This year is a pretty special one in the Imperial Radch/Leckieverses fandom! This October will mark the 10th anniversary of Ancillary Justice's publishing date, and this June we're getting a new Radch universe book, Translation State! So it feels important to run this exchange once again. I'm excited to get hype.

(The Republic of Two Systems Independence Day is a holiday mentioned in the Preface to the Traveler's Guide to the Two Systems. Ms. Leckie has told us it can probably be celebrated the Monday after Easter Sunday, when Peeps are cheapest. This year, that's April 10.)

There are three fandoms for this exchange: Imperial Radch, The Raven Tower, and Crossover. Characters/ships from Provenance, Night's Slow Poison, and She Commands me and I Obey go in the Imperial Radch fandom. Characters from the godsverse short stories go in the Raven Tower fandom. For Crossover, you can nominate crossover relationships between Radchverse and godsverse characters, relationships between Leckie and non-Leckie characters, or solo non-Leckie characters you want to see in a Leckie universe. Please put the second fandom in parenthesis after the character. For example: “Breq & Murderbot (Murderbot Diaries)”.

For easy matching, all nominations will be Relationships. To nominate a solo character, write "Solo: (Character)". For example, "Solo: Medic". Relationships can be romantic, indicated by a “/”, or platonic, indicated by an “&”. For example, “Breq/Murderbot” would indicate a romantic or sexual relationship, while “Breq & Murderbot” would be platonic.

I've added general Worldbuilding tags for Radch and Raven Tower, but feel free to nominate more specific ones, like "Worldbuilding: genitalia festival".

We are a small and crazy fandom. There may be some injokes and OCs in the tagset. If you want to nominate something weird & obscure, go for it.

If you miss the nomination deadline by a couple hours, just message me and I’ll reopen the tagset for you.

SIGNUPS:

You will need to make at least 3 requests, and 4 offers. For each request or offer, pick at least 1 fandom, 1 relationship tag, and one medium from the dropdown tagset. You can group your requests however you like; you could make 3 individual requests, each with one character, or three requests each with 20 characters- up to you.

If you only want to receive or create works based around worldbuilding, rather than characters, request/offer the “Worldbuilding” tag.

The way the matching works, you will be matched with someone who used at least 1 of the Fandom tags, 1 of the same Relationship tags, and 1 of the Medium tags as you. The work you create only has to use one of the requested relationship tags.

You can pick “Any” for both offers and requests! Just remember that really does mean “Any”, and be prepared.

If you’re fine with both Art and Fic, you can check off both boxes, or just pick “Any” for that section.

If there are things you very much Do Not Want in your gift, please list these in the Optional Details box for each of your prompts. For example: “DNW any appearances by spider mechs.” You are required to make a good faith effort to not include DNWs in your recipient’s gift.

You’re encouraged to give your gifter some prompts! You can put these in the Optional Details box, or paste a link to a letter into the URL box. Optional Details are Optional, and your creator isn’t bound to follow them, outside of the DNWs. Only DNWs in your signup are enforceable, so put them there, not just in a linked letter.

You are allowed to mention characters and ships that weren’t nominated in your optional details, but remember, your creator matched on the tags you chose and isn’t obligated to include anything else.

If you are 18+, you can ask for or create NSFW, but your creator isn’t required to give it to you, so it would be polite to provide some SFW prompts as well. Only give someone NSFW if they ask for it in their prompts.

ASSIGNMENTS: everyone will get an email through their AO3 account once I’ve run matching. The email will have your assignment in it.

It’s possible there will be some people who won’t have anyone they could create for. I’ll email them through their AO3 email asking them to add more offers, and if they don’t respond in 24 hours, their signups will be deleted. If this happens to you and you don’t see my email in time, don’t panic! Just contact me and we’ll work something out.

Please don’t tell your giftee who you are. If you have a question, let me know and I’ll convey it to them.

When you are creating your work, make sure you include at least one tag from at least one of your giftee’s requests, and don’t include DNWs. You only need to create one work, and it only needs to include one of the tags in your giftee’s signup.

DEFAULTING:

If you can’t finish your gift, no worries. Just click the “default” button on your assignment page. If the person assigned to you also defaults, you may not get a gift.

If you need an extension, just message me and let me know! If the posting deadline passes and you haven’t posted anything or contacted me, I’ll assume you’re defaulting.

If you’ve posted your gift, and your creator defaults their assignment, a pinch-hitter will create a gift for you. Everyone who posts a gift will get a gift.

Galo had signed up for a noisy atmosphere — in fact, he loved it! The blare of sirens coupled with his shouts of instruction or declaring a yet-won victory always got his blood pumping and his feet moving. Throughout the remainder of his busy workday, the clank of machinery and whirr of Lucia’s array of tried-and-true devices made up his long (exhausting, but in the best way possible) afternoon. With the two eggs he had retrieved cozily residing within the pockets slung along his belt, Galo’s moves were more thought-through; would a sharp movement encourage a crack to sear across the egg’s surface, potentially putting the baby chicken in danger? What if he landed wrongly and boom, the worst would happen?

While Galo brought the same zest he did to every mission, he was quick on his toes, often darting into danger rather than away from it just to guarantee a better landing for the eggs he had on board. Sure, he might have emerged with a bruise or two, but that was just a part of being a firefighter!

Returning to the station, muscles pleasantly sore and ash smattered across his cheeks, Galo slung his helmet off, shook his head to free any debris caught in his hair, and chucked his gloves into his ajar locker, plucking a freshly washed pair of sweats in the same motion (thanks, Lio) before he came to an abrupt pause. The weird rumble around his torso was believed to be the cause of a not so fulfilling lunch, and discarded upon arriving to that conclusion. So, grabbing an unopened box of soap, pants laid out to the side, towel hooked over the bench, Galo nearly made his way to the showers whenever he heard a chirp.

Blinking, he snagged his phone, quickly reading through his notifications — coupon, coupon, confirmation of signup (did he sign up to that site?), notice about his gym membership, news about an upcoming mobile game he had been looking forward to, a coupon for free pizza hell yeah, but none of them recent. Shrugging off the sound as a result of ringing ears, Galo again crossed the barrier into the adjoining shower area, whenever...

Chirp, chirp, chirp.

“Oooookay, who’s doin’ that?” poking his head out, Galo glanced down the hall, spotting none of his coworkers in the process. “Seriously! C’mon guys, you can’t fool me aga—”

With the next chirp, Galo’s eyes darted toward his work pants. With curiosity guiding his movements, he poked, what he assumed, to be the source. Nope, his walkie wasn’t there (that’s probably a problem, he should find it later), but there was something... kind of soft. Recalling what exactly had been pocketed there hours prior, horror flashed across his features, and Galo swiftly went about assuring the safety of his on-board companion! The first glimpse was of a shell, cracked, bits and pieces littered throughout the pouch... the second, a tiny little head with tiny eyes, and whenever those tiny eyes locked with his own, Galo knew what the source of the chirping had been.

“Oh, hey there, little buddy!” crouching beside the bench, he beckoned the bird outside of its all too snug confines, “I didn’t know it was you! Aw, you’re so cute!! And so small! You’re seriously so small! I didn’t know anything could be that tiny!” with a sound Galo could only perceive as happy, the little creature tiptoed into his open palm... then, another joined it. “You hatched too?? Wow, you guys must be really close! Well duh, you’ve been on my belt for like a whole day now, you’ve gotta be at least a little close.”

Needless to say, he was very glad they wound up not being hardboiled eggs saved for somebody’s lunch.

Teen Program Plan

Program Description, Audience, and Justification

The library closes at 5pm on Fridays, so the librarians will set up the clues between 5 and 6pm. The program will begin at 6pm with dinner from Rosati's pizza from 6-6:30pm. The scavenger hunt itself will consist of 30 clues hidden around the library, and the teens will be split into teams of four. The teens can sign up in groups or they can sign up as individuals and be grouped together at the program. The scavenger hunt will last about an hour to an hour and a half depending on how fast the teens are, but we will probably have librarians not involved with the program test the clues beforehand to see how long it takes them. There will be two librarians stationed at different "lookout" points at the library to watch for cheaters and offer hints if need be.

This program is relevant to the teens in my area because there aren't many (if any) places in Lemont for teens to hang out and be loud. Last year, the local Starbucks completely renovated its interior to discourage teens from hanging out there, so the only place left is really McDonalds (which is down the street from the library). I want to give the teens an organized activity during the summer where they can be rowdy (to an extent).

Budget and Additional Resources

This, if all goes according to plan, would cost approximately less than $100. All of the clues will be printed out on colored paper (a different color for each team), and the library is always well-stocked with colored paper for various things. For something like a later program, we usually have the librarian running start later in the day so that they still work their regular 8 hour shift. Hypothetically, this ends at most at 8pm, so the librarian would start at noon the day of the program. For dinner, the Lemont Library gets Rosati's pizza at a discounted rate since we have a partnership with them, so 4 large pizzas would cost us around $50 (and that's if we have all 24 slots fill up). Finally, the prize is a $10 gift card to a local business of the teen's choice, so four gift cards would equal $40.

Timeline

The summer newsletter goes out in May, so I would begin promoting this program around that time to try to ensure its success. I would for sure advertise it to the families of teens that come to the Summer Reading Kickoff Party (which happens the first Saturday in June ever year). I would write the clues a few weeks in advance, and then do a test run or two with a couple librarians on a Sunday when it's not as busy. The timeline for the event itself is above in Program Description.

Other Considerations

I have also considered getting ice cream from The Creamery, another local business, who gives out free ice cream at the Summer Reading Kickoff and Wrap-Up parties, as well as free ice cream coupons as Summer Reading prizes. This ice cream would be free as long as we promote that it's from them in the program description (pizza from Rosati's would also be in the program description).

Assessment/Evaluation Technique

To evaluate the success of the program, of course I will look at both the number of signups and the number of teens that actually show up. I think the volume and speed of the teens will be a good indicator of the success of the program, because if they're getting excited and running around, they are, in theory, having fun.

Supplemental Materials

The first supplemental material I have is a mockup Instagram post.

The caption would be something like "Teens! Sign up for our after-hours scavenger hunt on July 12! Solve all the clues first and win a $10 gift card to a local business of your choice!"

My second supplemental material is an example of what some of the clues will be.
