but achlys has all of maverick's memories and he's a good actor so he's able to pretend easily enough. it's not the first time achlys has had to pretend to be one of his hosts unexpectedly, but it's never fun or comfortable, and it's made worse this time because asim is around for the encounter and has to play along with the charade when achlys would very much like it if his boyfriend never had to acknowledge the fact that he's dating what is essentially a murderer. the conversations about this the two have after mortimer goes home also aren't fun or comfortable. it's not a great day for anyone.

sometimes brainstorming oc stuff leads you to fun places like "deacon and ayda are both furries. deacon's fursona is some kind of dog and he's aware of the irony considering the werewolf thing. refuses to change his fursona to a wolf, he's had his dog design since high school and he's not giving it up tyvm. ayda has some kind of hybrid dragon thing. her mom disliked her drawing herself as what she perceived to be a monster, her dad put her furry art on the fridge and also asked for a fursona for himself. he's been assigned Frog. asim has been assigned Cat and the running joke is that he's like actual cat sized, very small, because ayda is an inch taller than him and WILL make a big deal of it. when asked, seven immediately requested a possum and that was accepted by deacon and ayda as the furry council of the group. achlys requested some kind of bird since his natural form has feathers, he sat down with the council to describe what he looks like and they came up with a design together that decently mimcs what he actually looks like, just humanoid-shaped and with some artistic liberties. ayda does furry art commissions."
