After a week of working with Lucille Ball on an episode of Here's Lucy, Richard Burton wrote in a diary entry dated Thursday, May 17th, 1970:
“Those who had told us that Lucille Ball was ‘very wearing’ were not exaggerating. She is a monster of staggering charmlessness and monumental lack of humour. She is not ‘wearing’ to us because I suppose we refuse to be worn. I am coldly sarcastic with her to the point of outright contempt but she hears only what she wants to hear… Nineteen solid years of double-takes and pratfalls and desperate up-staging and cutting other people’s laughs if she can, nervously watching ‘the ratings’ as she does so ... I loathed her the first day. I loathed her the second day and the third. I loathe her today but now I also pity her. After tonight I shall make a point of never seeing her again ... this behemoth of selfishness..."

Be honest: does Life with Althaar exist because someone asked the question "What if Babylon 5 were a sitcom?"

How many shows and movies do I have to hate/stop watching in order to get a media diet as diverse as yours? Obviously I’ve already stopped watched every cartoon/TV show released after 2010, as that fact just automatically means they’re inherently terrible now, and cut out any media made by those evil LGBTQ+ people destroying the animation industry with their evil tropes. But I want to do more, and who better to ask than the person who inspired me to restrict what I watch to an extreme degree in order to loop back around to enjoying watching a TON of media. Because I have a complete understanding of why that makes sense obviously.
Oh, and I also cut out watching any indie animation, most Internet horror generally, quite a few sitcoms (But always publicly CLAIMING that I enjoyed watching them, of course), most LGBTQ+ Youtubers other than Lily as well, and just so much more! So, how much MORE media do I have to restrict myself from watching/enjoying even further before I ascend out of this reality, loop back around like you did, and end up being able to enjoy a whole LOT of media again?
Oh how sweet! The Tumblr whore of Babylon sent me two messages in 24 hours as though they haven't been running around town getting their dick wet in every askbox. Are you hoping I'll dispute this nonsense and make you feel at home again, sitcom anon?
You can't recapture the magic between us, you harlot-you've already broken my heart. I thought what we had was special!

I Told Sunset About You Rewatch Ep 3 Stray Thoughts
It's time for the tension episode. This is where things come to a head. Let's just go.
This boy really liked Oh-aew so much that it rewired his sense of smell. It's really incredible how much Billkin was willing to be unattractive in this show. This team understood that to be truly beautiful, there needs to be a little ugly.
I'm really glad they took time for us to see Teh thank Hoon for the plane ticket.
I forgot we started with Oh-aew in the tub. The girlies were not ready.
Of course Teh is up at 4 am for Oh, but he wouldn't get up for Tarn. That poor girl. Look at Tuty in the background watching this gay shit go down.
Teh asking Tarn to go off with his friends while they all watch silently from behind the screen is still one of the best scenes in the e fire show. Will also never get over PP making Billkin cry for accidentally hitting him too hard during the horseplay.
See, even Tarn knows that Teh is making exceptions for Oh he wouldn't make for her.
They just love letting Billkin play Teh being awkward. The cut to Oh falling behind Bas? Incredible. Bas always knew what was going on and was so powerless to do anything about it.
Teh is actively flirting and confusing everyone!
"I'll be with Bas, then," but looks directly at Teh? Both of these boys need to stop using Tarn and Bas as a way to one-up each other.
This going back and forth between them, Oh-aew? Heart wrenching.
Truly, how much money have PP and Billkin made from Lays because of this scene on the deck?
Poor Bas. Puts his heart out there and gets crushed. Oh knew what agreeing to that New Year's date would mean. At least be has enough class to let Bad down.
This couch scene is great because it almost feels like it could be from a multi-cam sitcom.
Hammock scene my beloved. Oh-aew is so brave. He breaks the subtext of all of their interactions and pushes Teh directly. Lets him know as they're literally on top of each other that Teh is the source of his confusion about Bas. He asks Teh the question in a way that doesn't let him deny it. Teh knows it's coming and pretends like he doesn't. "I think you know. You really don't? But I think you do. Or you really don't? But I do think you know?" Teh can't help but ask, "Since when?" And can only answer "I don't know." And admit his desire for closeness when Oh leans forward and pushes.
And now Skyline. It's out in the open now. They may not have moved much, but everything shifted.
Oh, Tarn. I need you and Bas to get a scene like Lennier and Vir in Babylon 5 where they commiserate about Delenn and Londo.
Oh shit Teh is wearing the shirt. It's about to go down.
I get it, Teh. Oh-aew is just so alluring. This man is on the floor inhaling the paper. Mess of his face. He is so gone.
Skyline really is undefeated. The amount of control Oh exerts over Teh with just his presence is just so incredible to watch even still three years later.
"Why do you have to think so hard about it? Forget about it. Do whatever you feel like. There's no need for an answer, if there's no answer." This is what I'm saying!! We get so caught up in the warring over labels. They're just tools to help us think about ourselves. Oh knows intrinsically that these two are drawn to each other and it's stronger than what he's ever felt for Bas. That feeling is what matters. He offers Teh the time and patience of "secret" to let him figure it out. You can see Teh instantly relax at that and try to fall back into the flirtatious studying they've been doing.
Man, what is it about Teh? If Teh tells him he can't quit, Oh always finds a way to dig deeper.
Jesus, Skyline remains undefeated.
"As promised." It gets me every time.
I tell ya. It's always queer boys and their moms.
I don't know what went wrong with the original translation scene or the final scene from this episode when they were in post, but what we got was so good from the reshoots that I legit never want to see the discarded takes.
I still can't believe they filmed this while surrounded by tourists. The translation scene is still my favorite confession in BL. Oh knew what was happening. He knows Teh is flirting through these Chinese lessons. It's absolutely incredible. It's just so much. Teh connected the series that helped him find his purpose to his feelings for Oh. Just omg.
That's right, Tuty! Regulate!! You can smell the sexual energy! Don't let nothing gay happen on your watch!!!
Notice that the leg touching begins as soon as Tuty leaves? She lost focus and now look at us.
Oh is so careful, he mentions being tired from walking before touching Teh's leg. He's giving Teh another way to ease in by framing it as normal help. But the score knows. Oh's hand on the inside of his thigh knows.
Oh's shirt literally says sunset, and Teh is wearing the branded shirt. They wanted us to know how this was really the climactic moment of the show. That's where his head is still at.
JFC Teh pushing Oh's face to say he's not ready for that. Look. I need to pause for this one. So many of my young encounters did not begin with or ever involve kissing. It's just too much. We can rub each other's legs and grope all night, but there's something about kissing when you're in the closet that makes it too much. Oh made it clear it's what he wanted, Teh couldn't give it to him, but they can still touch.
"What if there are two male protagonists?" I was holding my breath at this point in 2020.
It's the way Teh can't stop moving as he pulls Oh onto his chest. He just can't stop touching. The breathing gets heavy. We know where this is going. And then he stops at Oh's chest and the spell is broken.
The hot, bothered, and devastated look on Oh's face is the most impressive single expression I've seen in all of BL.
The silence at the end is deafening, and then we go into PP singing Skyline? I remember this week breaking us.
What an incredible episode. All of the games. All of the rituals. All of the safety valves. All of the blinders. All of it just to have Teh bail in the moment because he faced the physical reality that Oh wasn't a woman. He once again made Oh think he wasn't enough after pouring it on thick all episode. Goddamn.

Some B5 Thoughts
Been watching the entirety of Babylon 5 with my husband, at his request, and I have a few thoughts:
- Sinclair is easily the best character on that show
- You cannot convince me that Delenn, Sheridan, and Lennier aren’t a power throuple
- You also can’t convince me that Vir and Londo aren’t secretly married
- There needed to be a Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead-style ep with Vir and Lennier given that they are Secret Best Friends
- I also would have enjoyed a sitcom episode with Londo and G’Kar a la Perfect Strangers
- Dr. Franklin should have lost his medical license back in season 1
- We were robbed to not have the Talia/Ivanova relationship we deserved
- Ivanova is literally the best female character on that show and I will not be taking any questions at this time

💖 💙 🧡 📺 🎸 🎤 🎧 💡 🍡 ✨ 💫 🦔 👽🧍😘 ☺️🎙️ ✍️ 🤔 😳 🫡
It's a good thing I've already done half of these. XP
💖 Favourite Character?
Tumblr media
Wow, that was eas-*BANG*
Seriously though, I cannot stress enough that the haha funny round moustache get a load of this the more the merrier man is my favourite character of all time. In anything. There are characters I like, there are characters I love, but Eggman will always have a special place in my heart.
I can enjoy different types of villains so long as they're fun or interesting. But we all have our preferences, and Eggman ticks every box on my personal list, and does so with effectiveness, hilarity, deadliness, and memorability. His themes are top class, his aesthetics are grade-A, his genius and creativity is legit, and ahhhhh he's so good. <3
Is it any wonder why I take issue to him being portrayed as a helpless fool? Or a defanged softie? Or a launch pad for other villains to piggyback off of? Or a Bowser-flavored father figure for characters who aren't even interesting on their own?
📺 Favourite TV show?
I assume the OVA doesn't count since it was a "movie", due to being tragically short-lived.
So by process of elimination, I choose AoStH. It's about as much of a non-Sonic cartoon as the rest, but for a Looney Tunes Lite, it is amusing most of the time, and it has Long John Botnik, so I gotta give it a pass. And while AoStH Sonic is… well, very Urkel, he was at least reasonably smart, which is more than can be said for his SatAM counterpart.
AoStH doesn't annoy me nearly as much as SatAM for its overwhelming influence that continues to this day with Archie and IDW, Boom for how everyone at the time overrated what was essentially a standard animated sitcom with Sonic characters shoehorned into the expected templates, and Prime for having an insufferably empty-headed Sonic, and everyone else being either unlikable or bland.
Underground is so forgettable to me that it loops back around to being a positive for it, since that means it doesn't actively piss me off enough like the aforementioned three, lol. As for Sonic X… I'm willing to give the first season a pass despite its heavy quantity of Chris, since I have some nostalgia for it, it has the unironically great and heartwarming Helen episode, and the questionable portrayals of certain characters (Eggman, Amy, Knuckles, arguably Sonic himself to a lesser extent) weren't as bad as they'd later become. Seasons 2 and 3 can fuck off though.
🎸 Favourite Stage Theme?
That's a certified Too Fucking Hard for me in a franchise that's full of bangers, so I'm gonna pick two zones/stages per game to make it only 90% difficult for me to choose instead of 100%.
Sonic 1: Star Light and Scrap Brain
Sonic 2: Hill Top and Wing Fortress
CD JP/EU: Quartz Quadrant Past and Stardust Speedway Past
CD US: Stardust Speedway Good Future and Metallic Madness Present
Sonic 3: Marble Garden and Launch Base
Sonic & Knuckles: Sandopolis and Death Egg
Fighters: Black Bed (Aurora Icefield) and Fire Stone (Giant Wing)
3D Blast Genesis: Rusty Ruin and Volcano Valley
3D Blast Saturn: Rusty Ruin and... the Special Stage
Sonic R: Can You Feel The Sunshine and Living In The City
SA1: Windy Hill and Tricky Maze (THIS ONE WAS EXTREMELY HARD TO NARROW DOWN TO JUST TWO)
SA2: Deeper (Death Chamber) and Space Trip Steps (Meteor Herd)
Advance 1: Ice Mountain and Egg Rocket
Advance 2: Music Plant and Techno Base
Heroes: Ocean Palace and Final Fortress
Battle: Holy Summit (arena) and Death Egg (arena)
Advance 3: Cyber Track and Chaos Angel
ShtH: Circus Park and Final Haunt
Rush: Ethno Circus (Mirage Road) and What U Need (Dead Line)
Riders: Metal City and Digital Dimension
'06: Aquatic Base and End of the World
Secret Rings: Let the Speed Mend It (Sand Oasis) and High and Broken (Levitated Ruin)
Rush Adventure: Haunted Ship and Sky Babylon
Zero Gravity: Aquatic Capital and Gigan Rocks
Unleashed: Rooftop Run Night and Skyscraper Scamper Day
Black Knight: Deep Woods and... actually, that's the only level theme I really like in this game, the rest are pretty forgettable
Colours: Planet Wisp and Aquarium Park
Generations: Speed Highway and Crisis City
Lost World: Sea Bottom Segue and Hidden World
Mania: Press Garden and Titanic Monarch (THIS ONE WAS ALSO HARD)
Forces: Moonlight Battlefield and Mortar Canyon
TSR: Roulette Road and Sand Road
🎤 Favourite Vocal Track?
I'll be unconventional and go with Live Life. Ironically, I don't care for the other vocal tracks in Black Knight, as I find them generic and unmemorable, but Live Life is a really uplifting one that I think deserves more appreciation.
I've always had a particular fondness for What I'm Made Of as well. And despite preferring the JP soundtrack for CD on the whole, Sonic Boom is still really catchy and infectious.
🎧 Favourite overall soundtrack?
How am I meant to narrow it down to one?
The answer: I can't, so instead I'll just list the ones I consider to be S-tier. Note that I am indeed taking the question to heart and judging them by how strong I consider them overall, rather than singling out one or a couple of tracks specifically. Otherwise I'd be listing the entire non-Chronicles catalogue. (The Last Scene in SA2, Aquarium Park in Colours, some tracks in ShtH…)
Sonic CD (JP/EU)
Sonic 3 & Knuckles
Sonic 3D Blast (Genesis)
Sonic Adventure 1
The Advance trilogy
Sonic Mega Collection (yes, I'm serious)
Sonic Heroes
Sonic '06
Sonic Rush Adventure
Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity
Sonic Unleashed
Sonic Mania
Team Sonic Racing
💡 Spinoff you’d like to see?
Dr. Crusher's Negating Mandating Machine™.
Serious answer, I'd like another Tails game of some sort, in the hopes that it would let the fox regain some of his fandom respect in a legitimate, non-Wildly Inconsistent-speech way.
I'd also be open to a Blaze spinoff, since there's a lot you could do with her world, and maybe it'd allow us to finally see Marine again under a pen that's hopefully not Flynn's. And since Blaze herself is still one of the most popular and less controversial Modern characters, I can't see a lack of audience being an issue.
🍡 Classic, Adventure, or Boost Gameplay?
Classic overall, but a little of Adventure as well in the form of SA1 and the Advance trilogy (even if the latter is semi-Boost if anything).
✨ Dream Sonic Game?
I've always preferred the S3&K/Mania/Advance approach to alternate characters, because I feel they strike the delicate balance of being different enough to offer something unique for each character, but still consistent enough to not detract from the overall style of gameplay. They also handle the matter of story completion the best IMO: if you want to stick with one character for the adventure, you can actually do so, rather than be forced to juggle different styles in one story (SA2), or for the game to suddenly hand over the controls to someone else halfway through the stage ('06).
That's honestly about it, aside from the obvious stuff (good soundtrack, pleasing aesthetics, etc). I don't think I'm impossible to please in that regard. The only other bullet point I can think of is that I'm not inherently opposed to different goals for different characters, but it's important that they don't come at the expense of the core gameplay. For example, I'm alright with Knuckles' treasure hunting conceptually, since you're still platforming and going fast like you would in any other installment. It's when you throw in the dipshit SA2 radar that it becomes a problem.
🦔 Favourite version of Sonic? (the character)
Game Sonic. The original, and the best.
I still have issues with him, but after seeing writers miss the point with him again and again in adaptations, with his portrayal ending up being obnoxious for one reason or another in the process, it's made me grow to appreciate the good qualities and low-key nuance of the original template.
🫡 Coldest Sonic Take?
My opinions seem to always be in opposition to that of the overall fandom's, so to think of one that's actually popular… hmm.
S3&K is still liked, right?

Happy STS!
How much did you notice your style evolving since you've started writing? Is it what you want it to be or are there aspects of it you'd like to change?
Happy STS @sam-glade
Phew...
I started writing when I was..... 11 or 12. Something around that age. I am turning 41 soon. So this means somewhat of 30 years of writing more or less, if we ignore the breaks.
My style changed big time.
Of course, as teenager I imitated the authors I read. I imitated what I saw story telling wise in tv shows which means a lot of it had the evil 90's sitcome vibes underlaying of it what didn't really mix well with fantasy. I grew up on Hercules, Xena, Buffy, Charmed, but also Babylon 5, Star Trek, Star Wars, Farscape but also Friends, Dharma and Greg, Will and Grace, Roseanne, Golden Girls. It's an evil mix if you throw everything together.
I clearly learned to analyze media and how to use what I like and how to use it for my writing in a way it is my story and makes sense. To answer you question: Yes, I like where I am with my style and it is where I want to be. Do I like to change some aspects? Sometimes. I am still not the best at writing funny things. I write tragedies not comedies, if you want to put it that way. There are times, I wish my style would come with the ability to write more uplifting stories and less downers.
